Undead King and the Devourer

A massive DMMO-RPG called Yggdrasil, is nearing its death, after changing the world of gaming industry since its launch in year 2126 AD, the game lost the spark it once had and it lead to its community dwindling, after twelve years of success, on the night of January 9th 2138, the world a certain man cherishes will come to an end.

Suzuki Satoru, known for his name as Momonga in Yggdrasil, is walking in the desolate and icy lands of Helheim, he is destined to beat the Devourer of the Nine Worlds solo to achieve something before the end.

"Haah, it really is sad for this game to end like this, during my walk, I've seen no players! And in Nazarick too, even my friends don't even reply to my emails, they really are busy huh, I feel like I'm going insane in the Great Tomb so I will entertain myself to challenge Kuyō solo!"

To his knowledge, no one, at least with no hacking involved, managed to beat Kuyō solo, so if he pulled this off, he would make history, even though no one literally cares for the game anymore as he last saw from the forums.

Not allowing himself be affected by depressing thoughts, he strode forward with burning passion to defeat the final boss of the main storyline, and in the edges of Helheim, a steep cliff in a world of darkness as far as the eyes can see, he opened his inventory and grabbed the Key of the Devourer, a game item that lets you enter the domain of the Devourer of the Nine Worlds. Momonga throws the key in the void only for it to suspend in the air and a portal opens, unlike the Gate spell, the portal does not look like its made of pure darkness but a portal through the cosmos with stars shining and flickering through it, but inside, Momonga saw the true horror amidst the beautiful scenery, in front of him is a black serpent-like dragon encircling a world as if crushing it with its massive body, before he enters the barrier to trigger the fight, Momonga buffed himself as many as possible, this will be history, and the lone undead player is sure of it.

"This is it! My friends, shitty devs, watch me defeat this monstrosity and make the one achievement none has ever reached!"

He summoned a Death Knight and let it enter the barrier first, once it entered, he immediately teleported behind the World Enemy and unleashed his first spell.

" Maximize Magic: Triplet Magic: Vermillion Nova!"

The Death Knight used its skill to aggro the Devourer and the cosmic dragon immediately attacked, but the skill of the undead knight let it survive with one HP, and this let Momonga cast Vermilion Nova successfully. The 9th tier spell packs a punch but it only depleted 5% of the boss's HP, he already knew this so he cast another and another until it was down to 75%, all while summoning Death Knights to keep the boss away from him. The reason for this is to trigger the 2nd phase, the Devourer let go of its world and began flying, it flied in all directions, and this is where it goes to shit, when the Devourer starts its 2nd phase, its movement becomes unpredictable, and will ignore all crowd control and melee type attacks so only magic casters have the arsenal to brute force it to 3rd phase and Momonga is ready for it.

Momonga felt his MP rapidly decreasing due to the use of mana heavy spells and constant teleportation to avoid every single one of the enemy's attacks, meteor showers, death rays and all kinds of projectile the Devourer throws at him as just one of these attacks can put him in the red and that's death sentence to any magic caster, and he didn't want any of that so he is watching its movements very carefully. The dragon roars, shaking the space itself, Momonga gets distracted and watches the dragon's mouth to prepare for another attack but he ignores its tail and this opportunity is the Devourer needed to deal bludgeoning damage to the undead.

"Fuck! A tail whip!? Body of Effulgent Beryl!"

Momonga panicky casts his spell that made him ignore bludgeoning damage once, he is successful but the World Enemy is not done. He felt an incoming attack and when he turned around a death beam came straight at him immediately taking massive amounts of damage, putting him in critical status.

"Shit! Just another attack and I'm done! Shit! Now you've done it, now I'm pissed!"

"Maximize Magic: Reality Slash!"

"Maximize Magic: True Death!"

A few more of these attacks finally trigger the World Enemy to its final stage, a cosmic attack that will delete anything caught with it, no matter if it's a tank with a very high HP. It is a sure 1-hit KO. But there is a trick that Momonga wants to try and he is excited. Everytime he watches a tutorial how to beat the Devourer solo, they always say that use the teleportation trick, teleportation has the speed of 1 second no matter the distance and at the same time can make you invisible, and the Devourer's cosmic attack has the speed of 2 seconds before it reached the player, so that means that at 1 second, the player must cast teleportation to be invisible and nullify the attack. And when successful the Devourer will only have 5% HP since the attack consumes 20% of the boss's HP and it's only easy kill from there since it will once again be vulnerable to crowd control, and they hinted at a beautiful scene when the trick is successful.

