Emma ran downstairs to the front of door to greet her family. Immediately in front of her was Veruca, Mike, Jose and Aubrey. They all stood at the open door facing towards her. They were in the process of putting their coats away.
"Hey Mom and Dad, where have you been?",asked Emma curiously.
"We were at Aubrey's talent show. The talent show that you WERE supposed to be at.",grunted Veruca.
"And I won first place! I beat everyone!",cheered Aubrey.
She showed off her trophy that she got. Emma smiled as she saw Aubrey holding her trophy.
"Aubrey, do you think you should put it in your room then?",asked Veruca sweetly.
Aubrey nodded in agreement. She ran up the stairs,Mike turned around as he just put his coat away.
"Honey…", he began ,but ,Veruca quickly cut him off.
"Not now, Mike. Why don't you head to the kitchen.",offered Veruca gently.
Mike went silent as he listened to what Veruca said and walked off to the kitchen.Jose turned around.
"Mom?",asked Jose.
"Dear, is it okay that you be in Aubrey's room to cover Aubrey's ears for a sec? I don't want her to listen what I'm about to say to your sister.",said Veruca.
Jose sighed.
"Of course.",he said.
He walked off to go to Aubrey's room. Once Jose was gone, all that was left was Emma and Veruca. They both were staring directly at each other.
"I didn't know that Aubrey's talent show was today…",started Emma.
"I was going to tell you, but, you ran off ! Of course, I figured not to tell you anyway.", scolded Veruca.
"Mom ,come on,I would never miss Aubrey's events.",groaned Emma.
Veruca raised an eyebrow.
"You?Sure Emma ..or you are you just trying to win my approval?",asked Veruca.
"Mom, it's true. If you would've told me that Aubrey's show was tonight, then, I would've come.",said Emma.
"Emma, you were never interested. Whenever we make plans as a family,you never show up. I asked you to come to them,you basically wouldn't. So I figure it's best not to bother asking." ,said Veruca in a huff
"Where were you anyway?",asked Veruca.
Emma was silent. She was unsure whether or not to tell her mom the whole story.that she was supposed to be on a date with Jonah. He never showed up, so Henry accompanied her.
"I was with Henry.",revealed Emma.
"Ah Henry? I remember him well. It's been a while since I last heard that name! How is he?",asked Veruca
"He's okay he's doing good.",said Emma with a smile across her face.
"Well I'm glad .I know it's been a struggle for him, and, especially his parents. He didn't get to graduate from high school but I'm glad that he found a job and he is working to get his GED! I know that his mom is specifically proud of him for going back."explained Veruca.
"Yeah, exactly.",said Emma.
Veruca looked down at Emma
"You never told me what happened between you guys ? You were very close when you were younger." ,said Veruca.
It wasn't easy. Emma went silent. She was unsure about telling Veruca the real reason why her and Henry had stopped hanging out.
"Sorry Mom, got to go!" , she shouted.
She rans up the stairs and into her room leaving Veruca behind.
