A/N - I'm back and it's all because of Editor Kay (Thank You Kay)

Brittany heard the door open and looked up as Santana came through with Lucy in her arms. "Hey, sweetheart." Brit said as she got up from her work and moved over to take Lucy out of Santana's arms. "No, mama." Lucy cries out clinging onto Santana and Brittany looks sadly at Lucy for a minute. "I'll put her to bed, if you're alright with that?" Santana says and Brittany looks at her daughter's crying face and nods her head softly at her ex-wife.

"You know where it is." She says and Santana nods her head and moves through the house and heads for the stairs, taking the familiar route through the house she doesn't know anymore. It had been two years since the couple had split and they were finally coming to terms with the broken relationship. For Lucy's sake, they had kept civil and over the last couple of weeks things had become slightly normal again.

Brittany gave her daughter and ex some time before following them up the stairs. "Right, let's get you into bed madam. You clean, teeth brushed?" She heard Santana ask and a giggle later gave the answer. "Okay, now, pick a story and we'll get you all tucked in." Santana says and Brittany comes to stand in the doorway and stays silent as she watches Santana, as she tucks Lucy in and the two smile brightly at each other.

"Right, what book did we pick for tonight then madam?" Santana asked as she settled next to Lucy and grabbed the book her daughter had picked out. "Very good choice." She said, opened the page and began reading aloud.

"A mother bird sat on her egg. The egg jumped." Brittany moved back downstairs to let the two of them read together.

When Brittany heard the stairs creak, she moved out of the kitchen and watched Santana come down the stairs. "Want to stay for a cup of coffee, before you head out?" Brit asks and it takes Santana a moment before she nods, with a soft smile on her face. "That'd be nice." She said and followed the blonde into the kitchen and within a couple of minutes, the two of them were sitting at the table with mugs of coffee wrapped in their hands and sitting in silence.

"I'm glad that you could take Lucy out today. She has missed you recently." Brittany admitted and Santana looked sadly into her mug, feeling ever so guilty. Lucy had stayed with Brit, because she was stable, work-wise, whilst occasionally Santana would up and travel, so they'd worked it out as best they could when they were still in a difficult period. These days it was a little more lax between them, as the icy disposition between them thawed.

The two finished their coffees with a comfortable conversation about Lucy's time in school. Then Brittany escorted Santana to the door. "We're hoping to head to the zoo next week, maybe you could join us?" Brit says softly and Santana smiles and nods. "I'd like that." She says and the women stare at each other, a soft smile on both their faces, "Goodnight San." Brit says gently before Santana turns back and walks to her car.

The two women weren't fixed, but they had thawed out and losing their relationship, shouldn't mean they lose their many years of friendship, especially now they've got Lucy to think of. She's more important than anything and they don't need to be scathing at every turn.
