"I think I'm still seeing that chess board," I tell Kagami and Adrien from my position from the couch. "Could we do something that doesn't involve thinking?"
"Normally, I would ask Marinette for advice," Adrien says, from the armchair. "But if I call her, she'll chew me out."
We're all hanging at my place, and since Marinette wanted to make both wedding dresses, she's a little preoccupied. "Anyone up to going to the zoo?" Kagami asks, her head in my lap.
Adrien's eyes widened. "Oh, my gosh! I can get a balloon animal for Bugaboo!" Kagami laughs, sitting up. "Let's stick to the real animals for now, but," she giggles, "If your a good boy at the zoo, I'll buy you an ice cream." I nudge her, leaning forward to kiss her cheek. "What about me? Do I get a cone too?" Kagami narrows her eyes. "Not so fast, Peacock. Don't think you can preen your feathers thinking your all cute and innocent."
Adrien splutters with laughter. "I can't believe she called you Peacock. Oh, oh, that is to funny," he wipes his eyes. "Coming from the person who calls their love "Bugaboo"," I say in a fake snooty voice, "I think its rather appropriate."
Its a beautiful day, but Kagami makes sure we wear sunscreen and hats. "Can't have two lobsters at the wedding," she reminds us, as the wedding isn't far away. "Yeah, and if we do get turned into sun baked lobsters, we'll be real crabs!" Adrien cracks up at his own joke. "Does he ever stop?" I whisper to Felix, and he shakes his head. "No wonder Marinette wanted quiet time." "I heard that!"
Adrien is gracious enough to buy our tickets at the zoo, and the ticket taker informs us that the seal show is about to begin. We take our seats in the outdoor seating area, and Felix takes my hand. As we wait for the seal, I watch all the little kids holding their mother and father's hands, smiling as if this is the best day ever. A sense of longing flows through me, and I want to show my own children the animals, and be able to not only hold their hands, but hold, kiss and cuddle them.
"Something on your mind, My Queen?" I jump a little as Felix's whisper finds my ear. He really can read me like a book, without me saying a single word. "Do you think someday, we can take our children to the zoo?" "I'd like nothing more. But right now, I would like nothing more then to kiss you," he grins. Why do kisses make you warm and fuzzy and forget where you are?
Then Adrien nudges us, and Felix glares at him. "Can't you see we're busy?" "Okay, but I thought you wanted to see the seal."
The seal is amazing, diving and zooming around his dominion of water, all for tasty treats of fish. He even balances a ball on his nose for Adrien's enjoyment. "I have a dominion too. And its called the kitchen."
After the show, we separate and Felix and I head to the Asian Animal section. After all, some of the animals we see today, we may encounter in the wild. My favorites are the snow monkeys who are having a friendly snowball war.
"It says hear," Felix reads some information on a sign, "That macaques huddle together in the trees at night to keep warm on the mountain." My eyes grow dreamy as he reads. "I'd love to live on a mountain, and see wildlife outside our door."
We head to the tiger's next, and one of the tiger's is pacing back and forth, roaring. "He's ready for his mid day snack," one of the keepers explains to us. "Do you think Adrien sounds the same when he wants his mid-day snack?" I murmur to Felix, and we get funny looks as we can't contain our laughter.
The weather is perfect, and Felix treats me to an ice cream sandwich, and we find a bench to munch and enjoy. With the warmer weather, its not long before the ice cream begins to melt.
"Hold on," Felix leans forward, using his thumb to wipe at my face, "You have a spot here, and there…." "Felix…" I giggle as he gently pokes me. I scoot closer, catching his incoming hand. "Gotcha," I sing, leaning forward to kiss him. His breath is cold but sweet from the ice cream and he pulls me close into the circle of his arms.
I'm breathless when he pulls away, his eyes still hungry and not leaving my face. If I could marry this man, this minute I would.
Then we hear a shrill shriek, and we both leap up, ready to transform as old habits die hard. Looking around, we see a small girl about five watching her balloon fly away. If Luck should have it, Adrien comes whistling up to us, holding a red balloon.