"If only I had learned that when I was defeating this boss for the first time." Momonga chuckled to himself.

The Devourer unleashes its attack that according to its lore can disrupt the flow of space-time and can destroy a universe, a beautiful beam made of devoured stars and worlds comes straight at Momonga but he is not afraid, he watches the beam with anticipation and a smile on his face.

"Greater Teleportation!"

Momonga closed his eyes and teleported straight into the attack…

"Woah…"

He opened his eyes and watched all around him, as if he was inside a wormhole, millions of stars are going past him at the speed of light, truly, Yggdrasil is a game like no other. Therefore, Satoru took videos and screenshots of this beautiful event.

And when the scene is done, Momonga sees the Devourer is back encircling its world again and he knows that this is over, he summons a Death Knight and a clock appears behind him.

"This is a memorable fight, Devourer of the Nine Worlds."

The clock reaches 12 and he sees the Devourer disappear into motes of lights, the fight is over.

"YES! I did it! I won solo! The first time in the history of Yggdrasil!"

Huh?

"Congratulations! Player Momonga! You defeated the Devourer of the Nine Worlds, a hidden achievement is unlocked! Go receive your reward! And from the developers team, this for you! Thank you for playing Yggdrasil, Player Momonga! Watch out for Yggdrasil 2!"

"An egg. What a pretty egg."

An egg made of glittering stars of the cosmos is in his hand, he checked the profile of the egg and it only shows its alignment.

"Neutral huh, not bad…"

He also checks his unlocked achievement and receives a divine gear, a Crown of The World Eater, he puts it on and his HP and Magic attack reach the maximum limit.

"Wow! I feel like I can take on Touch-Me longer than the last time! Haha!"

He checked the time and it's only an hour before the shutdown. He placed the egg in front of him and sat to watch the egg and the beautiful place that is the domain of the Devourer.

29:59… 58… 57…

He waited and waited, and eventually, the egg cracked and an ethereal woman appeared in front of him, she appeared to be naked as she stared at Momonga for who knows how long.

A hidden boss?

The woman smiled and he blushes for how beautiful she is, she moved closer and touched his skeletal face, he widen his eyes as he can feel her hand in real life, as if he can feel his mother's touch once again, he sheds a tear and felt the woman wipes it away.

Take care of our daughter and live happily, a part of me is with her, I will be with you once again and you will know it's me.

Eh? What?

"Father, wake up!"

"Wake up!"

"Huh? Ow!"

He felt his skull crack as he sat up fully awake, he looked at who was slapping him and saw a beautiful teenager to his estimate of at least 19. Tan skin, flowing red hair and wearing a pretty cloak that must be made of space itself, dark as the night with stars shining and glittering inside of that cloak, her eyes too, deep blue eyes as if staring at the abyss of the ocean.

"Eh? Who are you?"

"W-what? What do you mean!? You are not yet to give me a name, father! How could you!?" The girl pouted with tears in her eyes.

Father? Oh right, that woman…

"I- I'm sorry, right, name… how about Ayin?"

The girl smiled immediately as if she liked the name Momonga gave her.

"I liked it, father! My name is Ayin! Yes! You know father… I already have a name but I feel like that name is dangerous to say out loud for mortals."

"Really? Wait, I think I know what your name is and based on the lore, it really is dangerous."

"What is your name, father?"

Eh?

"My name? My name is… Ainz, Ainz Ooal Gown."

"Ainz Ooal Gown… what a weird name father, but maybe that's why mother liked you, because of your weird name! Haha!"

"Eh? You know about Kuyō?"

"Of course father! I know her because she appeared before me saying she loves me and wants me to take care of you father."

"Right… do you also know that I… killed her?"

He saw her daughter lowered her head and a few tears dropped on the grassy ground, he felt his nonexistent heart sink. He immediately apologized and hugged her, she then whispered in his ear the word "yes".

"But I know mother is happy, she explained to me that she would rather die by your hands than be killed by the end of Yggdrasil. She also promised me that she will return and I will know that she is my mother."

The same as mine… is this a dream? Did I die? No. This felt real, I know she is my daughter and my responsibility.

"I'm sorry, but yes, we will find Kuyō and be together as a family. Now, Ayin, do you know where we are?"

"I don't know, a crack appeared below us and we fell straight down, after that, we are here, father."

Hm, maybe we isekai to another world? Haha that must be ridiculous! But I can't argue that this is real. Maybe not isekai but my… wife… had something to do with it.

"Alright, how long are we here?"

