Having finally escaped the protesters, Chris, Chuck, Amy, and Tanaka raced inside the living room and slammed the door shut behind them. But it was no use, as the protesters break down the door anyway. Cream clung to her mother.
Ella sheltered Chris as the protesters surround them and Sonic's friends.
"Where's Sonic?!" Jerome asked and the other protesters shouted their agreement.
"She's not here, so go away!" Chris said.
"Then tell us where she is!"
"We know you think she knocked those towers over." Tails said.
"But she'd never do that!
"Yeah, don't forget, Sonic's on our side!" Chris said. "At least, I think she is... The only one Sonic is against is..." he said to himself. "Dr. Eggman! She'd do anything to beat Eggman!" he said shocked.
"Yeah, right!" Jerome said. "He's just trying to protect her! Let's get 'em!" he said to his other protesters.
"All right, back off!" Amy said and drew her hammer.
"Amy!" Chris said and with one mighty swing, she smashed a hole in the wall behind them with her hammer, then points out the hole.
"Go!" she said and everyone headed out through the hole.
They were shocked to see that the protesters were outside too. Suddenly Sam's car roared into the driveway, causing the protesters to back away. The other S-Team cars had also arrived. Sam spoke through a voice amplifier.
"All right, everybody, listen up!" he said and opened his hatch. "If any one of you yahoos lays a finger on them, you'll have to deal with me!"
At his words, the protesters left. They sighed in relief.
"They're leaving." Chris said.
"Ah... Goodness, that was certainly a close shave." Ella said.
Then Sam got out of his car and removed his helmet.
"Looks like the S-Team showed up just in time." he said and walked over to Chris. "You doing okay, buddy?"
"Yeah..." Chris said. "Oh, Sonic... It can't be true... It just can't be!" he said to himself.
Meanwhile Sonic sped toward another Mirror Tower.
"Here goes another one!" she said and spun through the Mirror Tower, destroying it.
Then she cockily rubbed under her nose.
"All right! Bulls-eye!" she said smirking.
At the White House Eggman pounded the President's desk.
"I'm warning you, Mr. President, Sonic will stop at nothing. Nothing! She must be eliminated!" Eggman said.
"Now, please don't get excited, Eggman. Just calm down." the president said.
"Calm down? How can I be calm with this menace on the loose? I've worked hard to bring light to your people, but all Sonic wants to do is stop me!"
"Yes, I believe you're right. She's a public threat. Instruct my commanders that I want Sonic stopped immediately!"
"Yes, sir!" Christina said while Eggman smirked.
'You don't have Sonic Underground with you this time Sonic. You're on your own now.' he thought.
Soon, an army of GUN Hot Shot robots march down the streets. A GUN helicopter containing Topaz took off and Rouge flew alongside it.
Back inside the White House, the President and Christina were watching the footage of the Hot Shots. Eggman stood nearby, with a sinister grin on his face quietly laughing.
"That gasbag sure is gullible, isn't he?" he said.
"He sure is, right, Bocoe?" Decoe said.
"Heheh. Sonic is finished." Bocoe said and they both chuckled, then noticed something outside.
Meanwhile all across Station Square, the people were wearing Eggman-themed shirts and cheering for Eggman.
"Eggman! Eggman! Eggman! Eggman!" they said.
Back at the White House Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe appeared on the front porch to see a crowd of adoring fans.
"Thank you all! You're all very kind!" Eggman said.
"Isn't it funny, Bocoe? Who would have thought this would ever happen? Now Dr. Eggman is the hero, and Sonic is the bad guy!" Decoe said.
"I'm so happy I could blow a fuse!" Bocoe said.
Laughing, they waved to the crowd.
In the GUN helicopter Rouge suddenly fell something in her head and started to plummet out of the sky.
"What is it, Rouge? Is the noise from the chopper blades getting to you?" Topaz asked while Rouge managed to regain control of her flight.
"I'm okay, but I'm sensing something weird." Rouge said and dove down toward the ground.
"Follow her!" Topaz said to the pilot.
The helicopter followed Rouge down toward an outpost of some sort.
