The smell of the moist cell hit Clawthorne's nose and her dulled senses slowly started to return. The pain in her wrists, which held the weight of her entire body, the cuts and bruises, the rotting gushes and thorn clothes. With no warning, the doors flew open and the light attacked her sensitive eyes, blinding her temporarily.
"Oh, fuck…" Luz groaned, feeling her parched throat, hurting like never before.
"Good to see you awake, human…" A familiar voice greeted her and Clawthorne could not believe her eyes when she finally focused her sight.
"That's not real!" Luz thought with panic.
She watched her girlfriend standing before her tortured body. Her lavender hair was neatly braided to the side and her gaze was cold, staring blankly at the cuts littered across the human body.
Luz eyed the witch before her and could have sworn her heart skipped a beat when she noticed her girlfriend's favorite, pink dress stained with blood.
"What are you doing here?" Clawthorne asked with a shaking voice.
"Wouldn't you want to know…" Odalia made her presence known and approached the human, smiling viciously. She then took hold of her daughterʼs chin, squeezing it painfully, resulting in a strained whimper, "She is after all a Blight Industriesʼ Heiress," She explained and let go of Amity, discarding her face with disgust.
She snapped her fingers and in an instant the younger Blight was dressed in a smart, spotless suit. The witch rolled up the sleeves of the charcoal black shirt which was partially obscured by a purple vest, matching the suit pants perfectly.
"Oh, Baby, no…" Luz whispered and was surprised with a powerful punch to her face that broke her lip. When she managed to bring her head up she noticed a splatter of her blood on Amity's pale face.
"Don't you dare call her that, you filthy animal…" Odalia growled and Luz smiled at her.
"Weʼve been through this, Odalia," Luz hissed, "There's nothing you can do or say that will hurt me," She added and smiled, showing off bloodied teeth.
"Oh, thatʼs hilarious," Odalia chuckled maniacally, "Who said I would be the one doing anything to you?" She asked, lifting her hand, presenting an all too familiar choker with a pink orb.
"No! No, no, no, donʼt! You can't!" Luz panicked, tugging the chains, watching the older witch stepping behind her daughter paralyzed with fear, "Amity!" The golden eyes met the hazel-brown ones and a single tear ran down the pale cheek, mixing with the droplets of the human blood.
"Oh, but I can," Odalia said with a smile and painfully tugged the lavender braid to the side and forced the choker back on. Amity let out a scream when she felt her neck being strangled and her eyes glowed with a magenta glow that did not resemble anything like her normal pink glow, "Now, Mittens…" Odalia placed a sharp, wavy knife in her daughterʼs hand, "Be a good Heiress, and show that pest where animals like that Titan-awful subspecies belong," She added and placed her hand on her daughterʼs wrist.
"No… Don't…" Amity whispered with a shaking voice while her mother urged her closer to Luz's body, "Please…" Her voice shook when the blade made contact with the tan body and she could not fight her mother's push.
"Amity," Luz tried to keep her voice calm. She was scared about the whole situation and worried about the love of her life, "Amity, Baby, look at me," She continued, trying to get through to her girlfriend.
"Why the wait, Mittens?" Odalia asked sweetly, "We donʼt have all eternity…"
"We do!" Luz interrupted, trying to reach Amity once again. The witch's hand shook a bit but Odalia forced her and pushed her harder toward the already hurt body, cutting the tan skin, "Amity, listen to me… Mmm, fuck!" Luz tried again, fighting the pain away, forcing it into the back of her mind, "Youʼre stronger than that…" Another cut made her stop.
"L-Luz…" Amity gasped and the magenta light faded for a mere moment. They shared a quick look and the human smiled through the pain.
"Thereʼs my brave, fearless, awesome girlfriend," Luz cracked a weak smile when she noticed the lavender-haired witch regained the affectionate look she always had when she looked at her.
"That wonʼt do!" Odalia interrupted and grabbed Amity's hand painfully, hurting her wrist in the process, "Behave like a daughter I spent years raising properly and do what is required of the Heiress that you are," She added and twisted her daughterʼs wrist to make another cut.
"F-fuck…" Luz growled, her breathing increased while she experienced one cut after another.
"This is not happening, this is not real…" Clawthorne tried to remind herself when she started to lose her sense of reality. A sad, pathetic whimper escaped her lips and her eyes fluttered.
"Thatʼs it, Mittens. You make Momma proud," Odalia praised, leaning closer to her daughterʼs ear, forcing her hand to push deeper into the human body.
"No!" Amity suddenly exclaimed, stopping the blade, and finding strength to fight back.
"Oh, thank Titan…" Luz gasped when she felt the blade leave her chest, coughing out blood.
"What are you doing, Mittens? Donʼt you want to make me proud?" Odalia asked, her sweet voice marked with irritation.
Those words brought a sudden change. Luz had a hard time focusing her sight but she was sure her girlfriend was fighting whatever spell was cast upon her. Her gold eyes were blinking rapidly, the magenta glow appeared and disappeared, and her ears twitched in distress while her arm fought against Odalia's hold.
"P-proud?" Amity managed to choke out and look into her motherʼs cold, blue eyes. Taken by surprise, Odalia's hold was broken and her daughter pulled her hand away, "You were never proud of me!" The golden eyes roamed the room and her girlfriend's body, finally realizing she was cutting her flesh, causing her pain, "No! You were using and manipulating me my whole life! Never again!" She grabbed a choker on her neck and ripped it off with one swift move before she tore down the purple vest and untangled the braid.
"Thatʼs it, fight it…" Luz thought, watching Amity regaining control.
"You separated me from my father!" The younger witch hollered at her mother, "You estranged me with my friends! You broke me! Abused me! You tried to kill my girlfriend and then you tried to kill me!" Amity's body was letting out waves of powerful magical aura in frustration, making Luzʼs body dangle in chains.
The aura danced around the lavender-haired witch lifting her mane and giving her an insidious look. The fuchsia glow burned down the remains of the suit, bringing back the pink dress and black leggings hidden in the pair of heavy boots.
"You always look down on me because I'm Wild, wanting only to use me for my power…" The golden eyes covered in a bright glow, looked at the older witch with fury.
"You think youʼre better than me?" Odalia taunted with a smirk.
"I KNOW I am better than you!" Amity roared furiously, letting out another powerful pulse of her magic.
"Oh? Then why do you keep hurting your pet?" The older Blight asked viciously and when Amity blinked she realized she was once again standing in front of Luz's body, cutting her with the blade Odalia placed in her hand.
"No!" The lavender-haired witch could not understand how that was possible, "No, no, no, this is not happening," She panicked, realizing this whole situation was not possible to be real.
"Mmm, fuck…" Luz growled when she felt another deep cut on her chest, "Amity, look at me," She hoped to help her girlfriend calm down but the pain was too overwhelming. The pale witch standing in front of her was breathing heavily, gasping for air, and panicking, "Baby, calm down," She could not finish her thought when she felt another cut.
"Don't do that, please," Amity pleaded when her mother guided her hand once again.
"Thatʼs it, Amity, keep going," Odalia whispered with a wide smile on her face.
"Youʼre sick!" Amity tried to break free again, "Who forces their child into this kind of behavior? Who praises them for abuse and aggression? Who forbids them to love and care?"
"Oh, but I didn't force you into anything…"
"You literally put a mind-controlling spell on her for fuckʼs sake!" Luz interrupted, feeling too hurt and too weak to keep listening to Odalia's voice.
"L-Luz," Amity whispered, relieved her girlfriend was still conscious.
"Nobody asked you," Odalia hissed, pushing her daughter aside like a ragdoll, and grabbed a long metal rod that made Luz tremble in fear. Painful memories flashed before her eyes, paralyzing her.
"No, no, please…" The human quivered and felt the rod smashing her right leg, sending the sensation of the broken bone through her body over again.
"You should have never meddled," Odalia roared and took another swing, breaking Luz's ribs, "These were Blight family internal affairs!" Another swing to her arms. Another to her face.
"Enough!" Amity finally regained control over her body and stepped in between her girlfriend and her mother, taking the beating herself, shielding the woman she loved, "Luz, please!" She growled when she felt the pain of her bones cracking, "Iʼm sorry, I couldnʼt save you sooner!"
"N-not… Your… Fault…" Luz managed and her eyes rolled up.
"Stop!" Amity exclaimed and faced her mother, making sure Luz would not be hurt anymore, "You beat me with your staff when I was just a child, you controlled me since I was a teen, you abused me, manipulated me, broke me, and then discarded me! I will never forgive you and despite how much you want me to believe you, I am nothing like you. I am not my father too, if thatʼs what you always hated about him and about me. I am my own person!" Amity took a step closer toward her mother, retrieved the metal rod, and tossed it aside, "Which part of 'youʼre dead to me' you do not understand?" She asked and turned back to return to Luz.
"A-Amity…" Luz gasped, hardly focusing on her surroundings. Everything hurt her just like it did the first time around.
"Iʼm here, Luz," The witch cooed, freeing the human's hands from the shackles, and slowly helping her down, "Iʼm so sorry," She sobbed quietly while she began rocking with the hurt body in her delicate hold, "It's going to be alright, Iʼm going to heal you," She added and started casting a blue, Healing Spell circle when she felt a strong hold on her arm.
"You will do no such thing," Odalia growled, appearing from behind the lavender-haired witch. What she did not understand was the smile that appeared on the human's face.
"Get, the fuck, away from her," Luz whispered in a pained voice.
Her eyes flashed with a golden glow, and Odalia's body was snatched into the darkness of the room, letting go of the young witch. Amity grabbed her girlfriend's head before it lolled to the side, forcing her to look at her.
"Luz!" The witch exclaimed, her voice filled with worry, "Please, you have to make it," She pleaded, voice broken with sobs.