"Just about 10 minutes, father. Why?"

"Well, we can't stay here can we? Let's explore and maybe we can see some villages or humans on the way."

Ayin smiled and nodded, Ainz chuckled and patted her daughter's head as they explored the lands. The continent of Falmart and the other worlds will now know true horror.

During their walk, Ainz saw how her daughter eats things, and he is lying if he tell that he is not afraid. After only an hour of walking through the forest, Ayin complained about being hungry so he suggested that they hunt, only for her to open a crack in the air and grab a deer through it, he questioned Ayin about how she does that and told her that it's neither a Gate nor an Inventory. Ayin told him that as a Devourer and a Divine Dragon, she can open portals, cracks and be able to see and travel to other worlds. And the world will bend to her will wherever she resides unless a being equal as her resists her, but she doubts that it's possible as she told some gods tried to peek at her but she swat them away like a bug.

Gods? That is not good, holy attacks will deal massive damage to me, it's a good thing Ayin buzzes them away, but they might retaliate. We need to be prepared.

"Ayin, by your estimation, how strong are those gods?"

"Well, I don't really care about their strength as I see them as below me but for you father, maybe they can defeat you."

Well shit.

"W-well, let's forget about them, finish eating your food and we will travel once again."

Ainz watches as Ayin disgustingly eats her food, she rips the deer's neck and her jaw dislocated like some alien in movies and swallows the head whole, then she rips the body to two and swallows them whole also. But despite this, she found her daughter eating adorable and wished he could join but his undead body is not capable of consumption. When she finished, he opened his Inventory and gave her a cloth to wipe the blood off her face, thankfully her cloak and clothes underneath it are all divine gear based on his estimate, so all the mess is automatically cleaned.

They continued their travel and after 2 hours of walking, they found a lone girl, practicing her magic. He stepped forward to approach the girl only for Ayin to grab his hand.

"Father! Are you seriously going to meet her with that face!? She might run away!"

"What!? Oh… right, I need to hide my appearance, thank you daughter, what should I do without you." Ainz tries to show humor and praises her daughter and it seems he is successful.

"Y-your welcome father." Ayin said, embarrassed, but happiness is swelling in her heart.

I will protect you, father, like I promised to mother… mother, please come back to us soon…

Lelei La Lalena, a petite girl with blue hair and eyes is currently practicing her magic, that is, an explosion magic. She is concentrating on forming a ball that will contain the explosive magic when she feels a dangerous aura that causes her to drop the ball and it explodes near her feet, causing some burns and scratches.

Where did that dangerous aura come from?

She looked around, and there, at the clearing of the forest, two beings approached her, a beautiful woman and a masked man. The woman is staring at her with indifference as if she is a worm beneath her, the masked man, she is not sure, he is tall with wide shoulders based on his weird shoulder pads, she does not sense any magic from him, in fact, he was devoid of any magic. They all wear some strange but clearly expensive clothing, the girl is wearing some cloak as if it's made from the stars in the night sky, while the man wears a black cloak that seems to suck light all around him. Overall, Lelei found them creepy and dangerous.

"Good afternoon, may we interrupt you for a while? We just have some questions."

"Well, you interrupted me already sir, but I'll be glad to answer." Lelei answered with a rather emotionless voice.

"R-right, well, we are lost, can you tell where we are?"

"Oh, we are near Coda Village, just go north from here."

"I see, um, I saw your practice earlier, you are practicing magic, correct?"

"Yes."

This girl reminded me of Shizu, hehehe

"I'm rather curious, you see, I'm a magic caster myself, and I want to see what kind of magic you're gonna do as for some reason you lost your concentration, but here, a potion, it will heal your burns."

Ainz opened his Inventory, and he grabbed a potion and gave it to the girl, who was staring at him as if she was surprised about something, after some staring match, the girl nodded and gulped the potion with no hesitation whatsoever.

Wow, she drank that without asking me about poisons, she must be naive, well, she is young and maybe inexperienced. But I can't blame her, those burns must've hurt.

Lelei stared in amazement about the tall man opening some sort of portal and grabbing a potion, but instead of blue and green potion like she's used to, him was bright red and she felt some magical energy within the potion, so after snapping back to reality, she quickly drank it and gasp at the intense feeling of healing magic. She got up and bowed to the man slightly.

"Thank you sir, you said you are a magic caster? But I don't feel any magical aura."

"Well, I have a ring that prevents others from sensing it."

"I see, I don't mind showing you my magic sir."

