Hello, fellow readers! I'm back with a special one-shot in honor of White Day, a special day celebrated in Japan every year on March 14th. But I wanted to post it today because today, March 13th, is my birthday! And I'm now just starting to get over my sinus infection so it's nice that I'm able to post this!
I've put a lot of love, thought and research (I'll post my resources at the end) into this. My friends, MP and MKK, my fellow admin and mod for my InuKag Facebook group (let me know if you're interested or want to know more) have helped me with this and I'd like to thank them from the bottom of my heart "I LOVE YOU LADIES!" And I couldn't have done this without them, so I give credit where credit is due!
This story is part of my ATR Universe-which is ongoing, and the pups-aside from Moroha, are of my own creation. A New Year's Miracle is recommended you read first to understand the events of this story.
I rated this M just because there's nudity and a breastfeeding scene- no lemons or limes(Just hints of them)
Disclaimer: InuYasha and Yashahime are not mine. Every other character in this story are my own.
Love & Blessings: A White Day Story
"Kagome, do you think it might coming time… to… go back home?"
Kagome, who was nursing their month-old daughter, looked at her hanyou sitting beside her, face pensive. Rocking little Tsukiko she answered, "You too, huh?"
He grunted. "It's been a few months, and so much as happened." InuYasha stared at his newborn daughter, suckling away looking so content. "I didn't wanna…you know… steal any time away from your family." He cradled the soft head, color and texture like his own as were the tiny ears twitching now and then. "I know how much you've missed them and…"
"You didn't want to say anything sooner." Kagome finished for him. She'd seen the longing in his eyes as of late every time he stared at the well house or the Goshinboku, especially after Tsukiko's birth. "Yeah, I've been wondering how long the well will stay open. So far it has, but I fear it won't be for much longer."
"Exactly!" InuYasha instinctively took off his haori to shield his wife, to prevent her from getting chills from the early spring air as they sat peacefully under the sacred tree. He looked towards his girls before looking out to see his older children frolicking about. "I think even the pups are starting to miss home." He smirked as Katana and InuKin chased Moroha around, the toddlers-nearly a year old now, were getting faster. "And to tell the truth, I really miss our hut, our own land… I miss seeing the wide-open sky, running anywhere I please."
"Same here." The mother of four giggled at the sight before looking back down, her hanyou child close to finishing. "And to tell the truth, I''ve been feeling homesick myself for a while."
"I hate being selfish but, I think sooner the better. I don't know how much more I can take of your village's overwhelming stench." He crinkled his nose and pinned his ears in distaste. "And I know it's the same for Moroha and the twins." He often saw them rubbing their noses, sneezing and coughing more as of late. Even his newborn often turned her face towards him or her mother, her tiny button nose buried in familiarity. "We need to go back home." He looked at Kagome, eyes serious.
She nodded once, agreeing. Wincing, she firmly pulled her daughter back. "What is with your children loving to bite me when I'm nursing them?" She playfully narrowed her eyes as she covered herself.
"What?" InuYasha took the pup and patted her back. "They're part Inu woman, of course they're gonna bite." He smiled lasciviously. "I thought you'd be used to it with how much I have-"
"InuYasha!" Kagome cut him off, face turning red which only enhanced his smugness. Good thing he was so deliciously handsome holding their daughter….
The duo watched in silence as the young pups played, so carefree and joyful. The weather, which carried the promised warmth of spring while maintaining winter's chill was welcome after the last few months of constant cold. They hadn't intended to stay as long as they had but after becoming pregnant and giving birth all within a month, they were holding off until Kagome was recovered enough to travel back home.
And InuYasha could sense she was recovering well, probably within a week or so she'd be fully healed. His eyes gazed lovingly at the result of that pain, looking so unbelievably cute, ears down in sleep and tiny fists against her rosy cheeks. The pup loved her naps. His lips, soft as a butterfly's wings kissed and nuzzled her nose. He felt his wife lean against him, watching her fingers caress a tiny fist. "How long?"
After a long sigh, she answered, "Perhaps within a week or so?" Feeling a bit tired, she nuzzled against her husband's warmth and felt his arm wrap around her. "I can sense you getting antsy."
Nuzzling and inhaling her calming, delicious scent he grunted. He could lose himself in her aroma. "As are you." His hand began to rub up and down her arm. "We just gotta tell the pups."
"After we tell Mama." While her heart yearned for her feudal home, Kagome wasn't too keen on breaking the news to her mom but knew they had to.
"I thought I'd find you two here."
The couple turned towards the woman herself approaching them. "Hi, Mom." Kagome stood up, as did InuYasha. "We were just coming to find you."
"I had a feeling you were." The older woman, while much older with a broad stripe of gray, still retained that spark and warmth a mother/grandmother could hold. "Come. I made us some tea."
Summoning the children back in, the family made their way inside. Mama Higurashi supplied snacks for Moroha and the twins, all eager to munch down. After making sure all three were sat and eating, the adults moved to the living room for privacy with a tray for themselves.
They settled around the low table, and offering to take little Tsukiko from her dad, Mama Higurashi started. "I can sense you two are thinking about going back home."
InuYasha and Kagome looked at each other, one grabbing the other's hand and they nodded. "We have talked about it, yes. The well remains opens for us but we don't know for much longer."
"And with Kagome nearly healed from the birth…" InuYasha squeezed his beloved's hand.
"I understand." The grandmother looked down at the napping girl, grateful to see such a miracle, looking so much like her papa. "All along I figured you all were here for just a short time. And whatever powers that allowed the well to open in the first place, can only hold for so long." The elderly woman's heart was saddened at the thought of once again losing not just her daughter this time, but her son-in-law and their growing family. But looking at them, expressions of sadness, longing, anxiety… she knew they belonged 500 years in the past.
"We've been gone for so long and left right away without telling our friends back home that we were leaving. They might be worried and think something has happened to us or worse, like they did when we were gone for 14 years. I'd-we'd", she corrected, involving her husband. "Really like to stay longer, but InuYasha is right. I think he's more comfortable back in our own time, in our own home. He's getting too anxious."
InuYasha replied" Damn it, woman! I'm not anxious-I don't get anxious!" Kagome rolled her eyes" Yeah yeah, sure you don't. "
InuYasha hmmphed, and his wife giggled before kissing his cheek.
Looking down at the hanyou pup to distract herself, she nodded. "Well, as much as we love having you back, your hearts are calling for home on the other side. And I won't stop you." Her eyes met her daughter and beloved son-in-law. "But… if you're willing to stay for a week more…."
Mom?" Kagome knew that tone.
"White Day is coming up. And I know you two won't have time to yourselves now with four pups, including a newborn needing constant feeding." Mama Higurashi's mind was whirling with plans. "Plus, I know you both need a break away from your children-don't argue with me young lady. I see how tired you still are, regardless of what you say. And I see you InuYasha, rubbing your head constantly. The smells and noises of Tokyo aren't doing you any favors."
The couple looked at each other before looking down. She was right, as usual.
"Now…" The grandmother was positively giddy and Kagome and InuYasha could both see it. They wondered what exactly she had in mind.
A few days later: March 13th
"Now there should be enough milk for Tsukiko until we get back." Kagome told her mom. "She's not exactly thrilled about the bottle, but she'll feed from it." The face of disgust and displeasure her infant daughter made at the first sighting of said object, made her giggle.
