A/N: Sorry for the late upload, the past two weeks have been extremely busy along with I really didn't know how to do this chapter. I honestly could have taken it several different ways and just couldn't for the life of me figure it out.

Chapter 5: So, we're doing this?

October 12th 2073

"Sasuke?" Rita whispered, gently nudging the Uchiha's shoulder.

She had awakened only minutes earlier, still elated from the night she had spent with the man who now laid in her bed. However, her joy quickly dissipated when she turned to face him. She had anticipated seeing Sasuke peacefully asleep, perhaps even with a contented smile gracing his lips. Instead, she was met with a sight that troubled her deeply: Sasuke, his brow furrowed, panting heavily with sweat beading on his forehead.

"No..." Sasuke's voice trembled softly, his body convulsing as though struggling against invisible restraints.

"Sasuke!" Rita exclaimed once more, her voice laced with panic as she observed his distress. In that moment, he jolted awake, his body propelled upright, breaths ragged and labored. Rita couldn't shake the sight: his eyes seemed to flicker, briefly glowing with shades of red and purple before returning to their usual near-obsidian hue.

Seconds stretched into an eternity as Sasuke's breathing gradually steadied, and he let out a deep, weary sigh. It was another night plagued by nightmares, a recurring torment that had haunted him since his arrival in Night City. When he first slept in Night City, he had braced himself for the usual torment.

The same dream, where he found himself navigating the familiar but haunting terrain of his clan compound: streets strewn with the lifeless bodies of women and children, his only purpose to locate his family. Yet, every time, the scene twisted into a nightmare within a nightmare: his parents' lifeless forms, blood staining their clothes, while his brother loomed over them, a specter of betrayal and anguish.

But that wasn't the nightmare's culmination. What he witnessed was himself suspended in mid-air, paralyzed and mute, compelled to gaze downward at Madara looming before him. An evil smirk twisted Madara's features as he wrested the sword from Sasuke's grip, methodically plunging it into his heart while taunting him with scornful words, each thrust a mockery of Sasuke's futile resistance.

"I'm fine…" Sasuke breathed out, grounding himself back to reality.

"Does this happen a lot?" Rita inquired, though she already suspected the answer.

"It's nothing, just some bad dreams," Sasuke responded, his voice carrying a sense of resignation. That was all in the past now; he was alive, Madara was dead. He had forged a new life, and he refused to let his past haunt his present.

Rita wanted to offer words of comfort, yet she found herself at a loss for how to proceed. Instead, she simply leaned into Sasuke, her head finding solace on his shoulder while her fingers delicately traced the scars on his bare chest, their gentle dance a silent reassurance of her presence.

Sasuke shivered at the unfamiliar sensation, finding an unexpected comfort in Rita's touch. Yielding to the tranquility of the moment, he reclined while Rita nestled her head on his chest, her fingers continuing their gentle exploration of his scars. In response, Sasuke placed a hand on her back, mirroring her gesture as he traced the soft contours of her skin.

Minutes slipped by in comfortable silence, the two finding solace in each other's presence until Rita broke the quietude with a playful inquiry.

"So… how was your first time?" she teased, a small laugh escaping her lips as she felt Sasuke tense beneath her touch.

Turning her head to peer at Sasuke, who now averted his gaze with a faint blush coloring his cheeks, she couldn't resist needling him further. "Don't pretend to be some ladies' man, Sasuke. If it weren't for me dropping hints, I doubt you would have found the—"

"Okay, fine, it was my first time," Sasuke interjected hastily, cutting Rita off before she could finish the embarrassing remark, his cheeks still flushed with embarrassment.

Yes, it was indeed Sasuke's first time, and yes, he required some subtle guidance. He had never regarded the opposite sex as anything more than potential enemies. It wasn't that he was entirely clueless, but rather, he simply hadn't deemed them worthy of his attention. Even when Karin had made numerous advances towards him, he had dismissed them, prioritizing his training and the pursuit of power.

Observing the embarrassment coloring Sasuke's cheeks, Rita couldn't help but stifle a small laugh. As she noticed his embarrassment deepening, she swiftly decided to ease the tension. With a deft movement, she shifted position, throwing her leg over him and straddling him, bringing them face to face in an instant.