"Hey, you two! Finally got my balloon! Do you think…." Adrien's voice trails off and his eyes follow ours. "That little girl lost her balloon, didn't she?" Adrien looks at us, to his balloon. "Felix, I know you know how to do balloon animals, and my balloon will make her day."
I watch with amazement as Felix's fingers flip and twist, turning the balloon into a….ladybug? I catch Felix's sleeve. "Hold on, before you go over there, I think the real Ladybug would like to help with this."
With a quick text to Marinette, she joins us via the portal. The girl's mother is promising her a new balloon and you can tell how brave the girl is trying to be.
"Excuse me," Ladybug calls out to the girl, "I do believe I've caught your balloon." the little girl's mouth drops open. "Ladybug?" she squeals. "And Cat," she grins, taking Cat's hand. "We saw what happened with your balloon," Ladybug explains, "And my best friends wanted to get you a new one. Only now its a balloon Ladybug."
"Oh, thank you! Thank you!" The girl cries, hugging all of us. "How can we ever repay you?" the mother says. "My family doesn't have much money, and Libra was so excited to come to the zoo." Cat holds up his hands. "No payment is necessary, Ma'am. Her thanks is all we need."
"Ladies and Gentleman!" A zookeeper announces. "The chess match between Gibbon and Crane is about to begin. Head over to the chimp habit for the show!"
"Chimps playing chess?" Felix asks. "This I got to see!" "Hey," I ask, playfully, "What happened to not wanting to see another chessboard for quite some time?" "Oh, trust me, this is different!"
We let the boys watch the "show" while Marinette and I hang out on a bench. "That was so nice what you did for that little girl," Marinette says. "Ladybug gave her the balloon," I remind her. "Yeah, but it was your idea. And its the thought that counts."
I smile at her. "Do you think we should find Adrien a new balloon? I feel bad he had to let his go, even if he did give up willingly." "Come on," Ladybug smiles as she offers me her hand, "Let's go find our Kitty a new balloon!"
Adrien is thrilled with his new balloon, and his face lights up with joy. "So, how is the dress making?" "Nice try, fur ball. But I can't give details about the dress." Adrien pouts, then brightens. "If I bought you a roasty, toasty, warm coffee, then would you give me the tiniest of hints?" "I could do that," Marinette says, sweetly, "And I could tie your tail in a knot." "Oh, look, time for for my evening zoom. See ya!"
Marinette's mouth drops open. "Hey, you come back here!"
"Never a dull moment with those two," I grin at Felix. "Thanks for the fun day out, love. Just think, by the next outing, we'll be man and wife!"
Little thrills and chills shoot through me, though I'm ready to be married, all those eyes staring….Maybe I should picture them all in their underwear and the thought makes me smile. Yet, I won't mind being stared at because it seems Felix will finally be mine, and I will be his.
Hopefully I don't forget the vows. "Kagami, breathe. The wedding is going to be fine, and your going to look beautiful."
We face each other. "Will you hold me?" I ask, quietly, wanting to be held. "Of course, My Queen." I cling to him, my head resting on his shoulder. "I don't care about looking beautiful," I tell him, weaving my hands into his hair. "I just want to be yours."
"Patience, My Queen. Our time has not yet come." I roll my eyes, lightly smacking his arm. "You are such a drama king. Who talks like that?" I burst into giggles.
"Kagami?" "Hm?" Oh, how does he make the most adorable faces? "Will you kiss me?" I step forward. "Now that," I brush his lips against mine, "I can do."
A rain shower begins to fall, soaking us, but we do not care. Right now, its only us. But soon the rain has a soaked, and we scramble for cover at the shelter at the park.
"I wonder if Marinette caught Cat," I muse, and I feel Felix's shoulders shaking with laughter. "As we haven't heard any yowling or screaming, I'd say they're fine."
When we get back, Cat is stirring something at the stove, under Ladybug's watchful eye. "Hey, you two," she gives us a wink. "Back from your romantic stroll?" We nod, blushing.
"Good. Cat is making spaghetti, and after you get dried off, you can help me make a salad." Cat turns at the word "salad" making a face. "A salad? Yuk!" "Eyes on the noodles!" she barks. "Yes, M'lady."
Supper that night is one of the livest we had in awhile, and with each joke Cat tells, the pre-wedding jitters slip further and further away.