"And we've caught Katana trying to climb on the Goshinboku." InuYasha, holding said child who refused to let him go. "If she does it again, Moroha, you'll have to get her down." He eyed his teenage daughter. "And try not to let Kin out of your sight either." His son was currently on his shoulders. "Seems lately they're trying to give us heart attacks."
"And don't forget to put Kat and Kin down for their naps." Kagome added. "Otherwise, they're going to run amok." And with their father's youkai energy, that was a recipe for disaster.
"No worries, Mom, Dad!" The shinhanyou pounded her chest. "You can count on me!"
"I know we can, sweetheart." Kagome pulled her daughter close. "We have complete faith in you." Kissing her forehead, she pulled back. "Try not to give your Obaa too much grief."
"Don't you two worry about a thing." Mama Higurashi pulled her eldest grand-pup to her side. "I have plenty of activities to keep them occupied."
Nodding once, Kagome lovingly kissed little Tsukiko before allowing InuYasha to do the same, quickly nuzzling her face before the mother passed the infant to her older sister.
Leaving her in Moroha's capable hands, it was time to say goodbye to the twins. This was the hard part. "Come on you two."
"Papa!" Kat protested, snuggling into her dad. "Papa!"
"Now Kat, remember what we talked about." InuYasha hated seeing his little girl like this. He and Kagome never left the twins for more than a few hours before, but they would be gone for three days this time. "Go to mama," He handed Kat off to Kagome and got his son down.
"Don't be sad, sweetheart." Kagome wiped the few tears from Kat's face. "Mama and Papa aren't leaving you forever. I promise." She kissed the girl's nose. Then she tapped her son's nose. "We always come back."
"Always." InuYasha promised vehemently. He nuzzled his son's head. He heard a soft, "Papa," before looking up at him. "Remember that and be strong. Okay?"
The twins nodded, still saddened by their parents' leaving. Stroking her daughter's silver head to soothe the child, Kagome hugged her close before telling her to say goodbye to Papa-and doing so with a big kiss and handing her off to her Obaa. Doing the same with Kin, InuYasha put his son down by his grandmother.
"Now I contacted Mariko and she's expecting you within the next few hours. You have the directions?" Mama Higurashi held her grandpups to her.
Gathering her old friend, her trusty yellow backpack, Kagome nodded. "No worries."
Patting his eldest on the head, he conveyed how much trust and confidence he had for Moroha. The teenage shinhanyou understood and held her baby sister close. And watching her eye her twin siblings with the same protectiveness soothed his aching heart.
"Have fun!" Moroha waved as her mother got on her father's back.
"And don't worry about your babies. They're in good hands" Mama Higurashi assured them. "Say bye-bye to mama and papa!"
Bidding farewell and blowing kisses to her children Kagome settled on her husband's back, the hanyou and miko waved one last time before taking off in a bound.
Sengoku Sakura
After roughly 45 minutes navigating the concrete jungle of Tokyo, they finally reached their destination on the outskirts of Hakone: The Sengoku Sakura Onsen Ryokan. They landed not far from the entrance and took in the surrounding views.
Taking in a deep breath, the smell of the nearby hot springs and the fresh mountain air with the surrounding forest, InuYasha stretched his arms and smiled from ear to ear. Going from the modern smells of cars and the noise of modern day living to what he was used to in the feudal era was a welcome change. "God how I missed this." That was followed by a sneeze. "Damn sakura." The flowers always gave him a headache.
Kagome smiled at how her hanyou was starting to relax. "I know." She took in the breathtaking views, from the late afternoon sun shining on the lake to the tall figure of Fuji in the distance. "It definitely reminds me of home." After InuYasha took her bag to carry, she took his free hand and quickly led them into the forest to the path which led to the ryokan, and away from the sakura, which caused her hanyou to get grumpy due to his headache.
"From what mom told me, this place has been here since the early 1900's and has been run by the same family for generations. Mariko-san, Mom's childhood friend is the current owner, along with her husband and is helped by her two daughters." Oh, how she loved hearing the birdsong around them, and the freshness that comes with early spring. "Apparently, whenever mom had a free night with no kids and gramps away, she'd come here. I always wondered how she keeps looking so young."
"Probably explains why's she always in a good mood."
"Probably why she's been able to handle not only me and Souta but also four-now five grandchildren."
The appearance of stone pagodas and a red wooden bridge marked the entrance into the resort. The Sengoku Sakura was among the finest and most traditional Ryokan in the area, built along the river which flowed through the resort like village. The flow of the river along with the forest and mountains enclosing the village made them believe they were back home in the feudal era. And for InuYasha, while at first skeptical, felt more at ease.
After crossing the bridge and turning right, they found the Sengoku Sakura marked by traditional Kanji on a wooden plank. Walking through the door hanging, they were immediately embraced by the warmth of not only the *genkan*, but also of the line of people who all bowed.
"Kagome-chan, InuYasha-san, welcome to Senkogu Sakura." A middle-aged woman with graying hair, light brown eyes, and a beautiful evening blue kimono greeted them. "I am Mariko, it is an honor to finally meet you."
The couple bowed in return. "Arigatou, Mariko-san." Kagome slipped her shoes off and slipped on the slippers provided. "We are happy to be here."
"When your mother called and explained the situation, I was more than delighted to set aside one of our best rooms for you and your husband." Leading the way, and instructing a younger woman to follow behind, she led the couple further into the ryokan. "Masako went on about you two needing to get away, especially after the recent birth of your daughter; congratulations by the way." After receiving thanks, Mariko continued. "She loves to talk, Masako does. That's why we get along so well." After a small giggle, she began pointing out all the features of her establishment. Everything from the wooden hallways to the shyoji marking the different rooms to the outer walkways around the entire premises that overlooked the gardens felt so authentic and genuine the couple was in awe.
"Now like I said, I set aside one of our best rooms." Mariko stopped a while later, in front of a door with a wooden plank beside it, "Heavenly Paradise," in black Kanji. Unlocking the door, she led them in into a spacious and very traditional looking room, removing their slippers before stepping onto the tatami.
"Wow…." Kagome stepped forward and just soaked it all in. "This is incredible."
"There are complimentary drinks, including our local sake made especially for the Sengoku Sakura to welcome you!" A traditional sake *tokkuri*, with two cups sat atop a dais in the center, the focal point. " As well as water and green tea and some of our local snacks. We serve dinner in two hours, and if you'd like we can serve to you here privately or in our public eating area." Mariko led them into the second room, "Now this is where you can access your private *onsen*, which also includes a hidden shower."
Kagome knew she and InuYasha were going to make very good use of this onsen the next few days. Oh, what she'd like to do….
"Ah I see your husband is already indulging in the snacks." Mariko giggled. "Particularly the beef ramen flavored potato chips."
The miko turned to see that, indeed, her hanyou was in pure heaven. He looked so adorable. "He loves ramen and potato chips, so I'm not surprised."
"Damn this is delicious!" He opened the second bag and stuffed a handful in his mouth.
Sighing, she looked at the older woman who in turn giggled. "No need to apologize. I understand men and their insatiable appetites. I can appreciate someone who loves our local fare."
After introducing her eldest daughter- Suzuko, who would be their attendant during their stay, and letting them know if they needed anything at all, to call them directly, the two women left the couple alone.