Lelei backed off, and started concentrating as before, she felt the man stare at her with curiosity, but the girl is looking at her as if she is bored. Even though she is embarrassed, she successfully completed her spell and released it in the lake nearby, causing a rather large explosion.

That's a rather disappointing spell, I estimate it as 2nd tier at best. But I sense some potential in her, maybe because we are both magic casters?

"Amazing, you have a potential kid, how old did you start?"

"Thank you, I started learning under master Cato at the age of 10, and I'm 14 now."

"That's rather young, only 4 years of studying too, you've got a bright future ahead."

"May I see your magic too? I saw how you open a portal and I want to learn it."

"My Inventory? Well if I only I can but I don't know how, my Inventory is innate to me and it's not magic. But I can show you a spell of mine."

Ainz saw how the girl had a disappointed look when she heard that she couldn't learn it. But there's no helping it, he's just a normal human back then and his magic is from a game.

"Me too, father! I want to release some of my magic too."

"Eh? Well if you want to you can."

Lelei watches the duo with excitement, the bored but dangerous woman will show some of her magic and the man who she now learned as the woman's father as well. The man pointed at the lake and she heard the word Fireball, a strange circle appeared in his hand that she had never seen before as a huge ball of fire shoots out causing a huge explosion.

Strange but powerful…

It's now the woman's turn and Lelei immediately felt a dangerous aura intensifying within her, a chill run down her spine as she felt goosebumps about how strong this woman is. The woman raises her palm and Lelei is starting to tremble as her soul is screaming at her to stop the woman, Lelei is scared to death.

Stop her!

Stop her!

She will destroy everything!

"P-please sto-"

She is too late, Lelei sees how a dark beam shoots out of the woman's palm as it hits the forest, a massive explosion destroys the entire forest in a blink of an eye, the lake is now gone and everything in front of them. Lelei dropped to her knees, not because of amazement but because of the sheer terror and destruction the woman inflicted, some animals and demi-human tribes must be somewhere deep in that forest, and now they're gone, a part of the forest and the entire lake disappeared.

"A-Ayin, you need to be careful and control yourself."

Lelei heard the man a bit shaken as well, but his tone hinted that he doesn't care a bit.

"Yes father, well I didn't know my excess energy could cause this much damage, I thought it was just miniscule."

Miniscule? That destruction is just a miniscule amount of her power?

"I apologize, um, Ayin, apologize to her as well."

I forgot that my daughter is a World Enemy! Damn, she deletes that lake and the forest! I need to educate her somehow. Poor girl, she is shaking all over, traumatized for sure.

"Um, I apologize, miss…"

"M-my name is L-Lelei."

"Miss Lelei! I'm sorry! I-I didn't know…"

This woman…

"T-that's okay, if you're sincere enough I can forgive you, but the village probably saw that too. I want you to come and explain yourselves and maybe try to compensate for the damages. This forest is within the territory of the Saderan Empire after all."

"I-I see." Ayin looked at her father with teary eyes for the trouble she caused, her father sighed and nodded.

"That's alright Ayin, let's go and apologize to the people."

Saderan Empire huh, we will be in big trouble for this…

Ainz sighed, there's no need to regret everything now, all he needed to do is fix the mistake they both made. Technically, blame is all on him as he forgot that Ayin is a being capable of eating worlds, and he let her unleash her power, destroying and drawing attention to themselves. And they can't just kill an entire Empire for their fuck-up. Ainz watched as his daughter helped the poor girl up as she was still shaking but Ayin healed her and calmed her mind.

"Let's go you two, Miss Lelei-san please guide us to your village."

"Yes." Lelei replied, the woman named Ayin is now clinging to her arm, normally, Lelei wants her personal space, but a dangerous woman like Ayin needs to be monitored. And she is going to tell her master Cato about this and maybe the Empire.

"I'm really sorry, Lelei."

"I told you, it's okay now. You just scared me, that's all."

"Uu, I don't want anyone to be scared of me. It makes me feel like I'm ugly. By the way, you may know me by name now, but let me introduce myself properly, my name is Ayin, and my father is Ainz. Nice to meet you!"

"Umu, nice to meet you Lelei."

"Hm, nice to meet you too, even though our introduction to each other is a bit uncomfortable."

"Hehehe."

"U-umu."

The sun was already setting when they arrived in the village, and as Ainz thought, many villagers were outside the walls with worried looks, some of those are even proposing to leave.

"Lelei!" An old man approached them, he looked like a typical wizard, pointy hat, robes, and a staff with an orange gemstone at the head.