"Let's see if you still need my help," Rita teased, a mischievous grin playing on her lips as she leaned in to kiss him.

Sasuke tensed momentarily at the unexpected gesture, despite having shared several kisses with Rita the night before. The intimacy was still unfamiliar to him, but he quickly regained his composure and reciprocated the kiss, his hands gently caressing her hips in a tender response.

~~~SCENE~~~
Naruto reluctantly opened his eyes, emitting a pitiful groan as he tried to make sense of his throbbing head and liquid-like eyes. Gently rubbing his temples, he winced as he became aware of the dull ache in his back, realizing he had spent the night on the hard floor, with nothing but a thin rug beneath him.
"What happened last night…" Naruto muttered, attempting to piece together the events of the previous evening.
As his memory slowly returned, Naruto surveyed his surroundings, taking in the cluttered yet surprisingly tidy room by Night City standards. Lockers lined one side of the room adjacent to the lone door, while a desk and terminal occupied the corner to his right. It was then that he noticed the rhythmic sound of snoring to his left, prompting him to look up and discover the larger man he had saved earlier slouched on a nearby couch. The flood of memories washed over him, prompting another groan from the weary Uzumaki.
Naruto and Jackie stepped through the front doors of the Mexican bar, and it felt as though the entire world had paused, all eyes fixated on them. The blonde instinctively looked to Jackie for guidance, but before he could react, an older woman emerged from behind a set of doors, her expression a mix of worry and exasperation.
[Oh my god, you stupid boy, what the hell happened to you?] she exclaimed in Spanish, her voice laden with concern, causing Jackie to gently push Naruto aside and stand up straight.
"Mama, it's fine…" Jackie reassured her in English, his hands finding their place on his mother's shoulders, a gesture of comfort amidst the chaos.
"Fine? You are not fine. You look like you're about to die!" Jackie's mother argued back to her son, her worry evident in her tone.
"No, no, no, my friend Naruto here made sure I wouldn't," Jackie countered with a grin, stepping back and pulling Naruto closer to him. To his mother, it appeared like he was pulling him into a side hug, but in reality, it was to lean on him for support as he felt he couldn't stand any longer without help.
It was then that Naruto felt the older lady's gaze shift to him, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "What happened to my son?" she demanded, her tone tinged with concern and a hint of maternal authority.
Naruto recognized that glare; it was a look only one woman could ever give him. "Well…" Naruto started, stealing a glance at Jackie, who subtly shook his head, clearly indicating that he didn't want his mother to know the details of what had transpired.
"I really don't know," Naruto responded truthfully, meeting her gaze with sincerity. He wasn't lying; he genuinely didn't know what had led to Jackie being attacked.
The older lady's eyes remained fixed on Naruto for several long seconds, her scrutiny unwavering. Eventually, she relented with a tired sigh, rubbing her eyes in frustration.
"Pinche Pendejo… Come on, let's get you fixed up…" she sighed, turning away and leading the way back to where she had initially emerged from.
Jackie smiled and gently nudged Naruto to follow his mom, a silent invitation the blonde readily accepted. As the three entered the back area, Naruto observed that it seemed to be a manager's office of sorts. He helped Jackie settle into a chair, taking the neighboring seat himself, ready to assist however he could.
"Let me see your face, come on," Jackie's mom insisted, popping open a first aid kit.
"Amaaa… I'm fine," Jackie whined, though he obediently leaned in so his mom could fuss over him.
"Callate," she retorted sharply, causing Jackie to snap his mouth shut with an audible click.
The room descended into an awkward silence as Jackie sat there, resembling a child being tended to by his mother. It was only after several minutes had passed that the silence was broken.
