Land Girl Turned Mermaid OC
New teacher Erin is a Mermaid, a land girl freshly turned. An incident at a restaurant reveals her to Rita and Veridia. This is the same Erin as appears in The Day That Went Askew but is just human in that one.
Rita convincing Veridia to go out on a date
R "We should go out."
V "As in out? Among land people?"
R "It will only be a few hours. It will be fun."
V "What do I wear?"
R "You can borrow something of mine."
They go out for dinner. Meet Erin. Find out she's a Mermaid after she gets water spilled on her. Rita finds her and takes her over to their table to meet Veridia
"This is Erin. She's a land girl but like Evie," Rita whispered.
Veridia "Nice to meet you. Please, stay."
"Thank you." Erin sat down. "So are you like me as well?"
Rita "Not exactly. We'll explain it all."
Veridia "How long have you been… changed?"
Erin "A few weeks, it was the last day I was in Ireland I found this cave with a pool and I went swimming under the full moon. Next thing I knew I had a… you know."
R "You haven't experienced a full moon since you turned?"
E "No. Why?"
"Full Moon's in two days," Veridia said.
E "What's the big deal about full moons?"
V "You already said it. You swum under the full moon and changed."
R "The Moon is important in what happened to you. We'll explain this all somewhere we talk can properly."
"Can I just say one more thing about this?" Erin asked.
Rita looked to Veridia. Veridia nodded.
E "I'm glad I've found people like me, in more ways than one. I've been feeling alone since I turned and I've been struggling. A lot."
R "We'll help you."
Rita and Erin are walking from the school back to Rita's house to fill Erin in on all things Mermaid
E "How long have you been… a Mermaid?"
R "Not here. You don't talk about that in public, it was risky enough in the restaurant. We'll talk once we get to my house."
Erin nodded. She had no idea what to say. What do people usually talk about?
"Busy day?" she asked. Her timetable was relaxed for now but she's been told by various other teachers that it would quickly change.
R "So busy. We're still under staffed so I'm still covering the Spanish class on top of everything else."
E "Isn't there anyone else who can do the Spanish class?"
R "There is no one qualified. I'm not even qualified but I've spoken Spanish most of my life which makes me more qualified than anyone else."
E "You speak Spanish?"
R "Claro que si. My mother was Spanish.
An alternate discovery scene. Erin is splashed at her work and runs into a random office to transform. It ends up being Rita's office and Rita sees her. In this version Erin had been a Mermaid for 3 months rather than less than 1 month in the previous discovery scene at the restaurant
The cold water splashed down her back. The student gasped out an apology in a strangled voice.
"I'll be right back," Erin ran off. She had no idea where she was going. The hallway had doors on each side. She opened a random door to the right and prayed no one was inside. The door shut as she toppled over. She hit the carpet as her tail formed.
She was in an office.
The door opened. She froze. She was lying there tail fully in view. She'd only been a Mermaid for three months and now she was going to expose herself.
Erin falls under the Moon Spell. In this scene Rita and Veridia are not together. I believe when I first wrote this it was set before the Pod came back and therefore Rita and Veridia were not together.
Erin broke away giggling.
"Did you see the Moon?" Rita asked.
"Maybe," Erin giggled. She stepped in again.
"No," Rita stepped back. "You're under the Moon Spell."
"That doesn't matter, " Erin said, giggling slightly.
"It does. You're not in control."
"I don't have to be control to know what I want, and I want you."
"You do have to be control Erin. Now you need to sleep off the Moon Spell. If you remember anything about tonight, we'll talk about it tomorrow."
"I don't want to sleep, at least not alone."
"Why am I in your bed?"
"You got hit with the Moon Spell."
Erin's face fell.
"What did I do?"
"Not much," Rita said, "you did..."
"What? What did I do?"
"You kissed me."
"Oh no. I - I am so sorry, I don't know why I did that," Erin pulled the duvet up over her head.
"It's okay. In all honesty I wanted to kiss you."
Erin pulled the duvet down.
"You did?"
"I mean, yeah."
Erin smiled. The girl she liked actually liked her back. That was a first.
"I wasn't sure if you liked girls in that way or not. I was gonna ask but I saw the picture of you and your fiance and I just sort of didn't..."
"I'm bi."
Erin just nodded.
"So did I do anything else last night besides kiss you?"
"Do you really want to know?"
"Based on your tone I don't think I do, but I also want to know. So what did I do?"
"You tried to convince me to sleep with you."
"Oh my god," Erin pulled the duvet back up, "I am so sorry! I don't usually do that, only when I'm drunk, I'm sorry."
"Being under the Moon Spell is like being drunk. You do things you wouldn't let yourself do in your normal state."
"I messed things up with us didn't I? I mean kissing is one thing, but coming onto someone is a complete other."
"You didn't mess things up. I said 'no' because you were under the Moon Spell. You can consent to anything in that state."
"If it had been just a normal night, would you have said yes?" Erin asked.
"I mean maybe, but we haven't talked about anything like that. We only just started to acknowledge any feelings."
"Feelings?"
"I like you, in a more-than-friends-way."
Erin swallowed. The girl she liked really did like her back.
"I like you in that way too. Although I think you already guessed that..."
"It was a bit obvious."
Erin pulled the duvet town again. If there was a chance for a relationship, she had to try.
"Would you like to get dinner sometime?" Erin asked.
Rita smiled.
"I'd like that."