Cato ran to his student but immediately stopped in his tracks when he saw the people that were behind Lelei, a woman of tan skin, red hair and wearing a cloak made of stars in the night sky, and a very tall man wearing a black robe that sucked all light around him. Even though Cato sees them, especially the woman as dangerous, Lelei seems to be happily engaged in a conversation with her, so he approaches them with caution.

"Lelei, so you bring friends with you, who are they?"

"Master, she is Ayin and her father Ainz, they said they are lost and are looking for a place to sleep."

"Hm, but you see, there is a huge explosion in the nearby forest and we are afraid that there is a dangerous monster nearby, some are even speculating that it is the mist of the void by how dark the smoke is, but it quickly dissipated after some time."

"Um, master, we can talk about it later, but for now we need to calm the villagers, everything is alright now."

You know who did those, Lelei…

"...I see."

Cato let Ainz and Ayin rest in his home, even though he kept his guard up the entire time, for now he needed to learn what caused those explosions and if his speculations are correct, so he and Lelei went outside to know the truth from her.

"Lelei, what happened?"

"Master… that woman, she's dangerous, she's the one who destroyed a part of the forest and made the lake disappear."

"What did you say!? The lake disappeared!? How!?" Cato shouted, startling Lelei a bit.

"Master, she unleashed a powerful magic, a dark beam. I was scared at that time, my soul was speaking to me to stop her, to run away. Master, I beg you, don't antagonize them. They are good people, they didn't hurt me."

Lelei stared at Cato, he noticed some moisture in her eyes and she was shaking a bit, whatever Lelei saw at that time affected her.

"Are you sure? Did they threaten you?"

"No master, Ayin is not like that, and her father is just a strange man."

"I see, should the Empire know about them?"

"I considered that master, but they are just lost and they seem to be ignorant of this world. As if they're not from here."

"Oh… is it possible that they came from the Gates of Hardy-sama?"

"It's possible… Hardy-sama… are you going to destroy this world?"

Lelei mumbled those last words but Cato heard it nonetheless, and he couldn't help but be surprised at Lelei's question for the gods.

How frightening, Lelei… Hardy-sama… Gods… please save us…

Domain of the 12 Gods, a place where the 12 Gods can arrange a meeting to talk about the world or if some great disaster is coming that the mortals cannot handle. The place is in the realm of what the mortals called Heaven, a massive circular table with 12 chairs surrounding it. Normally, the gods would enjoy the beautiful nature around them but this is not the time, they are all anxious and afraid, even Emroy is chuckling nervously looking at Elange.

"We are fucked, hehehe."

"This is your fault! Hardy!"

"Why are you blaming me!? They didn't come here through my Gates, I told you they fell from the sky! Someone must've opened some sort of portal or crack like that evil girl did to this world earlier!"

"How come they didn't die from that fall!?"

"Do you really think they'd die from that Zufmuut?"

"Look at the destruction that evil girl does to our world."

"She is not gonna destroy this world, she is gonna eat it."

"Don't peek at her again Elange, she almost ate you."

"I know La, I didn't know she could materialize here."

"What I didn't understand is how can a void gain consciousness and gain a body?"

"Maybe she is not from the void we know of."

"But she is not hostile right? She only attacked Elange and warned him to not cross her again."

"And she is not eating humans nor demihumans. Her so-called father managed to control her somehow."

"What should we do? A void being from another dimension managed to enter our world."

"Well for one, let's imprison Hardy!"

"I told you! It is not my doing!"

"Can you stop opening Gates now?"

"I can, but there's a Gate that's scheduled to open a year from now, I can't stop it anymore."

"Tsk! You and your stupid games!"

"Haah… let's warn our apostles about this…"

"Yeah…"

This is boring…

Ayin is alone at her room as her father is talking with the old man that is the owner of the house they're staying at, she wanted to talk to Lelei more but she is already sleeping, with nothing better to do, she opened the window and took to the skies to stare at the beautiful night sky. Everytime she watched the cosmos, she felt her mother's presence, she just had to wait a bit more and her mother would be reborn again, even if it's thousands of years, time and death is not her concern.

"Mother, I can't wait to see you again…"

She felt her father behind her, she knew her father is not completely seeing her as his daughter yet nor her mother his wife, but Ayin knew that he will accept them, time is on her side.

"Father, do you feel mother?"

"Y-yes."

Lies father… hehehe…

"I love you father." Ayin said without looking at her father.

"...I love you too."

You're not lying… father…
