Breathe, I tell myself. All you have to do is stand here and wait for your bride to come down the aisle and not cry….. Yeah, whoever said being the groom was easy would be wrong.
Luckily, Adrien stands beside me, my faithful and loyal cousin by my side. And the music starts playing..
A hush falls over the crowd after they stand as they watch two radiant girls walk down the aisle. But my eyes are only on one of them. Kagami.
Marinette finished the dresses in the nick of time, or as Adrien likes to say "a stitch in time". Both carry flower bouquets: Marinette's is bluebells and buttercups, a nod to her and Adrien while Kagami's are assortment calla lilies.
Then, Kagami and Marinette reach us, and with a tradition as old as time, Papa Dupain who is acting and is father-the-bride places her hand in mine. Instantly, I relax and I feel like I can breathe properly again.
Is it possible Kagami is even more beautiful then the day I met her? And I thought she was angelic then….
The minister drones on, and I lean over making sure my voice is the only one she hears. "You look lovely, My Queen." Her head tilts the tiniest degree towards mine. "Back at ya," she whispers and I feel my lips twitch at her playfulness.
Then its time for the vows, and Adrien actually says "As long as we both shall meow" instead of live, and Marinette has to fight hard not to burst into giggles. Oh, dear Kwamis, I don't want to screw up my lines.
At last, Kagami and I step forward, and the ring bearer hands me the ring. The people fade away as I look into my bride's eyes. "Kagami, will you take me as your husband?" She pauses and gives me a look that says, "Um, isn't that why were we're here?" But she manages to squeak out, "I do." We promise to care for each other in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live.
Tears slowly drip down my cheeks as I slide the gold band onto my wife's finger. She gives me a tiny smirk as she puts her ring onto my finger as if to say, "Your mine now, and don't you forget it" look.
"You may kiss the bride," the minister says. Wife. This beautiful woman who has helped me through fears and nightmares, dreams and realities, and taken down a villain together is now my wife.
With all the people watching us, I want to give her a simple peck, but she's not going down without a fight, for she knows I can do better then that.
Time and space don't exist as I wrap my arms around my wife's waist, pressing my lips to hers. A resounding cheer rises from the crowd, and I turn her to face the crowd.
We've opted for an outdoor reception, and when we exit the church, the sun is just setting between the two spires of the nearby church. I like to think the sun wanted to witness our marriage, for it slips beyond the horizon as we descend the steps.
"Thank goodness the hard part is over," Kagami says, holding tightly to my hand. "I'm famished!" "Maybe the hard part for you is over," Marinette teases. "We still have the dance, and you how clumsy I can be!"
"Ah, but that's were your wrong, Princess. For your clumsiness is one of your charms." Marinette digests this information. "Couldn't I make a Lucky Charm that can help me dance?" "I don't think it will be needed," Adrien says, and Marinette gives a little sigh.
Supper when served is chicken and pasta, and oh, how divine is the food? I'm chewing on a piece of bread when Kagami nudges me, fork poised and full of pasta. "Open up, little birdie," she giggles and I open my mouth obediently, her popping the food into my mouth. "Yum. Yum, I love worms!"
"What else is a Peacock supposed to eat? Dragon Fruit, blueberries?" as she's talking she slips our Kwamis their beloved fruit. I lean against the table. "I believe this dragon likes marshmallows. Specially when you get to use your fire breath!"
"Felix Graham De Vanilly, you very well know I can't breathe fire!" she hisses, before shooting me a wink. I cup her cheek. "Your actions say otherwise, but I apologize, My Queen."
"Attention, everyone! The dance is about to begin!"
We staggered our dance, so we would both get time in the spotlight, not wanting to upstage each other. "Here we go," I hold her hand as we step out onto the dance floor.
Though the song we dance to is a classical piece, it seems to us a song of victory. We've been through so much to get here, and now here we are: More in love then ever, and happily married. It seems like we've gotten our own kind of fairy tale.
But there is a surprise I need to tell Kagami, but the dance floor is not the place for it. "Felix, what's going on? We're we going?" Kagami giggles as I transform, heading for the top of Notre Dame.