"Let me go!" Odalia's distressed voice echoed and Luz smiled at her girlfriend.
"You're not the only one to have inner Demons," Luz smiled, and suddenly Amity felt a powerful presence by her side.
A delicate trill cooed and the witch noticed an Owl Demon watching her with sad, pitch-black eyes. She did not notice when Odalia's voice disappeared. The Demon spread its wing and covered the witch, holding the human body close, providing them both with warmth and support in a feathery embrace.
"I'm so sorry…" Amity let out a sob, guilt washing over her, "You always get hurt because of me," Heavy tears rolled down her pale cheeks.
"It's not true," The Demon's melodic trill agreed with the human, pulling the witch into a tighter embrace.
"It's always my fault…" Amity's sobs turned into hard, distraught cries.
"Hoot…"
"Amity…" Luz slurred her girlfriend's name, her eyes rolled up and as she was slowly losing consciousness the room became darker and darker until there was no light left, "You have to wake up…"
"Always my fault…" Amity mumbled in her sleep, her ears twitching nervously while her face winced in distress, and a few drops of sweat trailed her forehead, "M-my… F-fault…" Her fingers tried to find something to hold onto with no success.
"Amity…" Luz frowned and felt the naked witch shaking in her embrace, "Please," She gulped heavily when she slowly started to come to, "Wake up!" She barely exclaimed and squeezed the witch, arching her back with a whimper when she felt the pain from her dream.
"L-Luz?" Amity asked sleepily when she was thrown off from the safety of her girlfriend's hug.
She wiped the sleep away from her eyes and focused her sight. The dawn illuminated their bedroom, helping her distinguish the human body thrashing in bed. With a few more seconds of confusion, the memories of her dream flashed in front of her eyes. She paled down, her ears slanted, and she crawled back toward her girlfriend.
"Luz!" She exclaimed, shaking her frame delicately.
Amity was relieved to realize her girlfriend was not hurt by whatever happened in the dream. Her body was just arching and thrashing in a pained expression but other than that she seemed fine. Until she snapped her eyes open.
"AAAAA!" Luz yelled all of a sudden, her eyes glowed with bright gold light, and her shoulder popped loudly out of its socket. The yell turned into a screech and the human delicately pushed the witch away to turn onto all fours.
"L-Luz?" Amity whispered in panic, not understanding what was happening. The human curled into a fetal position and was shaken with sobs, gasping for air in distress, "It's okay, let me help…" The witch tried to calm her down but then she touched the naked, scarred back another screech deafened Amity, making her cover her ears.
"A-Am…" The human growled out and fell off the bed with a loud thud, trying to keep her safe distance. The witch quickly followed, leaning over the edge of the mattress.
She covered her lips in shock when she noticed Luz's body struggling on the floor. The human's bones snapped, and elongated, her fang grew out, and her pitch-black eyes glowed with Owl Demon's magic while feathers began pricking from underneath the tan skin, one by one in random places.
"Shit! Luz, hold on!" Amity exclaimed and immediately fetched the elixir from her fluffy, lavender mane.
"Keep… Away!" Luz growled with the rest of her will and despite trying to push the witch away she felt an elixir being forced into her snarling lips.
"Drink, Luz," Amity ordered and held the human's head to assist the motion, "That's it, I'm not leaving you," She added and fetched a second elixir when she noticed that Luz's transformation had barely slowed down. She opened the cork with her teeth and helped the human with the second dose, "Slowly, Luz," She cooed, trying to regain calmness in her voice but in all honesty she was extremely scared.
"H-hurts…" Luz gasped when she was done with the contents of the vial. Tears rolled down her cheeks and her irises turned gold before her eyes slowly turned back normal, hazel-brown.
Amity watched the excruciatingly slow retransformation with awe and terror. The feathers retracted, fangs shortened, and bones regained their normal size, relieving the pressure on the stretched, scarred skin. The bright, golden magical aura erupted from the hurt body to subside a moment later.
The witch slowly began to brush the brunette's hair soothingly, trying to help her regain her breath. She wiped the sweat away from the human's forehead and was relieved to see that her girlfriend finally began breathing through her nose.
"Amity…" Luz whispered with a strained voice, her eyes fluttered open.
"She's so worried…" The human thought when she noticed the witch's expression.
Amity had her ears slanted in fear, her golden eyes roaming Luz's hurt body, her scarred chest expanding irregularly in shallow breaths. The guilt entered the human's heart when she felt responsible for worrying her girlfriend.
"It's alright, Luz, I'm here," The witch said calmly with the faintest smile, "Let me help you to bed and check you out, okay?" She asked and without waiting for the response, she scooped Luz off the floor and brought her back to the soft mattress.
"I'm sorry…"
"Shh, you didn't do anything wrong," Amity said softly and covered Luz's breasts and crotch with her pajamas, "Try to stay calm, I need to make sure you're not hurt," She added and after putting on her garments, she sat next to her girlfriend and cast a rather large blue spell circle to inspect the human's body.
"T-they…" Luz tried to speak but the sensations brought by the spell were not helping her form coherent thoughts, "They got angry…" She choked out and Amity arched her brow in confusion, "I tried…" She gasped, "I tried to calm them…" She could not finish when a surge of pain erupted from her arm.
"Luz," Amity spoke up and all the pain was gone, only a dull, pulsating sensation remained in her shoulder. The human opened her eyes and glanced at the worried expression in the golden orbs, "I take it we have shared a dream…" She spoke after a pause and was shocked to see the human smile.
"My biggest trauma and your greatest fear. Guess what connects them?" Clawthorne joked but despite her cheerful expression, tears rolled down her cheeks.
"I'm sure you feel sore but for the most part the Owl's magic healed you," Amity said in a Healer-like manner, "I only need to fix your shoulder so I need you to keep talking," She added and Luz looked back at her girlfriend who got up and helped her into her pajamas.
"You need me distracted," Luz guessed, wincing when she helped the witch to clothe her.
"I'm sorry…"
"Stop being sorry," Clawthorne interrupted with a faint smile, "You always help me, care for me and then you're still sorry."
"I always endanger you…"
"Amity!" Luz exclaimed, "You never endangered me. If the roles were reversed would you say I endangered you?" She watched the witch open her mouth and close it again. It repeated a few more times before Luz chuckled at Blight's reaction, "Exactly, so no more 'sorry' business with me, okay?" She added and tried to relax back on the pillow.
"Okay," The witch agreed and drew a spell circle which she hesitantly brought to the human's left shoulder, "So what made them so angry?" She asked, hoping to help distract Luz and keep her awake.
"Because of what she did to you…" Luz paused when the spell came in contact with her body, making her groan.
The warmth of the spell spread inside her joint while the blue aura sparkled in the witch's eyes. Amity could have seen the broken parts of the joint and sent in her energy to recreate the tissue.
"They are still angry…" A pained whimper escaped the full lips, "She abused you and robbed you of love and self-worth… Ah! Fuck!" The joint was suddenly turned in a strange direction, taking the human by surprise.
"Prepare to set it."
"No, no, no, no, wait!" A loud snap echoed through the bedroom and Luz's growl was accompanied by a loud screech in the weirdest canon. She shut her eyes and rolled to a side, taking hold of her arm, and crying out in pain, "Fuck!" She gasped when the pain slowly began to subside.
"I'm so…"
"Don't!" Luz growled, her eyes opened slightly and looked at the witch, "Don't you dare say you're sorry for fixing me," She added with a smirk, showing off her white-gold fang. Her breathing finally calmed down, she sat up in bed and lifted her arm to see if it worked as it was supposed to.
"Everything okay?" Amity asked with worry, watching her girlfriend's pained expression.
"To be perfectly honest, with everything my body had been through, I am still shocked I have any mobility left," Luz said with a smile that quickly faded, "I have a theory that Beasty is keeping me alive to some extent," She added, and the witch scooted in closer to her girlfriend.
"Can I hold you?" Amity asked, unsure of what she could or could not do.
She was relieved when Luz nodded. The witch sneaked from behind her girlfriend to hold her close, wrapping both arms and legs around the human. Clawthorne turned to the side and let herself feel vulnerable, snuggling in close to the witch. They closed their eyes and sighed in contentment.
"Can I ask you something about the dream?" Luz broke the silence, never leaving the safety of the embrace. She heard Amity's heart increase its pace but the witch did not show her discomfort.
"Of course, what is it?" The human bit her lower lip in hesitation.
"Hoot," She heard an encouragement in her head.
"Did…" Luz paused to take a deep breath, "Did she ever force your hand to hurt someone… Like literally…" She did not know how to form that question properly but she immediately realized the witch's breathing had become shallow. Luz sat up and pulled away to study her girlfriend's expression.
Pupils in Amity's golden eyes shrank while her gaze traveled somewhere else, roaming the room as if she was not entirely sure whether her memories were real or not. The pointy ears twitched anxiously while the witch's brows tied in confusion. Did Odalia force her hand or was it just a dream, a manifestation of her deepest fears?
"I…" Amity gasped, her eyes still frantically jumping from one side of the room to another, "I'm not sure," She finally choked out. She closed her eyes for a second and she could have sworn she had seen a flash of a memory that could not be real.
"That's it, Mittens, nice and slow," Odalia cooed her daughter when she helped guide a small hand forward. A knife in the tiny palm felt heavy and uncomfortable.
"Please, don't…" Amity heard a whimper of a juvenile boyish voice. The cut on the dark-skinned chest silenced his groveling.
"I don't want to…" The pale witchlet tried to retrieve her hand but her mother held her painfully tightly.
"Good children don't squabble, dear," Odalia whispered into her ear and pushed her daughter's hand further in.