Meanwhile at Helen's house Helen was inside, looking out the window at the darkened neighborhood.
She sighed.
"I miss the light..."
Knuckles was walking by outside when he saw Helen.
"Poor little kid..." he said and kept walking.
Then several people ran up to him.
"Knuckles!" man 1 said.
"We got a really big favor to ask you." man 2 said.
"Favor?" Knuckles said confused as people kept gathering around him.
"If Sonic keeps knocking down the Mirror Towers, we'll never get out of the dark!" a woman said.
"She'll listen to you." man 1 said.
"Help us." man 2 said.
Back at Mirror Towers Sonic ran toward another Mirror Tower. A Hot Shot flew after her and fired several missiles at her, which she easily dodged. Two GUN Laser Hunters appeared in front of her. One of them fired at her, but missed as she leapt on top of the first one. The second Laser Hunter fired at the first, destroying the head. Sonic hopped onto the second one as the first fired at the second, destroying it as well. The Hot Shot opened fire at Sonic.
Sonic destroyed the Hot Shot with one swift kick, creating a brilliant explosion behind her as she kept running.
"Okay!" she said and spiraled up the Mirror Tower and destroyed it.
Back in Station Square.
"Only you can stop Sonic from knocking down the towers." man 1 said.
"Please, Knuckles. We don't know who else to turn to." man 2 said.
"We're begging you." the woman said.
"We're counting on you, Knuckles." people said and Knuckles closed his eyes for a minute before opening them again.
"All right. I'll give it a try." Knuckles said.
"You'll really talk to him?" man 1 asked.
"Thanks, Knuckles." man 2 said.
"He's gonna do it!" man 3 said and gave him a fist pump.
"You're the best, Knuckles." someone said.
Knuckles clenched his fists in anger.
"You've gone too far, Sonic, and I've got to stop you." he said to himself. "As much as I don't want to."
'What did she do?' he thought.
There was a part of him knowing something wasn't right.
Outside Thorndyke Mansion a depressed Chris was sitting alone by the pool.
"Hey, Chris..." someone said so he turned to see Tails and Amy in the doorway.
"Is something bothering you?" Tails asked and Chris rubbed under his nose.
"No... I'm fine." he said and they headed inside.
"You haven't been yourself lately." Amy said.
"Me?... Uh... Well... One part of me says that Sonic could never do the things she's doing... But, well... I just don't know what to believe anymore..."
"We know you think she knocked those towers over." Tails said in a flashback.
"But she'd never do that!" Amy said in a flashback.
"I wish I could have total faith in Sonic, but I just can't understand what she's doing." Chris said.
"If you want to know how to have faith, ask Amy." Tails said.
"It's easy!" Amy said.
"Maybe for you..." Chris said.
"Listen. We don't know her as good as Knuckles but we're sure there's been lots of times when Sonic did something or didn't do something that made me wonder why I ever liked her. But in the end, she always comes through for me. She may do crazy things and she may do stupid things, but she never does dishonest things. That's why I'll always have faith in her!" Amy said.
"Amy's right. I always trust Sonic. It is easy! I do have faith in her!" he said to himself. "Thanks a lot, Amy!" he said to out loud.
"Sure! Any time, Chris!"
"Come on, Tails. Let's go find Sonic." he said and Tails nodded.
"Am I good or what?" Amy said and then the X-Tornado soon took off.
"Hang on, Sonic. Your friends are on the way." Chris said to himself.
Meanwhile Knuckles waited behind a rock near one of the Mirror Towers not sure if this was such a good idea. Then he saw a dust cloud in the distance, followed by Sonic barreling toward the tower.
"At last..." he said.
'Even though I don't wanna do this.' he thought.
Three GUN Hawks emerged from hiding and targeted Sonic. They blast at him, but he kicked them aside and skid to a stop in front of Knuckles.
"Hey, Knuckles. Good to see you, old buddy. What's up?" she said.
"This..." he said and tried to land a flying punch on her, but she dodged.
"Hey!" she said and landed opposite of him. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you are trying to pick a fight!"
"Right!" he said and punched him backward.
