At the White House the President was pacing his office then finally stopped.
"Eggman escapes. The press'll have a field day, and I don't blame 'em. We napped the world's greatest menace, and let him slip right through our fingers. How could this have happened. We just have to do whatever it takes to find him." he said. "He's out there somewhere, dreaming up another scheme to take over the world. We have to capture him before he strikes again." he said and saw Topaz in the doorway.
"I think it's got to be your number one priority, sir." Topaz said.
"Topaz!" he said delighted then saw Rouge by the window.
"He's probably hiding under a rock with the rest of the worms." Rouge said.
"Hello, Rouge!"
"Do you have any idea where Eggman might be, sir?" Topaz asked.
"No, but we have agents everywhere looking high and low for him."
In an alley Mr. Stewart was looking through binoculars.
"This won't be easy. Eggman could be anywhere." he said.
Back at the White House.
"If you two can track down Eggman and put him out of business, you can name your own reward." the president said.
"Really?" Rouge said.
"Gold, diamonds, rubies - whatever you like."
"I love them all. They're bright and beautiful, like me."
"Oh, brother..." Topaz said.
"Just find Eggman." the president said.
At Chris' school school was out, and Chris and his three close friends left the school.
"All right! School's out! Let's go play!" students said.
"I wonder what adventures Sonic's having today?" Chris said.
"She sure is lucky. Sonic gets to travel all around having fun and helping people." Helen said.
"Chris, did Sonic tell you where she was runnin' off to today?" Danny asked.
"I asked her." Chris said.
"You did?" Frances said.
"Yeah, she said she'd know where she was goin' when she got there."
"I'll see you later." Sonic said and ran off, and the flashback ended.
"That's kind of funny." Helen said.
"That's Sonic." he said and she chuckled.
Then they saw Cream, Cheese, and Emerl on the other side of the street and Cream waved
"Hi, Chris!" she said.
"Hey, you guys! I didn't expect to see you down here!" Chris said.
Soon the group were walking together.
"Cheese and I wanted to give Emel a tour of the neighborhood. Next we're planning to show off the park!" Cream said.
"Cream and Cheese found this robot in my yard, and now he's staying at my house too." Chris said.
"That's cool." Helen said then Emerl rubbed his head and Frances points ahead.
"There's Mr. Stewart." she said.
Sure enough, Mr. Stewart was looking at a particular tree.
"I wonder... This tree is huge. If the trunk is hollow, Eggman could be hiding inside." he said then looked up into the branches of the tree before applying a stethoscope to the trunk.
Then he proceeded to feel around the trunk with the tool. Then he stopped when he heard the sound of moaning from within the tree.
Suddenly Decoe and Bocoe leapt out of the tree and took off running.
"They are on our trail!" Decoe said.
"We must warn Dr. Eggman!" Bocoe said and were soon out of sight.
"Hey!" Mr. Stewart said.
"Mr. Stewart?" Danny said causing him sweatdrop and peek around the tree.
Then he quickly hid behind the tree, but the children spotted him anyway.
"What's wrong, Mr. Stewart?" Chris asked.
"Are you playing hide and seek with somebody?" Helen asked.
Mr. Stewart thought quickly and looked through his binoculars.
"No, I'm bird watching!" he said.
"Hey, let me see!" Danny said then grabbed the binoculars from Mr. Stewart and looked through them.
He saw one of the streets.
"Whoa... You can see everything with these!" he said.
"Danny, let me try!" Frances said and Danny gasped when he saw Eggman through the binoculars.
"Hey... There's Dr. Eggman!" he said. "Looks like he's buyin' a book."
"Really?" Chris said.
"My turn!" Mr. Stewart said then took the binoculars back from Danny and looked through them himself.
Sure enough, Eggman was buying used books.
"It is him."
"Awesome! If we hurry, we can catch him!" Helen said.
"Yeah!" Chris, Danny and Frances said.
Mr. Stewart lowered his binoculars.
"No, you can't. Uh, capturing Dr. Eggman is too dangerous. That's a job for the police. I'll phone the authorities and let them know. You kids should go home immediately. Do not go after Dr. Eggman, understand? Do not even think about trying it. Okay?" he said.
"I think Mr. Stewart is right that we should all head home." Cream said.
"...Then let's go." Chris said disappointed.
"Later." Danny said.
"Bye-bye." Frances said.
"See ya." Helen said.
"Bye, Mr. Stewart." Chris said then left and Danny, Frances, and Helen headed off another way.
"Wait up, Chris!" Cream said and Cheese, and Emerl followed Chris.
