That same night, A lot had happened. The Paw Patroller was back, Marshall was getting better, and Zuma and Skye were about to confront Lily on their suspicions. Both the canines huddled together outside of her small shack they saw her run into earlier. "I think we should tell Klaus wight now" Zuma suggested, Klaus was more than likely asleep, but this would indeed classify as something more important than beauty sleep. "Fine, but let's grab her first, She might run off if we come back with Klaus." Skye responded.
"Twue" Zuma said before Skye placed her paw over the Labrador's muzzle, urging him to be quiet for a moment. "Shhh Listen" She whispered. They both calmed their breathing, inhaling and exhaling in low quantities so they could really hear what was going on in. Lily was talking, it didn't seem like conversation type of tone, more like talking to herself.
"I reckon they can use these documents, One step close to closing this operation and getting that sweet, sweet retirement, Spying sure is challenging work" Lily said, her voice was muffled through the wall but was still audible enough to be understood. "They, Who's They?" Zuma asked.
"The Sheriff's Department, It's so obvious, she's on a secret operation to spy on the dogs and maybe even us too" Skye exclaimed. "Here's the plan, you go in and grab her whilst I destroy any evidence she may have on us, Who knows how much she's gathered on everyone here".
"You're right" Zuma said, just as they both sudden saw the light in the small shack go out without warning, afterward came no voices from inside. Nothing but pure silence as Skye and Zuma both locked eyes once more sharing a mutual feeling about their next move. Lily was more than likely tired, letting her retirement for the night. Both nodded in understanding as they got up from where they were placed themselves at the front of the old door of the hut. Zuma readied himself before busting down the door, ramming his front paws in the middle of the door, knocking it down fully. "Lily, The jig is up, we know you're-"Zuma shouted out as he stepped inside, it was dark all around unable to see where Lily was. Unfortunately, Lily was waiting.
The feline leapt from the shadows and jumped Zuma, dragging him to the ground in a great struggle in the dark night. "Zuma!" Skye shouted, racing inside to try and help her close friends before suddenly staring down the barrel of a firearm. Lily had gained control over Zuma on the ground, holding down the canine as she stuck out the barrel of a loaded gun right at Skye, urging her not to take another step.
"Just to be clear, this is all self-defense, now start talking" Lily said, technically she was correct. Zuma and Skye just knocked on her door and entered. Skye continued to stare down the barrel before building up the courage to speak up. "As if you'd care, You've done enough spy for the Sheriff's Department and Lou, These are good dogs and Zuma and I will do everything we can to protect them" The cockapoo said, getting a perplexed look from the feline.
"What, I'm not a spy for the Sheriff's Department, I'm not even a spy"
"Lies, We heard you earlier saying that spying was challenging work"
"O-Okay, you got me, I am a spy, but not for the Sheriff's Department" She surprisingly confessed to half the truth. Getting go of Zuma and lowing her firearm. Showing both the canines that she was no threat no longer, letting the tensity of the room dial down. "B-But then who do you mean by 'they'?" Zuma asked, standing up back on his paws.
"The Bureau, that's who" Lily responded, placing down the firearm under a floorboard as well as reaching under another floorboard to retriever something else. "The Bureau, D-Does that mean…. No, Theres no way…."
"Yes way, Special Agent Lily of the FBI, at your service…well not really, It just sounds cool when I say that part" She revealed, pulling her paw from underneath the floor boor, revealing a federal agent badge dangling from a small chain. It was clear as day for sure, The Federal Bureau of Investigation. "This….This is amazing news Zuma" All sorts of thoughts plowed through Skye's brain as she began to think and conceive of multiple plans in her head now that they have the Government on their side, or so she thought.
"It is?"
"Yes, We're not alone, The FBI is helping"
"Woah hold on there, You know who I am now but my mission doesn't change. I was sent on a mission to investigate and dismantle the crime family running Katt County."
"Crime Family?"
