Chapter 1
Storybrooke, Maine
It was supposed to be another day for Storybrooke.
Except this day is different.
The alarm clock sounded off.
8:15 A.M
Beep, beep!
Groaning from the bedroom as a hand reached the alarm clock and tried to press the button off.
Yet moments started to fist her hand to bang it.
It took four times to get it to stop.
BANG!
"Ow." Her hand is bruised.
Opening her eyes and looking up at the ceiling of her room. Her hazel eyes blinked to get rid of the sleepiness. She slowly got up in a slouching but sitting mode.
Her bed hair is proofing and looks like a bird's nest.
Looking at her clock, she noticed something.
8:20 A.M.
'What?'
Her time just started at 8:15, not it went fast to 8:20.
That never happened before.
Yet she felt more energized than ever. For the first time in her life, she is looking forward to this day.
Opening her window curtains and the window.
The cold wind smells wonderful.
She started to smile.
She doesn't know why, but today is going to be different.
Bark! Bark.
She looked back at her black brindle Cairn Terrier with a red bow tie.
His name is Toto. Seeing him jumping around the room means he is happy too. Judging by his wagging tail in a fast motion. He seemed to sense the positive energy from his owner.
"Toto!" She reached to pick him up as Toto started licking and whimpering on her cheeks.
"You know, I feel like I should bring you to work with me today. Hmmm, what do you think? What to go for a drive?"
Hearing the word drive, toto insisted barking noise confirmed that he wanted to go to work with his owner today.
It rarely happened before. She would feed Toto and jump him off to her nice neighbor, Mrs. Shoemaker to babysit him.
But for some reason, she wants to bring Toto with her to work. Quickly got into a shower and dressed herself in different clothes today.
She decided to go for Gangster lady clothes.
This Gangster Lady Costume for girls includes a pinstripe button-down shirt, black pinstripe pants, and black suspenders.
She thought about making breakfast herself, but she noticed it had become mundane to do it today.
"Toto! Come to the front with me! We are eating food at Granny's today." She took hold of the leash as Toto almost ran ahead panting and wagging his tail excitedly.
In Toto's mind. Going with his owner, driving in her car, and getting food from granny's! This is starting to become his favorite day.
She snapped the hook onto his collars and walked out the door.
Driving in Gran Torino Ford 1972 to the main road, slowing up the traffic light, she started to notice the town's clock tower was also moving forward.
'Guess somebody finally decided to fix that dang clock.' For as long as she can remember she did ask Mayor Mills to fix that clock as it made it feel like nothing worked.
However, like always the mayor is a hardcore lady who rules this town with an iron fist.
As the lights turn green, she drives to turn towards the dinner as she parks the sidewalk road. She quickly got out with Toto in her arms.
Granny's morning seemed the same, but the whole townspeople were talking about the clock tower. However, that wasn't the case, it was some picture in the gossip mirror newspaper about a woman hitting the billboard.
Emma Swan was the culprit.
'Emma Swan?' She thought over the name. She remembers everyone's name and they knew each other, but for as long as she could remember she never met Emma Swan.
"Hello, Albertina, what would you like today?" A kind voice spoke, and she turned. Granny is always a kind woman. Hell, she helps her through depression over the death of her mother at a very young age. Gave her first job as a waitress and lived with her to pick up her feet.
Yes, this is Albertina Weaver and she lived here in Storybrooks all her life.
"Hello, Granny. Busy today?" She couldn't help but she looked around as many customers were still coming into the diner.
Granny sighed and nodded, "The busiest than I ever had as long as I can remember." She wiped the counter and looked at Toto.
"Oh, I see Toto came with you today." She petted the dog and Toto licked her hands happily.
"Yes, I couldn't help but notice that I missed yesterday when I was at work. So, I figured he would be my partner for the store to guard." She petted her dog.
Granny laughed at the thought of little Toto being too small as a guard dog.
"So, what will it be today?"
Albertina ordered a French toast, bacon, and eggs, she even ordered a cooked ham for Toto. She left after saying goodbye to Granny. She added, "Say hi to Ruby for him."
They grabbed their breakfast as they walked up to the building where her car was parked. Placing Toto on the ground as she used her keys to open her store.
Jazz Babies Bail
A small vintage fashion clothing store with clothes that came from donations, Albertina used her skills in sewing to fix and stylist the clothes into better light.
Click!
"Come on, Toto. We got to get to work now."
Her shoes clicked onto the wood tile flooring. Toto happily walked inside with her. Turning on the shop's backlights where her sewing machine and fabric linens wrapped around their wood. Laces, threads, and yarns on a hook. That place is her workshop.