"Amity?" Luz asked with a worry-filled tone, cupping her girlfriend's face when she sat up in front of the pale woman.
"What the hell's wrong?!" The human panicked, watching her girlfriend completely dissociate and not responsive.
The witch was breathing heavily, her gasps were short and rasp while her eyes could not focus on anything. The golden orbs were roaming the room frantically, not seeing a thing in front of her. She then squeezed her eyes shut and let out a pained whimper.
"Pathetic," Odalia's voice echoed in the witch's head and she snapped her eyes open.
"L-Luz?" She was shocked to see the human in front of her.
"I'm here, breathe with me, Amity, you're safe…" Luz tried to grant some comfort but it was not so simple. Whatever happened it must have been too painful for the witch.
Amity tugged her hair painfully and threw her head back, smashing it at the bedroom wall. The human reacted quickly, placing her hand on the lavender head, trying to pillow the blow. With no pain to regulate her emotions, the witch started crying, tears rolling down her cheeks, and not before long she was wailing hard.
"Amity…" Luz hesitated but refused to not act in any way, "Do you… Can I hold you?" She asked and without any warning, she was hit with the trembling body when Amity threw herself into her girlfriend's arms, "You're safe now, Amity," Clawthorne tried to give the witch some reassurance. She took a tight hold of the witch with one hand, while the other applied delicate, soothing caresses on the head and sob-shaken back.
"Hoot?" Echoed in the human's head.
"How should I know? Maybe she remembered something?" She replied in her head. Seconds passed and her eyes widened in realization, "Hey! I understood you!"
"She…" Amity tried to explain, interrupting Luz's internal dialogue, "She…" She tried again with a breaking voice.
"It's okay, take your time," Luz started to rock them in the hope of helping soothe the witch's wrecked nerves.
"Hoot…"
"No need to apologize, we couldn't communicate…" The human thought, afraid of what would have happened if Amity had not happened to have elixirs stashed within her hair.
"L-Luz…" Amity whispered, shaking with delicate sobs, clearly calmer than a few moments ago, "What did she do to me?" Luz only responded with a tighter hug, not knowing what else to do, "Did she… Did she wipe my mind?" She added and hid her face deeper into the safety of her girlfriend's embrace.
"I donʼt know, Amity," Luz whispered into the lavender hair and left a delicate kiss at the top of the witch's crown, "But I promise, Iʼll do everything in my power to keep you safe. We will figure it out, I promise," She added and continued keeping the witch close.
"Iʼm scared, Luz," Amity whispered, her words muffled by the hug, "Are my dreams just dreams or are they memories? What else donʼt I remember? What else did she force me to do?" The vomit of questions left her trembling lips and she sat back up, feeling restless, "If so then why did she wipe my mind? Did she do the same thing to Edric? Is that why he killed himself? Why…"
"Amity," Luz interrupted her spiral, "Take a deep breath," She gestured to breathe in, hold, and then breathe out, "Very good," She praised and smiled at the witch, "I can only imagine what you are going through now but letʼs take a step back, okay?" She asked and grabbed the witchʼs hands, offering a reassuring squeeze.
"Okay," Amity agreed, sighed heavily, and closed her eyes, "I think…" She opened her eyes and averted the hazel-brown gaze, "I think I need to think this over," She explained and the human smiled warmly.
"Thatʼs perfectly fine," She reassured her girlfriend, "Just promise to tell me if anythingʼs wrong, okay?"
"I promise."
"Good," Luz offered a delicate forehead kiss and caressed the witch's cheek, making her ears perk up, "Do you want to catch some more sleep or…"
"Oh, hell no," Amity pulled away, ears slating immediately, "I'll prepare some Brew if you want," She added and Luz understood her reluctance to go back to sleep.
"Sure," Luz smiled reassuringly, "I'll get started on the breakfast then," She added and followed her girlfriend out of the room to start their day.
They were glad they started the day early. It gave them some time to think through everything that happened at night. Right after breakfast, Amity disappeared into the garage and Luz steered clear when she heard angry screams and sounds of torn metal. The witch definitely needed to blow off some steam.
The human on the other hand disappeared into the basement where she found an old photobook. She went through the pictures of Danielle, Camila with Manny, and their other friends in their late twenties. Luz was curious about their past but she also felt a need to find proof that she could trust López as she claimed she could.
Despite their nerve-wracking morning, they were happy to join Danielle for lunch. Since they knew they would be alone, they decided against Concealment Stones and dressed comfortably in plain jeans. While Amity borrowed Luz's grey hoody in case she needed to hide her ears, Clawthorne stubbornly stuck with her favorite flannel.
"How do you feel?" Luz thought that it would be good to check in before going in.
Amity turned off her motorcycle's engine, parked it securely, and took off her helmet. Her ears twitched anxiously while she was clearly thinking about her answer. She turned the front wheel to the left before answering.
"Better," The witch finally replied and hopped off the motorcycle. She put on the hood, obscuring her ears, and looked around the neighborhood, "I'm…" She felt Luz's stern gaze, forbidding her to say she was sorry, "Grateful you were there with me. Despite being scared and anxious about the past, I'm very happy to have you help me through it," She added and the human smiled at that.
"Well," Luz got up and approached her girlfriend, "I'm always happy to be there for you. I just wish that vacation would be more fun for you," She added and pecked the pale cheek, making Amity scoff.
"Oh, it IS very fun for me," The witch smiled widely, showing off the fangs Luz adored so much, "I kicked your bully's ass," She extended her index finger, "I restored this baby," She dramatically gestured to the Scrambler, "I totally wrecked Bergstein's car which strangely connects to the first point on this list," She added and leaned over toward her girlfriend's ear, "And don't get me even started on last night," She finished with a mischievous smirk and a low purr, reveling in her girlfriend's flustered expression.
"Titan," Luz squeaked, feeling much hotter than she should, making Amity giggle with the energy she missed.
"So you see, a few bad moments just help me appreciate the good ones even better," The witch added and her smirk softened, she looked at her girlfriend with adoration and deep affection, "So what do you say we'll continue having a good time and see what Danielle prepared to eat?" She proposed and Luz nodded in acceptance while she showed off her white-gold fang in a wide smile.
Suddenly the door to Danielle's house burst open and loud voices made it to their ears and made them freeze mid-step. They noticed a brunette man of average height with blue eyes hiding behind square glasses exiting the house, dragging a strange contraption behind.
"Don't forget to take your shit! I'm gonna have guests coming over any…" Danielle made it to the front door. She threatened the man with a sauce-covered wooden spoon, while some of the sauce ended up splashing on her yellow apron, "Moment," She froze when she noticed both women in her driveway.
"Told you," Amity whispered, noticing Luz's dumbfounded expression, "Eda-vibe," She explained and her girlfriend snorted.
"Yeah, yeah, don't worry about that. With everything at the Bonfire, I'm most likely to be back tomorrow," He added while he packed a strange, heavy object into his big, black van, "You two should come," He addressed the women in front of him, eyeing them curiously, "If you want to know Gravesfield's history…"
"Just go!" Danielle urged him and gestured for Luz and Amity to come over, "Sorry about him."
"Your housemate?" Luz asked with a smirk.
"Yeah… Luckily just temporarily," Danielle let them in and closed the door, "Come on in, I still need to finish up with the main course," She added and Luz guided Amity toward the kitchen.
The witch walked in and turned around taking in the view of the first fully human home. A home where there would be no Demon food in the fridge, a home where there would be no potion cabinet and a home where walls were not enforced against magic.
It was simple but cozy, decorated with many photos. The kitchen was combined with the dining room but the living room was separated. While many windows illuminated the interior Amity was surprised to realize there were no ceiling lights installed.
"Wow," The witch whispered while she finally slipped off her hood, reminding the host about her origins.
"You like it?" Danielle asked and the pointy ears twitched in surprise. Amity faced the older woman and was welcomed with a warm expression while Danielle kept stirring something in the pot.
"I love it!" Blight finally replied, flashing the woman with a fanged smile.
The older human's gaze traveled to her teeth and the witch's expression faded. Amity was ready to cover her lips and apologize for being who she was when Danielle's voice broke her train of thought.
"¡Oyé!, Luz! You didn't show her any other homes?! What kind of tour guide are you?" She joked and threw a kitchen rag at the brunette jokingly, "I'm sure Amity was a better tour guide when I don't know, she showed you her home," She added and realized she was the only one chuckling.
"Um…" Luz looked away sheepishly and Amity approached them, taking a seat next to her girlfriend.
"I had a difficult living situation," The witch explained and grabbed Luz's hand in support.
"Oh, I'm sorry, that was inappropriate. I didn't know you too were in the system," Danielle felt she should not joke like that not knowing the situation.
"The system?" The witch was unfamiliar with the term.
"Oh, no, Amity was not an orphan," Luz explained and Amity understood what Danielle had in mind.
"Oh, I wish…" Blight whispered unknowingly and suddenly felt two sets of eyes on her - Luz's amused one and Danielle's shocked one, "I mean it's not something we should start a meal with but my mother was not a good person…" She added, her hand unknowingly traveling up to her throat and she massaged the place where the choker left the wide scar, "So Luz's visits at my place were usually cut very short," She finished and glanced at her girlfriend in search of approval.
"You did great," Luz said with a warm smile which made the witch blush slightly under her gaze.
"Oh, I get it," Danielle had a light-bulb realization.
"So that's who that slimy golem was when she was feverish," The woman thought and immediately understood that was a very delicate matter.
"Again, sorry, for being inappropriate…"
"You had no way of knowing," Amity interrupted the host and smiled warmly.
They shared a look and Danielle smiled when she noticed that the witch tried her hardest to keep eye contact but it seemed to be almost painful for her and as a result, the golden eyes were roaming from the green eyes to other parts of the human face.