"This is no fight if that's all you got!"
Knuckles attempted to punch her again, but she backflipped and struck him with a flurry of kicks, which he blocked. She landed on a rock which he shattered with a punch, but she kicked him back before proceeding to chase him up the cliff.
"Come on!" he said. "I'm gonna teach you a lesson, Sonic!"
They struck each other at exactly the same time.
Outside Eggman's base GUN agents were attempting to break in. Topaz tried to dig under it, while Rouge tried to kick a hole in the top.
"No luck! It doesn't look like there's any way in, Rouge." Topaz said.
"That's too bad, 'cause this looks like the power station." Rouge said then saw something glowing on top of the base.
Back at Mirror Towers the X-Tornado arrived as Sonic and Knuckles continued their fight.
"Look down there! Sonic and Knuckles are fighting!" Chris said.
"That's news." Tails said.
Sonic and Knuckles hit each other again, and took the blows from each other, sending them both flying backward. They panted.
"Wanna call it quits?" Sonic asked.
"Not until I make you pay for the damage you've done!" Knuckles said and they started fighting again.
The X-Tornado converted to X-Cyclone mode and landed between them. The hatch opened.
"All right, you guys, cut it out right now!" Chris said and leapt onto the wing of the X-Cyclone.
"Don't interfere!" Knuckles said.
"Sonic!"
"Hey, I'm all for keeping the peace, pal. It's Knuckles who started it." Sonic said.
"You bet I started it! Do you ever stop to think about the trouble you're causing innocent people? Do you?!" Knuckles asked.
"Huh? What trouble?"
"Okay, that's it!"
Suddenly several floodlights shine on Sonic, courtesy of the GUN Hot Shots surrounding them. A GUN Captain spoke into a loudspeaker.
"Sonic the Hedgehog!" the captain said.
"What's going on?" Chris asked.
"Stay where you are, Sonic! We've got you surrounded! Just turn yourself in quietly and there won't be any trouble."
The Hot Shots' crosshairs lock onto Sonic.
"Look out!" Chris said.
"I'll take care of 'em!" Knuckles said.
"Knuckles, no!"
Sonic calmly walked up to the GUN jeep.
"Hey, hey. Chill out, everybody. Let's all stay calm." she said.
"You stay calm!" Knuckles said.
"Knuckles!" Chris said.
"Wake up, kid! Don't you know it's Sonic who's been knocking down all these towers everywhere?"
"Yes, I know." Chris said and found no resolve. "It's just... Well I have faith in Sonic! And if she's doing it, there must be a good reason!"
"Oh yeah? Well, what good reason could there be? You tell me! I'd like to hear just one!"
"I'll give you one, Knuckles. Up there!" Sonic said pointing to the Egg Moon and everyone followed her gaze. "There's something about that Egg Moon that's been bothering me."
"There's much about you that bothers me!" Knuckles said approached her, but he held up his hand.
"If you give me a chance, I can explain." she said then leaned closer to him. "And that's an order as princess. I'm sure she would be furious at you for hurting me to." She said and he stood there for a second confusing everyone but did as told knowing she's right.
"Well, what is there to explain? The Egg Moon won't move until it gets fixed. We know that."
"Maybe you do," she said. "but I know differently."
"What?"
"Lemme give you a little astronomy lesson." she said. "If the Egg Moon was really standing still, it couldn't block the sun all the time."
"Hey, that's right! It only looks like the Egg Moon's standing still 'cause we're moving too!" Chris said.
"And there's one more thing you can't forget. This planet and the moon are both revolving around the sun." Tails said and Chris tried to think about it, but got frustrated.
"Aahh! I'm confused!"
"Chris, in order for the Egg Moon to block the sun, it's gotta be moving too."
"Eggman's been controlling it so he could con everybody into buying those silly Sunshine Balls he invented. It's just a cheap get-rich-quick scheme." Sonic said.
"That lousy...! And everybody thinks he's the big hero!" Knuckles said.
Outside the White House Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe continued to wave to their adoring fans.
"Just listen to those cheers, Doctor." Decoe said.