Soon Mr. Stewart was alone again and looked through his binoculars.
"I'll tail Dr. Eggman and try to figure out what his next move is." he said then saw Eggman leave the bookstore and walk to the curb.
"Yo, taxi!" Eggman said.
Mr. Stewart took immediate action and leapt into his nearby car. However, it was revealed that the kids never really left, and they all hopped into the back of the car with him.
"Hey, what do you kids think you're doing here?! I thought you were all going home!" he said angry.
"You can drive us all home... after we catch Dr. Eggman, of course." Helen said.
"Uh... Great." he said then relented and drove off.
Outside Thorndyke Mansion Sonic was relaxing on the roof.
"Sonic!... Sonic!" someone said.
Sonic looked down to see Chuck calling to her.
"Do you know if Chris had anything special to do after school today? He hasn't arrived back home yet, and Cream and Cheese are also missing." he said and she instinctively darted off. "Hope they're okay..."
At Station Square Mr. Stewart's car gained on Eggman's taxi.
"The taxi's pulling over." Danny said.
Sure enough, the taxi stopped, and Mr. Stewart parked just around the corner behind it. Eggman got out of the taxi with two armloads of books.
"Where's he going?" Chris said as the taxi left.
Eggman was nowhere to be found. The group got out and searched for him.
"He got out, but he disappeared!" he said.
"There are no fire escapes in this alley, and I don't see any doors." Helen said as Mr. Stewart bent down and listened to the ground with his stethoscope. "What are you doing, Mr. Stewart?"
Mr. Stewart heard the sound of Eggman descending a staircase underground, and promptly stood up.
"Eggman's underground." he said.
"What?"
"Underground?" Helen said.
"How'd he get there?" Danny asked.
"Down there." Mr. Stewart said.
There was an entrance to the sewer, where there was also a canal of water.
At the sewer Eggman finished descending the staircase, where the Eggmobile was waiting.
Meanwhile, Mr. Stewart drove down another staircase in the car. However, the canal was right in their way.
However, he pressed a button that converted the car into a boat. The wheels fold into the car, and slot close over where they used to be. A fin extended out of the back, and the front became narrower and sleeker. Now they could drive harmlessly through the canal.
"Hooray! All right!" Chris, Danny, Frances and Helen said.
Suddenly Danny freaked out.
"What's the matter, Danny?" Frances asked.
"There's a lizard in the car!" he said.
"Where?" Helen asked and she and Frances looked around.
"Right there."
Sure enough, there was a small lizard on the back of the seat. Frances and Helen admired how cute it was. It licks its lips before leaping off. Danny sighed in relief.
"Danny, you don't really believe that harmless little lizard is going to hurt you." Helen said.
"You're not scared of lizards?" he said.
"Of course not. I catch them all the time."
"Oh really?"
"She catches snakes and bugs, too." Chris said and Danny cringed thinkng about Helen stroking a caterpillar.
"You must be crazy!" he said.
"You're a baby!" Helen said.
"That's enough. This is no time to start an argument." Mr. Stewart said with Cream and Cheese laughing. "Remember, we came to sop Eggman."
Chris cried out as he saw the Eggmobile ahead of them. Mr. Stewart floored the gas pedal and chased it. Eggman saw them and laughed.
"Faster, Mr. Stewart! Don't let him get away!" Danny said.
"I'll stop them with my network." Eggman said then pressed a button, and the Eggmobile fired a net that threatened to ensnare Mr. Stewart's transformed car.
Meanwhile Topaz and Rouge were eating at an outdoor cafe.
"How's your dessert?" Topaz asked.
"Dreamy." Rouge said then Sonic ran by.
"Instead of eating, we should be looking for Eggman."
"I'm sure he'll turn up soon." Rouge said and Sonic passed them again. "Eggman's too full of himself to stay out of the spotlight long."
"That's true." Topaz said then noticed Sonic passing them again. "It certainly has gotten breezy. You don't suppose it's Sonic, do you?"
"I'm sure it's her. I wonder what she's up to?" Rouge said as Sonic ran by again. "Sonic!" she said and Sonic stopped. "Why're you whipping around like a tornado?"
"I'm looking for Chris." Sonic said.
"How come?" Topaz asked.
"He never came home from school! Cream and Cheese are missing too!"
"If you happen to run into Eggman, let us know." Rouge said and Sonic smirked before dashing off and Topaz and Rouge kept eating. "I think I'll have some coffee."
"Me too." Topaz said.
At the sewer Eggman had Mr. Stewart and his party trapped in a cell laughing.
"Excuse me. How come you're carrying around all those books?" Helen asked.
