I love you more than the sunrise,
I love you more than words can describe,
Oh, oh, oh,
You're pure perfection in my eyes
Cody leaned back and read over what he just wrote.
"I love you more than the sunrise?" Oh my god, that's so stupid and cheesy! How is he ever gonna take this seriously?
...But then again, it's not wrong. I really do love him more than the sunrise. Plus, it rhymes with eyes.
Cody sighed and tossed his pen onto his desk. Man, songwriting can be really hard. He had mad respect for those who did this professionally. Well, he already respected them anyway, but now he respected them a little more.
Beside him, Trent looked up from his own half-scribbled sheet music. "You good, man?"
"Yeah, just...having a little trouble."
"Is it anything I can help you with?" Trent squinted at Cody's paper curiously. "I love you more than-"
"Don't read it!" Cody swept his arm across it, blocking it from Trent's view.
"Is that your assignment?"
"No, it's...just a project I'm working on."
"Oh. Okay." Trent smiled knowingly, which only made Cody blush hard. "Well, I'll leave you to it." He promptly turned back to his own work, still smiling.
Cody glanced at the clock. Ten minutes until the lesson was over. Ten minutes until hometime. Freedom was so close.
As much as Cody enjoyed his music class, he still couldn't wait to get out of it. It had been a long day at school, and all he wanted was to go home and relax.
Oh, and work on his little...project.
Cody put the paper away in his folder, and decided to use the rest of his time doing his actual assignment. It was easy enough: create a two-minute song using your voice and the instrument of your choice. Cody had chosen to use the piano. He still hadn't decided on what the lyrics should be about, but he was sure he could figure something out.
When the bell finally rang, Cody jumped out of his seat. He shoved everything into his backpack and, after saying goodbye to Trent, decided to head to his locker to grab a few things.
But on his way there, Cody passedhim. Noah. Shuffling his way through the crowd, a bored expression on his face as usual. Cody stared after him for a moment before snapping himself out of it and carrying on.
When he reached his locker, something immediately caught his eye. A tiny triangle of white sticking out from the gap. It definitely hadn't been there before.
Grasping it with his thumb and forefinger, Cody slowly eased it out until it fell into his hand.
It was a small white envelope. With his name on it.
His heart beginning to race, Cody quickly glanced all around him. Everyone in his immediate vicinity were all acting normal. Beth and Lindsay were standing right next to him, talking about different brands of lip gloss. Duncan was over by the trash can, discreetly trying to carve a skull into it. Sam was leaning against the wall with his face practically buried in his DS.
No one was staring at Cody, watching him expectantly.
He swallowed. With fumbling hands, he ripped the top of the envelope and pulled out the sheet of paper that was inside. He unfolded it and felt his knees grow weak at the first two words:To Cody...
