Hello, here I am with a new story about the unforgettable Mondler, for it I will be inspired by the movi Sleepless in Seattle, (a beautiful film with another beautiful couple) if you saw the movie you will see its plot base in the story but the situations will be somewhat different. I hope you enjoy reading it, I think that continuing to write stories about Mondler serves to make us feel, in some way, that Matty is still with us.
I hope you catches them, and that ypu tell me his opinions, through them I know if I'm on the right path.
Remember English is not my native language, I hope the translation is correct, check it, but sometimes I miss some incorrect personal pronouns for the phrase, sorry.
I reiterate, I do not own the characters of Friends and in this case neither the plot of the movie Sleepless in Seattle, or its characters, I only rely on them for the pure pleasure of writing stories without any economic interest, and Monica and Chandler they inspire
CHAPTER 1:
This Thursday Chandler arrived a little later, there was a lot of work at the agency, he was tired, but he gladly prepared dinner for him and Alek, his 7-year-old son.
Remember English is not my native language, I hope the translation is correct, check it, but sometimes I miss some incorrect personal pronouns for the phrase, sorry.
Alek helped Chandler clear the table and dry the dishes while they continued talking about his day.
When they finished, Chandler accompanied Alek while he watched the cartoons, but when it was 8:30 he told Alek that it was time to go to bed. Alek slapped his father's hand and went up to his room.
Chandler took the book he had been reading and sat in the easy chair, he always needed to read a little before going to sleep, this relaxed him and allowed him to fall asleep better.
Chandler had fallen asleep in the easy chair, hugging his book, when he heard Alek shouting for him.
Chandler climbed the two-and-two stairs and entered Alek's room, who was sitting on the bed crying. He ran to his side, "son, what's wrong?", and hugged him tightly.
Alek, sobbing, told him that he couldn't find it anywhere, that he was looking for him, and couldn't find it.
"Son, here I am, don't cry, it was just an ugly nightmare, don't be afraid, I'm here, I'll always be here…" Chandler brought him a glass of water, and Alek calmed down.
"Why don't you try to sleep again?"
"I'm afraid of the nightmare, can you stay here with me," Alek asked.
"Of course, I'll stay here with you. I kissed him on the forehead and lay down next to him on the bed."
They both fell asleep...
Ten years ago, in college, Chandler had met Ellie, it had been love at first sight, they were both freshmen, and although he did not believe in love and commitment, due to his complicated childhood, with Ellie it was different, he felt safe by her side, she was the opposite of his mother, and he was the opposite of his father, nothing could go wrong.
When he was in his third year at university he got an internship at an Advertising Agency, since he was studying Marketing and also literature. -
Because Chandler excelled in the internship, they offered him a permanent position. The salary wasn't much, but it was a pretty good start to a career in a field he liked.
They had barely both graduated when Ellie discovered that she was pregnant. The news scared them a little at first, but then they felt happy. They married.
Since Ellie was also working, she in a real estate investment company, they decided to rent an apartment in Brooklyn.
Ellie decorated the nursery with love and dedication, five months into her pregnancy they discovered that the baby was a boy, so they painted the room a soft blue, and Chandler wanted to name him Alek as his great grandfather.
The baby was born without problems, he was a beautiful baby, and the parents were proud and enthralled with the child.
Chandler had two great friends that he had met at High School:
Joey, who had decided to be an actor and since then was looking for his big opportunity, although he was currently working quite successfully on an afternoon soap opera.
And Phoebe, she was a couple of years older than Chandler, but due to family problems, her mother had committed suicide when she was only 14 years old, she had missed a couple of years of high school so when she returned to school she shared the same course as Chandler and Joey and they became inseparable.
Phoebe did not want to continue studying, she wanted to work to be independent, she took a masseuse course and worked in a Spa, there she met Mike, and a couple of years later they got married, Chandler and Joey were her godfathers. Phoebe had gotten pregnant just a few months before Ellie, so Sophie came into the world 6 months before Alek, therefore, the topics of conversation always revolved around the progress in the children's growth.
They all formed a group of best friends, always together, they were happy, until the terrible tragedy occurred, at that time Alek was exactly 1 year and three months old.
Chandler was at work when he received a call, on the other end of the line someone asked "Are you Mr. Chandler Bing?"
"Yes, it is me who speaks"
"Mr. Bing, this is Lieutenant Morgan, I'm calling you to let you know that your wife, Elizabeth, had an accident, and she was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital."
"What is you talking about? … my wife? …. An accident? …. What happened? … how are she doing? …. "For God's sake, tell me she's alive."
"Mr. Bing, apparently a car lost control, went up the sidewalk and hit her, … when the ambulance arrived the lady was alive, although unconscious, I don't know anything else, … I'm sorry"
Chandler was paralyzed, his legs couldn't support him and he clung to the desk, he couldn't be, he was surely asleep and it was a nightmare... When he came out of the first shock he took his phone and his jacket, vaguely told his assistant that Ellie had had an accident and was going to the hospital, he only managed to hear Susan say…. "I'm sure it's nothing…"
When he got into the taxi, his hands were shaking and cold sweat was running down his back. He didn't have a good feeling. He picked up the phone and called Phoebe... immediately she said, "I'm going there."
