Valentino opened fire, and so did Vox. But the Slayer had already dashed out of the way. He shot a grenade from his shotgun. Val barley managed to evade it before it stuck to his couch and detonated. Vel's minions moved in on the Slayer, but he easily blew the first three away with three sequential shots. He finished off the rest with a single sticky grenade that landed in the middle of the charging group. He glanced to see Val and Vox about to open fire on him again.
BANG!
"ARGH!"
The slayer had swapped to his heavy cannon and put a precision bolt into Val's hand which made him drop his Carmine pistol. He immediately dashed to evade another of Vox's blasts. In response, the Slayer put a volley of rounds square into Vox's chest.
"UH-UH-UH-UH-UH-UH!"
The overlord stumbled backwards clasping at his chest. The Slayer knew the bullets weren't enough to kill him. Not yet. He swapped back to his shotgun to launch another sticky grenade at Val to keep him off balance. The Slayer then turned his attention back towards the next wave of mannequins Velvette sent his way. He started with another sticky bomb that took out the first line then cut down the remaining ones with his fists and blade. He was now clear for a direct attack on Velvette. In a panic, Velvet raised her hands and unleashed a shockwave to try to stop him. But the Slayer leapt into the air and dashed right over the demoness. The Slayer landed just as Velvette turned around to face him. Before she could respond, the Slayer slammed a hard right hook across her face, followed by a left, then a hard kick right in her face. Because of her smaller form, Velvette was launched across the room and slammed hard against the door at the end.
Velvette's head was ringing. The punches were bad enough, but the kick really sent her into a haze. If she hadn't had the powers of an overlord, her head would have been knocked clean off her shoulders. She managed to stand up, but she suddenly felt something grab a hold of her. She looked down to see a giant metal claw attached to a chain clasped around her torso. She looked up to see the Slayer being pulled towards her like he was riding a grappling hook. Her eyes widened in terror when she realized what the chain was retracting into.
"OH SH-"
KABLAM!
The Slayer pulled the trigger on his Super Shotgun when he closed the distance. The blast launched Velvette off her feet and sent her crashing through the door. Before the Slayer saw where her body went, he saw Vox readying an even larger electrical blast. Instinctively, the Slayer dashed through the doorway and leapt into the air just as a massive explosion erupted behind him. The Slayer rolled across the floor and landed in a crouch. He looked up to see he had leapt off a stairway balcony and landed right in the middle of a fashion studio. Wardrobes of dresses and rolls of fabrics lined the room. As he stood up, he saw both Val and Vox emerge from a large hole in the wall where the door used to be.
This time though, Val was flying. He had opened his coat to reveal two large moth-like wings. He had his guns ready. Vox leapt off the balcony to land on the same level as the Slayer. The standoff between them lasted for seconds that felt like hours, waiting patiently for someone to make the first move.
Vox made it.
BANG!
The Slayer was once again faster on the draw and put a precision bolt into Vox's shoulder. The Slayer immediately dashed out of the way as Val unleashed a new move. Balls of pink smoke were launched from his mouth and puffed into clouds when they hit the floor. The Slayer kept his distance from the smoke, knowing it was most likely toxic, caustic or both. Val then brought up his guns and opened fire. The Slayer returned fire still on the run, forcing Val to evade. Vox had recovered, so the Slayer used his shoulder cannon to launch an ice grenade towards him. Vox tried to get out of the way, but the blast was too wide, and the ice covered him.
The slayer then dashed to evade another volley of smoke from Val. This time, the Slayer got a bead on the moth demon and put a precision bolt right into Val's chest. He shuttered in the air, struggling to keep himself airborne. When he recovered, Val felt something latch onto him. The Slayer pulled himself up towards Val with his meat hook and, like with Velvette, blasted Val at near point-blank range. Val was launched back, slamming against the large window overlooking the city. He put his hands on the window to stay airborne and gain his bearings. But when he did, he was mortified by what he saw. Turns out the Slayer managed to perform a trick move to pull out his rocket launcher, lock Val in his sights, and unleash a trio of explosives before he even landed onto the floor. The rockets hit their mark one-by-one, obliterating the window and sending Val careening and screaming down the side of the building.
But there wasn't time to go after him to confirm the kill. The Slayer turned around to see Vox had broken free of the ice. The overlord raised his hands and, from above, unleashed a barrage of lightning. The Slayer quickly and fluidly moved around the bolts slamming onto the ground around him. Once he was close enough, the Slayer leapt into the air and launched his meat hook. It caught Vox in the chest and pulled the Slayer towards him. But instead of unloading his weapon's load into him, the Slayer pulled his fist back and swung a brutal blood punch right into the overlord's screen. The shockwave launched Vox off his feet and sent him flying across the room before crashing through the doors on the other side.
