Prologue

The lack of presence of the Miko was easy to take note of. Especially when she was often lounged out around the House of Lamentation. When going to check her room, Lucifer could tell that's where she resided. Even from where he stood, he could feel the weight in her aura. It made him frown, wondering what might be weighing on her mind enough to make her isolate herself as she was.

He knocked on the door. A few seconds passed by before her soft voice came from the other side.

"Come in."

He didn't waste another second before he opened her door and stepped in. She was seated at her desk, her back facing the doorway even as he walked in. When he got a good look on her face, he was swift to note the thoughtful expression residing there.

"What's on your mind?" he asked. Not long after those words left his mouth, she glanced at him from the corner of her eye. She shifted in her seat so she could look directly at him.

"Do you genuinely believe I belong here, Lucifer?" The question was abrupt. It was the last thing he thought she would say. She didn't miss his silence, and she looked down at the desk in front of her. "I'm supposed to be inside the jewel, yet…-" She didn't have to finish that thought. He was very aware of that situation.

The Shikon no Tama.

She had been sealed within it centuries ago to keep it dormant. It was out of the blue when she was so suddenly freed while the jewel was in the possession of Lord Diavolo. It was now a distant memory, as he'd hidden it deep within the Demon Lord's Castle, keeping it far out of anyone's reach.

Still…-

"Do you think it was a mistake for me to be released from the jewel?"

He observed her face as she voiced that thought. There was nothing but genuine curiosity lining those words. Lucifer sighed, closing his eyes.

"Whether it was or wasn't, none of that matters," he stated. "This is your home, and this is where you belong."

Though his words weren't much at all, they still left a soothing warmth in her chest. Her thoughts shifted to other worries. She'd been trying to come up with a way to broach this subject with him for a long time, but she never had much luck. She could tell he was well aware of what she had to say, and he waited for her to give a voice to her thoughts.

"Solomon asked me to become his apprentice." It felt easiest to just say it then and there. To just let it air out. "And I said yes."

He was taken aback by her reveal. It showed on his face for a few seconds before he composed himself. She didn't see him falter, but she felt it.

"I see."

She nodded, a small smile on her face. "Lord Diavolo is well aware," she stated. "Since I have to leave for the Human Realm in order to fulfill this role, I needed to let him know. I asked him not to say anything to anyone else," she said then. "If I hadn't, then he would've brought it up before."

Lucifer was quiet as he processed her words, as he processed the decision she'd already made. With it came the looming thought of her lacking presence. The feeling in his chest was a new one, one he didn't give a name just yet, but there was no ignoring it or the sting that came with it.

"When do you plan to leave, then?" Lucifer asked. He swallowed the words he wanted to say- that he didn't want her to leave. She smiled, resting her chin in her palm.

"Solomon said at the end of the year," she stated. It was a date that was soon approaching in only a month. "Since it marks the end of the Exchange Program and he'll be going back then, too."

"If this is what you feel is right for you, then I have no place to stop you," he stated, especially if Diavolo had already given her the blessing to depart from the Devildom. She smiled in response.

"I'll come back soon," she said. There was something reassuring in her voice. Maybe she was telling herself that to give herself some comfort.

"You certainly seem lost in thought."

Kagome picked her head up, turning from her DDD and to the white-haired man approaching her. Even in the Human Realm, the service remained intact, at least. Solomon glanced down watching the text on the screen go by quickly. "No, just watching another fight in the group chat before Lucifer shuts it down," she remarked, holding the device out a bit more so Solomon could see the ongoing fight between the brothers.

He chuckled in response, waving for her to put her DDD away. She relented and did as he wanted, tucking the device into her pocket.

It'd been nearly a year since she'd left the Devildom, the place that'd been her home for several hundred years. She'd be lying if she said she didn't miss it, and those present there. She knew it was visible on her face, especially when Solomon gave her a strange look.

"It looks like someone's itching for a trip home," Solomon stated with a knowing tone. She shook her head and sighed.

"No, really, I'm fine," she tried to tell him. He easily picked up on how little she actually meant that response, and he arched a brow when he caught her mid-lie.

"I feel like I'm having a bad influence on you," he laughed. He reached and prodded at her cheek with a grin. "You're such a little liar."

Kagome arched a brow, meeting his challenge. "Oh, trust me. There are worse influences you have on me," she stated flatly. He laughed in response, brushing off the comment that was surely meant to be insulting.

"I suppose I wasn't completely honest," he conceded with a shrug. "I should've just told you that we're going back to the Devildom," he said, making it clear it was never a suggestion for her to say yes or no to.

"Oh, well when are we going?" she asked. She expected a reasonable date. Like a few days from now, or even a week. That was her first mistake- especially when it came to Solomon. He matched her with a grin, and she felt a familiar pulse of his magic.

"I was actually thinking now," he responded. "Like, this very second now."

"W-Wait!" Kagome tried to reel back, but it had no effect. She got swept up in the portal that formed beneath their feet. "J-Just give me a minute to get-!"

Her request went unfulfilled as both of them got swept up into the portal.

Auroua-chan: A little bit different, but some explanations:

Kagome (following the battle for the jewel) ended up getting sealed in it. A few centuries later, she's unsealed from the jewel in the Devildom- in the Demon Lord's castle, to be precise. Diavolo had her placed in Lucifer's care after she'd adjusted. A few centuries later, she's very much like a sister to the 7 brothers.

This story takes place following the end of Chapter 20 of Obey Me.

The rest will come as the story progresses. (There will be many flashbacks to her life adjusting in the Devildom, as well as other things)

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