Upon arriving at the Hospital, they made him go to an office, a doctor entered the room with a very serious face, which was a bad omen, "Mr. Bing, I'm Dr. Grand, his wife is now in intensive care, she received severe injuries, all of them very serious, we have done everything in our power in the condition she is in."
"What does that mean…what kind of wounds…. Did they operate on her? …. they will operate? …. Will it have consequences? …. How long will it take for her to recover? …."
"Mr. Bing, no operation, or rather operations, could repair what was damaged, her situation is irreversible, we administered medication to reduce the pain, and we supplied her with oxygen to help her breathe until you arrived…"
"You is telling me that she is going to die???"
"I'm sorry, we don't think she'll make it through tonight…"
"It can't be, this is a nightmare, a bad dream, tell me, will I wake up?" …. God we have a one-yearold baby…. He can't lose his mom... I can't lose the woman I love... I don't think you can't do anything... I want to talk to another doctor…" Chandler said loudly and crying…. He lowered his head holding it in his hands.
"Mr. Bing. You don't know how sorry I am, we don't usually give up, it is against our nature and our position in the face of the disease, to fight until the end, but the problem is that here we are facing the end, … nothing can be done anymore…"
"Mr. Bing, your wife is conscious at times, it would be good for you to be with her in case at some point she wakes up, it will be good for both of you if you can say that you love each other…"
Chandler raised his head, his face soaked with tears, "Of course I want to be with her."
When they left the office Phoebe was outside, when she saw Chandler she immediately realized the seriousness of the situation. Chandler went to her side. "Phoebe, she's dying, there's nothing they can do," he said between sobs. Phoebe hugged him and they cried together.
Dr. Grand approached them "Mr. Bing, you better come, there isn't much time…"
Phoebe let him go between sobs, she couldn't believe what was happening.
Dr. Grand quietly addressed Phoebe, "please wait here, he's going to need it…"
"Yes, of course I'll stay…"
As Chandler walked away to enter a room, Phoebe quickly called Mike and Joey, both of whom said they would come right away.
Chandler entered the room, she was in a dim light, there were devices that sounded disturbingly, she was lying down, she seemed asleep, but the oxygen mask, the injuries on her face and the bandage on her head said so all.
He pulled out a chair and sat next to her, holding her hand tightly.
"Love, do you hear me? …."
But there was no response.
Chandler stood still, watching her, lifting her fragile hand from hers and kissing it, hoping she felt his presence.
A few minutes later he saw her eyes open, looked at him and gave him a small smile.
"Hi love …. you woke up."
Ellie motioned for him to take off her mask.
Chandler told her "love, I don't know if that's appropriate."
She insisted with the gesture and Chandler took it out.
With a voice that was almost a whisper Ellie said "I need you to promise me something…. please…"
"Of course whatever you want…"
"make Alek a happy boy…. a happy man... Just because I'm not with him doesn't have to stop him from being happy..."
"Ellie, please, you're going to be okay, you're going to see…"
"No Chandler, you know I don't, that's why I need you to promise…" and tears filled her eyes.
"It's okay I promise…"
Ellie took a deep breath to gain strength "And I also want you to promise me that you are going to be a happy man…. "I love you too much and I don't want to think that you are a lonely, bitter man, I want you to be happy, to find a good woman, to fall in love again, to give Alek a mother."
"Ellie, please, I can never love another woman…"
"Yeah …. You will do it…" and she squeezed his hand tightly "you have to promise me right now, I don't want to leave without hearing you say that you promise me, that you are going to be happy, that you are going to love again… promise it with those exact words and never forget this promise…. Let's say it…"
"……. It's okay, I promise you that I'm going to be happy, that I'm going to love a woman again, that I'm going to give Alek a mother..."
Ellie gently wrapped her pinky around Chandler's pinky…. "From now on it is one of those promises that are never broken, every time you think of me you should think about the promise and about looking for love…"
Chandler thought, it's an impossible promise to keep, how to do it... Impossible …"
Ellie closed her eyes, almost without strength, she asked him, "give me the mask, now I'm calm, I can go calmly, don't forget the promise."
Chandler stayed next to her, squeezing her hand, more than an hour had passed when the devices started beeping like crazy...
Phoebe who was with Mike and Joey outside the room saw a nurse and a doctor running in and heard Chandler's heartbreaking scream "NOOOOOO"
The following days Phoebe took Alek to her house, but this separation was worse for Chandler, he loved his son and being totally alone was maddening, so Phoebe took Alek back to his dad.
Chandler took care of him all the time and while he went to work he hired a babysitter.
The months passed and his life was in slow motion, he was numb. Every time he came home he couldn't help but smell her in every corner, there were times when he was about to call her because he needed something for Alek.
That apartment was torture.
Phoebe one day proposed to him, "Chandler, why don't you move close to home, rent something nearby, we can send Alek and Sophie to the same daycare, I can take them both back and forth, and we can hire a babysitter for both of them, so step I can keep an eye on how they are. You really can't stay here, you're far from us, please."