"I know that's a bit forward but I had my fair share of mother-related issues so if you'd ever want to talk, you know where to find me," Danielle said with a smile and Luz squeezed the pale hand in approval and happiness, "Also, you really don't have to look me in the eye if that's still uncomfortable to you," She added, shocking both women.
"Um, thank you," Amity responded and she nervously tugged down the sleeves of her hoody, covering her forearms. That did not escape Danielle's attention.
They shared a few more awkward looks and they laughed nervously. The green-eyed woman fetched the deep plates and asked Luz to set the table. She then asked Amity to take the glasses and water-filled pitcher to the table while the older woman wrapped up the main course.
"So…" The host broke the silence after they sat together at the dining table, "Rumor has it you put Tommy Bergstein in his place," She said, gesturing to young women to help themselves.
"Well, Amity did," Luz confirmed and smiled when she noticed the witch's expression.
The golden eyes roamed the table hungrily. Her ears twitched in excitement, and perked up with curiosity, making her girlfriend smile affectionately at that. Amity did not know what she was looking at but all of her senses assured her it would be delicious.
"Right," Luz smiled, showing off her fang, "So this is Italyʼs greatest gift to the world," She pointed at the wool-like food in one of the bowls, "Pasta. You can mix it up with a lot of stuff but today we have Bolognese sauce," Amity raised her brow in question, "Thatʼs a Region in Italy," Luz explained with a smile.
"Would you mind?" The witch was reluctant to help herself, not wanting to embarrass herself.
"Not at all," Luz replied and helped Amity with some pasta and sauce, "The funny thing is while the Bolognese sauce is indeed from Bologna, Italians do not mix it with spaghetti," She added and passed the bowl to Danielle.
When everyone had their portion, Blight was not the first one to start eating. While she felt very comfortable around Luz, Odalia's teachings kicked in when she was around strangers. Amity waited for Danielle to start eating and then followed the example of the human women.
The first bite she took was full of hesitation. While the smell of the new dish was mouth-watering, she was afraid of that first sensation. She still managed to keep her expression still, not showing her nerves.
"So, how do you…" Danielle paused when she noticed the witch's expression.
The golden eyes shone brightly as if she just figured out the meaning of life while her ears slanted in disbelief just to perk up in excitement. The witch's body stiffened for a moment just so her shoulders would relax a moment later.
"Wait for it…" Luz said in a singing, amused voice, never getting tired of Amity's expressiveness.
"Titan," The witch whispered and took another, less hesitant bite.
The structure of the pasta, which was not as wormy as she feared, was pleasurable to bite into. The density and acidity of the sauce spread nicely across her taste buds, while the minced meat was the perfect way to complete the meal as a whole.
"Okay," Danielle said with amusement, "I'm glad you like it," She added and they all continued their meal. It was not long before Luz suddenly shook her head in disbelief.
"I always forget how soft the human food is," The brunette said with a small smile.
"Is it really that different?" The older woman asked and was surprised to see both young women share a look.
"Well," Luz let down her fork and took a sip of water, "When someone is a bad cook, here it means the food is too plain or they burned the dish."
"In the Demon Realm being a bad cook can be fatal. The dire rat's heads can bite their way through the stomach or the baby Kraken's tentacles can entangle your esophagus," Amity explained and smiled slightly when she noticed Danielle's expression.
"Additionally, the food is much more… Dense," Luz added, "There's still a lot of Demon food I still can't digest."
"Didn't stop her from trying," Amity added with a chuckle.
"Of course, it didn't," Danielle joined the laughter while Luz got flustered.
"I can't blame her," Amity smiled warmly at her girlfriend, "I really did like that chocolate ganache," She added with a taunting smile. The human's flustered expression disappeared immediately and the glare she sent the witch was truly deadly, "Too soon?"
"Not… Funny…" Luz replied dryly but could not stay mad at her girlfriend when she noticed the warm expression, "Fiiiiine…" She caved in and Danielle could not stay serious watching their antics.
"They're so much like Cami and Manny," She thought with a smile, watching the young couple while she cleaned up the table.
Luz embraced Amity with one arm to press a ticklish kiss into the crook of her jaw and the witch giggled showing off her fangs and Danielle was not feeling awkward about them anymore.
She smiled warmly at the women and even though her mind was racing with millions of questions she calmly offered them some herbal tea and joined them before offering them some dessert.
"So…" Danielle hesitated momentarily while she poured the tea, focusing on her action, "I don't mean to intrude but I was hoping…" She did not even know how to start.
"You want to know more about the Demon Realm?" Luz tried to guess.
"Yes!" The doctor exclaimed, "But also no…"
"Those are some mixed messages," Amity noted with a smirk.
"I guess, I want to know about you," Danielle said, gesturing to both of them, "Like… Ugh, why is it so difficult!?" Luz laughed wholeheartedly at it, embarrassing the host.
"Oh, I'm sorry for laughing," She sent Amity a small smile.
"Oh, time for some Owl wisdom…"
"It's just that my Mom would say something like 'Kid, calm down, gather your thoughts… Unless you want to start sounding like Hooty over there,' and trust me, no one wants to sound like Hooty," Luz explained with a delicate giggle.
"The house Demon," Amity explained.
"Right…" Danielle was not sure if she was following but she understood the main point.
"So just calm down. Ask about whatever you want. You saved the love of my life and I promised you answers. You deserve this much," Luz explained better this time.
"Although," Amity interrupted, "I think it would be best we'd move to your living room or any place you feel safe," She looked at her girlfriend in wordless communication.
"Yeah," Luz confirmed, "Some answers might be… Well, hard truths."
Danielle only nodded and she stood up to gather everything and move toward the living room. She was shocked when the young witch drew a glowing circle in the air with her forefinger and suddenly the teapot, teaspoons, and teacups were levitating behind the pointy-eared being and following her to the other room.
"Wow," Danielle whispered in awe and followed her too as if she was enchanted as well.
"So ask," Luz urged, "I mean, I told you the basics about what I've been to for the past whatever years, so what is it? Don't be shy?" She encouraged with a warm smile.
"I…" The older woman hesitated. She felt like she was in some kind of trouble. She needed to remind herself she was an adult here.
"Right?"
"When I came over I noticed…" Danielle hesitated one last time, biting her lower lip, "I'm a doctor so I know how wounds heal. I know something bad happened to you in the past few months. I just need to know that whatever scarred you like that is not a threat to you anymore," She rambled out, glancing at the witch which shocked both Luz and Amity who shared a look, "Not that I can do anything to keep you safe but I need to know…" The young women shared another look and after a while, the brunette nodded, giving her girlfriend approval to be honest.
"You said, you had your fair share of mother-related issues, right?" Amity spoke up despite the question was not directed at her. Danielle nodded in response, playing along, "Oof, it's gonna be difficult without a sip of Apple Blood," The witch whispered more to herself while she took off the hoodie but everyone heard her.
The cherry disposition Blight had just a few moments ago was now forgotten. She looked deep into the green eyes and hoped their invitation to the human's home would not be rescinded. Amity caressed her scarred forearms nervously and took a calming breath.
"My mother is… WAS a very sick, deranged person," She began and felt Luz's hand grab her smaller one in support, "Let's skip my childhood and answer your question. What you see…" She pointed to her scarred neck and then looked at her girlfriend with love, "Is a result of a broken mind."
"Did your mother…"
"She's not…" Amity halted a growl and took a deep calming breath, making Danielle realize the issue was not as simple as a bitch of a mother, "Sorry," The witch regained her composure, "That woman hurt me a lot," She faced Luz, smiled affectionately, and brushed away a curly, stray lock, "But a reckless dork came into my life and saved me…"
"That's me, I'm the dork," Luz specified, making Amity smile and Danielle snort at that.
The older woman relaxed a little bit and listened to the witch's story, watching with honest fascination how the pale woman looked at Camila's daughter with devotion she had never seen before. Yet, she could not ignore the amount of scars both women wore.
"Luz broke the spell she used to control me. It didn't come without its price," She nervously caressed her neck again, "But that wasn't over. You see, I come from a very wealthy family so while we thought she was rotting in the Comformatorium…"
"Jail," Luz explained and Danielle nodded, not interrupting the story.
"She was free to plot her revenge," Amity stopped and pulled her sight away from Luz and guided it toward the older woman, "That's where my side of the story ends for a while," She added and Danielle's look traveled to her best friends' daughter.
"You're so good at the backstories, why don't you continue," Luz tried to get a free pass.
"I'm sorry, Luz. That's not my story to tell. If you're not ready then I'm sure Danielle would understand," Amity opposed, taking her girlfriend's hand in her own, offering support.
"Of course, Luz. Don't feel pressured, I'm sorry I…"
"Don't, Dani," Clawthorne interrupted a tad irritated, not really knowing why, "It's okay to be curious, I promised you answers, it's just…" Luz began to blink quickly while the tears swelled in her eyes, "Sorry, that was a lot…" She wiped the tears away, took a sip of her tea, and with Amity's support she faced the green-eyed woman once again.
"You don't have to…" Danielle reassured the young woman who just smiled and took a deep breath, interrupting the host.
"It was maybe a month after freeing Amity…" Clawthorne looked at the woman in front of her but it was clear that she was not seeing her. Not really, "All seemed to be fine, better than ever, really. We didn't have to hide anymore, we could really enjoy ourselves and not worry about the punishment Amity would face if she allowed herself to feel any positive emotion… Sorry, that's not my part of the story to tell," Luz diverted when she realized Danielle's heartbroken look at the witch, who sheepishly looked away, "Then one day, I was ambushed by a classmate. She was well prepared. Not even the Owl Demon could have saved me…"
"So she indeed is possessed?" Danielle thought but decided to not interrupt just yet.