"So, what's your name?" Jackie's mom inquired, her gaze fixed on her son's face.
Naruto's attention snapped to the older woman, his focus momentarily diverted from examining the room and its cameras, which might explain how Jackie's mom knew of their arrival so quickly.
"It's Naruto, ma'am," he replied respectfully.
"Well, Naruto, it's nice to meet you. It's rare for Jackie to bring friends around," she remarked, prompting Naruto to explain that they weren't exactly friends.
However, Jackie swiftly silenced him by kicking his foot, the impact causing Naruto to wince and bite back a curse before responding, "Yeah, we actually became friends recently."
Naruto observed as Jackie's mother's eyes briefly met his own before returning to her task. "Is that so? Well, if he hasn't talked about me yet. My name is Guadalupe Welles. But everyone calls me Mama Welles."
"Well, it was nice to meet you, Mama Welles," Naruto replied with a friendly grin and a nod of his head.
Several minutes elapsed before Mama Welles decided her job was complete and stepped back from her son. "That is the best I can do," she remarked, a hint of frustration evident in her voice as she had finished applying bandages and ointment around Jackie's face.
"Thank you, Mama," Jackie said, rising slowly and planting a soft kiss on his mother's head.
"Be careful, Naruto isn't going to be there every time to keep you safe," Mama Welles teased her son knowingly. She was aware that Jackie had been in a fight, and it was apparent that he hadn't emerged victorious. Yet, despite the altercation, the boy who couldn't have been older than twenty stood before her without a scratch, indicating that Naruto had indeed saved her son from becoming another statistic in the city's violence.
"Of course, Mama," Jackie replied with a smile before turning and opening the door. "Come on, Choom, let's get a few beers," he added, addressing Naruto.
"Sure, and again, it was nice to meet you, Mama Welles," Naruto said with a smile that was almost infectious, eliciting a slight smile from the lady herself.
The two re-entered the main area of the family-owned restaurant and took seats at the bar. "Two beers, Pepe!" Jackie called out, raising two fingers into the air.
"You look like shit, Carnal. What happened to you?" the bartender known as Pepe remarked as he handed the two beers to Naruto and Jackie.
"Camilla's Pinche sister," Jackie sighed, taking a long drink of his cold beer.
Naruto sniffed the bottle and took an experimental swig of his own. He nearly gagged at the taste but kept his face passive. Now, Naruto wasn't one to judge food or drink, but ever since he arrived in this new world, he found that detail about himself changing. For instance, the beer was god awful compared to the stuff Jiraya let him sip when he was younger.
"Who's Camilla?" Naruto asked, forcing himself to take another drink, hoping it would become an acquired taste, though he was unfortunately incorrect about his assumption.
"My ex-girlfriend... We had an argument the other day, and I guess her older sister didn't like seeing her sister crying," Jackie explained, taking another swig from his beer.
"What did you say to her?" Naruto inquired, his curiosity piqued.
"I don't even remember! That's the issue!" Jackie complained, throwing his hands up in the air in exasperation. "But, knowing Camilla's sister, she probably did it for the fun of it… Crazy puta hates me."
Naruto cringed as his mind began to dwell on the implications. "Do you think this is going to cause issues? I just iced one of her chooms," Naruto said quietly, ensuring only Jackie could hear his words.
Jackie took a swig of his beer and tilted his head left and right as if debating with himself. Finally, he swallowed the beer and replied, "Naaaaah, they didn't see your face or hair. For all they know, it was some tiger claw and not you… Just don't show off that mask."
Naruto opened his mouth to reply, but he saw Jackie glare at him as if to drop the subject. This caused him to take another drink of his beer instead. As the night passed, the two finished a beer, only for Jackie to order another. Then another, and then another.
