They arrived at the Pine Tree and crossed the boundary to camp easily. Percy held Annabeth's hand until they were inside the camp where they both had to regretfully let go. Percy stopped and looked over his home away from home. It was quieter than he recalled from his first arrival, only because the summer session would not be starting for some time yet. Which also meant they were too early for their quest. That was fine, Percy and Annabeth had other plans to carry out.
They approached the Big House together to find Chiron waiting for them, an unconscious Penny beside them. Argus arrived just behind them as well.
"Well, I have a great many questions, Perseus. Thought I'm afraid they will have to wait. Your mother contacted me and insisted Penny wake up at home where she can explain everything. This is her right. After what you did to both Alecto and the Minotaur, I doubt any more monsters will be rushing to test you either. Just in case though," He looked at Annabeth. "I will ask you to go with them. I get the feeling you would have gone anyways, and I would rather know where you are."
Annabeth gave him a defiant look. Chiron had caught on too much of what was going on, it seems. Percy sighed.
"We'll explain everything when we return. Did Mom give any messages for me?"
Chiron chuckled. "Her main concern was Penny, she heard you were with Annabeth and didn't ask any further questions. I told her that Annabeth is one of our best heroes."
Percy grinned as his girlfriend blushed at the praise. She was closer to Chiron than even her own father, so it was not that surprising his praise pleased her.
"Thank you. We'll see you soon, Chiron."
The old mentor nodded. "I would prefer you all to remain here, but Sally Jackson has the right to explain things to her children, even if only one is learning something new. Do I want to know how far I the future you two come from?"
Annabeth laughed. "Probably, though we need to be tight lipped. Especially since there are ears around, we don't want to hear this information. I really hope they are not listening now."
Percy shook his head. "I saw our query on the way in. He was down by the canoe lake, talking to Silena. I doubt he even saw us arrive."
They both shuddered, recalling the way Luke had first charmed and then coerced Silena into being his spy. They needed to consider more how to handle that.
"Best goes. You got a long trip back to New York."
"I got a better idea." Annabeth grinned. "Come forth! Oh, chariot of damnation!"
*Percabeth-Redo*
Percy was glad that Penny was unconscious as they sped at warp speed around New York. He remembered his first ride and he had only barely been able to keep his lunch down. He had her on his left shoulder while Annabeth was snuggled against his right. The trip wasn't as eventful as last time, the sister that was driving had the eye and soon they were parked outside an apartment building. Percy looked at it in surprise. This was a much nicer place than either of the apartments he and his mom had lived in previously. He had still not plumbed the depths of those memories. He picked up Penny and carried her to the door, which Annabeth opened for him. She was drooling slightly as they entered the elevator.
"Like sister, like brother." Annabeth giggled as she wiped away the saliva. Percy could not help but chuckle as well.
Percy briefly consulted his memories to find the right floor and apartment number. He was confused at the emotions of being happy to return but had no time to review further as they arrived at the correct floor. There, standing in front of the door to the apartment, was a younger version of his mom, smile on her face.
"Welcome home, Percy. And Annabeth as well. Good to see you sweetheart."
They paused, she knew Annabeth and from the look she was giving her, knew her well. Annabeth was not one for tears but her own were glistening as she stepped forward carefully. His mother opened her arms and Annabeth rushed to hug her, now crying openly.
"There, there. You're home now, Annabeth. I'm sorry you had to spend those weeks uncertain if you would be accepted."
Percy coughed, adjusting his stance as he held his sister. "So you came over too, Mom? What about Paul? Estelle?"
She looked up and took Penny from Percy. Annabeth came back to snuggle into his side. "Well, Estelle will be fine with her version of me. As for Paul, he came over with me to his younger body. I see you did not check your memories of things closely. I'm not surprised, I'm sure you feared what Gabe did to your sister. But I never married Gabe in this timeline."
His mother was correct. Now he checked his memories, he had only one memory of Gabe. The man had tried to mug them in an ally and a man with salt and pepper hair had stepped in and saved them.
"Paul, you married Paul earlier in this timeline." Percy smiled in relief. Annabeth squeezed his hand in support.
"That's right. Let's just say we got very luck this go round. Also, we weren't the only two that came back. Blackjack will be looking for you."
Percy sighed. While he liked Blackjack, he was hoping to have escaped having the winged horse call him Boss for the rest of his life.
"Well, that will be helpful. Blackjack will help out tons with what we need to get done. We can save more than one good hero."
His mother nodded firmly. "Oh, Annabeth darling. Paul and I arranged some clothing for you. They are in Percy's room. Even though you're twelve again, I know better than to separate you two."
Annabeth sighed in relief. "I was worried about that. I've been plagued with the nightmares since I came to the past. As has Percy. It will be good to have my security Seaweed Brain close at hand."
Percy sighed dramatically. "I see I am regulated to the same task as a body pillow."
Annabeth playfully kicked his shin, though not hard. "Oh please, body pillows are quiet. You are certainly not. We'll need to come up with some reason for us to share a bed at camp too."
Sally led them inside now. "I'm sure we can think of something. I know Chiron will understand now he knows you're from the future. Just keep it appropriate to your ages."
They both blushed which was enough for his mom to know they understood her.
"Why don't you two go take a nap? Penny will wake up about dinner time and we will have much to discuss."
All too eager, Percy and Annabeth rushed off to their room. They stopped when they got inside. The room was bigger than his room in the apartment in the previous go around had been. However, it was smaller than the room they shared in their own apartment. Still, given they were smaller themselves, they could fit in comfortably. Annabeth was quick to change into clothing better suited to sleeping in and Percy did the same. Years of dating and living together had removed any embarrassment as they undressed. Soon, Percy was laying on the left pillow with Annabeth snuggled against his chest.
"Sweet dreams, Wise Girl." He kissed her forehead.
"Same to you, my Seaweed Brain."
