Three days passed by.
During that time, very little of note had happened. Noah was now extra conscious of the way he surreptitiously stared at Cody from across the cafeteria. He studied him carefully. He noticed a few behavioural changes, however: Cody seemed to be taking in more of his surroundings, sending his own lingering stares towards anyone near him.
Including Noah.
Whenever Cody's eyes passed over him, Noah always averted his own gaze. He couldn't look at his face. He just couldn't.
Never before in his life had he felt so pathetic and helpless. He couldn't even glance up a little? What was the matter with him?
It wasn't just the cafeteria, either. When they sat next to each other for geography class, they didn't speak outside of the customary hellos. They didn't look at each other. They just sat and did their work in a painful, crushing silence.
Noah's heart thumped loudly and painfully. He gently pressed a hand to his chest to quell the pain somewhat. His heartbeat reverberated throughout his entire body, from the ends of his hair to the tips of his toes.
Cody wasn't going to figure it out. No. He couldn't. Sure, maybe Eva and Izzy had been able to figure out Noah's feelings, but Cody was a lot more oblivious than they were. He shouldn't have any idea. Really, Noah had no real reason to be nervous.
Which made it all the more annoying that he was nervous.