Albertina checks whatever location to make sure she has everything. After checking the workshop is in the clear. She went out and began opening the curtains out front. (Note: Think of it as Artie's vintage store from the movie Cruella.)
Putting music in the background that plays, Frank Sintra's "New York, New York."
Toto ate his fill as she laid on the homemade doggie bed for him. Albertina saved her leftover breakfast for lunch as she began her work.
Albertina heard the doorbell sound out.
Ding-Dong.
"Hello, prince or princess welcome to Jazz Babies Bail where we can help find you an outfit that says this one for you," Albertina said her slogan to greet customers.
Dr. Hooper greeted her. "Hello, Albertina." Pongo woofed and panted as he walked up to greet Toto with a lick of his hair which he protested with a yelp. Toto is such a vain dog that likes his hair the way he left it.
He sheepishly showed a ruined button on his sleeves again.
"Uh oh, your coat rebelled against you again." She said with a smile. Dr. Hopper is one of her customers who seems to always have a problem with his coat.
"Sadly, my coat is giving me more hard time to keep it alive." He showed her the sleeves which the patch is ripped off and there is a tear. Albertine put on her speckle glasses to see what needed to be fixed.
Albertina giggled and Dr. Hooper sighed happily at her giggles.
In these memories, Dr. Hopper had no idea when it started. Perhaps, it was when they both found Pongo when he was a puppy behind the back alley on a rainy day. Albertina was scared that Pongo was abandoned or left behind. It was considered too cruel even for her. Archie reassured her that Pongo would be fine once they found the vet.
Since then, Archie has developed a secret crush on her. She is so kind and gentle. Not only that, but she is also beautiful.
Archie wished he had someone to advise him on taking the courage to ask her out, but he chickened out every time.
"I think I happened to have the same color fabric and button. When will you need it back? The end of this Friday will be good enough for you?" Albertina finished examining the coat.
Archie snapped out of his daydreaming.
"Yes, that would be fine."
Albertina checked it in with her cashier and wrote the number ticket and phone number for him to come back and pick it up.
Archie took the ticket. Archie was tongue-tied and simply said, "Thank you. Have a nice day. Pongo!"
Albertina waved goodbye as Archie walked out the door with Pongo.
Archie outside mumbled and smacked his forehead. "Stupid." My God, it was hard for the poor therapist to walk up to her and ask her out.
Archie sighed and decided to return to his office.
Enchanted Forest…
Snow White and her seven dwarves came to the ruined kingdom of Longtrellis.
Snow white gasped and looked in pain as she saw another kingdom burn to the ground and nothing was left.
She came to this kingdom in hopes of seeking refuge and allies with her aunt the Queen.
"Man, did the evil queen do this?" Grumpy looked around. No people, houses are burned, and not a living soul is around.
Doc spoke, "I don't think this was the work of the evil queen."
"You are correct."
They all turned and saw a man in armor.
"Wait!" Snow spoke and said, "This is Sir Reginald Pole, Captain of the guard of my aunt."
"What happened here?"
"Your aunt, Queen Esther was betrayed by that princely bastard…!" Sir Pole sneered at the prince. "He was met to marry Princess Albertina, but he made her suffer by taking a lowly maid Alberta as his true love. That whore convinced few countries to betray the queen and the princess by declaring she is the bastard daughter of deceased King Xavier."
Snow White muffed. That was a lie! Everyone knows that King Xavier loved his queen and would do anything to see her wish come true.
Sir Pole shed tears and continued, "We all fought valiantly, but they locked us in the dungeon, and they cruelly killed our queen. Princess Albertina witnessed the horror of her mother's death and begged the common folks to help, but they didn't they prefer that lowly maid as their queen over their true princess."
Reginald gripped tight on the handle of his sword. He was filled with rage. Yes, Queen Esther was a harsh woman, but she made sure this kingdom was stable.
It wasn't perfect, it was stable.
Happy wasn't so happy as he gave the captain a handkerchief to wipe away his tears. The captain thanked the dwarf kindly.
"That was when they killed her beloved horse gifted by the blue fairy. Princess Albertina called out the Dark One." He grimly told them a tale.
"The Dark One?!" They all gasped.
So, it was the dark one's doing.
Snow White should've known.
"The Dark One burned this kingdom to the ground and the princess avenged her mother by killing that pretender queen in the stomach. Then both Dark One and Princess disappeared."
Snow White cried and stifled her mouth to keep it all in.
Her poor cousin is missing.