"Let's toast, InuYasha." She knelt at the low table and poured the rice wine into his cup, and then hers.
"Toast to what?" He took his cup, sniffed and tried not to think of the sake incident where the sake master practically drowned him.
"To a happy and fun getaway!" Kagome announced. "To just the two of us and enjoying each other's company!"
Nodding, they cheered, "*Kanpai*!" and downed their portion.
"I have one." InuYasha took the tokkuri and reciprocated. It had a pleasant fruity aroma and was worlds better than he thought. Lifting his cup he said, with all seriousness, "To being with you, a wonderful woman that never fails to make my heart go warm. And blessing me with four beautiful pups."
Holding back tears Kagome added, "To being with such a wonderful man, and his smile that I'll never get tired of seeing. And for being such an amazing husband and an even better father."
" Kanpai!" And downed the second round.
"I don't know about you, but I'm dying to get in the onsen before dinner." Kagome announced after a while and went to put away her yellow bag in the closet. "It's been ages since we've been in a hot spring." She started shedding her modern outfit.
"And without the pups." InuYasha whispered in her ear and copping a feel-and and smiling at her gasp, as he walked on out to the veranda overlooking the onsen.
He had to admit, it was a pretty decent size, and very much looked like the ones back home. The woods around them, boulders outlining the onsen, the sky which opened above them. And in the faraway distance he could make out the majestic. The birdsong along with the wind whispering through the branches that were starting to green, gave the hanyou a sense of peace since leaving his children for the first time in this era.
"Why are you still dressed?" His wife's voice woke him. "I've got our towels-here is yours." She handed him a set and went off in the direction of the shower. He barely noticed the towels, instead watching his wife's bare derriere. "I can feel your eyes on my butt. Why don't you undress and join me in showering, or else I'll just have to start without you."
"Like hell that's gonna happen, woman!" With his demonic speed, he shrugged off his firerat robe, hakama, kosode and fundoshi, and helped her shower and vice versa.
Stepping into the onsen for the first time was a wonderful treat. The natural steam combined with the delicious warmth of the water was like pure heaven. "Oh, this is so… wonderful." She splashed water on her chest, wading through the water, "I feel like I'm back home."
InuYasha hummed in agreement, focusing on the creature before him. The way her pale skin glowed, her long hair, now in a bun showed off her long delicate neck, a few stray tendrils now stuck her face. The way her hands glided over her body, fuller and more curvaceous after birthing his four pups. In many ways she was far from the skinny teenage girl who woke him from the Goshinboku so many years ago, she slowly matured into a woman in the year they traveled together. But now even as a wife and mother, he could still see the joy and peace of that teenage spirit that broke through his stone-cold exterior.
He followed at his own pace, and appreciated how the water wasn't too hot for him. He still had nightmares from when Souta had practically burned him. He came to a spot where he could lean back and spread out, enjoying the natural beauty before him-and he wasn't referring to the surrounding woods.
Noticing how at ease InuYasha was, Kagome swam over and naturally leaned against him. The feel of his muscular chest, how deliciously warm it felt against her back, and how his arms automatically embraced her to him…
"It's been ages since we relaxed like this…" Her eyes closed, safe and secure. "I didn't realize how much we needed this."
"Yeah…" His head, hair also tied in a bun courtesy of Kagome, rested on the boulder, content. "How are you feeling?"
"A lot better." Her foot lazily started rubbing his own. "I feel sore now and then, but at least this time we didn't have to worry about bandits." She recalled the events when, just three days after the twins were born, a huge brigade of bandits invaded their village. "I wasn't in the best shape, I admit that. At least here, I've been able to recover without fear of anything happening."
Her foot against his was stirring the sleeping beast in him. In response, his claws caressed her thigh, causing her to moan. "I was surprised at your strength. And how ferociously you protected everyone." Like how she'd defend him numerous times over the years.
"That's what a mother does, protect her family." Kagome loved how his claws gently caressed her. She also felt something rising against her back. "Speaking of which," she turned her face up to his, "I think we should hold off on having more children…" At his puzzled look she clarified, "at least until the twins and Tsukiko are older. Raising a teenage shinhanyou, one year old shinhanyou twins, and a newborn hanyou I think is enough of a challenge wouldn't you agree?"
Letting out a breath, he grunted. "Yeah, you're right." Caring for and raising three children was a challenge in and of itself, but now with a newborn daughter who was a hanyou like him, he could see why they should hold off on more pups. But…" Does that mean no more…?"
Laughing at his pitiful expression, she turned around and straddled him. "No need to fret. Of course, we can still…mate without the risk of getting pregnant." She cradled his face, noticing the faint outline of his demon purple stripes. "I've taken precautions, and we just have to avoid my most fertile time that's all."
His demon, while protesting not impregnating her for a long time, roared at the thought of continuing to mate with her. Her body needed time to recover before she was ready to be pupped again, and until their youngest were a bit older. Was it getting even hotter out here? "What did you have in mind…mate?"
Kagome, hearing the deeper timbre that signaled his demon half was surfacing, not to mention his…sword growing in length between her legs, was all to eager to show him a few of the ways they could play, in the complete seclusion of their onsen.
A few hours later, after another shower and slathering his wife with the complimentary bottle of moisturizing gel that made her skin feel incredibly smooth and sexy-during which he caused his wife to come, both now in the Ryokan's yukata of light blue settled at the low table with their dinner served in a beautiful presentation.
"We were made aware of your fondness for ramen, InuYasha-san" Suzuko knelt and present the covered bowl. The hanyou was impressed with her professionalism and courtesy. His ears remained uncovered since arriving, and the girl showed no signs of fear or disgust. Curiosity of course, but she remained completely composed. "So, our chef-my father, has prepared a ramen dish," and lifted the cover, "with local vegetables, *chasu* and slices of our most tender beef, as well as a *hot spring egg*."
He couldn't contain the enormous growl his stomach gave. He blushed, embarrassed. His wife though couldn't help but laugh. "Thank you, Suzuko-chan. It just means he's absolutely in love."
Covering her mouth, Suzuko held back her giggle. "Indeed." And presenting Kagome-san with her main course, the girl bowed and left them to their meal.
"I have to admit that look absolutely divine, InuYasha." She picked up a dish of sashimi and dipped it in soy sauce. "You wouldn't mind sharing, would you?"
Back in the early days he would've flat out said HELL NO. But after traveling with her and learning that she meant no ill will and would not take his food away, he would relent and start to share. Old habits were hard to break but in time, he learned that sharing with his wife and by extension his kids, was an enjoyable experience.
"Just don't touch that egg." He blocked her chopsticks with his own-which was aiming for said item. "That's mine, woman."
"Haven't you heard that sharing is caring, InuYasha?" She snatched a slice of beef, scooped up some of her rice and ate some.
He grunted and chose to scoop up a huge portion of noodles and toppings. The flavor explosion was incredible, and he saw stars. After the initial taste he couldn't finish his ramen fast enough, leaving the hot spring egg for last.
They shared all the delicacies on their table, feeding each other now and then and sharing the beer-which the hanyou surprisingly enjoyed, and the local sake. Everything was tasty and filling, and apart from InuYasha's ramen, it was a traditional *Kaiseki*. Even the dessert of seasonal fresh fruit and a cup of green tea was not to be ignored.
