"Logan, did you know that Rory was related to the Hayden's?"
"Why hello Logan, how are you son? How is work?" Logan replies. "Nice to see you too, Dad."
"Cut the crap Logan, did you know?" Mitchum asked his son, as Logan sat down across from him.
Logan sigh's looking out the window behind his father, he doesn't know why he thought this conversation would not happen and they could just discuss business as planned.
"No, I didn't know. It never came up when we were dating, she didn't have a good relationship with her dad, and I never met him. I saw him once from across the quad at Yale but was never introduced. I haven't seen her since the party to talk to her about it."
"And the Gilmore's never mentioned it?" Mitchum asked, not sure whether Logan was telling the truth or trying to save his own skin.
"Never. I just assumed from the scandal around it, her father had been a staff member- a pool boy or valet."
"Okay, I can't blame you for that. We thought the same."
"Obviously."
"No need to get cheeky." Mitchum said, leaning back in his chair. "Now do you think we will face any repercussions from this?"
"From the knowledge that I dated her?"
"That and how we all, and I'm including you, treated her at the time."
"Honestly?" Logan sighed, running his hand over his face. "I think if there were going to be repercussions it would have happened back when we broke up. I think that they know that this new knowledge alone is killing us. For Mom, to know how close she was to having a top tier society member join the family, opening those few doors she couldn't. For you, to realize the kind of contacts she would have brought in. And for me the knowledge that I was dating someone from society that I loved, and that you should have approved of, and now I'm dating airhead bimbo's. They don't have to torture us, we are doing it to ourselves."
"I don't know whether to be proud of the amount of self awareness you just showed, or angry about what caused it." Mitchum stated.
"It's not like I can do anything else." Logan replied. "Tristan and Rory are happy. I couldn't get her to forgive me when I first messed up. There is no point trying now, when she is happily engaged and living with her fiance."
"You think we should just leave it be?"
"I think that I have no intention of getting involved. Finn is dating, seriously for him, Rory's friend and client, and I would like to just continue the tentative truce that Rory, Tristan and I all have. Tristan helped her move out of my apartment Dad, he knows everything that happened between us."
"So you think I should just convince your mother to get over this?"
"I don't think that there are any other options on the table Dad."
"I saw Shira at the spa the other day, she looked like she had been sucking on a lemon," Francine said, with a laugh as she lifted a mimosa off the proffered tray.
"Did she say anything to you?" Emily asked, setting the tray down before taking a glass for herself.
"No, nothing. A few times I thought she was going to, but I was continually approached by people asking about the nuptials so maybe she couldn't find a break to speak to me."
"What are you telling people?" Emily asked, leaning forward on the loveseat.
"So far I have been telling them that everything is undecided so far but that Rory and Tristan have alluded to wanting something intimate and family only for the ceremony. Setting the expectations for invites to low from that start."
"Do you think they will stick to the plan for something small and intimate?" Emily asked, her distaste for the idea obvious on her face.
"I think we could be lucky to get an invite," Francine said, taking a drink. "I am honestly surprised they haven't come home from one of their trips married."
"Hmm." Emily hummed while taking a drink as she thought. "I wonder what would be better, a small wedding here, or a very small wedding somewhere exotic?"
"Stop thinking of it as something you have to sell to people at the club." Francine said, subtly reprimanding Emily. "This is about what the kids want, that's why they let us plan that big engagement party."
"I know. I just always envisioned planning Lorelai or Rory's wedding. It's hard to let go of."
"I think they will either have a small wedding in Stars Hollow or Hartford, or else they will go away, maybe to Europe, they seem to really like it there."
"So you're telling me, I should just be glad that they aren't going to Vegas or Reno?" Emily asked.
"I think it's looking that way." Francine stated, as Emily's maid arrived to announce that their lunch was ready.
"So have you thought anymore about what you want to do for the wedding?" Tristan asked, pulling Rory's legs into his lap so she was turned towards him on the couch.
"What do I want to do?"
"What do we want to do?"