It was only after the sixth beer that Jackie looked at Naruto with a grin, while Naruto hiccuped and returned a slightly scared look of his own.
"Let's do shots!" Jackie exclaimed excitedly, his voice slightly slurred from the alcohol.
Naruto felt himself pale. He was already drunk. He never could drink more than two, maybe three beers before tapping out. Now he was on his sixth with the promise of shots next? He knew he was going to regret it tonight. What made it worse was how he was going to get back home? The prospect of dealing with the consequences was daunting.
"I don't think I can, I still need to head back home, and I live in Kabuki," Naruto weakly argued, attempting to decline Jackie's offer.
"Don't worry, you can crash here. Least I can do for you, saving my ass," Jackie laughed, slapping Naruto on the shoulder. To his surprise, the blonde-haired kid didn't budge an inch besides a slight sway. Usually, when he smacked someone on the back, they went flying forward.
Ignoring the slap on his back, Naruto mulled over Jackie's offer. Perhaps it was the alcohol or some other factor, but he decided to accept. He pulled up his contact list using his contact lens, a weird sensation to navigate while intoxicated. After a minute of fumbling, he found the contact tab and selected the first mox that appeared on his list. He sent a message explaining that he wouldn't be in tonight and would see them tomorrow.
With that settled, Naruto glanced at Jackie, who was beaming at him with a bright smile, and sighed. "Alright, deal."
"Ahaaa, Pepe! Two glasses of Patron!" Jackie shouted with enthusiasm.
Naruto wasn't familiar with Patron but assumed it must be Mexican liquor. Within moments, a small glass filled with clear liquid appeared before him. Naruto picked it up slowly and looked at Jackie, who raised his own glass in a toast.
"Salud!" Jackie cheered, tapping his shot glass to Naruto's and downing it in one go.
Naruto followed suit, emptying his glass and was surprised by how smooth the liquor was as it slid down his throat like water. However, that illusion quickly vanished as he felt a fiery burn spread from his chest to his stomach. After that, everything became a blur of memories.
As Naruto recalled how the night had unfolded, he sighed and shook his head, already feeling the hangover subside. Silently, he thanked Kurama for the benefits of having him around. Yet, despite the fox's presence, he hadn't heard a word from Kurama. Naruto knew he was there; he could feel his presence. But it seemed like something was keeping them from interacting with one another.
"[Fuck me, it feels like Adam Smasher fucked me up]," Jackie groaned, slowly pushing himself off the couch and holding his head.
"What?" Naruto asked, still unable to understand Spanish, a skill he knew he needed to rectify soon, perhaps with the help of clones and online videos.
"Nothing, Choom… You look like you slept well," Jackie replied, peering down at Naruto and noting how he didn't appear the slightest bit hungover.
"Could have slept better, especially if it wasn't on the floor," Naruto said, stretching his back and hearing a satisfying pop.
"I offered you the couch, but by then you were already asleep on the floor," Jackie countered, a factual statement. The moment they had entered the side room of his garage, Naruto had slowly laid on the floor and fallen asleep.
"Sure… Well, anyways, thanks for letting me crash here, Jackie. But I need to get going," Naruto replied, rising from the floor to stand.
"I mean, you can go… Or we can get some breakfast inside… Or actually lunch. Damn, it's already noon," Jackie suggested, glancing at the clock to see it was eleven fifty A.M.
Naruto, not one to pass up food, froze mid-walk and turned to look at Jackie. "What kind of food?"
"Only the number one best cure for a hangover. Menudo-"
"I'm in!" Naruto said, cutting off Jackie, not needing to hear him finish the sentence. He was already craving the Mexican soup he had tried just the day before. Of course, it didn't beat Ichiraku Ramen. But it was up there, and if he somehow ever found a way back, he was going to show it to the old man.
~~~SCENE~~~