"That's right, I'm sure you all know Lou, he's just one piece of the puzzle with the mayor at the helm" Lily said, walking over to a wall, sliding it over to reveal it was fake, behind it hid a whole evidence board. Posted with all sorts of documents and papers and photos stuck up with thumbtacks, some stringed together with coloured yard, connecting to each other.
"I've been on this mission for weeks now, This is my first major mission the FBI has ever put me on. I can't mess this up, This is my chance to really impress the hirer ups in the FBI and even the Department of Justice. Maybe….Just maybe….I could get my photo on the wall in the headquarters" Lily salivated internally over the thought, having her image the being the role model for future agents to come, being the post girl of espionage and success for the bureau.
"Well that and helping us get our friends back, right?"
"Sorry but if it doesn't relate to my mission, That's really none of my business. Sounds like you dogs are on your own in getting back your friends if the Sheriff Department has them captured" Lily coldly said, getting a shocked face from both Zuma and Skye, thinking they were on the same page.
"Y-You can't be serious; Our friends are in some…. some twisted prison, and you're just going to not help us?!" Skye pleaded
"I'm sorry, I really am, But I can't quarrel myself with other issues. My mission is to investigate and take down the cats running this county. Don't let the door hit your hair poofs on the way out, Goodbye" Lily brushed off the cockapoos pleads, seemingly in a heartless fashion. Skye held her head down, suddenly being brushed aside by Zuma. She looked up at the Labrador, who didn't look too pleased to see his friend behind treated like that.
"What makes you think you can talk to hew like that?!" Zuma almost shouted, brushing up close against Lily and down to her level, making his eyes lock with hers. Zuma growled, baring his teeth. Lily backed her head, a bit surprised he would even take it this far. Skye even looked surprised, never thinking Zuma would come to her defense like that.
"And what are you gonna do about it, big boy" Lily responded, testing the Labrador. Zuma's hot breath blasting into the feline's face, knowing she was egging him on to make the first move. "I'll make you wegwet ever joining the FBI and stepping youw paws in this county"
"You got guts to threaten a Federal Agent like that, tell you what though. Early morning after seven, Meet me by the bonfire tomorrow. If I'm going to help you, you're going to help me first" Lily inquired to the Chocolate Lab, Zuma's growl soon after fell flat, thinking less with his heart and more with his brain. Zuma looked back, seeing Skye give a single nod, she found the idea to be fair. If they wanted something, of course it wasn't going to be free. "Fine" Zuma replied, turning around slowly as he began his walk out the hut. "Let's go" Zuma said, brushing up against Skye slightly.
Skye obliged, looking back at Lily to see her give a glare at the two before she broke eye contact. As both left, Zuma breathed a sigh, in the end behind taken back by his own actions. "You didn't have to do that" Skye stated. "Yes I did, Im not gonna sit thewe and let hew insult you like that. I'd nevew" Zuma shook his head, refusing the expect the reality even in his head of Skye being ridiculed and Zuma just standing still.
"I-I'm just surprised you'd do that for….me" Skye emphasized, not really understanding why anyone would do something like that just so she would feel safe and appreciated. "Of course, I'll nevew let anything happen to you…. A-As a friend, O-Of course" Zuma quickly fixed himself, looking away.
"Oh, Right…. As a friend, Yeah" Skye looked away as well, the disappointment in her tone was easily detectable and not one to ignore. Nevertheless, Zuma couldn't tell for sure and didn't want to bet anything on it. So, it never happened in their minds, walking down an incline as they made their way to the Paw Patroller across the small field, walking right over the long dirt trail that the Paw Patroller's tires ran through just to slam into a tree. Moving or not, the large vehicle made a for a good sleep when stationary.