"When I woke up I was somewhere underground, shackled in chains… L-like an animal…" Clawthorne paused when she felt a sudden surge of fear.
"Filthy, pathetic animal!" Odalia's voice echoed but Luz ignored it with all her might.
"I…" The young brunette deeply breathed in, "I was gone for a while…" She whispered cryptically, "But that time…" She could not continue, her breathing hitched and she panicked when she noticed her surroundings slowly disappear, her hands clenched on her jeans, "Time there… Broke…" Luz's eyes roamed the room which she could not see anymore, gasping for air her lungs did not receive, "Me…"
"Oh, no…" Amity thought when she felt the overwhelming panic spreading across her heart as well, knowing the fear she felt was not hers at all.
"Luz, can you hear me?" Amity turned in her seat and cupped the scarred face.
She could feel the shakes and trembles of the tan body, the sweat beading on Luz's forehead so the witch tried to apply some calming caresses, hoping to soothe her girlfriend's trembling body.
"Luz, Baby, look at me," She tried again, forgetting about the host watching them.
"Like you fucked my daughter?!" Echoed through Luz's head and she was back in the cell. She was so proud of herself that she was fine after waking up from the nightmares this morning so why now? "Let's see how this works…"
"NO!" Luz screamed and moved away from the witch.
She fell to the floor with a thud, and her eyes turned pitch-black before the golden irises appeared while she crawled away from the couch. When her back hit the wall, Luz tugged on her hair, discarding her beanie, trying to find a bridge to reality in pain, whimpering sadly.
"Luzita," Danielle's heart broke into a milion pieces.
She was about to approach the hurt brunette when she felt a delicate hold on her shoulder. She turned around and noticed the lavender-haired witch whose eyes never left her girlfriend.
"I know you want to help, but be careful," Amity warned the woman. Her warning was interrupted with a sudden thud when Luz hit the wall with the back of her head, "Oh, no, no, no, no, don't do that, please," Blight whispered and just like Luz this morning, she cushioned her head, kneeling by her side.
"I won't let you hurt her… I won't let you… I won't…" Luz mumbled, tears rolling down her cheeks, a silent screech escaped her lips and Danielle watched carefully how the witch took care of the young human.
"I'm here Luz, you're safe now…"
"López, you idiot… They really love each other but you had to push…" The doctor felt a wave of guilt that she could have even considered Amity to be the one who hurt the Nocedas' daughter.
"I'm not… An animal!" Luz growled and a loud screech escaped her lips, deafening Amity, making her cover her ears, and wince in pain.
Danielle noticed that and decided to take action. Ignoring her survival instincts, which screamed at her to run away from the Demonic being, she quickly scooted over and forced Luz into a tight hug which the young woman fought against.
"I hope this still works…" Danielle thought and cleared her throat, her hold on Luz tightened, and she started rocking.
"¡Ay! qué bonito es volar, a las dos de la mañana…" Amity's jaw dropped when she heard the woman sing in a strange language.
It was nothing like she ever heard before. The melodic trill of the accent she heard when Luz was recovering in the Clinic brought back the feeling of relief she felt when her girlfriend woke up from her slumber. Amity could not deny the sound of the language enticed her.
"Volar y dejarse caer en los brazos de una dama," What shocked the witch, even more, was that Luz calmed down almost immediately, returning the hug desperately, "Ninguna, ninguna, ninguna, no sé, yo ando en pretensiones de chuparme a usted," Danielle continued another verse and Clawthorne was now holding the older woman for her dear life, sobbing quietly.
"What the…" Amity whispered and was surprised by the older woman's smile but even more that Luz was embracing the strange woman who rocked them calmingly, stroking the brunette's curly hair.
"Camila used to sing it to Luz when she was smaller. Worked every time," The woman explained and Amity's eyes widened.
"Danielle, that's something I really need you to teach me but I don't think it was the best idea considering…" Amity said, surprising the older woman.
"Te extrañé, Mamá," Luz mumbled while the tears rolled down her face in a waterfall of sadness, "¿Mamá?" A query filled with dread followed, making Danielle understand Amity's point. She just confused the young woman even more.
"Luz, everythingʼs alright," Amity tried to calm her girlfriend down but she knew it would not be so simple.
"¿Dónde estás, Mamá?" Luz asked while her gaze roamed the room in search of Camila.
"Luz, calm down, everything will be fine," Amity promised with a soft voice and created a spell circle that created a small ball of light. The black-gold eyes faded into hazel-brown ones and they watched the illumination carefully, "Do you know who you are?" Amity asked while she created one light spell after another.
"Titan, she loves shiny things," She thought and continued illuminating the living room.
"Iʼm… L-Luz…" The brunette choked out but Amity was not happy with that answer, "Noc-... Luz Clawthorne. The daughter of the greatest witch who ever lived," She corrected herself and Amity stopped casting spells, her eyes shone with relief.
"Yes, you are," Amity confirmed, a small smile cracking her lips. Luz's gaze left the lights, traveled back down to the witch, and then to the older woman who still kept her close.
"Weh!" Clawthorne exclaimed, pulling away in an instant, roaming the woman frantically, realizing her mind played tricks on her again, "I'm sorry, Dani…" She whispered and sat back with her back against the wall, pulling her knees close to her chest, and placing her forehead down.
She took a deep, shaking breath, and clenched her jeans tightly. Amity crawled next to Luz and the young brunette leaned against her girlfriend in search of familiar warmth and support.
"It's okay, Luz," Danielle joined them by the wall and she looked at her living room, not really seeing it, "I have trauma too, I know how difficult it is…"
"Amity…" Luz interrupted, getting everyone's attention, "Can we skip to your part of the story?" She whispered, her voice still shaken.
"Are you sure you want to continue?" The witch was worried, Luz had a bad habit of pushing herself too hard.
"She deserves to know…" Clawthorne managed to look up and faced Danielle, "After all… You want to make sure that the last part of the person you loved the most in the world is still safe," She said and the older woman's shocked expression confirmed her suspicions, "I am right, aren't I?" She asked and Danielle stuttered, her eyes roaming the woman's face while the witch watched them with confusion.
"How did you…" The green-eyed woman finally choked out, Luz sighed and fetched something from the inner pocket of her flannel.
"I found my mother's suicide letter…" Luz whispered, doing all she could to not cry again.
A small hand on her back dragged her away from her grim thoughts, grounding her. She turned to the left and noticed golden eyes filled with worry. She hated worrying her girlfriend but Luz was grateful to have her in her life.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Amity asked softly, trying to support her girlfriend in this unexpected turn of events.
"I found it just this morning… I was trying to find something that would tell us if we can really trust her or not," Luz explained and turned to the right to face Danielle, "Just like you wanted to be sure Amity was not the one who hurt me?" The older brunette looked away, ashamed, "Take this. I read only the first sentence when I realized what it was and that… It was meant for you," She explained and offered the yellowish piece of paper to the woman by her side, "You should have it. Whether you want to read it or not," She added when she noticed the woman's hesitation.
Amity kept soothing her girlfriend's back with slow strokes and Danielle finally accepted the letter with shaking hands while the tears finally escaped her green eyes which she clenched immediately before wiping her face.
"T-thank you…" She whispered and Luz cracked a small smile.
"Don't mention it," Clawthorne said softly, "Just… Tell me if she left because of me… That's something I need to know."
"Oh… Luz…" Amity could not believe that her girlfriend kept living with the conviction that she was the reason behind her mother's death.
"I don't need to read it to know an answer to that, Luz," Danielle wiped her tears away and caressed the scarred cheek, "But I promise to let you know if I will learn anything that might be of relevance to you, okay?"
"Thanks…" Luz smiled, leaned back on the wall, and straightened her legs, massaging her right thigh a bit. Amity and Danielle followed her example, letting themselves relax too, "Sorry about all of that," She gestured to herself, "I guess, I'm not over what happened as I thought I was," Amity snorted in mocking disbelief, "What?" She was shocked by the witch's sharp glare.
"You really thought you were over it?" She could not believe her oblivious human girlfriend.
"Um… Yeah?"
"Titan, give me strength," Amity murmured, hiding her face in her hands. She took a deep, calming breath and shot her head up to look into the hazel-brown eyes, "I know you want to be over it but it will take time, Luz. Even I am often triggered with…" She paused and glanced at Danielle.
"I was trying to find something that would tell us if we can really trust her or not."
"Triggered with memories of everything, really…" She could not get the courage to talk about Philip, "And I've been through so many years of Healers' help… You know how often I have nightmares how…" Her voice cracked and she stopped, words lost in her throat.
"You guys have been through a lot, huh?" They all sighed and everyone for a different reason.
"Perfectly broken for each other…" Luz chuckled.
"You're not broken, either of you…" Danielle said in a fierce whisper, "You've been hurt. The body heals faster than the mind," She added and looked away sheepishly, hugging herself.
They sat in silence for a while. Amity knew her girlfriend was hiding a lot of grief, sadness, and pain, and she felt so helpless, not knowing how to help. Especially since she had a lot of her own issues to deal with. She thought about this morning.
Oh, how she wished she would know how to deal with this and help both of them get better. The witch constantly felt guilty about her girlfriend's trauma and despite saying otherwise, the guilt did not leave her.
Luz was watching the light spell Amity summoned and smiled internally. She remembered how proud she was to find that first Glyph. So much has changed since. She felt broken. On the other hand, she wanted to help her girlfriend through her trauma.
Having a mother leave you without saying goodbye was one thing but having a mother abuse you and then discard you? The things Odalia did to Amity were unspeakable and wrong on so many levels that Luz still did not know how to talk about it.
"How about that dessert?" Danielle broke the silence.