"Do we really need to go anywhere?" Rita asked Sasuke, watching him get dressed while she herself lay on her side, still naked on the bed.

"Yes, Naruto and I have our shift tonight, and I doubt Suzie is going to let us miss it," Sasuke replied, buckling his pants while consciously avoiding looking at Rita's naked form. He knew that if he did, he would be pulled back into sharing her bed once again.

"Ughhhh," Rita groaned as she threw her head back and cursed under her breath. She really didn't want to get out of bed, call it laziness. Or to be more precise, wanting to have more fun with the black haired guy who, even though he was just a virgin the night prior, still knew how to make her toes curl and moan out his name.

Sasuke smirked at Rita's reaction but stayed quiet, allowing her to voice her complaints. He couldn't deny it; he wanted to spend the rest of the day in bed with her. With no calls from the Moxes or Naruto, he knew there was nothing urgent to worry about. Last night had been one of the best he'd had in recent years, and he hoped for a repeat today. However, he also understood that he couldn't neglect the second chance he had been given.

Rita finally rose from the bed and headed to the bathroom. Upon arrival, she switched on the shower. "If anything, you can join me in the shower! I doubt you want to go out smelling like you do!" she called out to Sasuke.

Sasuke raised an eyebrow and took a sniff of himself before wincing and emitting a small sigh, which gradually turned into a chuckle. Conceding that Rita had a point, he began to undress himself and headed towards the bathroom.

~~~SCENE~~~
"If you keep eating like that, Chamaco, you might become one of my mom's favorite customers," Jackie laughed as he observed Naruto down his fifth bowl of Menudo.
"I might just be until I find a good ramen spot," Naruto commented between spoonful's of soup.
The two fell into a comfortable silence of eating, which was abruptly interrupted by a new voice.
"Jackie, mah man!"
Jackie let out a groan and muttered a few words in Spanish, which Naruto could assume were curses.
"What do you want, Kirk?" Jackie said, his voice laced with obvious irritation.
"Come on, Jackie, you still can't be angry about that last gig. I said it was an accident!" The man known as Kirk insisted. Naruto scanned him from head to toe and decided he wasn't a threat. His hair was shaved on both sides with the top slicked back. He wore shaded aviators and a tracksuit that just gave off the vibe of a bullshitter.
"How do you accidentally mistake Tiger Claws for Scavs!" Jackie half shouted as he stood up from his seat, not wanting Mama Welles to hear the argument.
"I still paid you for it, ALONG with compensation. Did I not?" Kirk shot back with a shrug.
Jackie looked at Kirk and couldn't find a retort. In the end, Kirk was right. He had paid him a decent amount for the troubles. It wasn't enough to cover his near-death experience, but it was something Jackie could accept.
"Still, I'm not taking the job," Jackie said firmly, sitting back down and resuming his meal of menudo.
"Come on, Jackie, this one is worth it," Kirk insisted, his voice sounding like a salesman pitching a sale.
"... How so?" Jackie inquired, intrigued by the possibility of a nice payout.
"Some of my connections got wind of some preem military gear coming in from the docks," Kirk began his pitch, taking a seat at the table while his bodyguard stood over him.
"Maelstrom territory?" Jackie questioned, raising an eyebrow skeptically.
"Yes, but there shouldn't be any of that. The gear is for Sixth Street, so it has to be hush-hush so none of the other gangs get wind of it," Kirk explained.
"So you want me to nick some gear, that is already hot gear stolen by Sixth Street, currently in Maelstrom territory, and then no doubt drive it to somewhere here in Heywood or Pacifica," Jackie summarized, laying out the probable details of the job.
Kirk nodded. "Ace in one, Jackie, my Latino brother."
"No."
"What? Come on, Jackie! The pay will be worth it! Twenty-five thousand eddies and a pick of one thing you want from the shipment," Kirk urged, attempting to sweeten the deal.
Jackie froze, processing the offer. "Are you serious?"
"Silverhand type serious," Kirk replied with a grin, knowing he had Jackie hooked.
Several seconds of silence stretched before Jackie sighed. "Fine, am I doing this alone or what's up?"
"I got two- hold up, getting a call…" Kirk said, his expression shifting as his eyes flashed, and he looked off into the distance.
"What is it… Okay… uh huh… what do you mean?... Are you serious?!... You gonks!... No, I can't fucking reschedule; this isn't some meeting!" Kirk argued and nearly shouted, his frustration evident. Naruto and Jackie could only hear his side of the conversation.
As the call ended, Kirk sighed heavily. "So it's just you… Unless you have two of your own."
"Oh for fuck's sakes, Kirk…" Jackie muttered under his breath, exasperated by the situation.
"My brother and I can help," Naruto interjected, finally choosing to enter the conversation. He had originally planned on staying quiet, but the prospect of earning eddies piqued his interest.
Him and Sasuke had realized recently that even though it was nice to live within the Moxes' main base, it still wasn't their home, just a place to lay their heads. While Suzie had started paying them, the amount was laughable. So hearing the possibility of a payout of twenty-five thousand eddies each for him and Sasuke was too good to pass up.
"Naruto, I don't think you know-" Jackie began, but was quickly cut off by Kirk.
"Perfect! I'll send Jackie the deets, and he can forward them over," Kirk said briskly, already rising from the table and making his way to the exit.
"Pinche…" Jackie whispered under his breath as he rubbed his face, feeling the weight of the situation.
"Come on, Jackie, it'll be easy, in and out," Naruto urged, drawing a parallel between the gig and missions he might have undertaken back in Konoha.
"You don't get it, Naruto, Kirk is a fucking weasel. Usually, his gigs have some very vital information he 'forgets' to mention," Jackie explained to the blonde-haired idiot.
"It'll be fine, my brother and I had something like that happen to us once," Naruto replied confidently, recalling a famous C-rank mission that turned out to be an A-rank mission in disguise.
"Yeah, I doubt it…" Jackie muttered skeptically. "Anyways, if you're actually down, take my deets, and I'll send you everything. Meet me back here at five, and we'll go from there."
"No problem, Jackie," Naruto said, dropping the last of his eddies on the table to pay for his meal and walking out of the bar as he tossed on his coat.
~~~SCENE~~~