Afterward they decided to explore the village resort outside the ryokan, and with a jacket and *genka* for Kagome-InuYasha opted for his usual fire rat ensemble, and barefoot, the two, hand in hand strolled along the river, admiring the old Japanese style buildings now alight with lanterns and pagodas with candles that made them feel like they were back in the feudal ages. Kagome even spotted an old teahouse, and dragged her reluctant husband in. The teahouse itself was among the first buildings in the area and has remained in the same family for generations. The tea recipe the owner explained as he was serving them, had not changed in over 300 years. They also tried the teahouse's most popular sweet, *dango* coated with sweet, caramelized soy sauce. In the end, InuYasha was glad he was dragged in.
"Oh, that was so delicious-I can't even eat another bite!" Kagome sighed as they made their way back. A fulfilling dinner and then the teahouse treats were enough to make her tired. "I don't know about you, but I'm ready for bed."
The hanyou couldn't help but chuckle at her. "Haven't seen you eat this much since you were pupped."
"You're lucky that I'm so full and that you're so handsome right now otherwise I'd have to kick you." She murmured, leaning against him. At the moment, his hair was tied back leaving his neck exposed, leaving the sexy features of his face and eyes to stand out. She didn't miss the admiring looks girls and women alike gave him as they walked by.
"Like you could kick me, woman." An ear flicked. "Last time you tried you ended up kicking a huge rock. You're lucky you didn't break any toes."
"Well, if you hadn't moved…" She growled back.
And so, the playful banter continued as they walked all around the resort, stopping at one of the many foot baths along the way. The night was a clear one, millions of stars dotting the black velvet sky. With Kagome leaning her head against his strong shoulder, InuYasha held her close, thinking how nothing could be better than this.
Day 2: March 14th (White Day)
InuYasha couldn't remember the last time he slept so soundly. Or so serenely. Just him and his Kagome. No mother-in-law, no nosey brothers, and no pups clamoring for their attention. No, in this cozy cocoon, surrounded by nature it was them. Alone.
It was still early, he guessed. It was still dark and could see the faint nightlights around the onsen through the shyoji. Always an early riser no matter where he was, the hanyou took the time to reflect before starting his day. He could tell his wife, head nestled on his chest, arm around his waist and one leg thrown possessively over his, was still sleeping soundly. After their walk the night before, they settled down with a nice cup of tea and took advantage of the giant futon, which was ready and set for them courtesy of Suzuko. They shed their clothes and proceeded to play "who can hold out the longest"-which InuYasha won, and after some soft kissing and caressing, the pair fell asleep.
Eyeing the shyoji that separated the onsen from their room, he wondered if Kagome would be up for more relaxation before their breakfast arrived. They decided they'd dine-for all their meals here, in their room, and arranged the time the night before. And last night's bath seemed to really help Kagome's body in healing. Plus, he realized how much he loved seeing her glistening and glowing in the steam looking so relaxed and content.
Turns out it didn't take much convincing. After a series of good morning kisses, Kagome was ecstatic at the thought of another bath. And after their pre-onsen shower, the couple once again indulged. According to Mariko-san, The Sengoku Sakura's onsens were simple springs; while not containing many minerals, helped with ailments like fatigue and high blood pressure, with the added benefit of leaving their skin soft and smoother than before. Even after just one bath, Kagome began to feel a difference especially in her lower region.
She rested her arms on a flat rock and gazed at the gorgeous scenery beyond their paradise. Beyond the forest she could make out a faraway lake. Unfortunately, it was forecast to be an overcast day with a chance of rain, therefore Fuji-san was in hiding. After a few minutes she felt her husband behind her and started messaging her shoulders.
"Kami that feels nice." She whispered, closed her eyes and rested her head on her arms. Oh, how she loved his hands. "Don't stop."
"Don't fall asleep, woman." He reminded her. "Don't want you drowning on me." He loved how she only grunted in response. She only grunted if she was truly and utterly relaxed. Plus, a massage in their onsen was something he had never tried before. Sure she's massaged his ears on occasion in hots springs back home, but never reciprocated until now. He needed to do this more often.
The sky lightened with the dawn, an overcast sky promising rain. After a while, he gathered up his wife and carried her out to shower and dress before their meal arrived. Once again, he applied that gel she loved so much. He'd never felt her skin so soft and silky smooth before. He couldn't stop touching her.
In keeping with Kaiseki, they were presented once again with a filling breakfast. Kagome loved how InuYasha was embracing the variety of food. It wasn't unlike the food they'd normally consume back home, but how it's prepared and presented, along with being served was something new. She loved the variety of vegetables, and the grilled fish-salted salmon, she dipped in citrus soy sauce. InuYasha devoured the pickled daikon and the eggs-or onsen tamago, which Suzuko explained the eggs were boiled in the hot spring water, flavored with fish stock, a hit of soy sauce and garnished with scallions. And was also served with tea, this time oolong.
While Kagome was getting ready, Mariko asked InuYasha to take a quick walk. Reassuring the hanyou they wouldn't go far and letting Kagome know, the elder woman led the way to one of the two gardens- the smaller, of the ryokan.
"InuYasha, forgive me for being so insistent but I wanted to give this to you without your wife knowing. You do realize that today is White Day, right?"
InuYasha, thankfully having been told of the holiday and its significance, nodded. Folding his arms in his usual pose, he eyed the small garden, just as vibrant and lively with nature as beyond the onsen. "Its where the man treats the woman, with gifts and stuff."
"Right. Well, we have recently opened a spa, not too far from here. It includes facials, couples' massages, foot massages, and treatments native to the area. I often hear from couples that they've never felt so invigorated and was well worth it! Thus, it's become very popular in the area, and it requires reservations months in advance." Mariko pulled two vouchers from her kimono. "Being a co-owner, I managed to snag these for you and your lovely bride to indulge in what our spa has to offer. I know you both will enjoy it."
The hanyou, puzzled yet intrigued, took the vouchers. "How…why…?"
Noting how adorable the guy looked, Mariko patted his shoulder. "Say no more, my dear boy. Rest assured all is taken care of and you will be treated like royalty. And they are expecting you. Plus, there are many benefits to couples who experience a spa day together…." With a wink, she bowed slightly before leaving him.
"Benefits?" The hanyou wondered. What was that woman talking about?
Keeping to his word, InuYasha kept quiet as he led Kagome away from the ryokan and towards the Sengoku Spa, according to directions provided by Suzuko on the way back to his and Kagome's room. The young woman notified the spa to let them know of their arrival and was only a fifteen-minute walk.
"Come on, can you give me a hint at least?" Kagome pleaded, looking every bit the Japanese housewife, dressed in the yukata, coat and a wagasa provided by the Ryokan. His grip on her hand told Kagome that he was eager to get where they were going, which she found so adorable.
"Not a chance." His tone was adamant. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted to bring Kagome to this "spa", to see her smile and spend more time together. Especially on White Day, which seemed like a holiday woman looked forward to. If he could give her a present, he'd do his damndest to succeed.
And when they finally reached the entrance welcoming them to Sengoku Spa, seeing the light in her eyes and the vouchers he had courtesy of Mariko-san, InuYasha reminded himself to thank the elder woman.