"Doesn't it make you feel good?" Bocoe asked and Eggman briefly pretended to cry with joy.
"It's all going just as I planned." Eggman said and Decoe and Bocoe looked at each other in surprise.
"What do you mean by that, Doctor?" Decoe asked.
"Don't tell me you metallic meatheads think that this hero act is for real. Why, I planned this crafty little coup right from the beginning!"
"You did?"
"Certainly I did! Look closely at those yahoos down there."
"Eggman! Eggman!" the crowd said with images of Eggman in their eyes.
"They look like they're in a trance." Bocoe said.
"Here's my secret. Every Sunshine Ball emits a hidden subliminal message that compels everyone who has one to hail me as their hero." Eggman said.
"You mean all those people down there are hypnotized?" Decoe asked.
"To think you are good?" Bocoe said.
"And that's not all. The Egg Moon is in place, and ready for Stage Two." Eggman said and laughed. "The Eggman Empire is nearly here." he said and burst out in laughter.
"Ooh, we are not the good guys after all." Decoe said.
"Oh well. It was fun while it lasted." Bocoe said.
At Mirror Towers.
"So Eggman's no hero." Sonic said.
"Why didn't you explain this before you knocked down the towers?!" Knuckles asked angry.
"I thought it was obvious." she said. "I can't help it if you're slow." she said smirking a little.
"Watch it!"
Topaz and Rouge were standing nearby.
"Now what?" Rouge asked and Topaz picked up her radio.
"This is Topaz. I need to speak to the President immediately." Topaz said on the radio.
At the White House one phone call later, the President placed the phone down looking very stressed.
"Mr. President. What is it, sir?" Christina asked.
"Doctor Eggman." the president said and turned to see Eggman, flanked by Decoe and Bocoe, sitting in the President's seat.
His feet were up on the desk.
"He's tricked us again!" he said and Eggman laughed.
"You've found me out, eh, Prez?" Eggman said.
"You've made a fool out of me for the last time, you hear?"
"Ha! From the sound of the crowd, I'm the hero and you're the fool, Mr. President!"
"This is terrible."
Eggman jerked his thumb out the window behind him, where all the people were still cheering for Eggman.
"Just listen to those numskulls. They're calling for me to be their new leader." he said.
"But... what about me?"
"You, Mr. President, are my hostage."
At Thorndyke Manor Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Chris, Topaz, and Rouge were gathered in the garage.
"So now what do we do?" Chris asked.
"Well, I say If we can't destroy the Egg Moon controller from down here, then we'll just have to get rid of it from up there." Rouge said.
"Well, what do you say, Knuckster?" Sonic asked.
"My name's Knuckles, wise guy." Knuckles said. "You know that." he said while Topaz and Rouge backed away from him.
Sonic already knew he was feeling guilty about what he did.
"Hey. Easy, boy." Rouge said.
"If I may, I would like to pilot." someone said so they turned to see Tanaka in a spacesuit.
"Works for me."
Rouge sighed.
Meanwhile the police were gathered outside the White House crowd.
"It's no good, sir! We can't get through. There are just too many people out here!" a police officer said on the radio.
Elsewhere one of the cement blocks in one of the hallways was pushed in, and it fell inward. None other than Mr. Stewart crawled through the hole.
"Homeroom, I'm inside and starting the search." he said on the radio.
In the White House the President and Christina were bound and gagged as Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe draw on small scraps of paper.
"Perfect." Eggman said and held his paper resembling a new currency. "It's the new Eggman dollar bill."
"That is nice, Doctor, but I've made a Bocoe 100-dollar bill." Bocoe said.
"I have got a Decoe 1000-dollar bill." Decoe said and Eggman angrily threw his "egg bills" into the air, causing them to sweatdrop.
"Keep your two ugly mugs off my money!" Eggman said.
Suddenly the X-Tornado crashed through the White House wall, narrowly missing Eggman. Sonic leapt out of the X-Tornado.
"Let's go, Eggman. Your little political party's over." Sonic said.
"Gah. Sonic." Eggman said and grabbed the president. "Stop there!"
"Yeah, right!" she said and approached him.