"I almost thought you were zeroed last night," Suzie said as Naruto walked into the Moxes.

"I sent a text to Anna last night that I was going to be crashing at a friend's place," Naruto replied.

"Oh, she got a text alright," Suzie said, her eyes flashing to see the message that was forwarded to her.

"Hey Anna, I am alive," Suzie read, noting the only thing Naruto sent.

Naruto looked at Rita and pulled up his messages to see she was right. Although all four words were somehow spelled incorrectly.

"Well, nothing to worry about. I just had too much to drink and decided to crash at a friend's place," Naruto said, rubbing the back of his head with an awkward smile.

"Uh huh… You know, the girls would find it rude you couldn't give them the time of day. But then you stay at someone else's place," Suzie remarked.

Naruto, realizing what she meant, raised his hands defensively. "Wait, no, it isn't like that. It was a guy friend."

Suzie arched an eyebrow. "So you swing that way? I'll let Mateo know."

"No, nothing happened. Don't say a word to anyone!" Naruto pleaded, clasping his hands together.

"I'll think about it," Suzie said with a shrug, leaving Naruto to wonder if she'd keep her word.

"Thanks… Also, Sasuke and I need to have tonight off. Something came up and we have to take care of it," Naruto said, hoping Suzie wouldn't be too strict.

Suzie's eyes narrowed for a few seconds before she shrugged her shoulders. "Go for it, just don't expect another night off again for a long time."

Naruto let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Suzie," he said, already walking off to his room. "And they say you don't have a heart."

"What was that?" she asked, not able to hear the second part of Naruto's comment.

~~~SCENE~~~
An hour passed before Sasuke walked into their shared room with Naruto. "What's this about us having something to do and needing the night off?" Sasuke asked Naruto, his voice carrying a hint of intrigue.
Naruto looked up from his phone and set it down, preparing to give Sasuke the rundown of what had transpired, starting from when he saved Jackie.
Once he finished, he looked at Sasuke, who was gazing off into the distance, likely pondering the gig.
"So, we're doing this?" Naruto said, his tone tinged with anticipation.
Sasuke met Naruto's gaze and contemplated the opportunity. They both needed the eddies, and the gig seemed like just the thing to secure them.
"We're in," Sasuke affirmed, his decision firm and resolute.
A/N: I know a slower chapter, but the next one will make up for it as Naruto and Sasuke will be doing their first gig. How is it going to go? Quiet and easy? Loud and tough? It was a gig from Kirk after all.
REPLIES
Samuel Santillan - I liked what you were thinking. But nope, Naruto was of course met with something just a tad bit more life changing then a love life.
Engulfing Darkness - I thought it would be funny to have Naruto enjoy another dish that still resembled his one true love of a dish. Thank you.
Park Otsutsuki - I can't say much, but let's just say. Your reviews aren't being ignored and they either give me some good ideas or just solidify some of my ideas.
Killermemester - Thanks man, I'll try.
Shawn. Just shawn - A quick hacking Sasuke could be dangerous, and that will lead to some interesting dialogue with some future characters. And yes man I agree I hate actually dislike maelstrom the most. Most of the gangs have some modicum of respect while maelstrom are arguably worse than Scavs.
Icedragon512 - Arasaka will have some interesting interactions. Along with Militech, Biotechnica and just about everyone and things majoring in Night City.
Spellbat - You got that right :)
Almevo - I'm not going to throw away the possibility of Naruto and Sasuke sharing their beds with more than one female. Who that will be will be for the future.
Riba Nyabom - Thank you thank you
Lil Author Vert - I did have a chuckle when I saw your original comment lol