True to her word, they were welcomed warmly with a bow and ushered to their private room, where they asked what they'd like. Kagome opted for a facial and scalp massage. InuYasha, with much persuasion from his wife, reluctantly accepted a hand and foot massage. The hanyou noted the room was like a traditional Japanese room: an open concept, with wooden beams and a screen that opened to the sounds of the nearby river and the soft patter of rain dripping off the eaves. As a hanyou he used his hands and feet a lot, so he was quite surprised when the masseuse used enough pressure on his hands, feet and ankles that he began to feel the tension fade away. He looked over at his Kagome-covered up to the neck, enjoying a deep scalp massage.
Next was the couple massage. After some convincing, with the promise that they would be properly covered and not be massaged anywhere deemed private property, the hanyou laid stomach first on the bed, facing his wife. She faced him, and with a smile grabbed his hand. During the whole process, while feeling the knots slowly release from his back and shoulders, his eyes never left hers, both content to just be together.
Afterward, they both dressed and were treated to a foot scrub while enjoying some *Daifuku* and *Dorayaki*, while hydrating with water and the spa's oolong tea. They fed bits and pieces to each other, laughing and enjoying this special treat.
"I can't believe we got treated to a spa day!" Kagome was still over the moon. InuYasha now held the *wagasa* above them, as they walked through the soft rain back to the ryokan. She held his arm and absolutely gushed about the experience. "The head massage though….awe man, I haven't felt like this in so long!" She smiled at him. "And I know you enjoyed that foot massage more than you let on."
"Heh, it wasn't that bad," he admitted. His feet never felt better, between the massage and foot scrub. Even now walking barefoot, it was...pleasant. "That massage though…" He kissed her temple. "That look in your eyes…."
"I never thought of getting a couple's massage before. Now I know why people do. To share something so relaxing with the one you love…" Her voice grew quiet. "To share that with you… was something I'll never forget."
"Yeah… me too." He admitted in a whisper. Holding her close to him, they trudged through the near empty streets, relishing the peace and quiet the resort village exuded.
"I've seen a few lovely gift shops here. How about we pick up some gifts for the kids?"
"Not a bad idea. And something for your mom, as well. To thank her for sending her us here…" InuYasha was not prepared for his wife to reach up and kiss him with such passion.
"Oh, I love you!" Kagome kissed him again. "You have no idea how much!"
"I can venture a guess…" He mumbled against her lips. "I know how you can thank me…" He wiggled his eyebrows, which caused her to giggle like a schoolgirl.
"Later, my husband." She promised with a sultry tone.
With money provided by her mother, the couple was able to snag some precious gifts that their pups could take with them back to the feudal era. A beautiful *kokeshi* doll for Moroha- decorated in the season of her birth with accents of red and silver, painted with black hair. Two pairs of kid friendly *Kendama*, which Kagome advised extreme supervision. And for their newborn daughter, a small kawaii inu doll that Kagome suggested they could add a swatch of his fire rat and a part of her handkerchief she kept on her person, so their daughter would be comforted by their scents if they weren't around. The shop owner, learning of their newborn daughter, gifted them an *Inu-hariko*, a paper mâché charm for child-rearing. With much thanks, they bowed and left for their final destination: her mother's gift.
"She's gonna love this." Kagome admired the lovely wooden comb decorated with her mother's favorite flower: *Ume*. They now sat around the low table, admiring their bounty of gifts. "She probably won't expect we used her money to buy a gift."
The two were now relaxing, watching as the rain came down much harder. They left the shyoji open to let in the cool air and the surrounding nature bathed in the rain. Making a batch of Sakura tea- a specialty tea of the ryokan and asked for some more chips for her husband and plum flower (ume no hana) flavored *senbei* for herself.
"I was hoping for another bath before supper…." Kagome looked longingly out at the onsen.
"You still can, there's a shelter out there, right?" The hanyou, now lounging in his light blue yukata, munched on his new favorite snack. "And we leave tomorrow."
"Yeah, you're right." She popped some senbei in her mouth. "As much as I have loved this little getaway with just the two of us, I really miss the kids."
"As do I." His eyes gazed at the toys, anxious to see his pup's reaction to them. "I know your mother has them under her watchful eye." He eyed her hand, massaging her left breast. "Your milk coming in again?"
"Yeah, it hasn't been too bad though."
"Well, if you need relief, I'm available." Her husband offered, not too eagerly.
"Perhaps after I have a quick soak." She got up, stretched out her arms. "I won't be long, I promise." She walked over, kissed his lips and a quick ear rub before heading outside.
"Woman better not fall asleep." He mumbled under his breath.
"I promise I won't fall sleep, either." She called from the shower, startling him. 'Wonder if her hearing is getting better…'
Knowing she would be a while, he snagged a beer from the fridge and decided to call the shrine-having memorized the phone number, and how to use the contraption rigorously, to get an update.
Shortly before dinner was due to arrive, and after a relaxing soak Kagome and InuYasha broke out the futon for the sole purpose of relieving her of her milk. The rain was a soothing soundtrack as her husband nursed from her, loving how his mouth felt on her sensitive breasts. Tomorrow Tskukiko would once again nurse from her. But for now, her hanyou was enjoying having her breasts to himself. She combed his luscious silver locks, knowing that it was soothing for him as it was for her. While her core throbbed with need, for now this was just a time where they could just be.
Her eyes gazed upon a small alcove, where she noticed a small vase of sakurasou. "Now that's new. How lovely for them to do that."
Releasing her right breast, he looked to where she was looking. "Sakurasou?"
"It's a flower that blooms only in spring." The magenta color really stood out. "Like Sakura, but not. It's called that because it resembles it."
"What's so special about it?" InuYasha moved to her neglected mound and began suckling.
"According to what I remember reading, Sakurasou has a meaning of long-lasting love and desire." His tongue made a swipe on her nipple, causing her to gasp. There definitely was no shortage of desire in this relationship. "Easy, dog boy." Her fingers caressed one of his fluffy ears. "Save it for bedtime."
During their peaceful dinner InuYasha gave Kagome an update from the Higurashi shrine. Talking while enjoying another "healthy" serving of *Tsukemen* ramen, this time with *Kaukuni* and of course the hot spring egg, topped with sesame seeds and leafy greens. He noted she requested her own bowl, a *Shoyu* ramen with steamed chicken, a hot spring egg, with kimchi and veggies as well, along with their assortment of sides.
"I called your mom while you were soaking." He swallowed a mouth of noodles and broth. "The pups are fine. Moroha caught Kat trying to climb the Goshinboku and got her down with little fuss. Moroha said she thought it was great fun."
"That girl…." referring to Katana. "I swear she's becoming just like you." She swallowed some rice before taking a sip of her sake and beer. "WE need to keep a better eye on her once we get back."
"Yeah, no doubt." He gulped down his hot spring egg. "Kin has been less trouble, although Moroha mentioned he tried to jump onto the roof-"
"What?!" She nearly spit out her mouth of broth. "InuYasha-"
"I know, I know." Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he reached for some grilled fish to put on his rice. "The twins are making great use of their youkai strength. I think the time is coming for some training."
"In both areas." Kagome took a bigger sip of sake and beer. "Oh dear."
He thought it funny how that bit of news caused his wife to down more alcohol. "Anyway, our Tskukiko is doing well-finishing the bottle and naps in between. Your mom said she's been a little angel, although she's been very fussy at bedtime."