No doubt taken by Rumpelstiltskin to do his bidding. Grumpy patted Snow comfort by patting her arm.
Sneezy did not sneeze but blew off his handkerchief with tears.
What an awful story. Princess Albertina did not deserve this.
"If she was gone, how did you get out?" Captain answered the dwarf.
"Lucky for us, the maids from the kitchen came to our rescue and broke us out. They hated Alberta more than anything in the world. My men and I took back control and hunted down the traitors. The castle is still in good condition. Would you like to come here?"
Snow White nodded. "Yes."
They all walked to the castle where she once played as a child. She recalled that the king and queen did not have children for many years as Queen Esther seemed to look at Snow White with such sadness and longing. However, as a child she heard stuff like Queen Esther was a scary woman to be around.
Snow White was scared of her at first, but in reality, she was a tough, but fair type of queen.
And Queen Esther was loving and kind. She even spoils her like she was her child.
Snow White heard the news about Princess Albertina's birth, she gave her a necklace for her baby cousin.
Snow White saw the portrait of Queen Esther, Princess Albertina, but at her side was King Xavier. She had no doubt it was the request from the queen as if she imagined her husband was there with them.
No doubt it was a lie that people said she did not love her husband.
It wasn't true.
Queen Esther did love her husband.
However, as queen and only sovereign ruler, she could not afford to look weak.
She did miss her husband in her way, but she had to be strong for her miracle child to live.
There at the throne where once two seats now has one seat of a ruler.
"Princess, if you like you can sit there." Snow White cannot imagine sitting there. She dreamed of sitting on her father's seat, but she recalled there had been talks that Snow White could have been heir to two kingdoms if there weren't any children.
"Captain," She silently pleaded, but he insisted. "Princess Albertina would prefer you to rule her kingdom than any usurper."
Snow White sighed and nodded firmly. Captain Pole called in the few loyal men of his and maids who survived this tragedy.
They all were surprised, but some wished it was Princess Albertina who had returned.
Captain Pole pulled out his sword and kneeled before Snow White.
"I, Reginald Pole, Sir Knight of the Longtrellis guard, captain of the unit swear to you that I served Princess Snow White for the rest of my days. I do swear by God."
They all bowed before Snow White. They might be a small army, but they all serve Snow White to keep their kingdom alive.
Snow White nodded and questioned, "Tell me, Captain where is the prince who betrayed my cousin?"
She will avenge her kingdom.
No matter what it takes.
Storybrooke, Maine…
Albertina measured the sleeves and wrote down what they needed.
Another doorbell rings as she knows customers are coming in.
"Yes, welcome, prince or princess to Jazz Babies Bail where we can help find you an outfit that says this one is you."
"Umm, hi?" A blonde woman in, a red jacket, jeans, and shoes looked surprised. Albertina noticed her face as she recalled the newspaper. But also noticed Henry Mills was there with her.
"Henry, what do you need today?" She knows Henry is such a sweet boy as he would take hold of people to come to her store to help her get customers. She appreciated it, but it's his dragon lady of a mother who is the problem.
"You said, you are staying here Mom. So, you need clothes, right?" Henry tells Emma Swan.
"Wait, Mom?" Albertina exclaimed at Henry's choice of words.
Bless Henry for his naive mind.
"Yeah, she is my birth mother."
Albertina wide her eyes at such new information. Wow! She did not expect that.
"Okay, well," Albertina waved the side wall where the clothes were. "Come in, Cinderella. And let's have a look at what kind of clothes you need."
Emma then corrected her, "You mean clothes that I want."
Albertina gave Emma the look that said, 'Don't argue with me missy.'
"No, I mean clothes that you need. Cause here in Storybrooke you must be prepared in what you need when it comes to style, comfort, and special occasions."
Albertina is professional when it comes to giving people what they need. I mean, look at the few residents of Storybrooke who loved to shop there.
"Judging by the clothes you are wearing; you are going to need more than that." Albertina gave a quick look as Emma looked at her as if she was the troublesome person.
"Really?" Emma complained to Albertina. What's wrong with her clothes?
"Dior 1955." She picked up a lovely outfit with silver beads still attached and in good condition. "Amazing."
Albertina walked up as Henry looked at the Dior dress. Emma looked at it. 'She's kidding right?'
"Chanel 1950."
Emma guessed it correctly. "Let me guess, Spring Collection?"
Albertina gave an 'ah'. Looks like she won't hate this new resident troublemaker.
"Well, well. Guess you do know your gowns."
She walked up to the window outfit dress. The red dress made Emma remember her bail client similar to that dress.