Meanwhile in the Mines of the Mountain Prison, popularly known by Dogs as the 'Concrete Kennel'. All the dogs that had recently arrived were being put to work, hard labour was what each dog has to experience, no matter the size or gender, all the dogs mined away for the precious ores and minerals that the cats wanted, each dog has a small bucket they were given. Not exactly brand new but it was issued to get the job done, as for pickaxes…. well, the cats thought a dog's talons with strong enough. The mines were filled with the constant sound of scraping and clawing away. The pain and numbness it caused was horrific, as well as the repetitive kicking up of dust in the already tightly spaced cavern, making it difficult for anybody to breathe. Except for the Cats who had proper filtering masks strapped to their little snouts.
Chase could feel his paws start to give out, no matter how hard he would push himself and how hard his brain told his body to just stop for a second, he couldn't. He couldn't feel the eyes of the cats patrolling up and down along the mines watching him and other dogs. Watching for a second that if one dog stops, it wouldn't be pretty.
Chase looked over and saw Rocky, having the same issue as well as Brax and Rubble. Brax was a real titan, clawing away as if he'd done this multiple times. To be honest, he more than likely did. He did mention his previous escape, so he was indeed familiar with the whole routine. The German Shepherd could focus on anyone else for long, however it happened as he heard the advancement of someone behind him. Chase turned around to see that cat, not the deputy, but the prisoner cat. He was being led by a cat deputy right beside Chase. "You can dig right here" The guard said, giving a glance over at the German Shepherd but paying no mind.
The feline prisoner, the only cat prisoner in the entire prison, stood next to Chase. The small cat had a small metal tool in his paw, Chase eyed it as the cat struck the rock continuously, digging for the ore just like Chase was. It was quite unusual, none of the other dogs had anything to help mine with, but this cat had something, and by the looks of it he didn't smuggle it in, it was given to him.
Either way, the cat paid no mind the large German shepherd compared to his size, the cat looked depressed just as Brax was. "Pssst, Hey…" Chase tried to motion toward him without looking suspicious. "What do you want" The Cat asked.
"So ummm…What are you in for?"
"I don't want to talk about it"
"Hey, I just want to get to know you, you're kind of the only cat around here other than the guards. You must've done something really bad to end up here with us dogs" Chase pointed out, the cat didn't pay much mind to him after his words however, continuously digging before a guard came between them. His glare was more fixed on Chase than the other.
"This dog bothering you, Tuska?" The guard asked, Chase could hear the buzzing his tail taser whizzing from left to right, clutching his body just in case he got zapped. The German Shepherd's ears perked up almost immediately after hearing the guard reveal his name, Tuska.
"No…Hes not" Tuska said, Chase was lucky he didn't tell anything. If he had said yes, Chase would have felt more than a few shocks. The feline guard eyed Chase one more time before walking off. "So…Tuska"
"Repeat my name one more time and I'm calling him back" He threatened.
"Okay Okay, I get the message" Chase replied, thinking his name was a good start to get but still not enough, fortunately for him Tuska gave in before he did. "I overheard you talking to that Bernese Mountain Dog back in feeding room, you want out of this place…and so do I" Tuska said, Chase heard his proposition, and he thought nothing more of it. "We can work you into our plan, but in exchange, you tell us everything you know"
"Fair trade, I accept" He responded, continuously digging and clawing at the raw ores in front of him just as Chase did. Chase was elated in his mind; it was that bad getting to befriend the cat and gain his moderate trust. Although on second thought, it was going to be a bit hard to sneak not one, not two, but a total of five four legged pets out of this maximum-security prison inside of a mountain. Whatever planning Rocky had, it had to be full proof.
Zuma and Skye awoke bright and early, the sun flash banged their eyes to just how bright it was, it was peaceful they had to admit. All the present sounds came from puppies and kittens playing out in the open, or little birds singing their harmonious sounds in the trees. Skye let out a mighty yawn as they both slowly walked out the Paw Patroller, onto the fine and rich dirt that squeezed in between their paws. As they walked away from the Paw Patroller, back to the tiny village that ran along the river, they could see the small bonfire Lily had told them to meet by.