"I warn you. One step closer and he's finished." he said then smirked. "Just like them years ago." he said causing her to freeze and see what happened those days.
"Careful you don't squeeze the air out." someone said.
Eggman turned to see the President and Christina standing there completely free.
"Oh no!" he said and held up the dummy of the President he thought was the real one.
Mr. Stewart was perched right outside the door.
"Mission accomplished." he said on the radio.
"Nice work!" a back to normal Sonic said and sped toward a now-frightened Eggman, holding the dummy in front of him like a shield.
"Keep away!" he said.
But the dummy was shredded to bits, and he was sent barreling out of the White House.
At a shuttle Tanaka was piloting Topaz, Rouge, and Knuckles to the Egg Moon.
"You're amazingly good at this, Mr. Tanaka." Topaz said.
"As a butler, one must have the skills to do more than simply answer doorbells." Tanaka said.
Rouge, had been watching the radar up to this point, and turned around. Knuckles was thinking about what he had done to his best friend.
"Okay, Knuckles, hit it." she said and Knuckles was free-floating in space.
"Here goes!" he said and disabled the signal on the Egg Moon, causing the moon to orbit the earth normally once again.
Then sunlight returned to Station Square once again.
At Helen's house Helen's parents wheeled her to the window.
"It's back, honey." Helen's mom said.
"Yes... and it's still beautiful." Helen said.
In Thorndyke Mansion living room Ella, Chuck, Cream, and Vanilla fired the party poppers.
In the shuttle.
"We should watch the sunrise from here some time." Tanaka said.
"We should!" Topaz said as Knuckles returned to the shuttle.
"That's that." he said and noticed Rouge's depressed look. "Hey, what's the matter, Rouge? I thought you'd be pleased."
"Eh... I liked this place better when it was in the dark." Rouge said.
At Station Square Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe were on the run.
"I liked it better when we were heroes!" Decoe said.
"Quiet. Just keep running. They're after us." Bocoe said.
They stopped when they see Chris standing in front of them. He was holding a sign that says "Yes!" on one side that pointed to the left, and "No!" on the other side that points to the right.
"Question one: I first met Sonic the Hedgehog when she fell into my living room. Yes or no?" Chris said.
"No!" Eggman said and they ran in the appropriate direction, and stopped again when they saw Tails holding a similar sign.
"Next one: The X-Tornado can fly more than 300 miles an hour and can withstand attacks by changing into Battle Armor Mode." Tails said.
"Yes!" Eggman said and ran in the right direction to see Amy holding another Yes or No sign.
"Yes or no: Sonic says I'm the prettiest girl in the whole world." she said.
"No way, José!" Eggman said and followed the sign.
"Well, you don't have to rub it in..."
They stopped one last time as they saw Sonic holding a sign. But instead of Yes or No, it depicted the images of Eggman and Sonic.
"Just two more to go." she said. "Question one. Who defeated you years ago?" she asked and he growled.
"Sonic Underground." he said.
"Correct. And the last one."
"Think carefully, Doctor. If you answer this one correctly, you will be the big winner!" Bocoe said.
"Don't worry. With my exceptionally high I.Q., I'm bound to get it right." Eggman said.
"Who's the coolest guy around? Me or you?" Sonic asked.
"What a ridiculous question! It's me, of course!" he said and followed the direction the Eggman image was pointing.
A giant concrete slab fell on Eggman's head, knocking him out.
The police were upon him in a heartbeat. Handcuffs were snapped onto him.
Eggman, Bocoe, and Decoe were soon locked in the back of a prisoner transporter.
"I'll be back." Eggman said. "You know what I can do hedgehog!"
"And to think this morning we were flying high..." Bocoe said.
"Now look at us - jailbirds!" Decoe said.
"You fools! Let me out of here!" Eggman said.
The prisoner transporter's doors shut, and it drove away.
"From a big hero to a big zero." Sonic said.
"Sonic! Sonic! Sonic!" they crowd.
Then she took off running and Tails, Amy, and Chris looked at each other.
"Looks like Sonic's the real hero, but we knew that all along." Chris said to himself. "Didn't we?"