"Well, she's used to sleeping with us at night." She nursed her ramen, a much smaller portion than her husband's. It reminded her of the ramen recipe she had memorized so she could make it when they returned home. "Tomorrow night I'm sure we'll have all four cuddled with us."
"For sure."
As far as dinners go, the Sengoku Sakura outdid themselves. The presentation, the amount, the flavors all worked together to create a peaceful atmosphere for them. Tonight however, Mariko herself came in, followed by Suzuko, to present them with a delectable dessert.
"On behalf of the Sengoku Sakura, we offer you this delicious Japanese cheesecake, topped with strawberries and local honey, along with some local handmade mochi with a yuzu filling that pairs well with the cheesecake," She set the small cheesecake in the middle while Suzuko placed the mochi beside it. "As well as some fresh fruit, for the extra vitamin C." The fruit was placed by her other daughter. "My husband wishes to come and thank you."
A tall thin man, with graying hair and green eyes, dressed as an Itai-cho should, came in and bowed deeply. "It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you both. As the daughter and son-in-law of my beloved wife's best friend, making this delicious food brought such great joy!"
"He loves making ramen, so when we heard you had a great love for the dish, why, he rubbed his hands together and began preparation almost immediately!" Mariko looked at her husband with years of love and adoration. "Such a fiery spirit, my Ryuji has."
"All because of you, a woman with such love and passion for life and our family. A woman I'm proud to call my wife." He kissed her hand.
"Father, mother, I'm sure Kagome-san and InuYasha-san would like to enjoy the delicious desserts." Suzuko prompted her lovestruck parents.
"Oh, it's not trouble." Kagome insisted. It was wonderful to see an older couple still so much in love. "My husband and I also want to thank you so much for your hospitality and all the delicious food you've prepared for us."
"Well, there's still breakfast tomorrow. Be prepared for that." Ryuji said, and with a bow, left as quick as he came.
And the room cleared out soon after that. The couple, both miko and hanyou were indeed so grateful for this opportunity of a lifetime, and quickly dug into the wagashi feast.
March 15th- Last Day/Hakone Shrine/ Return
As with the previous morning, the couple wanted to soak in the beautiful onsen Hakone had to offer. Only this morning they could see the clear sky, the east brightening as the sun rose. And could make out the minute figure of Mt Fuji.
"I'm gonna miss this."
The mother of four, who was relaxing against her husband opened her eyes at his words. "Me too."
"At first, I didn't know what to expect. I was planning to see just a normal hot spring like we're used to but hell, your mother pulled this off and gone and left me speechless."
That's my mom for you." Her fingers lovingly caressed her husband's leg. "She could sense we'd be leaving soon, and she loves us so much she decided to gift us with this getaway so we could stay a bit longer." And looking back at him she teased, "And to leave you speechless, that's a miracle in and of itself." And quickly swam away.
"Woman….!" He swam after her. Her laughter echoed around their private paradise, loving the chase as much as he.
He quickly caught her and turned her around, facing him. "Did you even try?"
She shrugged. "Maybe, maybe not." Her hands caressed the sharp plains of his face, made clear by his hair pulled back. She easily saw the boy she first met, in the beautiful handsome face of the man before her. His eyes, once so careless, cold, and at times heartless, were now kind, gentle and loving. His lips, the ones that at first spewed so harshly to her and others lessened to where he only talked as such to enemies and people he despised. Now they spoke lovingly to her and their pups, and friendly to their family and friends.
"You know your lips have gotten softer since coming here?" She murmured, caressing said body part. Then her hands moved all over his sexy pectorals and broad shoulders. "So has everything else."
His hands moved to her ass, kneading it under water. "Why do you think I haven't been able to stop touching you?" He gently kissed the side of her neck, and slowly trailed down her chest, causing delicious shivers up and down her whole body. "This trip has done wonders for your skin, woman." He slapped her butt, causing a yelp. "But if you've noticed, one thing certainly hasn't gone soft."
And she felt it rising against her belly. "Does your sword want his sheath?" She grabbed it, lightly stroking it like his lips earlier.
"He wants more than that." He pulled them back to a boulder and sat her in his lap. "And it's past your fertile days." His claws on her back and his fangs grazing her nipples quickly caused them to harden, causing exquisite pleasure.
"So it is." And with that, they met in a ferocious kiss.
Soon after, they had their last breakfast, a bountiful yet healthy feast of a typical Japanese breakfast. Kagome ate as much as she could, enjoying the freshness of the vegetables in her salad, and the natto she added to her bowl of rice was superb! She got her husband to try some by feeding him a taste. It wasn't his favorite, but he didn't mind his wife feeding him. In turn he offered her some of the fish, seasoned to perfection that he would like to replicate back home. And to top it off, the ryokan's sakura-cha was something to be savored and the hanyou, while the aroma usually gave him a headache, it was surprisingly refreshing.
Afterward, the couple decided to check out the ryokan's biggest garden before checking out. The Sengoku Sakura's biggest garden, nestled by the ryokan and the surrounding woods, was beautiful to warrant guests and visitors alike. A pond that housed the abundant koi fish was the main attraction. The rainbow of colors swam and sparkled in the safety of the garden.
"Look at that one!" Kagome pointed to a particular koi. "That silver-white one that has the reddish spot on its head?"
"That's our pride and joy-our Tancho Koi we call Nihon." Masako came up to join them. "Nihon is over 40 years old, our longest living koi. My father rescued him years ago, when I was young, and brought him here to the ryokan. Little did he know that Nihon was a rare one. The red spot on his head does resemble our national flag. A beautiful creature but we do our best to protect and care for all our animals."
"As we all should." Kagome nodded, mesmerized.
The trio walked, Mariko telling them bits and pieces about the history of her family's establishment. InuYasha and Kagome didn't mind; they genuinely liked the elder woman. Reminded them of Masako with her warmth and charming personality. They did their best to make them feel like they've gone back in time, a long-but not forgotten past, in the Sengoku Sakura.
And for InuYasha and Kagome, it really, truly was.
The farewell was just heartwarming as the welcome, but bittersweet as well. Standing in the genkan, the couple bowed back at the family that embraced them in this wonderful place. Mariko-san and Suzuko-chan walked towards them, their smiles similar.
"It was such a pleasure meeting you both." Mariko spoke with such tenderness. "You give Masako our best, and to come back and see us again."
"To be your attendant was such an honor." The younger woman bowed again. "I pray that any future relationship I have will be as loving and cherished as yours Kagome-san, InuYasha-san."
"Arigatou, Suzuko-chan." Kagome hoped the girl did have such a future ahead of her.
"Arigatou Mariko-san. For everything." The hanyou wasn't much for sappy goodbyes, but this woman went above and beyond for them, and she opened her doors regardless of his appearance. So much like Mama Higurashi.
With just a head bow, and a loving smile she stepped back, allowed her husband to send them off with some treats, and bowed as the couple thanked him and stepped back into the real world.
They decided to travel to a local shrine, a rather famous shrine in the Hakone area which came highly recommend by Mariko-san and wasn't very far from the ryokan resort. The day was bright and sunny, so it was an amazing opportunity to view the shrine and Lake Ashinoko, as well as Mt. Fuji.