It was quite the popular site by the looks of it, almost everyone was there. Getting this breakfast in, It was nothing fancy for sure, but it was pretty good considering their already poor conditions of living. "Awwww man, Look who's risen this awesome morning" Klaus said, seeing the Labrador and Cockapoo walk toward the bonfire. Klaus shot up from the ground to embrace both of them in a hug, it was a very thoughtful gesture of love, but their bodies were still getting used to the early morning. "Klaus…you're kind of crushing us a bit" Skye chocked out a bit as she claimed.
"Oh, sorry dudes, Just so happy to see you this morning. Help yourself to anything you see" The feline offered, stepping aside for the two to see the selection. Like said before, wasn't anything fancy. A few pieces of meat here and there and some boiled water here, however it could be worse. "Hey guys!" The two heard a voice, expecting it to be Lily but no, it sounds more male. It was Marshall, laying down with his paw still wrapped in bandage, Doing much better now.
The Irish Setter, Ell, still by his side making sure he was okay as was her duty as unofficial nurse to the Dalmatian. "Marshall, hows the paw dude?" Zuma asked walking over to his friend just to see how he was doing. "Oh, great In fact, watch this" Marshall egged on as he placed all four of his paws firmly on the ground, taking in heavy breaths before slowly pulling himself up. Ell standing right beside him just in case he fell over. Zuma and Skye were both astonished and proud their friend was making a speedy recovery, seeing the Dalmatian keep his ground for a few good seconds before slowly laying back down onto his belly. "Pretty cool right, In fact I walked over here with no help" Marshall asked, Ell could vouch for that statement, even she slightly chuckled at the lack of details. "Well, you did fall down…twice" She stated, making Marshall feel a bit embarrassed.
"Well I got back up on my own, so that's a win for me" Marshall held his head high with a smile, All three couldn't help but smile and giggle. At least Marshal was looking at this with a positive attitude, Ell snickered before sighing enjoying the small break of laughter before she looked at the two canines. "So…what are you two up to?" She asked.
"Oh we agreed to help someone with something" Skye answered, being sure to sound quite dismissive when it came to helping an undercover FBI Agent.
"Oh, what's that?" Ell asked, very interested either way.
"We…don't quite know yet" Zuma replied, just as the two looked at each other. Trying to think of something else to tell the Irish Setter, It made it seem like they were being rude to her by not tell her anything, but in truth, even Zuma and Skye didn't know what they were doing.
"Zuma and Skye, I'm so happy to see you two!" Zuma and Skye looked up see a familiar female cat, bouncing up and down as she made her way over to the two. It was Lily, and to say she was happy was an understatement. Both dogs gave half genuine smiles as the cat hugged the two, tugged them back in the direction she came from. "Heh Lily, I guess you woke up on the right side of the bed" Zuma said, a bit unsure of how to really react to this sudden burst of happiness.
"You both promised to help me gather more herbs for the village's tea supply" Lily wined, sounding like an over elated tween. "Have fun you three!" Ell shouted, waving her paw as the three walked off. As soon as they were away from prying eyes, Lily's attitude made an immediate U-turn. "I hate putting on that act every time I'm around them" Lily gritted her teeth, loathing the fact she had to have such an annoyingly helping personality every time she was around.
"Let's just get this over with, sooner we help you, the sooner you can help us" Skye claimed. "Correct, The mayor and his closest cronies have a meeting once a week in the early morning, discuss all the juicy details about their whole operation. There should be a bunch of them there, and when they talk, It'll be a goldmine to the Bureau. So, we get in, place a few bugs, and get out, easy peasy"
"Easier said than done I suppose" Zuma looked one with concern, knowing sneaking into the Mayor's building was going to be tough, nevertheless as a dog. Skye wasn't oblivious to the obvious fact either, she even looked a bit scared herself, but regardless, It was something they needed to do to get Lily on their side, one step closer to getting their friends back.