"Baroness from Longdon, England. From 65 winter collection."
Emma said, "Huh, you collect them."
Albertina walked by her counter where her cashier was. "Someone has to. However, for you as a new resident who is staying in Storybrooke. I can guarantee you 50% today only once you buy a few dresses here plus any other clothes."
Emma denied that. "Oh no, no, no. I am not staying here in Storybrooke's." She was just there to make sure Henry's okay cause Regina gave her a bad vibe. Especially, Granny had no choice but to kick Emma out as Regina ordered her to do.
Henry looked sad and Albertina looked between the two of them.
"I am guessing, Regina's the problem here."
It doesn't take a psychic to guess what Regina is trying to do.
Albertina sighed as she knew Regina scared everyone. Even her cause for some reason Regina downrighted hate her for some reason.
"Hey Henry," She called the boy and asked a favor, "Can you make a quick trip to the pharmacy store and get me a soda and get something for yourself too." She gave me a twenty-dollar bill.
Henry looked at Albertina and Emma's question.
"Yeah, go on. She probably wanted to save me the embarrassment of clothes to try on." Swan helps the lie a little.
"Okay, Can I take Toto with me?"
"Sure kid."
Henry and Toto left the store.
Albertina looked back at Emma. "Am I going to have trouble with you being a criminal or something?"
"Look what Regina said…" Emma slumped at her sentences. Already thinking she was a criminal and a bad influence on Henry.
Albertina waved off and, "Oh relax! I am not accusing you of being a criminal or something. You do know Sydney Glass is not a good reporter. If you are thinking of staying in Storybrooke's then you must understand not to believe what that man said. He is not that reliable."
Albertina offered Emma a seat where the wall was.
"Sydney Glass?" Emma took a seat as she listened to her.
"Yeah, he is more a gossiper than a news reporter. Plus, I do know he has this borderline obsession with getting her attention and pleasing her. Even if it means putting you in a bad light if Regina asked him to."
Emma looked surprised. A borderline obsession of Regina? Really?
Albertina looked at Emma and said, "I know better than anyone what she is. You are not the only one that Regina seemed to hate you."
"Does Regina hate you?" That surprised Emma. Wow, Regina is a stone-cold hard woman.
"Yeah, yet for some reason every time she tries to get me evicted. Mr. Gold ends up rescuing me." She shrugged it off as a no big deal.
Emma looked skeptical.
"Mr. Gold?" That pawnshop seems more like a loan shark yet not one good reputation around here.
Albertina looked at Emma and deadpanned. "Don't worry, I am not stupid enough to trust him. He only saved me because I am the only one who can fix his jacket easily."
And don't forget he gave her a tradeoff of leftover clothes for her to have.
'Not that I would tell Emma that.'
"Look, what I am saying is don't let her push you around. You got a good standing."
"Good standing?" Emma looked tired, but she was willing to hear what advice she could give.
"You are what we call an outsider or visitor. Why not use that? Regina can't put fear or control you like the rest of us poor unfortunate souls here." Albertina looked at Emma.
Emma is surprised.
Is she telling what she thinks she is?
Albertina gave her a smug look.
"Give her hell."
Emma sharpened her eyes in determination and nodded.
She's right.
'She's right! It's time to show her what Emma Swan's made for.' Emma looked where Henry was coming back and said, "Come on, Henry! We're leaving."
"What? But what about your clothes?"
Emma looked back and said, "I realized first I need a place to stay then I will be back for that 50% right, Ms. Weaver?"
Albertina thought back at her offer and said, "If you are going to put a good word to our beloved mayor then I can give you 80% off."
Emma nodded and left with Henry.
Albertina smiled and looked at Toto at the front where he already misses his favorite child.
Oh yes, Emma Swan is going to put in a good message to the mayor.
Right before closing time.
9:00 pm.
It's almost closing time.
Albertina sighs as she cleans a bit and closes the curtains. She went up to flip the sign CLOSED.
She locks the door in front of her store and back.
Toto happily and patiently waited for his owner to finish.
Albertina sighed and walked to her car. She opened the door for Toto's spot in the front.
Clack!
She closed the door of Toto's and was about to get to her driver's door. She then noticed something moving. Silently and calmly, she closed her door and then locked it just in case.
She went to check the alley to see what was going on.
Albertina wanted to make sure no one was breaking into any stores.
A shadowing figure slowly creeps behind her. Albertina paused her steps and then slowly turned her head.
Albertina saw and gasped.
"Hello, Dearie."
Reviews are welcome.