To her surprise, both Luz and Amity started laughing. What started with a few scoffs turned into a fit of wholehearted laughter, and the two young women leaned against each other. They shared a calming sigh before facing Danielle.
"Yeah, I could go for some dessert," Luz wiped a tear from her eye and sent the older woman a cocky, fanged smile, "Just let me get myself sorted out a bit…"
"Oh, yeah, sure…" Danielle replied, getting up, and Amity followed her example, "The bathroom is right there, second door to the left," She added and the witch extended her hand to help her girlfriend up.
"Thank you," Luz whispered, accepting Amity's hand gratefully, "I'll be right back."
"We'll be in the kitchen," Danielle said with a soft smile and then gestured for the witch to follow her.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Amity asked once they were back by the island counter and the witch was trying to hide her unease that came with spending alone time with the strange woman.
"Yeah…" The human said in a worry-filled voice, "Before she comes back, can you tell me what the hell happened to her?" The green eyes glistened with tears.
The witch's ears slanted in unease, she turned her head away, unable to bear the woman's gaze, and she hugged herself. Amity bit her lower lip, looked down at her bare forearms, and sighed heavily.
"My mother…" The witch finally spoke up, her lavender hair ruffled a bit at the M-word, "She kidnapped Luz. She hurt her… Tortured her…" The witch dug her nails into her arms, trying to keep calm when she explained, "We looked for her way too long… I couldn't locate her…" She finally faced the brunette and tears rolled down her pale cheeks, "She died, Danielle… Her heart stopped and I…" She was shaken by a muffled sob while she tried to breathe.
"Cariño…" Danielle whispered and approached the witch, "You have to stop blaming yourself," She added, knowing the feeling all too well. She extended her hand and before touching the pale woman something urged her to stop, "Can I touch you? Or would you rather not?" Amity suddenly laughed through her tears, surprising Danielle.
"Are all humans so considerate or is it something Luz learned from you?" She asked, making the host return a smile, and managed to remove her hands from clutching her arms to wipe her face, "Titan, sorry about that…"
"Shit, you're bleeding!" Danielle exclaimed, noticing a few trickles of blood escaping the witch's arms.
"Huh?" Amity looked down and realized she must have lost control of her nails while grounding herself, "Oh, that's nothing," She added with a small smile, and with a small blue spell circle the tiny pricks were healed and gone.
"This is so cool…" Danielle plopped into a chair by a dining table, not knowing how to react.
"It's a double-edged sword," Amity joined the woman at the table and she placed her elbows on the top. She presented her forearms and continued explaining whilst watching her marks, "If you're in the wrong state of body, emotional turmoil or you overdo it, Healing Magic can really hurt you," She continued and smirked at herself, "I made all the mistakes possible when I got those…" She explained and felt Danielle's curious gaze.
"You must have had a really good reason then," The brunette commented with a smile, making the Demonic being chuckle, showing off her fangs.
"Gotta admit, she's got her charm…" Danielle thought and returned the smile, feeling more and more comfortable around Clawthorne's girlfriend.
"Yeah, that reason should be back by now, don't you think?" Amity said with a mock-filled voice but suddenly her expression faded, her ears slanted in fear, and pupils shrank in her gold eyes. Her right hand flew up to the small scar at the base of her neck and then to her chest, "Something's wrong…" She shot up and ran toward the bathroom with Danielle in tow.
Luz left the living room as fast as she could. She was angry at herself for losing her composure and at the same time, she was frightened. She hated those mixed feelings ravaging her body.
"Is Amity right? Am I just pretending to be fine?" She wondered when she washed her face over the sink. She turned off the tap and looked into her brown eyes, "Am I just broken beyond repair?"
Her gaze traveled from her brow scar she got while discovering the Plant Glyph to her right cheek that was mauled by Odalia's powerful left hook. A memory flashed painfully before her eyes bringing back the memories. She closed her eyes and gasped deeply in search of calm.
"You're just so fucked up…" She whispered in defeat and sat down on the floor, resting her back on the side of the tub. She pulled her legs toward her chest, hugged her sheens, and let her forehead rest on her knees, "This was supposed to be a fun vacation and I can't go a day without freaking out…"
"She's gone so why canʼt I just stop thinking about it? Both of our mothers are gone and Eda was always there for me…" She tried to reason with herself, feeling anger bubbling inside.
She was furious, feeling disappointed in herself. Despite Amity assuring her that she was not responsible for any of it, Luz could not stop. Just for once, she did not want to be a burden. Yet, even this morning Amity had to heal her and care for her.
"Hoot!" The Demon tried to stop the human's intrusive thoughts but they were brutally ignored, "Hoot?" Or were they not heard at all?
The Demon ran through the human's Mind Scapes trying to reach the Inner Luz, hoping to be heard. They knew all too well how important it was for them to communicate. Being a prisoner in someone else's body was not ideal but the Demon knew that if anything happened to their host, there was no telling what would happen to them as well.
"I just wanted to make her happy, be a good girlfriend…" Luzʼs mind was unforgiving, "Just like I was supposed to heal Eda and not give her another thing to worry about…"
"Hoot!" The Demon was slowly losing their patience but was still trying to reach their host.
"Then I kept lying to Willow for years…" Luz started sobbing into her knees while her hands balled the jeans on her sheens. She felt so weak, not worthy of any affection she was receiving, "I should have died in that cell…"
"HOOT!" That did it for the Demon who clearly lost their patience. With a screech echoing through Luz's mind, it growled loudly.
"F-fuck…" Luz gasped, pained with the deafening sound she could not protect herself from.
Without any warning, her body was thrown into the pain of the human's memory. With no other way to be heard the Owl Demon yelled inside the human's head and paralyzed her body with overwhelming visions.
Luz had seen Eda care for the deep cuts on her back, making her understand that her Mom would worry about her no matter what.
Then the human had seen her girlfriend lie on the floor of the Blight Manor, looking at her with love and trust.
"I trust you…" Amity said and Luz understood that the witch would gladly die, trying to be free, to be with her.
Clawthorne had seen her best friend cover her naked, mauled body with her favorite jacket, caring for the human's comfort.
"Iʼm not worthy…" Luz whispered and the screech that echoed through her mind made her throw her head back and experience no other sensation than splitting, paralyzing pain.
Vision after vision, the Demon showed Luz all the good that happened to her right after she thought she messed up. How they brought the Clawthorne sisters back together, how she helped Viney and Emira confess their feelings, how Willow regained her self-worth after saving Luz from the bullies at Hexside, and finally how she helped Amity.
"D-donʼt…" She whimpered, "H-hurts…"
The Demon ignored her pleas just as Luz ignored them. They showed Luz how she fought for the smallest expression on the witchʼs cold face, how she helped Amity get more comfortable with her feelings, respecting her boundaries, day after day until she freed the witch.
They showed how Amity was worriedly sitting by Luz's bed, never leaving her side, making sure the human was comfortable and safe, and not listening to anyone who suggested that she should leave.
"I love you with all my life force…" The Inner Amity said when they bonded and Luz could not ignore what the Demon wanted their host to finally understand.
"N-no more…" Luz whimpered, feeling overwhelmed with screeching. She could not move, she could not scream for help, all she could do was accept the punishment.
"Help…" She managed to think before everything went black.
Amity made it toward the bathroom and she could not force herself to act. She felt an overwhelming panic that made her dread what would they witness once they opened the door.
Danielle watched the witch hesitate, while she kept her pale hand on the small scar at the base of her neck. Suddenly, the lavender-haired woman tied her brows in determination, her ears slanted, and she leaned toward the door.
Knock, knock, knock!
"Luz? Is everything okay?" Amity asked, cursing herself mentally. Of course, everything was not okay, "Luz, I'm coming in," She added and turned the doorknob.
When she realized the doors were locked from the inside, she surprised Danielle with a small spell circle that opened the door, revealing the young human contorted in pain.
"¡Qué Mierda!" Danielle exclaimed when they entered the bathroom and Amity ran forward to assist her girlfriend.
Luz was leaning on the side of the bath, her legs spread on the floor, hands on either side of her body with palms facing the ceiling while her head was lolled to the side, resting on the rim of the tub.
The witch watched the human's face with worry, her pitch-black eyes tearing down, wetting her heated cheeks, the forehead was covered in a thin layer of cold sweat while slightly parted lips, gasping for air, let out drool.
"Get me a towel or something," Amity ordered in a stern voice that made Danielle act without hesitation. The human passed the witch the hand towel and Amity placed it under the brunette's head and then carefully cleaned her girlfriendʼs face with a quick spell.
"Whatʼs wrong with her?" Danielle asked quietly, feeling frightened for the woman she felt now responsible for.
"Iʼm guessing, the Demon had trouble communicating with her…"
"N-no… M-more… L-loud…" Luz whimpered and another wave of tears escaped her eyes. Amity noticed the nails on her girlfriendʼs fingers lengthen and retract unevenly.
"Luz, can you hear me?" Amity tried to reach the hurt human. She touched the warm cheek and tried to soothe her but suddenly Luz began to tremble and a loud screech echoed across the bathroom.
"What…" Danielle's question was interrupted when suddenly the black eyes erupted with a golden glow.
"AAAAAAAAA!" Amity yelled in pain, letting go of Luz and shocking Danielle.
The witch sat back on her heels, and threw her head back, arching her back while her eyes and bite mark on her neck shared Luz's glow, spreading to her veins and scars around her neck.
"Amity!" The green-eyed woman exclaimed, feeling helpless with two magical beings, paralyzed with pain.
"Enough!" The witch exclaimed, fighting the pain away, and a pink aura erupted from her slender body. The golden glow disappeared and she leaned toward her girlfriend and took hold of her shoulders, "Listen, birdbrain! Youʼre hurting her! You need to stop! Weʼll find a way to help you both!" She exclaimed, not really sure the Demon would hear her.
