Chapter 6: Ahsoka – Don't leave the Boy-Who-Lived Alone
A/N I don't own either of these universes or they wouldn't be popular :D
Ahsoka knew that letting Harry out of her sight for one minute would be a terrible idea, but she wasn't prepared for the realisation of suddenly not feeling his presence in the Force.
"Hermione." She gasped. "Where's Harry?"
Hermione and Ron stopped, spells and screams surrounding the three as they realised their scar-headed friend was missing.
"Do we go back?" Hermione asked, her face filled with worry as she bit her lip in contemplation.
Ron stared at the sight, obviously distracted until Ahsoka jumped into both of them knocking them out of the way as a bright red spell flew right where they previously stood. A voice spoke out from behind the flames as a dark robed figure stepped into view.
"Well, well, well, A Weasley and some mudbloods, guess this party was as good as I was promised."
Ahsoka drew her lightsaber, she wasn't sure if her wand could be tracked right now, Harry had told her underage magic was illegal and she wasn't willing to take the risk, closing her eyes and immersing herself into the Force she stood, igniting her blade before moving in a flash.
She ran towards the man in black robes who seemed frozen, her lightsaber reflecting off his mask as her blade fell towards him like a thunderbolt. The man made no effort to move staring as the blade of what seemed to him as pure light flew towards him, Hermione and Ron watched in sick fascination as the man's arm was detached from his body. It fell to the rough dirt ground in slow motion as his piercing scream rung through the night.
"You mudblood whore!" The man screamed as he clutched the stump that used to be his arm. "Why won't you just die like the filth you are!"
The man fell to the floor screaming obscenities that quickly became meaningless painful ramblings.
Ahsoka stood on his wand, crushing it beneath her boot before calming walking back towards her new friends, picking them up with the Force she tried to calm them down. Their breathing was laboured and their eyes never left the burnt stump that was the man's arm.
"Guys! We need to keep moving." They remained unresponsive. Ahsoka started to get restless, they needed to find Harry.
"Harry needs us, come on!" She tried. That seemed to shock them out of their temporary paralyses.
Hermione's face straightened as she stood while Ron became determined, they both looked at each other before they looked to Ahsoka.
"Can you sense Harry using the Force?" Hermione asked.
"No." Ahsoka replied. "Not at the moment, there's too much magic around for me to get a read on him, but if we go back the way we came I might be able to sense him."
They all nodded before running back the way they came, trying to figure out where they had lost their wayward friend.
The destruction around them was horrific, tents were burning, bodies littered the floor. Fires raged around them, and a never-ending scream seemed to ring in their ears.
"Knowing Harry, he'll be where the screams are trying to help people." Hermione said, panting slightly. Reminding Ahsoka that even if she wasn't ready to begin training the others in the Force, teaching them some physical training would go a long way in the future.
Putting that idea on the backburner they raced into the forest, following the screams.
Very quickly Ahsoka started to create distance between herself and the others, she tried to consciously keep them within reach, but the Force was urging her to reach Harry as quickly as possible.
Trees blurred as they raced through the forest. Ahsoka could hear Ron and Hermione panting behind her trying to keep up but before too long she saw Harry in a clearing, he seemed dazed, staring into the sky at a glowing skull and serpent symbol that caused Hermione and Ron to gasp.
"Harry!" Ahsoka cried, running towards him grabbing him in a death grip, she couldn't describe the feelings inside her when she realised he was gone. The Order had always taught her that attachments were wrong, and emotions needed to be controlled. Yet holding Harry right now, after spending the last hour frantically searching for him. She couldn't put it into words, but nothing had ever felt more right.
Just as she opened her mouth to speak once more, the Force screamed at her to move and Harry pulled her down as shouts sounded around them.
"Stupefy!" a chorus of voices shouted in tandem.
"Stop!" Another voice shouted, "Stop, that's my son!"
Arthur Weasley came running in from the shadows
"Are all of you okay?" He asked kindly, yet his face showed irritation.
Ahsoka scowled, they had been attacked for no reason. She wanted answers.
"Why did you attack us? What possible reason could you have for attacking a bunch of students?" Her voice was level and calm yet the last sentence was dripping with sarcasm.
"Which of you did it?" He snapped "Which of you summoned the dark mark?"
Ahsoka started shaking, she felt overwhelmed with emotions and felt herself on the verge of snapping. She'd almost lost Harry tonight, the first person to take care of and be kind to her after she had come here. Who was this beady eyed man to attack them after they just reunited?
Her train of thought stopped when she felt Harry put a comforting hand on the small of her back. She looked at him only to see a calming smile that didn't reach his eyes. He was angry too but getting angry wouldn't help them here. Ahsoka took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Trying to centre herself.
"It wasn't any of us Sir," Harry voiced washed over her, surrounding her. She could feel him using the Force. It calmed her, she felt the anger draining from her body as she melted into the hand still pressed to her back.
