"Hey, Emel... Wake up!" someone said and it opened its eyes to see Bokkun looking at it.

However, its view is blurry.

They were inside Eggman's old base, and Bokkun was speaking to a robot.

"I said wake up! You can hear me, can't ya? Turn yourself on! What's the matter with ya? Did your brain short circuit? Come on, get up! We've got an important mission to carry out, and there's no time to lose!" he said and the robot's dim blue eyes glow slightly, and it nodded. "Good. I hope your batteries are all charged up, 'cause we're gonna have a really busy day."

The robot slowly stood up. Spots of light appear in its eyes.

I'm in charge of this operation, so you have to obey all my commands, okay?" he asked and it nodded.

Bokkun hovered above the ground in excitement.

"All right, Emel! Let's go!" he said and flew over to a garage door.

The robot broke free of its wire restraints and follows Bokkun.

Bokkun giggled and pressed the button that opens the garage door, flooding the room with bright sunlight.

"We're gonna give Sonic a real beach today! Forward, march!" he said and laughed as they left the base together.

At Station Square people were running around the park. Some of them are wearing Sonic-themed shirts.

"City Park has been overrun - overrun by fitness fans obsessed with running. This new craze is all thanks to Sonic the Hedgehog. Her heroics are inspiring thousands of people to put on their jogging shoes and run for fun." Scarlet said. "Why did you decide to take up running, sir?" she asked one of the runners.

The man wiped his sweat.

"Uh, I don't know. Sonic has such a great time racing around, I thought I'd try." he said.

At Thorndyke Manor living room the TV was tuned to the news station. Cream and Cheese were playing with toy blocks, and Chris was reading. Vanilla was there to.

"School officials and athletic coaches report that their track programs are more popular than ever, and new records are being set daily. Experts in sports psychology by the sudden turn of events-" Scarlet said.

"SONIC!" someone shouted out.

Suddenly an angry Amy stormed into the room, causing the other to cower back.

"Hi, Amy." Chris said.

"What's wrong?" Cream asked as Amy leapt up onto the table.

"All right, where are you hiding, Sonic? You better come out now!" she said and Chris cautiously approached her.

"She's not here." he said but she put him in a headlock and drew her hammer.

"You can't fool me! I know you're hiding and Chris is covering for you, so come on out, Sonic!"

"I'm not covering for her. Sonic was here earlier, but she left, and she didn't say where she was going."

"Chris is telling the truth, Amy!" Cream said.

"Chao!" Cheese said and Amy knelt on the table in front of Chris.

"I'd better find him right away, or there's gonna be big trouble." Amy said.

"Why? What's wrong?" Chris asked.

"Is a monster attacking the city again?" Cream asked.

"No, it's worse." Amy said and growled, causing Cream and Cheese to quiver.

"I-I'm sorry Amy, I didn't mean to make you angry!"

"Chao chao!" Cheese said.

"Take it easy. Just tell us what's going on and maybe we can help." Chris said and a fiery aura appeared around Amy.

"Nobody can help! Sonic had a date with me and she never showed up! Aahh!" Amy said.

"Is that all?"

"Oh, so you think I'm overreacting." she said menacing.

"Well, just a little..."

"That's easy for you to say! It took her forever for her to ask me out! I was so excited that I ran out and bought new shoes!" she said and kicked her feet in frustration. "And a new hair ribbon!"

"They look very nice, Amy." Cream said.

"It doesn't matter how I look because Sonic stood me up!" Amy shouted and buried her face in her hands.

Chris patted her back.

"I'm sure there's a good reason Sonic missed your date." he said.

"Oh yeah? Like what?"

"Well... Maybe she... I know! She had to stop Eggman from destroying the planet!"

Amy looked up.

"I thought Dr. Eggman was in prison." she said.

Chris covers his mouth.

"Oh yeah, I forgot." he said.

"Just like Sonic forgot our date."

"Maybe she is coming, but she's running late."

Just then, the doorbell rang.

"She's here!" Amy said and raced toward the door. "Sonic!"

As Chris, Cream, and Cheese coughed on the smoke in Amy's wake, she threw open the door.

"I'm ready..." she said but it was but Sam instead.

"Hey, is Sonic around, Amy? I just put a new engine in my car and she said she'd race me." he said and Amy blinked in surprise. "I can't wait! My new engine runs on high-octane rocket fuel! It's got more horsepower than you can find in a rodeo. With this baby under the hood, I'll be taking a victory lap before Sonic leaves the starting line!"

Chris, Cream, and Cheese had joined Amy at the door.

"Hi, Uncle Sam." Chris said.

"I hope Sonic's not getting cold feet. When I called in this morning, she said she didn't have anything else to do today."