The Slayer was about to give chase, but he heard something behind him. He turned around to see Velvette emerging from a pile of rubble. She looked dreadful. Her hair was ruffled all over her face. She was hunched over and she clasped her chest which was entirely drenched in blood. She supported herself on one of the pieces of rubble, panting from exhaustion and agonizing pain. But when she looked up at the Slayer, her pants switched from exhaustion… to anger. Her face contorted, her eyes narrowed and glowed burning red.
"YOU!" she screeched. "YOU! RUINED! MY! DREEEEEEEEEESS!"
A blast of black and red energy erupted around her. When it cleared, Velvette was levitating off the ground and her whole body was encased in a black aura. The only discernible feature was her crimson eyes that leered hard on the Slayer. The red energy formed around her blackened form and dissipated to create a crimson dress. From the dress, bolts of red energy surged to dozens of the dresses around the room. Seconds later, the dresses struck by the bolts had new mannequins wearing them. But these minions emanated with the black and red aura Velvette had. Each stood at attention and sported even more dangerous-looking weapons thirsting for the Slayer's blood.
The Slayer glanced back at Velvette. As he anticipated, she pulled her hands back and unleashed a blast attack which the Slayer easily dashed out of the way of. The mannequins made their advance on him. The Slayer pulled out his shotgun and took out several of them with mixture of fancy footwork, buckshot, fist and blade. Eventually, Velvette sent another attack which the Slayer was ready for. He dashed out of the way towards a pile of debris and jumped as hard as he could. At the top of his jump, he summoned his Sentinel Hammer and slammed it down hard into the crowd of mannequins below. Body parts and shredded pieces of fabric were thrown into the air.
Immediately, the Slayer brought out his cannon, this time with the micro-missile launcher attached. He aimed it directly at Velvette and unleashed a volley of tiny explosives at her. She swopped to her right trying to evade the volley, but the missiles changed course, allowing two thirds to hit their target. The explosions rocked Velvet's body. The aura managed to keep the missiles from doing physical damage, but the force of the explosions still hurt badly. Before she was able to regain her composer, she felt a familiar fist smack the side of her face. But instead of another smack, she felt something far more painful.
"AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGHH"
She looked down to see a gigantic wrist blade impaled right in her gut. She gritted her teeth and looked up at the Slayer. Before he could do more damage, she shot her hands forward and pushed the Slayer away with a burst of her red energy. She grasped her wound as the Slayer skidded to a stop. The wound didn't instantly heal, but the surge of energy Vel forced out of herself acted as a temporary bandage to keep herself from bleeding out.
"YOU LIKE TO PLAY RUFF?!" she shouted in her unnatural demonic voice. "FINE BY ME!"
More bolts shot out of her dress. This time, they surged into the sheets of fabric rolled up on the walls. They unfurled and converged on the levitating demoness. They contorted and attached themselves to Velvette's dress. A second later, her dress had four long new appendages attached, almost acting like tendrils. At the very tip of them, razor sharp daggers shined. Velvette's eyes narrowed on the Slayer. Unfazed, he casually brought up his hand and gestured to her to "Bring it on."
Velvette screamed in wrath as she went on the offensive this time alongside her minions. She hovered forward and swung two of her tendrils towards the Slayer. He dashed out of the way and easily dodged every subsequent attack all the while unloading volleys of bullets into his attacker. Vel's Aura was able to fend off most of the impact of the bullets, but it wouldn't last long if the Slayer kept it up. During their dance, several of Vel's minions tried to join the performance but the Slayer gracefully cut them down. Vel was getting irritated and pushed in for a sweeping attack. But the Slayer leapt into the air and closed the distance on Vel's and unleashed a blood punch on her face. She was launched off her feet, causing her to crash into one of the nearby pillars. She fought the disorienting pain to prepare for the next attack, but the Slayer was already on her. Right hook, left hook, right hook-
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH"
This time, the blade didn't go into her chest. Instead, the Slayer aimed higher. Right into her left eye. Not deep enough to skewer her brain, but enough to destroy her socket and shatter the bone on that side of her face. For a second that felt like an eternity, Velvette was paralyzed with agony. She couldn't move or think. Only scream. But the pain transitioned to rage. She broke through the paralysis and clasped the sides of the blade and with all her power She forced it out and pushed the Slayer harder away. She clasped her destroyed socket and screamed through her teeth. She opened her remaining eye that burned so hard at her attacker. Her face contorted into a look that she was going to destroy her opponent. She roared the hardest she ever had in her whole afterlife.
"THAT'S! IT! YOU! WILL! DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE!"