"I purchased us a pagoda to live in and start a family when the time is right. We leave for Japan in three weeks." "You mean you already-" "Yes, Kagami. Paris will always hold special memories, but its time to create new ones."
Kagami takes a deep breath. "Felix, what if I want to start a family right away? Do you think we're ready?" "Whatever happens next, we shall be together. Though let me have you through at least our honeymoon. Does a tropical beach sound ideal?"
We cuddle together as we watch the moon rise, the party in full swing below us. Truthfully, I'd rather be alone up here with my wife. And speaking of being alone…. "I don't think we did our first kiss justice," I wink at Kagami. "First kiss?" her voice sounds confused. I brush a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Our first kiss as man and wife." "oh," she whispers, and we pick up the kiss where we left off…
Two weeks later…..on a tropical island….
"Ouch! Don't rub so hard!" I glare at my wife, who is trying (unsuccessfully) to slather sunscreen on me. "I told you, don't leave the house without the sun cream! Your getting what you deserve! Come on, I have a strong lotion back at the house. Its into bed for you."
I sigh, pulling my toes from the cool water. Oh, well. At least sunbathing was nice well it lasted. The sun burn actually makes me feel a bit sick, and I spend the rest of the day in bed with a stomachache.
Kagami may be stern with me, but she softens as bedtime approaches, applying more lotion to my back, then reading me a story. Her gentle voice lulls me into a slumber and I fall asleep quickly.
Morning is rough, even after a cold shower, but Kagami has made one my favorite breakfasts of congee.
"Would you like to take a walk and gather some fruit for lunch?" I ask, as we do up the dishes together. "Sounds good."
The intoxicating scent of the berries has us feeding each other the first few berries, before being stern and the rest go in the pails. With full pails towards mid-morning, Kagami asks if there are any smaller pools to dip her toes in. I happen to know just the spot.
"Ah, this is the life!" I sigh, wiggling out of my shirt as Kagami dips her toes into the water. "Felix!" she scolds. "What about your sunburn?" "Hey, there's shade here," I protest, pointing to a palm tree. "And I have you to protect me, My Queen." I bend down to kiss her hair, before stroking it. She sighs.
"You really don't know how good that feels," she mumbles with her eyes closed. Before I know it, she's fallen asleep in my arms.
Its beyond adorable when she gives a soft little snore, and hey, if she can take a short snooze, why can't I?"
"Felix?" "Hm?" I open my eyes to Kagami, her hand on my chest. "If this is a dream," I say, my head falling onto her shoulder, "I don't think I want to wake up." "No, we spent the entire day outside! Look, now I have sunburn too!"
I can't help but laugh as my hands circle her waist. "Well, misery loves company. Welcome!" "Ouch! Sunburn!" I lift her gently into my arms, and start carrying her back to the house. "Don't worry, love, I have some magical oniment that will clear that ouch right up!" she turns to glare at me. "And when I get rid of "the ouch" it's going to be ouch for you!"
"Oh, my, my. Temper, temper." "I'll show you temper," Kagami growls as I set her on her feet. "Oh?" Oh, I am enjoying this. "What did you have in mind?" "Take this," she grabs me, kissing me, hands on my chest. "Ouch! Sunburn!"
"Ha! Payback!" she smiles with triumph, marching into the house. Its a relief to crawl into bed, for I'm feeling exhausted. "Kagami, love?" She opens one eye, lightly swatting at my hand. "Are we even now?"
Before she can answer, I'm kissing her. "Yep, we're good, and everything's rosy," she sighs. I cuddle her close, breathing in her soft scent of peaches.
Kagami falls asleep pretty quickly, and soon I can see her eyelids twitching, signaling to me, she's dreaming. But what about?
Suddenly, she lets out a little moan, and sits up. "What is it? Bad dream?" "Felix," she gasps. "Come here," I hold open my arms, and she snuggles into them. "Did you have a nightmare?" "Just a small one," she whispers.
Two minutes later, she is back to sleep, and soon so am I.