This sparked anger in Amy once again. Chris held onto Cream as a blue fiery aura appeared around Amy.

"What's wrong? You looked steamed."

"Sonic has a date with MEEEE!" Amy shouted out.

A few minutes later they were outside and Amy mindlessly doodled on the hood of Sam's car, Chris explained the situation to his uncle.

"She's upset because Sonic missed their date." he said.

"Well, that's a bummer. Looks like Sonic made two different appointments and stood both of us up." Sam said.

"That doesn't sound like Sonic."

"I'm sure that Sonic doesn't care about me. That's why Sonic didn't show up for our date." Amy said.

"Amy..." Cream said.

"Sonic's a busy guy. I bet I'd take lots of patience to date him, not to mention a pair of really excellent running shoes to keep up with him." Sam said and laughed.

"Uncle Sam!" Chris said annoyed.

"I know!" Amy said and backflipped into the car's passenger seat. "Since Sonic bailed on both of us, we'll go out together."

"You two?"

"Come on; we'd better get going before the whole day is shot." she said to Sam who smirked before climbing into the driver's seat.

"All right, Amy. Let's show Sonic we don't need her to have fun." he said.

"Hold on, Uncle Sam..." Chris said.

"Don't worry. We won't be long. Last year I set a world record for speed dating." Sam said and they took off.

"This is crazy."

"Poor Amy. She's been waiting to go out with Sonic for a long time." Cream said.

Chris wrapped his arms around the back of his head.

"Yeah. Guess Sonic doesn't take dating as seriously as she does." he said.

"I think that's awful!" she said and headed inside.

"Hey, wait! Don't get mad at me! Get mad at Sonic!"

Meanwhile at the countryside.

"Sonic is the most self-centered guy I've ever met." Amy said.

"Ahh... This wind is really refreshing." Sam said.

"He's always running off on adventures without telling anybody, and I end up alone."

"This new engine is great, and it get awesome mileage too!"

"Even If I could keep up with Sonic, she's not the kind of girl who can settle down or even stand still for long."

There were curves in the road ahead.

"Whoa, S-turns! Wait'll you see how this baby handles!" Sam said.

"You haven't heard a word I said!" Amy said annoyed.

"Hang on, here goes!"

"Huh?"

Sam skillfully navigated his car around the curves.

"Why waste time on Sonic if you can't catch her? After all, in life, you only get one lap around the track." he said.

"I don't know for sure that it can't work out with Sonic."

"I still say you tell her to hit the road, but I guess she already did." he said and laughed.

"Let's drop this subject and figure out where we're gonna go."

"You just name it."

Amy snapped.

"The beach!" she said.

"It's kinda far..."

"Well Sonic doesn't like water so we won't run into her there!"

"You win, Princess. If you want to hide out from Sonic at the beach, then we'll coast to the coast."

"All right. Thank you. One more thing: let's agree not to talk about Sonic, okay?"

"The hedgehog is now history."

At a prison Eggman, Bocoe, and Decoe, dressed in jail suits, eating prison food.

"Prison food is the pits!" Eggman said.

"This looks more like sewage than soup!" Decoe said.

"It is lucky for us that we have no taste circuits." Bocoe said.

Eggman tapped his spoon on the rim of his bowl.

"I'm hungry! Bring me more!" he said and Decoe and Bocoe did the same.

"We demand refills now!" Decoe said.

"Hurry up, waiter!" Bocoe said.

Then a prison guard came along.

"Can it, or I'll throw you in solitary! Dinner time is over!" he said.

The prisoners grasped the bars of their cell.

"Don't you realize a genius like me needs more food than the average person? My superior brain burns up millions of calories!" Eggman said.

"This kind of treatment is inhuman!" Decoe said.

"And it is bad for robots, too!" Bocoe said.

"Knock it off! This is a prison, not a four-star restaurant!" the prison guard said but they rattled the bars of their cell. "Here! Now pipe down!" he said and placed the two buckets of food in front of the cell and walked away.

They started serving themselves.,

"Slop some of that slop in my bowl!" Eggman said.

Soon they were eating more food.

"One more meal like this and I am going to self-destruct." Bocoe said.

"I wish we were back at the base. I am dying for a drink of motor oil." Decoe said.

"We cannot take much more of this. When are we gonna get out of here, Doctor?"

"Relax. We'll be checking out of this dump any minute." Eggman said quietly.

At a shipping yard.

"If everything goes according to plan, our breakout team is about to give Sonic the runaround." he continued.

Meanwhile Sonic was running through the shipping yard and was forced to stop as a tank exploded out of one of the warehouses. A laughing Bokkun stood atop the tank.

"What a coincidence, running into you!" Bokkun said.

He was hooked up inside the tank. Its eyes glow red as opposed to their original blue.