Opening her eyes she noticed the affect Harry's words had on the man in front of her. He still seemed tightly wound, like one more stress added to the pile would cause him to collapse under the stress, but his face relaxed slightly.
"If not you," He hissed, his eyes focussed solely on Harry now. "Then who?"
Harry smiled, Ahsoka felt another wave of the Force wash over them, calming everyone and keeping the situation civil. Looking at Harry she wasn't even sure if he was doing it consciously, it almost seemed like he wanted everyone to be calm and the Force agreed.
"There was a man, he stood over there." Harry pointed to the spot he had been staring at, right below floating skull.
"He dropped his wand and vanished." Harry finished.
Two of the men walked over to where Harry pointed and found nothing for a few moments before a sudden shout was heard and a house elf was pulled from behind a tree, holding the wand.
Ahsoka watched Harry confused, didn't he say he saw a man? That was not a man. Harry's face mirrored her confusion, like the puzzle was completed but the final piece didn't seem to fit.
The beady eyed man turned back to Harry.
"I thought you said it was a man? Yet instead, I find my house elf holding the wand?"
"I told you what I saw." Harry replied evenly. "I am as confused as you."
Ahsoka stood staring at the man.
"You said it's your house elf?" Ahsoka said incredulously. "Yet you continue to blame Harry."
The man turned to the house elf ignoring Ahsoka. He grabbed the elf roughly and spoke harshly.
"Elf did you cast the mark?" The elf struggled; it seemed like it didn't want to answer.
"Winky must protect master Barty!" The man's eyes widened before ripping the wand from Winky's hands.
"Hey that's mine." Harry called, "Thought I'd lost it honestly." He spoke that last part looking ashamed. Ahsoka shot him a disapproving look.
The man threw the wand back to Harry without a word, his eyes seemed different to Ahsoka now. It was obvious to her what the elf said had shaken him to his core. All accusations towards Harry were gone and he barely seemed to care about them.
"If that's all Barty?" Arthur stepped up. "Ill be taking these kids back now."
The now identified Barty nodded distractedly.
Walking back through the campsite was a depressing sight. It seemed majority of the civilians had let the masked men rampage through them, bodies littered the floor and majority of them were not masked. It was a sight Ahsoka had seen before, she'd been fighting in a war for a few years at that point but still. The sight of families crying over the bodies of loved ones and knowing that some people will have just disappeared tonight affected Ahsoka more than she'd like to admit.
Taking a shuddering breath, she forced herself to move forward. Finally, the group reached the portkey back and almost silently they port keyed back to the burrow.
-O-HPAFG-O-
The days following that event were tense, Harry had been unnervingly quiet and Hermione and Ron had no idea what to help him. It had taken almost a day before Ahsoka realised what was wrong. She'd walked up the stairs of the burrow before knocking lightly on his door.
"Come in." Harry's voice echoed through the door.
Ahsoka walked in found harry sitting on the floor meditating, he had a bucket next to him he had thrown up in a few times and tears had left remnants on his face that was impossible for Ahsoka to ignore.
She sat down in front of him but said nothing, she silently waited for him to speak.
"I killed people that night. People who had lives and families. You taught me that the Jedi were peacekeepers and believed in justice. Those men had no trial, they died by my hand without any form of justice." Harry's voice broke as he sobbed. "Every time I close my eyes I see their bodies, I imagine their families and I imagine children waiting for their fathers to come home. How am I supposed to live with myself after taking a life?" He sounded so broken that Ahsoka just wanted to wrap him up in her arms and hold him until she fixed him but knew that wasn't the solution here.
"The Jedi were peacekeepers in times of peace, they were also Generals and Warriors. They made decisions, fought battles, sometimes they lost troops." Ahsoka took a breath before continuing in the softest voice she could. "My first time as commander I almost lost my entire squad. Those deaths were my fault, and those men were my friends. They won't come back Harry."
Harry looked at her, his eyes wet with tears. Ahsoka continued.
"Taking a life is always hard, it should be. It proves you did it for the right reasons. You had to defend yourself otherwise you would have died. Do you plan to go out on a killing spree killing everyone for even the slightest insult or just for fun?"
Harry shook his head, looking at the floor.
"That's what makes you different, it makes you good. As Jedi we have to sometimes do things we don't want to do, things others can't do. But as long as we stay on the Light Side, and do everything we can to stay there. I promise I'll be there for you. I am proud of you Harry. Feeling this regret shows me how good you truly are." She finished with a smile before finally pulling him into a hug.
Harry clung to her as fresh tears sprung from his eyes.
Ahsoka gently pried harry off her and helped him stand up.
"Harry," She began gently, "You need to get up, your friends are worried about you."
"I know." He groaned, before slowly standing up.