"Better. Well I think we both agreed on not wanting a big wedding, right?" Rory asked.
"Right. Do we mean family only by that?"
"Well how many people are family only? My Mom, Luke, Dad, Grandma Francine, Grandpa, Grandma Emily, Your Mom, Your Dad."
"That's eight people. If we add in friends, who would we pick? Paris, Doyle, Lane, Zach, Mike and Jake?"
"Still no sign of either of them settling down?" Rory asked.
"None. So that is fourteen plus us?"
"Sounds about right. Would you be okay with that?"
"I would, but would you?" Tristan asked, watching her face closely for any signs that she is lying.
"I would love that. I never dreamed of a large wedding. You know I hate crowds and events. So a small wedding somewhere around here, or would you like to travel?"
"Well if we stay around here are we going to get lots of pressure to add just one more person?" Tristan asked, pretty sure of the answer.
"Oh so much. Traveling then? Within the US or further afield?"
"As much as I think somewhere exotic would be cool, I think if we are bringing Grandparents and parents we should either stay stateside, or look at Europe."
"Europe would also be legal when we returned, as far as I know." Rory said, trying to remember articles that she had read.
"Warm and sunny or is that not a priority for you?"
"It's really not a priority. I think as long as it's mild weather, I don't think anyone would like the extreme heat or cold. We could always go completely rogue and invite everyone to dinner somewhere here in the city and spring a wedding on them?"
"That would work, but I am now tempted by Europe," Tristan whined, leaning over and giving her a kiss.
"I have two European ideas I would really like, three maybe lol." Rory said, looking sheepishly at Tristan before raising one finger to signal her first choice. "One, I like the idea of Ireland or Scotland, it would go with our proposal. Two, Switzerland, in winter with everything snowcapped. Three, the south of France. I loved it when we were there last summer, it was pretty romantic."
"Oh they all sound good." Tristan stated sounding thoughtful. "I think I'd like Ireland or Switzerland. So really that means it comes down to what time of year you are thinking of. Whether we want this year or next. It is the end of May already."
"I was hoping for this year," Rory answered, chewing on her lip while she waited to see what he thought.
"To give your grandma less time to try and talk you into a big wedding?"
"Yes, and well also, I do really just want to be married to you."
"I'm okay with that. More than," he said, leaning over and kissing her softly. "So fall in Ireland or winter in Switzerland?"
"How many holidays do you actually have left for this year? Your job is newer than mine."
"I can check for sure tomorrow. I think I have ten days left. So enough for a wedding but not a very long honeymoon."
"So Rory, are you finally going to tell us what you have gathered us all here for?" Lorelai asked, having looked around their apartment and decided everyone must be here.
"Well-"
"Oh no! You're getting married today aren't you? We aren't even going to get nice pictures to show from this, just look at you!" Emily started to moan.
"Well, now that we have got Grandma's panic out of the way, and also I like this dress!" Rory said with a pout, as Tristan pressed a kiss into her temple.
"No Emily, we are not getting married today. But thanks for letting us know where you would stand on that."
"We gathered you all here so we could have this conversation only once, hopefully. Grandma is kind of right, that it is wedding related. Tristan and I have considered several options, and have decided on eloping the last week of September. We were hoping that the fourteen of you would like to join us." Rory finished with a nervous smile.
"I think you need to tell us where we are joining you before we can make a decision kiddo." Lorelai said, while Chris and Luke laughed.
"Yeah Gilmore, some of us have very demanding careers and can't just take off with no notice," Paris added.
"So we looked into a few options, did you know if you get married in Switzerland it isn't legal here?" Tristan started.
"Oh the Alps, the pictures would be magical, almost like the Romanov wedding I wanted to throw you, Lorelai."
"Emily, you heard Tristan, that wouldn't be legal when they returned." Richard said, trying to head off his wife before she took over.
"Right, so we crossed that off. We finally decided we'd like to return back to Ireland. Bookend the proposal if you want." Rory said, as they watched everyone's faces for how they were taking that news.
"So who wants to come?" Tristan asked with a smile.