"I have an idea! Let's play a game! A shell game!" he said and the tank sped toward Sonic, who leapt clear over it.

The tank's cannon turned toward him.

"Fire!" Bokkun said.

The cannon fired a shell at Sonic, who leaned back to avoid it.

She limbos underneath two more shells and seemed to be enjoying herself - until she found herself staring up the tank's barrel. Bokkun giggled.

"Get her!" he said and the cannon fired, prompting Bokkun to cover his ears.

When he looked up, he saw a smoldering hole in the ground.

"All right!" he said but saw Sonic casually relaxing on the side of the tank.

She soon took off running as the tank pursued her.

Bokkun fired shell after shell at her but she dodged them easily.

"Hold it, hedgehog! ... Yeah! Keep firing! Hahahaha!"

At the countryside Amy and Sam found themselves surrounded in their car by a flock of bleating sheep.

"Oh great. ... Didn't you tell me you knew a shortcut to the beach?" Amy asked.

"Heheh, sure, but I didn't say I was taking it, did I?" Sam asked.

"I bet you're lost, aren't you!"

"Hey, I never get lost. I just can't figure out where I am sometimes." he said and laughed, and the sheep continued bleating.

"This date's a disaster!" she shouted out.

At a general store a dusty and enraged Amy stormed into the general storm, startling an old man inside.

She snapped.

"I need a map." she said and the old man stood up.

"Sure thing. Looks to me you could use a bath too." he said.

"I know."

As Amy tried to pat the worst of the dust off of her, Sam appeared in the doorway.

"I guess I should've put the top down when we went down that dirt road." he said.

"We're not taking any more shortcuts. I'm buying a map and I'm gonna figure out the best route to get to the beach."

"Ah, what have we here?" he asked then removed the leaf and blew it away.

"How can you be so easygoing? Don't you even care that we're lost?" she asked.

"It doesn't matter to me where I end up, as long as I have fun gettin' there."

Amy blinked in surprise.

"That sounds like something Sonic would say..."

The old man approached them with a bag and map in his hand.

"Sonic. You just said the magic word, miss. You don't happen to know Sonic, do ya?" he asked.

"Of course I know her! Sonic and I are extremely close." Amy said and blushed.

"Except when they have a date." Sam said.

Infuriated at the memory, she stomped on his foot, causing him to cry out in pain and hobble outside.

"I owe your friend Sonic more than I could ever repay." the old man said.

"Why? What did Sonic do for you?" Amy asked.

The old man's grandson was on the ranch clinging to the back of a runaway horse, with the old man chasing and falling behind.

"Help! I can't stop the horse!" the grandson said then fell to his knees and gasped for air. "Help me, Grandpa!"

"Now what'll I do?" the old man said.

Then Sonic raced in and stopped right in front of the horse, causing it to buck. Then she grabbed the grandson.

"Gotcha!" she said and returned him to his grandfather.

They hugged.

"Bobby Joe!" the old man said.

"Grandpa!" his grandson said.

Sonic patted the grandson and gave him a thumbs-up as the flashback ended.

Back at the general store.

"Sonic came to the rescue again." Amy said.

"The welcome mat will always be out on my front porch for Sonic the Hedgehog. And any friend of Sonic's a friend of mine. Here, take it, and some candy too, with my compliments." the old man said and handed her the map and bag.

She waved as they drive away.

"Bye-bye! Thanks for everything!" she said.

"Bye! Tell Sonic I said hey!" he said.

A few minutes later they were outside the countryside.

"You know, I just remembered something. Sonic and I are supposed to have our race tonight, not today." Sam said.

"Then Sonic only stood me up." Amy said.

"I forget sometimes. I guess when you move as fast as I do, it's hard for your memory to keep up with you." he said laughed.

"I wish I could forget Sonic."

Meanwhile at the shipping yard Sonic was still on the run from Bokkun's tank.

"Get ready for the tele-blast! Fire!" Bokkun said and fired a barrage of exploding TVs at Sonic, who avoided them and ran up the wall of a warehouse before leaping off toward him.

"Look out below!" Sonic said.

"Don't hurt me!"

The robot's eyes glow red. Sonic landed on the barrel of the tank and tied it in a knot. Two giant hands emerged from the side of the tank and trap Sonic within them, then threw her into a stack of crates. The tank approached the crates, and its hands smashed them and she dodged.

"Let's give Sonic a hand!" Bokkun said.

The tank's hands extended toward Sonic. As they reached her, she leapt onto them and rode them back to the sender. The hands tried to grab her, but they twisted with each other, causing the tank to fall on its side. Bokkun was thrown clear of the tank.

"Thanks to you, I'm running late for my date with Amy!" Sonic said and kicked the side of the tank, and a TV extended out of it.