A guild-ridden chirp escaped Luz's throat and the golden light died down. The pitch-black eyes closed and the hurt human managed to gasp for air and breathe heavily. She gulped and opened her eyes again, clearly confused about her whereabouts. The witch retrieved a potion vial from her hair and hesitated for a moment.
"Priorities, Blight!" She scolded herself and forced the elixir into her girlfriend's lips.
"Easy, now…" She tried to soothe the brunette, wiping her tears away with her thumb.
She paused administering the elixir when Luz pulled away, and coughed delicately, the black eyes faded and her natural, hazel-brown, blinked weakly at the witch. The human gasped and when Amity tried to help Clawthorne drink more, she was stopped.
"N-no… We've got just this one…" Luz whispered, took a deep breath trying to calm herself down, and let her head back on the rim of the tub again. The witch nodded in understanding and corked the vial.
"Sorry about that…" Luz thought, still shaken up, "Thanks for pulling me out of my mess… Again…" She added and a small supportive chirp let her know that everything was fine between her and the guest of her soul.
"What's in that elixir?" Danielle broke the silence and Luz opened her eyes weakly, meeting the green ones for a moment before traveling back to the golden ones, nodding in approval.
"That's…" Amity hesitated but then she faced the older woman by her side, "That's what we need to find out. These elixirs apparently need magic of the Demon Realm to work properly and in the past two weeks they became so weak Luz now needs a double dose twice a day," She explained, turned back to Luz and caressed her face once again, making the human smile goofily.
"Mmm… Nice… Cold…" The witch scoffed at the dork of her girlfriend.
"So you see, we need to find the Human Realm equivalent before these two lose their connection…" Amity paused, not wanting to even think about that possibility.
"Don't be so morbid…" Luz finally managed to speak up with a groggy voice, "In a week or so Willow will join us and then we can ask Eda for a fresh batch," She said but it did not calm the witch down.
"We don't know how fast they lose their oomph so that's playing Hexes Hold'em with a blindfold. We had calm days here and yet you already got feathery in public. I don't want to see you get hurt, Luz…"
"Amity…" Clawthorne tried to argue.
"She's right, Luz," Danielle said sternly and extended her hand, "You're in luck because I have planned a trip to the lab with the blood samples in the afternoon. I can do the reverse engineering of that elixir and hopefully, I'll get the main ingredient," She explained and Amity put the vial in her waiting hand.
"I wouldn't want to cause any inconvenience," Luz started but she was shut down by both Amity's and Danielle's glares.
"Great! Now they bonded!"
"Hoot!"
"Yeah, I know they're right… I still don't like that…"
"Fine!" Luz finally agreed and started to slowly get up off the floor.
"Don't push yourself…" Amity whispered with worry and embraced the tan, hurt body.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine in a moment…" She said cockily, making the witch frown at her, "See?" She tried to prove a point by taking a step forward and almost fell to her face.
"Oh, yeah. I see," Amity mocked when she caught her girlfriend and helped her up. Danielle giggled at that.
"Okay, in a longer moment," Luz added and they both looked at Danielle.
"Right, follow me," She offered and guided them to the back of her house where she had her study.
When they walked into the room they realized it was not a mere study. Danielle had a small, home Vet Clinic in that spare room. The smell of disinfectant was strong while the walls were covered with shelves filled with medicine and veterinary books.
Some samples were prepared for transportation in the small fridge and Danielle walked over to her working area to take a sample of the mysterious golden elixir, letting the women roam the room.
By the time she was done, Luz did not need the witch's assistance to move around and she began to inspect the bookshelves while Amity's gaze was stuck on the small, white lump of fur. The golden-eyed woman pulled a lab stool to sit on, strangely enchanted by her discovery.
She sat closely and the lump of fur opened its piercing blue eyes and stretched its body. A white cat sat up on the desk and stared into Amity's gold eyes. The witch did not notice that Danielle and Luz shared a look and with a curious smile, they watched her interact with the animal.
The cat lowered one of its ears while the other one was perked up. Amity unknowingly mirrored its behavior.
"That's just too cute…" Luz thought and smiled warmly. She leaned against the bookshelf and watched her girlfriend.
The cat tilted its head to the side and Amity did the same. Its ears slanted and the witch's ones mirrored. The animal straightened up and started purring. Blight had no idea her chest had begun vibrating as well, filling the room with low rumble. The seconds were ticking away and the humans watched Amity's unexpected behavior.
"Meow!" The cat exclaimed and leaned forward to brush its forehead on the witch's chin.
"Amity?" Luz asked, watching her girlfriend with a little bit of unease, exchanging looks with Danielle. The lavender-haired woman seemed to be in some kind of trance, accepting the animal's affection, not seeing anything around her.
"Cariño, are you alright?" Danielle asked as well, she took a few steps closer but she received no answer, "Amity?" She tapped her nail on the table and finally got a reaction from both the witch and the cat.
"Y-yeah?" Amity asked, blinking rapidly, shocked by the way Danielle looked at her. She turned her lavender head and looked at Luz.
"You zoned out for a bit, Baby," Clawthorne said softly and she walked over to the witch, "Are you sure you're alright? We had a pretty eventful night and morning…"
"Everything's fine," Amity interrupted and smiled delicately when she noticed her girlfriend's worry, "It's just…" She faced the cat again and their eyes met, "There's something strangely familiar about this cat…" She explained in a whisper.
"She came over a couple of years ago to my clinic," Danielle sat next to the witch and extended her hand to caress the animal who purred happily, "She was not hurt but she stuck around ever since," She added and smiled when the cat accepted delicate ear scratches. Luz smiled when she noticed how her girlfriend's ears twitched at that sight, "Although you are right, there's something off about her. She never eats, she never drinks, and she shows up out of nowhere," The cat meowed loudly and everyone's attention drifted to the surprisingly clean, white animal.
"So anyway…" Luz interrupted.
"Oh yeah," Danielle stood up and returned to her workstation, "You can have this back," She returned the vial with some elixir in it. Luz downed it in a quick swig before hiding the empty vial, "I should have the results by tomorrow if that's nothing too complicated," She explained and smiled at both women.
"Wow, great!" Luz exclaimed, relief washed over her.
"Don't get too excited, Luz," Amity stood up as well and leaned on the desk, the cat moved to her right side as if it wanted to be a part of the conversation, "Just because we'll find the Human Realm equivalent it doesn't mean we will be able to get our hands on the substance," She explained and Luz's expression faded a little bit.
"She's right. For all we know this may be illegal," Danielle agreed with the witch.
"Well then maybe we can find a way to brew it ourselves," Luz tried to find any kind of positive action she could take, "I am, after all, a potion master, now am I?" She wiggled her eyebrow playfully.
"That…" Amity tried to find a counterargument, "Is actually true!" The witch smiled, proud of her multitrack girlfriend.
"Let's keep it for the moment we'll know if the substance even exists in our world," Danielle interrupted while she closed the small container, prepared for her lab, "Now, why don't we go back to our dessert? And no more trauma talk," She added with a small smile, and the young couple returned the expression sheepishly.
"Sounds like a plan," Luz agreed and they left the room.
They returned to their seats on the couch in the living room and Amity was shocked to realize the cat followed them into the house and nestled beside her, watching her carefully. Amity felt uneasy under the piercing, blue gaze but she did her best to ignore the animal and focused on the conversation Luz and Danielle were having.
"... As small as Gravesfield is no one knew anything," The green-eyed woman said and Clawthorne nodded in agreement.
"Yeah… Bergstein's influence helped too," Luz confirmed, "Luckily my awesome girlfriend put him in his place and we don't have to worry about him again," She added cheerfully, facing Amity, sending her a proud smile.
"I didn't really do much…" The witch said sheepishly, tucking her lavender hair behind her ear.
"That's not what I heard," Danielle said with a smile, "People talk and apparently they like you both," She added and the young women looked up at her in disbelief.
"But…" Amity started.
"We didn't do anything…" Luz finished her thought.
"You did enough for at least four people to mention you," The older woman said and she took a sip of tea, "Then again, maybe you should meet more people. I can't believe I'm gonna say it but maybe Jake was right. Go to the Bonfire, have some fun," She added with a smile.
Luz turned to face Amity and their eyes met. They were both anxious. They have indeed been stuck at home longer than they care to admit. While the witch was at least lost in her passion for the new technology, the human was simply too anxious to mingle. Going to the store to resupply was stressful enough.
"That's your call, Luz," The witch said softly, "I know how stressful it must be for you to come back here during a vacation where everyone who hurt you can make a sudden appearance…" She stopped herself, anxious to even consider such a possibility, "You remember how paralyzed I was when… Philip suddenly showed up," She added, balling her jeans with her fists, and Luz could not believe what she was hearing.
"Oh, Amity…" The human whispered, not believing someone actually understood her.
"That's why I didn't push you into anything…" The witch added, making Luz look away sheepishly.
Danielle was sitting quietly watching the women in front of her. Her mind was racing, trying to figure out what happened to the witch. She looked at her scars, her green eyes traveled from her neck to her arms.
The doctor knew that not all wounds leave marks. She had a feeling that whatever happened to Amity was deeper than the marks on her body. Especially since those seemed to be quite recent.
"Excuse me for a moment," Danielle wanted to give the young couple a moment to figure out the plan themselves, without her supervision.
She entered the kitchen and sat by the dining table. She sighed heavily and replayed everything that happened in the past few days. A call for help in the middle of the night, people at the Clinic gossiping about the young couple, their stories of the life she would not wish upon anyone.
"This is just too unbelievable…" She thought and took another deep breath to calm her racing heart.