She didn't hold anything back. Her tendril attacks and her shockwaves sent the Slayer on the defensive. The Slayer evaded each of her attacks while taking care of her charging minions, occasionally getting a few hits on the demoness to weaken her aura. But eventually the Slayer ran out of room to maneuver. The tendrils on her dress finally cornered the Slayer and he felt her shockwave hit him. He was shot back and collided into one of the pillars of the studio. Not as hard as when the Slayer launched his opponents, but enough to disorient him for a second. The tendrils didn't slice at the Slayer this time. Instead, they quickly snaked around his wrists and his boots. He tried to move, but they held him in place. Velvette hovered before him, her glowing eye dead set on her opponent. She would have gladly picked him up and threw him around the room to tenderize him before the kill, but he was too heavy even for her demonic strength. She floated closer towards the Slayer.
"I don't know how that bitch got you to do her dirty work," she said. "But all three of us will enjoy tormenting her and her colleagues after I reduce you to nothing but ash to be scattered on the wind. And when we find your soul here after you die, we will be sure to ensure true pain and suffering for your eternity of damnation."
The aura around Velvette's body flowed to her arms, her bloodied features on her chest and face returning to view. The black energy shifted red into her hands, shaking with the power she was about to unleash. She pulled her hands back and screamed as she brought them forward.
But the Slayer had one last surprise for her.
His shoulder cannon twitched, and a belch of flames erupted right into Velvette's face. The energy dissipated from her hands as she flinched in surprise. It was enough to loosen her grip on his limbs. With his left arm free, the Slayer extended his blade and, in one clean motion, cut himself free from Velvette's tendrils. Before she could bring her aura back up to protect herself, the Slayer retracted his blade and landed a devastating blood uppercut square on her chin. She was launched up into the air, tumbling end over end until she slammed into the wall about, before falling onto the floor while the debris loosened and landed on top of her.
Around him, the rest of Velvette's minions moved in for a last-ditch attack. The Slayer decided enough was enough. He brought out his ballista, charged it up, and just as they were on top of him, unleashed a destroyer blade that bisected the remaining minions. It was now only him and what remained of the female overlord. The rubble covering Velvette shifted. The Slayer put his weapon away and casually walked towards the pile. Velvette was still alive. Only… barely. She managed to push the debris off herself, but it took what remained of her strength and several failed attempts to stand up. Her body was shaking, and her breathing was erratic, like she was on the verge of death. She fell to her knees and hunched over, holding herself up with one hand on the floor. She looked up at the Slayer. His expression through his visor was unchanged from the beginning. But Vel still felt mocked by him. She wasn't going to be humiliated by a human. She was an overlord. Even with her strength gone, she channeled one last spark of energy into her fist, and screamed as she leapt up for one last attack.
Her scream was stopped by a familiar sound of metal meeting flesh. But something was off. She heard a new noise. It was the sound of a gas-powered motor. She looked down to see it wasn't the Slayer's Blade that pierced her vulnerable flesh. It was a chainsaw.
She looked up at the Slayer one last time, his eyes piercing into her own. In that moment, she felt… fear. Never in her time as an overlord had she been afraid of anything. She had always been at the top, insulting and demeaning her employees and disrespecting the other overlords to display her superiority.
But not now. In that moment, she knew what it felt like to be at the mercy of someone who truly had power over her. And unluckily for her, there was no mercy to come from the Doom Slayer.
He revved the chainsaw, and Velvette screamed.
The teeth of the saw sliced through her flesh, spewing globs of her blood and guts into the air. Inch by inch, the saw sunk deeper, and her screams grew louder. It reached her spine. She looked one last time up at the Slayer right as he put on the finishing touch.
With a twist of his posture, he swung the saw above him and launched his victim into the air.
Velvette's top half separated from her bottom, all the while spinning like a top in midair. Her scream was silenced, replaced by the softness of her final breath she exhaled from her now non-functioning lungs. Her body spun around for what felt like an eternity, before plopping onto the ground with a wet thud.
The slayer put his chainsaw away. Silence filled the room. He walked over to examine the corpse of his fallen opponent. Her body twitched with what little life was left as her remaining blood spilled out onto the floor. Her remaining eye stared lifelessly ahead while her face was frozen with disbelief and painful terror.
The Slayer then looked up to see Charlie looking down at him from the balcony that led to the penthouse where the fight started. She gave him a grin and a thumbs up.
The Slayer reached behind him and pulled out a token. Similar to the ones he used to slay the Hell Priests of his world. Only this one was forged with the angelic steel of this world. He dropped the token on Velvette's body. A second later, it vanished. Velvette's corpse discolored, and the twitching stopped. All signs of life after death in her body were gone.
Velvette's soul… was extinguished.