"I'm doing some research for my new attack plan." Eggman said.
"What are you planning on doing?" Chris asked.
"It's going to be big. You shouldn't be so nosy, kid, especially when you're trapped in a sewer."
Then Bocoe and Decoe entered.
"Dr. Eggman!" they said.
"What do you two boltheads want?"
"Look!" Bocoe said.
"We found this inside the car." Decoe said and poured out the briefcase's contents, which include Mr. Stewart's stethoscope and binoculars.
Mr. Stewart paled.
"It must belong to him." Bocoe said. "Why do you have this equipment? Are you a spy?" he asked Mr. Stewart.
"Uh... Of course not!" Mr. Stewart said.
"Then what are you so nervous about?" Eggman asked.
"I thought spies were supposed to be cool, not wimpy." Danny said.
"I know. Try to imagine Mr. Stewart as a spy." Frances said.
She saw Mr. Stewart walking, then shooting a reference to James Bond. Mr. Stewart appeared nervous.
"Professional spies stay cool under pressure. He's shaking like a goldfish in a shark tank. Sorry to leave you, but I have to prepare my next mind-blowing attack. Toodleoo." Eggman said and left, leaving Decoe and Bocoe to guard the cell.
Mr. Stewart sighed of relief.
"Why are you acting so relieved?" Decoe asked and Mr. Stewart looked back up. "Maybe he is a spy after all."
"I'm a school teacher." he said.
"It's true. He used to be our teacher 'til he got transferred." Frances said.
"There. You see?"
"Hey, can you guys tell us about this new attack Dr. Eggman's planning?" Chris asked.
"You will not get any information out of us!" Decoe said.
"You will never talk! Because Dr. Eggman never tells us anything." Bocoe said as tears appeared in their eyes.
"We get no respect." Decoe said.
"And no time off, either. We'd better go dry our tears before we rust." Bocoe said and they left.
"Those two should get their bolts tightened." Mr. Stewart said.
Chris and Helen mumbled their agreements.
"We should try to get out while nobody's guarding us." Cream said.
"Helen, may I borrow this?" Mr. Stewart asked then removed a hairpin from Helen's hair, and uses it to pick the lock.
The door opened then he placed a finger to his lips.
"Come on. We have to move fast." he said.
Soon, they were escaping together.
"Wouldn't it be cool if it turned out Mr. Stewart really is a spy?" Chris said.
"In your dreams." Frances said.
However, they stopped when they saw a wall right in front of them. The number 1 was indented in it.
"I guess we're trapped." Danny said.
"Not yet." Mr. Stewart said and walked over to one of the giant doorposts while the others looked on in confusion. "Let me show you a little chemistry experiment." he said and pulled out two small containers and poured the two liquids in the larger container. "When I mix the acid in the blue bottle with the chemical solution in the brown bottle, the reaction is veeery interesting."
Then he set the larger jug down by the doorpost and ran back to the children.
"Now stay back!" he said.
The jug exploded, causing the door to slide upward, amazing the children.
"It did it!" Danny said.
The group hurried through the door but the children were dismayed when they saw a second sealed door blocking their path. Mr. Stewart pulled out his laptop and connected it via USB to a panel in the wall then typed on the laptop.
"The only way to open this electronic lock is to find the password." he said then opened a password detection program and ran it.
The tab changed to the Input Password screen.
"Got it!" he said.
However, an image of Eggman's face over a red field covered the screen.
"Eggman?"
"So all you have to do is type in "Eggman" to open the door?" Chris said.
"No, Chris. That would be too easy. Something's not right..."
"Why not?" Helen asked.
"It's a trap." he said grim typing on the computer.
The image of Eggman was replaced by Trigger Device Release. Suddenly the door exploded.
"I can't take the chance to put the kids in danger." Mr. Stewart said to himself. "We'll have to get this door open another way." he said aloud.
"But how?" Chris asked and Mr. Stewart turned to the children, a grim look on his face. "Maybe we should try knocking!"
"It would be easy to get out if we could only reach Sonic." Helen said and he nodded.
Then he spotted something atop the second door.
"Hey, look! Bokkun!" he said.
Cream followed Chris' gaze to Bokkun, sleeping on top of the door.
"He must know how to get us out of here." she said.
"Helen, what if we..." he said then whispered something to Helen.
"Okay." she said and they started talking loudly to attract Bokkun. "I don't know how she does it, but Ella makes the most delicious apple pies in the world!"
Bokkun stirred.
"You haven't had apple pie 'til you've tasted Ella's apple pie!" Chris said.