"So, what's special about this shrine?" InuYasha, with Kagome on his back, made it in record time, landing by the lake. The view of Mt Fuji was a formidable and incredible sight as they walked towards the entrance.
Looking down at her guidebook, she pointed at the red torii gate in the lake. "According to history, there are quite a few torii gates around this shrine. And that one is the lakeside torii, erected in 1952, which has made Hakone a famous spot, with Fuji-san in the background."
She continued to read from the book- her husband carefully guiding her, so she wouldn't trip, as they walked around Mount Hakone. InuYasha was at ease here, despite the numerous people visiting here because it was so reminiscent of back home. He could smell the ancient cedars and the clear crisp scent of the lake.
"It is said that the priest Mangan was credited with the founding of this shrine around 757, but was relocated around the mid 1600's. This priest was responsible for pacifying the nine-headed dragon that is said to dwell at the bottom of Lake Ashi, after throwing sutras to soothe it so it wouldn't torment people again."
The pair was now walking through the peaceful woods, along the path that led to the shrine just going underneath a red tori-the entrance if you will. Through the winding path, ancient stone pagodas on either side, lanterns that lit the path at night. The sun shined through the trees casting golden beams through the cedars and down on the path. Before embarking up towards the shrine Kagome, being raised in the Shinto religion, encouraged them both to, as the sign says, "cleanse their hearts and bodies, (as well as their hands) when praying to the kami," at the *Temizuya*. Not wanting to piss off the kami-not to mention his wife, he followed her lead. Then they made their way underneath another giant torii gate and up the steps to finally arrive at the shrine and underneath the last gate.
He couldn't describe it, but InuYasha felt something… otherworldly upon stepping onto the shrine grounds. Not unlike Kagome's family shrine, but he could tell this was a true place of peace.
"You alright, InuYasha?" Kagome noticed his lack of speech.
The sound of her voice woke him. "Huh? Oh, sorry Kagome. It's nothing, promise."
She didn't believe him but taking his hand they walked forward. As a hanyou he could probably sense the power of this place. She too-as a spiritually powerful miko, could sense there was something here that put your soul at ease.
Stopping in front of the offering box, she handed him a coin, a 5yen piece. And holding her own, she tossed it, bowed twice and clapped twice before going into prayer. Copying her movements, the hanyou too bowed his head and prayed, prayed for a long healthy life with his wife, current and future pups.
"What did you pray for?"
Stepping into his arms, and feeling the safe secure and embrace she spoke, "I prayed for your mother and father." Noticing his confusion, she continued, "even though I never met them, I wanted to thank them; thank them for such a wonderful and amazing son, for giving me the man I proudly and lovingly call my husband." She laid her head on his chest, hearing his heartbeat. "A man that I love so much it hurts, in the best way."
Despite being in a public place, he continued to hold his wife and sent another prayer to whatever kami was listening, eyes glistening with unshed tears, one that sent thanks for such a woman he could call his own, whose heart beat solely for hers, as hers did for him.
Needless to say, as soon as they landed on the Higurashi shrine grounds, shouts and yells came from the house. They didn't make it a few steps before three excited pups sped towards them.
Kneeling, Kagome caught her twins in a massive hug that caused her to fall. Laughter and tears were in abundance as the pups cuddled and embraced with such enthusiasm. Moroha leaped and her father caught her in a fierce hold. Falling beside his wife, all three pups now constantly switched between them.
"Mama! Papa!" Katana and InuKin repeated, so excited to have their parents back.
"We missed you!" Moroha hugged her dad before hugging her mom's neck, kissing her cheek.
"We missed you too!" Kagome cried, patted her daughter's head and kissed her back.
Holding his twins close, the hanyou kissed them both, speaking in the inu language. The pups yipped in response. Being so young, Kat and Kin responded as puppies would but has started using human words, like "Mama", "Papa," and even "Mo" for their big sister.
"Welcome home, darlings." Mama Higurashi walked out, cradling little Tsukiko. "Your children have been waiting since morning. I couldn't even put Katana and InuKin down for their naps they were so excited."
"I can see that." Kagome stood up, pulling up her eldest.
"They've been little terrors." Moroha dusted off her clothes. "Just pinging off the walls."
"Pinging?" InuYasha stood as well, his pups now sitting on his feet holding onto his hakama.
"Bouncing, sweetheart." Kagome clarified and went to take her newborn. "Hello, love." She kissed those chubby cheeks. "Mama's missed you."
"You were right about the bottle. She wasn't keen on it, but she was hungry enough to take it. She's been a fussy little girl at night since you left."
"I'm sure she'll be fine tonight now that mom and dad are back." Moroha said. Stretching her arms, she eyed the yellow backpack, abandoned on the ground.
"Don't worry pup, we didn't come back empty handed." *InuYasha knew his daughter well, could see her guessing what they brought home. And despite having two eager one year olds on his legs, he went over and took his hanyou pup to say hello. Her little eyes met his own, same exact shade of amber. Knowing this she, along with his older three pups were among him and his wife again, was a balm to his heart. No matter where they went, or saw, or did, they would always return to their family.
And looking at Kagome, who side-hugged her mother and held Moroha close, met his gaze and silently conveyed the same thing.
"Mama! Papa!" Kat and Kin continued to ride their father's feet, having an absolutely fun time as they walked into the house to share what they brought home.
"Alright you two." Their mother said affectionately, taking Kin into her arms. "Let Papa settle."
Sitting beside his wife, and motioning Moroha to bring the yellow backpack-having grabbed it outside, set in front of him. Kat crawled up his leg and sandwiched herself between her parents, Moroha settling on her dad's opposite side.
Mama Higurashi watched as her beloved son-in-law presented each child with their own gift- ones that they could take with them. Moroha was over the moon with her kokeshi, painted so beautifully and resembling her. Helping her husband, Kagome presented the twins with their own Kendama. The pups were intrigued and immediately started messing around with them, which Kagome put a stop to, telling them she would show them after they took a nap.
"We wanted to present this to you privately, Mom." The couple set a small, lacquered box in front of Masako. After-finally, settling the overhyped Kat and Kin enough to take a nap and Moroha heading to sit in the Goshinboku-"She's been doing that a lot more lately, and when she wasn't chasing her brother and sister or taking Tsukiko for a while, she was there."
"So much like her father." Kagome rubbed her husband's arm.
"She wanted to take Tsukiko up there, but I convinced her not to." Masako reassured the parents, seeing their startled looks.
Presently, the house was quiet save for the three adults and sleeping babe in his mother's arms. After nursing from her mother-which she was happy to be doing again, the hanyou girl closed her eyes and folded her ears down into slumber. Masako delicately opened the lid and set it aside, eyes widened as she saw what was inside.
"InuYasha pointed to it, and I immediately knew it was perfect. "Kagome watched her mother lift the wooden comb, painted in Ume blossoms. "I remembered that you adore apricot blossoms. You've given us such a wonderful gift; we just wanted you to have something that highly spoke of our gratitude."
Masako traced the blossoms, feeling the soft wooden texture under her fingers. This was done with such love and attention. "Such a beautiful gift." She looked up. "You didn't have to do this."
