The Marine Park is home to a lot of Mermaid mishaps

Mimmi wanted a job so she went to Rita to ask about it. Set in S2, the episode where Mimmi gets her job

"Rita...what do you think about me getting a job?"

"It would be a good idea, it would give you something to do while Zac and Evie are at school, and I wouldn't have to keep giving you money."

"What about the Marine Park? Dr Ross was saying there were vacancies..."

"Mimmi, the Marine is not the best place for you to work. There's too much water -"

"I'll be careful, I can work away from the dolphins and the pools, and there's water everywhere on land."

"Especially at the Marine Park. It's not just the dolphins, there's kids running about with drinks and if it starts raining you're outside with nowhere to hide."

"Please Rita. I really want to do this, and we need to fit in. Sirena works at the cafe, why's that different?"

"She's singing, she's not in a dangerous environment and she knows the cafe, she knows what to do if anything happens."

"Please. I can give you daily updates on your friend Heidi."

"Or how about you tell me what this is really about?"

"Ondina thinks I can't do it, I just want to show people I'm not hopeless, that I can handle the land world now that we're cast out."

"If there is even one incident involving you and water at the Marine Park, you're leaving. Deal?"

Mimmi grinned. "Deal. Can you help me with this form?"

"Where did you get that?"

"I emailed Dr Ross and asked him to send a copy."

"And you're worried people think you can't handle land. Of course I'll help. You can stop by later and hand it in."

Dr Ross asks Rita's help with a dolphin. This got adapted to become the scene in The Camera Never Lies where Dr Ross sees Rita as a Mermaid in person for the first time

"Ms Santos!"

Rita turned around to see Dr Ross.

"Doctor Ross, hi. I was looking for Mimmi."

"She's on her break right now but she's usually near Heidi's pool. I can walk you over if you want?"

"Sure, thanks."

"If you have a minute though, we have a new dolphin, he arrived last week from a facility upstate. He's incredibly unresponsive and he's not eating. Nothing we've tried has worked. Would you mind maybe having a look?"

"I don't think that's the best idea."

"It will only take a couple minutes, please?"

"I guess."

The dolphin swam listlessly just below the surface. He dove under when they approached him.

"How long has he been here?"

"Since he arrived. He was up in (a different aquarium) but didn't get along with his tank mates and they had no free space so he got sent here. He was a bit bashed up when he got here."

"Poor thing. What's his name?"

"Hector."

Hector surfaced in front of them. He chittered excitedly.

"That is the most enthusiastic thing he's done since he arrived."

Rita kneeled down.

"Hi there,"

Hector squeaked and clicked.

Rita mimicked the dolphin's clicks.

"How are you doing that?"

"It's just a trick I learned. They seem to like it when you try and speak like them."

Hector let out a loud stream of squeaks.

Rita clicked back in response.

"Well it seems to have worked."

Hector dove under the water and swam toward the centre of the pool. Rita stood up.

"Really though, how are you doing that?"

"I just spoke to him. I spent a lot of time out at sea when I was younger, my parents had a yacht and there we saw wild dolphins nearly everyday."

"There's something more-"

Hector launched himself out of the water and landed back down with a splash, showering them both with water.

Dr Ross laughed, until he noticed the look of pure terror on Rita's face.

"Are you okay?"

"Are there any cameras in here?"

"No, the whole system has been down for about a year. Wh-"

Rita dove into the water.

A Mermaid has been caught and is being kept in the Marine Park after getting injured. Dr Ross is involved in looking after her

The Mermaid didn't fight. She didn't speak. Didn't eat. Didn't react to anything. She barely moved. She just stayed under the water as far as he could tell. Currently he was one of two who knew about the Mermaid. The official records would show a dolphin.

Dr Ross opened the door to the room containing the tank usually used to hold dolphins not able to swim. The Mermaid had her head turned away from him, her dark hair obscured her face. From what he could see her wounds appeared to be healing.

He walked across the tiled floor and stopped a few steps away from the tank.

"I'm not going to hurt you. I do need to check your cuts though."

He wasn't sure if she would hear him or understand him. She didn't give any indication of either.

"You need to eat at least."

He stepped forward and rested his hands on the edge of the tank.
