Chapter 3
*Again, thanks to AristaNyx for reading over this lovely for me*
Draco was up all night trying to decide if he wanted to follow the instructions in the letter, or just forget about it. After being up most of the night, he decided to sleep on the idea. When he woke the next morning, his mind was made up. What harm could it do to go? It would either be a waste of his time or something would come of it.
He showered and dressed in his black slacks and white button down shirt. He didn't sense the need to be too formal. He went down to the kitchens and was greeted by Mipsy.
"Good morning, sir. What cans Mipsy gets for you?"
"Just the usual. Nothing too much. I'll be out for lunch today." He sat at the kitchen island and opened the paper that had already been delivered. Mipsy brought his food and he ate in silence.
When he was done, he went to the study to go over the mess his Father had made of the family finances. He spent the next few hours sending out letters to those his Father owed money and along with them a slip of parchment for Gringotts to withdrawal the money from the family account. At half past eleven, Draco decided to leave for Diagon Alley.
He arrived by Apparation and looked at the old building. He took a deep breath and walked inside. He noticed all the trinkets, potions and herbs everywhere. Before he went up the back stairs, he heard the door open behind him.
Harry woke the morning after receiving his letter, anxious to find out who sent it. He was thankful Kingsley let him have the day to get his affairs in order before he started his Auror duties. He showered and dressed in his usual jeans, shirts and jacket. He went downstairs to find breakfast. When he walked in, he found a small house elf making food.
"Oh, good mornings, sir. My name is Haps. Misses Granger has sent me to help you. She asked Haps if Haps would mind. I tell her of course not. Please, sits. Food is almost ready."
Harry nodded and sat at the small table. A letter in Hermione's handwriting sitting there.
Harry, I have asked Haps to help you around the house. Goodness knows you need it. Don't worry. I have made arrangements with him on a payment. Even though he refused profusely.
All my love, Hermione
Harry smiled. Hermione was always looking after him. After he ate, he went to Sirius' old study to look around. The family tree was still there, along with his old books and trinkets. Harry sat at the desk and began reading over his contracts from the Ministry. At half past eleven, he informed Haps he would be out for lunch and left for Diagon Alley.
Once there, he found Ollivander's old store. The building looked to be used. He took a breath and walked inside. When he walked in, he stopped in his tracks.
"Potter?"
"Malfoy?"
Harry and Draco just stood and looked at each other. Harry finally come to and shut the door. He walked to where Draco was standing and before he could say anything, a tinkling voice joined them.
"Hello boys."
They looked up at the back stairs to see Luna standing there, her blonde hair still long and hanging down her back and her dress flowing around her bare feet.
"Lovegood? You're the one who sent the letter?" Draco asked.
She nodded. "I am. Come. We must have lunch then we can talk." She turned and went up the stairs.
The two looked at each other then followed her. She took them up the stairs and down a hallway. Hanging on the walls were different issues of her late father's magazine.
"In here. Just have a seat anywhere. I'll be back with lunch."
Harry and Draco found seats on opposite sides of the little table. Both sat quiet, looking anywhere but at each other.
"Here we are." She levitated plates in front of each of them. "I made us tomato basil soup and pumpkin muffins. I find that soup and muffins make any discussion easier and enjoyable." She smiled.
Draco and Harry looked at each other before taking their spoon and eating. After half an hour, Luna cleaned the table and began a pot of tea.
"Luna, forgive for being so forward, but why did you send a letter to both me and Malfoy to come here today."
Draco looked at Harry. "Since when did you become so proper in talking?"
Harry just rolled his eyes.
Luna smiled. "Because, Harry. I know what it is you both want."
"And what would that be, Lovegood?"
"To fix your 'what ifs'. To go back and change what you feel was done wrong. Fix mistakes that could have been avoided." Luna smiled a knowing smile at them.
Draco looked at her like she was crazy. Well, more crazy than he thought she was in school. Harry pondered what she said for a moment before he spoke.
"You're a seer, aren't you?"
She nodded. "I have seen in the last few days what you both want to change. All you need is the right way to do it. It's very simple, really."
"Do tell how we're supposed to be able to change the past." Draco said skeptically.
Luna got up and walked to the cupboard behind the two boys. She pulled out what Harry knew to be a Time Turner. At least, he thought it was.
"This, boys, is something of my own invention. Its modeled from a Time Turner. Its sole purpose is to be used only once to let the person go back and completely rewrite their past." Luna held up a gold chain with a pendant at the end, intricate bands circling in and out of each other around the outside.
"But, Luna, won't our old selves be there as well? Where we have to stay hidden?" Harry asked.
She shook her head. "No. That's the beauty of this little trinket. I have come up with a way to enchant it so that way you can go back as you once were."
Draco scoffed. "This is ridiculous."
"It may seem so, Draco, but I assure you, those 'what if's' can and will be fixed with this. Don't you want to go back and fix every thing you regretted in school? What your father did to you?"
Draco sat for a moment, silent, then nodded.
"The rules to this are simple, really. You cannot tell anyone what you are doing. You both will know that you are back in time. Your tasks of changing the past will solely lie in your friendship. You must become friends before going back to Hogwarts. In turn, you, Draco, must befriend Hermione. She will be the ties that bring your new future together. In more ways than one. Also, Neville will be a key part as well. You will find out why as the years pass."
Harry and Draco looked at each other. Then back at Luna.
"How far before First Year will this take us?" Draco asked.
"Just before. Maybe a week or two. The beginning of how everything changes."
"What about the now?" Harry asked.
"It'll be just like today hasn't even started yet."
"Alright, I'll do it." Draco stood up and walked to Luna. Harry nodded and followed suit.
"Remember, no one can know. Also, there will be certain events Harry that will need to be played out. Let them. You will know what to do once they unfold."
Luna held out the trinket. "Both of you need to be touching it to go back. I have the time set."
Harry and Draco both put their hand on either side of the sphere. Luna tapped it with her wand and it began to glow.
"Make good choices. I'll be seeing you boys soon."
Suddenly Harry and Draco was blinded with light. They closed their eyes and then everything went dark.