Kagome saw tears in her mother's eyes. "We wanted to." She softly began rocking Tsukiko out of instinct. "You've done so much for us-"
"And we wanted to give a little back." InuYasha added. "It's not much but…" He looked automatically at his sleeping daughter, not liking the sight and scent of woman's tears, regardless of if they were family. Hell, whenever Kagome or any of his children started to cry, he'd go into a panic. He felt his wife's hand rubbing his back, sending comfort. Clearing his throat, he looked up at the woman who has become a second mother to him. "…but…we still...wanted to say…arigatou…" and looking right as Masako, said, "Mom."
Said woman couldn't stop the flow of tears if she tried. She reached for a hand from the couple and was connected to them. "Seeing you both has been the ultimate gift- you and your babies. And InuYasha, you've always been like a second son to me, even before you and Kagome realized your feelings for each other. And hearing you call me mom…" She sniffed. "You have no idea how much that means to me."
Perhaps it was the gravity of the moment, or the fact they would be leaving soon, but the hanyou swore he felt a single tear trail down his cheek.
That night as they predicted, Moroha, Kat and Kin wanted to sleep with them. To fit all six of them Masako offered her bed to the family for the night.
"This feels nice. To be surrounded by our babies again." Kagome whispered, enough to where InuYasha could hear but low enough not to wake the pups.
He nodded, his eyes sweeping over his family. Between him and her, Katana and Tsukiko-the former lay a protective hand on her baby sister, as he often did with Kagome. His arm currently covered them so he could hold her hand. On Kagome's opposite side, InuKin cuddled against her side with Moroha behind him, her hand on her brother. "Seeing them sleep like this, so quietly and peacefully… it's like a dream."
A puppy ear barely flicked, feeling the breath of her parent's words. Kagome having her infant daughter against her, knew she was deep in sleep. But it wouldn't be long before she'd wake for a feeding. Squeezing his hand, she said, "But it isn't, my love. You're here, now… with us."
"And I'm damn grateful." His twin daughter's ears moved a bit and shifted against him before settling again. "Because without you…I'd still be lost."
Looking at him, his face supported by his hand, his eyes holding so much emotion it was hard to pinpoint. But after a year traveling together, reuniting after 3 years apart and being married going on 16 years, she could read him better than anyone.
"I'll always be by your side." And kissed the back of his hand, never looking away from those gorgeous amber eyes. "Always."
And like always, he deeply and truly believed her: body, heart and soul.
March 17th- Going Back Home
"Do you have everything you need?"
Checking and double checking her trusty yellow backpack, Kagome made sure everything was safe and secure. From all her children's toys and gifts to the recipes she acquired, to basic instruments and swatches of cloth she could use back home and everything else, she secured the latch and nodded. "Everything's here."
The hanyou settled the big heavy looking bag on his back, as if it weighed nothing. And went to make sure the cloth sling holding their infant daughter to her mother was tight and secure. He could see his daughter's face and the little stuffed toy from the ryokan village beside her. "I think we got everything."
The family of six stood in front of the well house, exchanging goodbyes with everyone, including Sota, Moe and little Mei. The morning was clear, the sun just breaching the treetops. The day was proving to be a beautiful one, which was the opposite of the situation occurring.
Hugs and kisses aplenty were exchanged among the family. The pups saying goodbye to Mei, Moroha promising to send her love to Towa for the little girl. Great-gramps gave each pup a big hug and smooch, although he was stopped by Kagome trying to give each pup a sutra-for protection, he insisted.
"Really gramps. Stop trying to give useless sutras to my pups" Kagome chastised, intercepting one for Kat. Tucking it away, she pulled him in for a hug.
"Really girl, I only mean well for your children."
"I know you do gramps." Kagome kissed her gramps cheek.
"Give it up, old man. They don't work." The hanyou patted the guy's shoulder.
Sputtering indignantly, gramps tried once again to put one on InuYasha, who easily dodged it.
"Gramps! Please!" Now it was just getting comical. Moroha started chuckling, loving how her dad teased the elder.
Mama Higurashi was kneeling, embracing and kissing her twin grandchildren. They in turn nuzzled and hugged their grandmother, who wished them love and the best life. Getting up, she pulled Moroha to her bosom.
"Take care of yourself, darling." The woman whispered. "And look after your parents for me. And those adorable little children."
"Will do, grandma." Moroha let a tear escape. "You can count on me." She kissed her Obaa's cheek before pulling away. "Always." She took her sister and brother and pulled them away towards their parents.
In her mother's arms, little Mei was crying. "Why you have to go?" Her bottom lip was trembling.
"They have to go home, baby." Moe rocked her daughter. "It's like us being far away and having to go back home after a long time."
Souta went and hugged his big sister, careful of his infant niece. "Goodbye Kagome." He said, kissing her head. "Take care of yourself, alright?"
"Always, Souta." Kagome hugged back, fiercely.
Pulling back, Souta immediately pulled his big brother in. "It was good seeing you, brother. Stay safe, you here?"
InuYasha immediately reciprocated. "You as well, Souta."
And then, the couple faced Masako. The older woman, who was now showing her age let the tears flow. Kagome started crying too, and walked into her mother's arms, always careful of her infant daughter.
"My darling daughter. No matter what age you are, or how many children you have, or where you live, you'll always be my little girl." Masako murmured, rocking them both. "I love you so much, never forget that." She could feel her daughter shaking, how her hands tightened on her back. Inhaling the floral scent of her child's hair and hearing her heartbreaking whimpers, Masako rubbed her daughter's back; a comfort she often did when her children were upset. "Don't cry, sweetheart." Her own voice caught. "I hate to see you leave again, but I know you're happier back in the past." Looking at the reason for that happiness behind Kagome, she smiled and kissed her forehead. "I'll miss you baby. Oh, so much."
"And I will miss you, mom." Kagome answered, her voice choked with tears. She didn't want to let go of her mom, because she knew this would potentially be the last time she'd be able to. She felt a warm kiss on her forehead, and she reciprocated on her mother's tear-stained cheek.
InuYasha, who stayed back allowing the women a private moment, was summoned by Masako to join them. He embraced both his wife and mother-in-law, allowing a moment of weakness and letting his own tears fall.
"Mom…" He choked out. He leaned his head forward and met both women's. "I…"
"I know, my son." Masako answers. She could feel the wave of love from him. "I love you too. And I'll miss you too-Both of you, deeply." Her hands went to cradle both the couple's cheeks. "Be happy, that's all I ask."
The three stood there for a while, crying and just letting the emotion flow around them. Slowly and painfully pulling apart, Masako looked down at little Tsukiko, who was now awake and sensing the emotion around her, kissed her granddaughter and silently wished she'll grow up healthy and strong.
Finally, the moment has come. InuYasha gathered up his twins-who immediately clung to him, Moroha stepped back and grabbed her mother's hand and grabbed her father's arm, and Kagome cradling her hanyou babe and firmly held Moroha's hand. The feudal family faced their modern-day family, all with solemn faces.
Nodding in understanding, Mama Higurashi, for the second time, allowed her daughter to go and live her destiny.
Nodding back, the Inu clan all looked to each other for confirmation. The hanyou and miko with all four of their pups turned around and with purpose, walked into the well house and down the steps, back to the place where they belong.
And with nothing but a magical blue flash, all was again quiet in the Higurashi courtyard.
Well, what do you think? Like I said, a lot of heart, soul, thought and research went into this. Words in *italics* I've had to look up and make sure they were correct.