Danielle would never believe if anyone had told her that Camila's daughter was alive and well… All things considered. She retrieved a letter Luz had given her earlier and looked at it with hesitation.
She was reluctant to open it but she knew it had to be important. With a heavy heart, she unfolded the piece of paper and covered her quivering lips when she noticed an all too familiar handwriting.
"My Dearest Danielle,
I am truly sorry to leave you this note instead of saying goodbye myself. I am a coward. I am scared to let go of Manny, just as I am afraid of giving anyone else a chance. Most importantly I am afraid for Luz.
The longer I stay with her, the more I drag her down with me. She deserves better. She deserves all the happiness, a mother who would love and support her through thick and thin, not a disabled one with a disease like mine.
I know you always thought of her as your own. Please, take care of her. I hope you'll both find happiness.
Please, love again.
Till death do us part,
Yours Camila,"
Danielle's eyes darted over the piece of paper over and over again. She could not believe what she just learned. Eight years after Camila's death she learned that the woman actually loved her back. She learned she was supposed to take Luz in. She was supposed to…
"Dani?" Luz's head popped into the kitchen. The green-eyed woman looked up with tear-filled eyes and noticed the goofy, cheerful expression the Clawthorne had just faded, "Is everything okay?" She asked, approaching the diner table.
"Um…" Danielle cleared her throat, "Yes, everything is fine, don't worry about that," She wiped her unshed tears and faked a smile.
"If you don't wanna talk about it just say so, no need to lie, you know," Luz said bitterly, tying her hands, and the older brunette chuckled, shaking her head in disbelief.
"I'm sorry, you're right, you're right," She agreed and looked back at Luz, "It's just a lot…"
"I get it, take your time," Luz interrupted and her expression changed.
She smiled warmly and hoped to support the older woman. She could not shake off the feeling of safety and familiarity while around the doctor.
"Hoot?"
"Yeah, it's good strange… But still strange," Luz thought and watched the woman in front of her recompose herself.
"Did you know your mother wanted me to take you in?" Danielle asked and Luz shook her head, "Well, now we both know," She added with a sad smile and was lost in thought.
"She would have been my daughter…"
"So what did you decide on?" Danielle broke a longer silence when she finally folded and hid the letter inside her pocket.
"We'd be happy to go," Luz confirmed with a mischievous smile, showing off her fang.
"Well, then I'd better get you something more to eat before I drive you…"
"What?" Luz asked dumbfoundedly.
"If you're about to drink…"
"I meant the driving part…"
"Oh…" Danielle was caught off guard, "Well, I thought since I'm going to a lab anyway and I know how those parties go, I thought I could give you a lift," She explained and watched Clawthorne's expression of plain disbelief, "That is if that's okay with you," She added sheepishly.
"Y-yeah…" Luz blinked rapidly, "It's very okay, you just surprised me. I wouldn't want to intrude or anything, we've been causing you enough problems as it is…"
"Luz…" Danielle looked at the young woman sternly, "You are not causing problems. I am happy you called me and let me into your life. I'd be happy to do it over again. Remember about that if anything goes wrong at the party, okay?" She added and Luz nodded hesitantly, "Good, now get Amity here so I can… Wait! Where's Amity?" Danielle got up off the chair and with a slight panic ran toward the living room where Luz left her girlfriend.
"Awww… You're warming up to her," Luz teased from behind when she stood right behind the woman, "Don't worry, I left her in the best company," She added and they both chuckled, watching the witch petting the white cat while they both purred in contentment.
"This is so weird," Danielle noted, "I have never seen her trust someone so easily," She explained and felt Clawthorne's gaze on her back, "I mean the cat…"
"I could say the same thing about Amity and you, you know," Luz teased a little bit more, enjoying the flustered expression creeping into the doctor's face who turned to send her a glare, "Alright, alright, I'm done teasing," She chuckled, raising her hands defensively.
They were soon done with a quick meal they all prepared in the kitchen together. Danielle was overjoyed seeing Luz so happy, teaching the Demonic being about human food and traditions. Even though she forgot and mixed many of them.
The doctor could not help but feel more at peace than she was in years when life and laughter returned to her home. She watched the young couple, feeling more and more at ease with the witchʼs feral features. She soon stopped considering them feral at all, realizing she must have been panicking the other night.
"Okay, I know we need to go soon but you cannot leave me alone with this lemon sorbet I made," Danielle said with a chuckle after they had finished their tapas. The two women shared a look before they flashed a smile at the older brunette, "What?" She felt uncomfortable under their gaze.
"Oh, nothing, nothing," Luz chuckled, "It's just…"
"Wholesome…" Amity sheepishly finished the sentence and she giggled at Danielle's blush, "Also," She faced Luz, "Whatʼs a lemon?" She added in a dead serious tone, making the humans laugh at her theatrics.
"Okay, now you have to try it!" Danielle decided and prepared three portions of the frozen dessert.
"Lemon is a type of sour fruit brought from Europe to the Americas by Christopher Columbus," Luz started explaining while the witch watched Danielle's every gesture with a child-like fascination while the woman served the desert.
"Oh! I remember that one! The man who came to America thinking it's India!" Amity exclaimed and the older human sent Luz a questioning gaze.
"Sheʼs been learning a lot about our history,"
"Try 'about everything'," Amity said with a scoff, accepting the dessert. She looked down at the bowl and her ears twitched, "So where's the fruit?" She asked and Danielle smiled warmly.
"It is a special type of magic to introduce her to things so common for us," López thought, feeling warmth spreading in her chest.
"The sorbet is a type of frozen dessert. It's lemon juice, water, and sugar mixed together and frozen," Danielle explained and smiled when she noticed witch's ears perking up in excitement, "Just take it easy because I may have added too much lemon, making it very sour," She warned and took a bite, her face scrunching at the taste, "Yeah, so sour," She added and Luz laughed at her expressiveness.
Amity looked at the yellowish, frozen substance. She was encouraged by the fact that both Luz and Danielle were eating her portions. She took a first bite and she could not control the way her ears fluttered her.
The sourness spread across her tongue, making her salivate so hard it almost hurt. She shook her head, flapping her ears, and took another mouthful of the desert, falling in love with the sensation of frozen mass melting on her tongue.
The sourness mixed with sweetness was a revelation to the witch. She did not even realize Luz and Danielle stopped eating, watching her astonished look, expressive shock, confusion, and desire for more.
"I take it you like it?" Danielle asked hesitantly, making Amity realize she lost herself in the experience.
"Um, sorry…" Amity smiled sheepishly, "Human food keeps surprising me… Is there anything better than this?" She wondered and Luz chucked before planting a loud, wet kiss on the witchʼs cheek.
Danielle packed up the specimen she needed to take to the lab and then invited Luz and Amity to get into her car, smirking at the way the witch eyed her minivan. She adjusted her rearview mirror and noticed the witch watching her motorcycle with a worried gaze.
"Don't worry, Cariño, I'll take care of your Rambler," She promised, starting the engine and the witch leaned forward taking hold of the passenger's seat, and leaning forward.
"The keys are in my jacket and you need to…"
"Amity," Danielle interrupted sternly, "Thatʼs Manny Nocedaʼs bike. If I'd scratch it not only you'd tear my head off but he'll haunt my ass all the way to Hell," She explained jokingly, hoping to help the young engineer relax, "Now calm down," She added watching Amity watch the motorcycle disappear as they drove off, "You better tell me how do you plan to blend in?" She asked, enticing a strange yelp from Luz.
"Totally forgot about this!" Clawthorne said and she started to rummage her pockets, "I thought it could come in handy," She added and retrieved two necklaces.
"Whatʼs that?" Danielle asked, facing the two women when she stopped at the parking lot. Her gaze traveled from the strange accessories to her newfound ward.
"These are Concealment Stones," Luz said with a small smile, presenting her the crimson one.
"See, we can teach you something too," Amity teased, making the older human smile sheepishly.
"I take it they conceal your features?" Danielle guessed while looking at Amity, "But what do they do for you?" She asked Luz whose expression faded.
"They… Conceal my features too," Luz murmured and put on her necklace, and with a delicate puff her scars disappeared, "Just like the night when you came over to help."
"Oh… Yeah…" Danielle recalled how Amity accidentally removed the necklace last week.
"Iʼm sorry, it's… Fresh…" Luz added and helped Amity with her choker, trying her best to ignore Danielle's worried gaze, "There you go," She whispered and caressed the pale face.
"Wow…" Danielle whispered when she realized how fast the Illusion obscured Amityʼs features, "Just when I got used to your ears and fangs you have to hide them," Danielle tried to joke, making Amity blush.
"At least you know how it looked from the other side when I was the sole human in the Boiling Isles," Luz teased, "Why do you think Eda gave me that beanie?" Amity sent her girlfriend a questioning look, "Well to cover my ears, of course, to help me blend in…"
"Well I love your round ears and dull fangs, Clawthorne," Amity purred, looking at Luz with a small, testing smile.
"And off you go!" Danielle exclaimed, "Go be young and cute somewhere else, get a room, and let me know when you need a ride home," She added, making the couple chuckle.
They exited the vehicle and Amityʼs gaze roamed the parking lot filled with dozens of four-wheeled vehicles. Luz was ready to trot toward the place where she heard the party-like sounds before Amity turned around and leaned toward Danielle's window.
"Thank you, Danielle," The witch smiled widely, shocking herself at how honest her smile was. What surprised her even more was that she made contact with the green-eyed woman and it was not at all uncomfortable, "I had an amazing time today and I hope we can do it again sometime soon," She added and she was confused when she noticed the older woman blush.
"I'd love that too, Amity," Danielle replied, returning the smile, and she drove off, leaving the two women to party at the Bonfire.