Chandler thought about it, Phoebe was right, he would look for something on the Upper West Side near Phoebe's house. -
But when he started searching with his friends, everything was very expensive, more than he, now with only a secure income, could afford.
It was then that Joey told him "brother, why don't you ask your mom for help, she loves you, when she came to the funeral she told you that she wanted to help you, with anything you needed."
"Joey, you know…"
"Yes, I know that for years she didn't take much care of you, but don't I know? I saw her so distressed for you, for Alek, she was sincere in offering you help. Maybe the past cannot be repaired, but you are both in time to improve the future, now you have a son, you have to take care of him, and she has to take care of her grandson, and from the way she talks to you I think she is more than eager to do it."
"Let me think about it…"
A few days later Chandler called his mother, he began to tell her that he wanted to move to Manhattan, near Phoebe and Mike, since they could help him with Alek, but that he couldn't pay the rents that the Upper West Side is asking for and….
Nora immediately interrupted him. "Chandler, now I'm in London, tomorrow I have a presentation that just I can't cancel, but then I cancel everything next and the day after tomorrow I'm there."
"Thanks Mom" ….
"Son, don't worry, this will be fixed perfectly."
When Nora arrived she spoke calmly but seriously with Chandler.
"Son, it is clear that you have to move and the best option is to be close to your friends, Alek is tow years old and still needs attention, love, and a nanny, no matter how good she is, cannot give him all the love he needs"
"At the same time the rents on the Upper West Side are very high, although you prospered in your job at the agency, and you have begun to have some extra income from the publication of your books, it is still not enough to cover all your expenses needs and those of Alek"
"That's why we're going to look for a house in the area where Phoebe lives and we're going to buy it."
"But Mom, that's crazy, the houses there are very expensive, I know this because Mike was able to buy it because his parents helped him…" Chandler said
"Precisely, Mike's parents helped him, because they could and wanted to, and you know well that I can and I also deeply love you, it is absurd that my fortune is spent paying for my divorces or the whims of my lovers, I'm tired of that, I guess that I grew up, now I want my money to be used to give you and Alek a better life, I know that what I owe you, the attention that I did not give you as a child cannot be paid with money, but at least let me calm my conscience by doing may your life and Alek's be better."
Nora was a determined woman with character, so the next day she dragged Chandler to a real estate agency specializing in properties in the chosen area. -
They looked at several houses, but almost like a miracle they found out that there was a house for sale on the same street where Phoebe and Mike lived, just two doors apart.
The property had the living room, kitchen, a desk and a patio on the first floor, and on the second floor three bedrooms, one of them in suite.
"Mom, doesn't it seem too big to us? Why do I want three bedrooms…?
"Because I plan to come visit you often and I need a guest room…" Nora answered with a big smile.
The inspection ruled that it was in good condition, since it had only been completely renovated three years ago, only requiring painting in some of the rooms.
Everyone liked it, especially the location, so the decision was made.
A month later Chandler and Alek moved into the house. From that moment on, Phoebe took great care of Alek, and the boy and Sophie grew up as inseparable siblings, who got up to all kinds of pranks together.
The next few years passed quickly, Nora came to Manhattan more frequently and stayed in the guest room of Chandler's house, and although she tried to get her son to seriously try to meet a woman, she was unable to do so.
When almost two years had passed since Ellie's death, Chandler allowed himself to start going out, having dates, but none of them lasted long, he found some problem in all of them that made them inappropriate.
Now he was dating Janice, he had met her the year before at an agency meeting, they had only dated for a month, he didn't really like her pushy way of being, now it had been a couple of months since they had gotten back together find and they were dating again.
On Friday she would come over for dinner, he invited her to the house since Phoebe, Mike and Sophie had to attend Mike's father's birthday and couldn't take care of Alek.
Alek really hated Janice, she had an ugly voice, she spoke loudly, she laughed horribly, but the worst thing was, every time she saw him she would pinch his cheek hard while moving his face saying "what a cute boy" …
Alek didn't understand how his father could date such a horrible woman.
On Friday night Janice arrived, as she always did, greeted Alek with her pinch on the cheek.
They had dinner, and as soon as they finished, Alek, as he couldn't stand her anymore, said that he was tired and asked to get up. Chandler told him that it was fine, but that he shouldn't stay watching television for too long, at 9 pm he had to be sleeping.
Alek went to his room, put on his pajamas and went to the hallway and went down some steps, just enough to hear what his father was talking to Janice without being seen. -
That's when he heard Janice invite Chandler to spend the next weekend together, just before the Christmas season, they could go to a cabin that a friend was lending her, which was in Vermont, she said that Alek could stay with Phoebe for a couple of days, and that the date would be very romantic, just the two of them.
Chandler was silent for a moment and then told her that its was fine, that they would go, but first she had to ask Phoebe if she could take care of Alek.
The boy's stomach turned, this was getting ugly, he would have to do something, he would talk to Sophie, ...