Now Bokkun was wide awake.
"Apple pie?" he said and saw apple pie in his head causing his mouth water. "Can I have some?"
"You can only taste Ella's apple pie if you go to Chris' house." Helen said.
"Go tell Ella you saw me here and that I said she should give you some pie." Chris said.
"You bet I will! Ooh, apple pie, here I come!" Bokkun said and left.
The others were surprised at the turn of events.
"If he tells Ella we're here, then she'll let Sonic know too." Chris said.
"And he'll come save us!" Helen said.
"That's right."
At Station Square Bokkun emerged from the sewer through a manhole.
"Apple pie... Apple pie..." he said and looked around. "Which way now?"
Then Sonic ran by him, causing him to spin uncontrollably and then she returned to him.
"Hiya, Bokkun. Where you going?" Sonic asked.
"I saw Chris in the sewer and he sent me to his house for some pie."
"The sewer? I didn't think of looking underground." she said and started to climb down the manhole. "Eggman's probably there. Will you give a message to Topaz and Rouge for me, pal?"
"No."
"If you like Ella's pie, you'll love her strawberry shortcake." she said enticing.
"Strawberry shortcake?" he said and saw strawberry shortcake getting his mouth water again. "Will she make me one?" He asked and she nodded.
"If you deliver my message."
At the outdoor cafe Topaz and Rouge were now enjoying ice cream at the cafe.
"The chocolate's even tastier than the vanilla." Topaz said.
"Dee-licious." Rouge said then Bokkun landed nearby.
"I have a message from you two from Sonic. ... He's in the sewer." he said.
"He's in the sewer?" Topaz said to herself.
Back at the sewer Chris, Danny, and Frances pounded on the door.
"It's no use. You're just wasting your energy. We have to think of something else." Mr. Stewart said.
"There's no escape!" someone said.
The group turned to see Eggman and his hench-bots in his newest robot: the Egg Spider.
"Eggman!" Chris, Danny and Frances said.
"Heheheh! My Egg Spider will soon have you insects wrapped up in a web of misery!" he said.
"Back off!" Mr. Stewart said.
"Let's nix this nerd!" Eggman said and extended one of the Egg Spider's claws toward the group.
Then Sonic home-attacked the robot, throwing it off balance.
"Sonic!" Chris, Danny and Frances said but the Egg Spider promptly stood back up.
"Blast you!" Eggman said as Sonic destroyed the first claw that sped her way.
The second claw pinned her against the wall.
"Sonic!" Chris said.
Eggman chuckled when Sonic struggled to free herself to no avail.
"Hang on, Sonic!" someone said.
Sonic turned to see Topaz and Rouge running her way. Rouge leapt into the air.
"Screw Kick!" she said and Screw Kicked the claw, destroying it and allowing Sonic to escape.
"Thanks!" Sonic said and Emerl's eyes glowed.
"I've had it with that hog! Fire!" Eggman said.
The Egg Spider stood on its back legs, and its chest opened, unleashing a swarm of missiles on Sonic. Sonic and Rouge managed to dodge them. A determined Cream stepped forward.
"Copy Rouge, Emel!" Cream said and to her surprise, Emerl copied Rouge's Screw Kick ability and broke through the door. "Emerl broke down the door." she said as Emerl landed on the ground.
The others were surprised at what Emerl just accomplished. Then he used a Screw Kick and spun toward Eggman.
Then Emerl struck the Egg Spider, destroying it.
"Let's go! This way, everybody!" Mr. Stewart said and Chris, Danny, Frances, and Helen ran through the destroyed door. "We have to hurry!" he said and Cream, Cheese, Emerl, and himself left.
The Eggmobile rose from the smoke.
"Sonic, I always knew you were a sewer rat even though who and what you are." Eggman said and Sonic looked at him grimly. "'Til next time!" he said then pushed a button, but the Eggmobile was damaged, and thrown out of control.
"Doctor, look out!" Bocoe said.
The Eggmobile exploded, sending smoke through the sewer. The heroes left the sewer, choking on the smoke, but otherwise fine.
"Everybody okay?" Sonic asked.
"I think so." Chris said.
"Everyone's accounted for. ... Thanks, Sonic." Mr. Stewart said.
That night, Chris, Sonic, Cream, Cheese, and Emerl finally returned home covered in smoke.
"Ella, we're home." Chris said.
"Thank goodness you're back. I was so worried. Your poor friend has been waiting hours for you to come home." she said.
Chris and Cream were surprised to see Bokkun munching on apple pie and strawberry cake.
He smiled, then laughed.