'Even though I don't want to.' she thought while it crackled before exploding, taking the tank with it and Bokkun flew away from the smoke.

"I fooled you! While you were runnin' away from me, another robot was breaking Dr. Eggman out of prison!" he said and started to fly away, but Sonic chucked a part of the tank at him, causing him to fall to the ground.

Sonic emerged from the smoke.

"Another robot?" she said and looked inside the ruins of the tank.

The robot was no longer there.

Meanwhile while Sam was inside a cafe, Amy was sitting on the hood of the car.

"I guess I should just face facts. Sonic is always gonna be on the run. I guess the two of us just aren't meant to be." she said.

Sam returned with two ice cream cones and handed her one.

"Here." he said.

"Thank you." she said and they started eating. "You're like Sonic, aren't you?"

"I wish. When Sonic wants to hit the road, all he needs are his feet. Unfortunately, I can't travel very fast without a car."

Amy patted Sam's car.

"No car in the world can keep up with Sonic when she's running at full speed." she said.

"Yeah, you're right."

"Then why race her?"

"Hey, you still have to try." he said and she looked down.

"Yeah, that's the same way I feel."

Suddenly a giant vehicle known as the Bomb Tank sped down the road. Sam and Amy soon sped after it. Amy was standing in her seat.

"Roger. I'll stay on its tail." Sam said on the radio. "Headquarters thinks that machine's headed for the jail where Eggman's locked up!" he said off the radio.

"That thing'll break in so Eggman can break out! If we let that thing get into the city, Eggman'll be on the loose again. We've gotta stop it somehow, Sam!" Amy said.

"You're right, but my car is no match for an armored beast like that."

"If you catch him, I'll stop him!"

"Okay, then hang on, Amy." he said and pressed a few buttons. "I changed to Racing Mode!"

Amy sat down as the vehicle changed shape. The wheels moved closer together. Amy's seat saw moved behind Sam's. An exhaust appeared, and wings extends out of the sides of the car.

"Now let's chase that mean machine down and run it off the road!" he said.

He now wore his helmet, and Amy sports safety goggled. The added speed allows them to gain on the Bomb Tank, but was still not quite enough.

"We're losing it!" she said.

"Don't worry! I know a shortcut!" he said and drove off-road and soon re-entered the road some distance ahead of the Bomb Tank.

Amy stood again as they sped toward the tank head-on.

"Steady, Sam!" she said with her hammer at the ready.

"You only have one swing, Amy." he said.

"That's all I need."

Sam pressed a button, and Amy readied her hammer as they approach the Bomb Tank. As they passed, Amy swung the hammer. It became embedded in the Bomb Tank, and it slowed to a stop. Amy watched as the Bomb Tank crackled and exploded.

"We did it!" she said.

"Great work, Amy!" he said,

They felt the wind rushing at them.

"Isn't this a great feeling? We're almost at Sonic's speed." he said and gave her a thumbs-up as Amy enjoyed the sensation.

"Sonic, now I understand why you love to run!" she said.

At Eggman's prison Bokkun was now in the prison with the others.

Bokkun grinned sheepishly as the others glared at him.

"Don't be angry at me. It isn't my fault you're still in jail. Honest!" he said and let loose the waterworks.

On the beach Amy and Sam were enjoying the sunset.

"When we were racing down that road, I felt so alive. It was incredible!" Amy said.

"You could go even faster. You should try supersonic speed." Sam said.

"Maybe someday."

"You know... This turned out to be one of the best dates I've ever had."

"This is beautiful. And getting here was sort of fun."

Amy and Sam glanced at each other.

"Thank you, Sam. If it wasn't for you, I would have spent all day feeling sad."

"Day's not over yet. You can still be in for a surprise."

They looked up to see Sonic standing there.

"Hey there! Sorry I'm late!" Sonic said and Amy leapt off the car and ran toward her.

"Sonic, you do care about me!" Amy said.

She was just about to hug Sonic, but she sidesteps, causing her to fall. Sonic approached Sam.

"I'm ready to race, Sam." Sonic said.

"My car has a new engine. It'll blast right past ya!" Sam said.

"We'll see about that." she said and he leapt into his car as Amy started to get up. "Ready when you are!"

"Get set... Go!" Sam said.

Amy watched the two take off into the sunset.

"Those two guys..." she said with gritted teeth. "This was definitely the worst day ever!" she shouted out.

Outside Thorndyke Mansion Cream was taking a walk with Cheese.

"It's getting late, Cheese. We'd better go inside or Ella will get worried. I hope she's cooking us a big dinner tonight because all that playing made me hungry." she said and became aware of a movement in the bushes. "Hey, look..."

"Chao..." Cheese said.

She peeked in to see the robot. Its eyes were back to its normal shade of blue.
