Elena was sitting at the kitchen table at Klaus' house drinking some blood. They were a few hours away from the full moon, so she was getting ready. She'd already drank about five blood bags, and she was starting to feel the high from it. Klaus had gone off secure the sight they were using to do the spell.
Kol brought over a plate with a sandwich on it. "Eat this. You need regular food too."
"Thanks," Elena said before reaching for the sandwich. It flew into her hand without her having to touch it first. "Yeah, this happens when I drink a lot of blood."
"If I haven't said it enough times, darling, you're marvelous," Kol said. He only hoped they weren't making a mistake by letting her do this. She was powerful, but her experience was practically zero, and this was an extremely powerful spell. Actually, both spells she needed to do were very powerful.
Elen could see the worry on his face. "I'll be okay. I can do this."
"Well, if it looks like you can't, we will stop you," Kol said firmly.
"We should be stopping her now. Elijah is going to have all of our heads," Rebekah said as she entered the room. One way or another, this was going to come back to bite them. Yet, she had been completely incapable of telling her niece no, just as Finn and Kol had.
"He doesn't have to know you were a part of it. I can tell him you didn't know," Elena said.
"No, you're not going to lie for us, dear. I doubt it would work anyway. Elijah can mostly tell when he's being lied to," Rebekah said. There were only a few occasions when someone had successfully lied to Elijah, and she was pretty sure that each time it was Nik that did it.
"What can he really do to you anyway? Me, he'll ground for eternity, but all he can do is lecture you," Elena said.
Kol laughed loudly. "That's clearly spoken from someone who has never encountered one of Elijah's lectures."
"I've been lectured. There have been a couple of times where I wasn't the most respectful and he had something to say about it," Elena said.
Kol cringed upon realizing that she had never truly seen her father pissed off. "Oh, Elena, you've never truly been in trouble if that's the worse you've seen."
Elena shifted uncomfortably. "Um, well, I've only known him a few months. The worst I did was raise my voice and try to walk away while he was talking to me."
"I'm sorry to say that you will be in for one hell of a lecture, at the very least. I remember this one time that I did as you are doing now. I was using too much magic at once. It wasn't a spell like this one, but it was a spell I wasn't supposed to be doing, and he caught me as I was attempting it. He lectured me for a good hour. Then he made me clean the entire house from top to bottom, and I wasn't allowed to leave his side for days," Kol said with a cringe.
Elena winced as she thought about what she was in for when her father got a hold of her. She was so screwed, and at this point it was too late to back out even if she wanted to. He probably had already spoken to Alaric, which meant he knew enough to know she was not Klaus' prisoner. No, she was already grounded for life. She might as well really earn it.
"You got off easy," Finn said as he entered the room. "Yes, he punished you, but he didn't tell mother about it. If had, she would've told Father, and you would've been whipped severely."
"He doesn't really talk about your dad. He's mentioned some things, like that your father had your mother curse Klaus, and that wanted to kill Klaus, but he doesn't go into details," Elena said.
"That's because he doesn't want that in your head, child, and he's right. You don't need to be thinking about things like that," Finn said.
"Agreed. On to happier topics. Tell us more about you, Elena," Rebekah said before sitting down next to her niece.
"Okay. I live in Mystic Falls, Virgina," Elena started.
"Of course, you do. Did your dad tell you that that's where we grew up?" Rebekah asked.
"Yeah, he did. I thought that was pretty cool. Anyway, I have a younger brother. He's not blood, but I love him just the same. He spends a couple of nights a week with us," Elena told them.
"If Elijah cares for him enough to do that, he's family to us too," Rebekah said.
Elena smiled in appreciation. "His name is Jeremy. I have a bunch of friends too. My two best friends are Bonnie and Caroline. Bonnie and I had a falling out, but we were starting to make up when Klaus came alone. There's also my boyfriend, Stefan, though he and I haven't seen eye to eye much lately.
"Your what? Oh, no! No bloody way!" Kol said. There was no way his niece could have a boyfriend. She was far too young for that.
"Boyfriend? Elijah allows such nonsense," Finn asked in disbelief.
"I'm seventeen guys. Having a boyfriend is normal for someone my age," Elena said.
"I don't care. You're far too young," Kol said.
Rebekah rolled her eyes. "I give you my sympathies in advance Elena. This lot is not going to let you handle your own love life. Nik has killed almost every one of my boyfriends."
"Do not speak of her love life! She should not even be speaking of such things!" Finn exclaimed. "Who is this boy anyway? Is he human?"
"No, he's a vampire. He was turned in the eighteen hundreds," Elena said. And she realized all too quickly that that was the wrong thing to say.
"The eighteen hundred?! No, he's far too old for you!" Kol said.
"Absolutely not. I'll be speaking to Elijah about this the moment this is over," Finn said.
Elena chuckled. This was actually kind of sweet. Her uncles were protective over her. She liked it. It also helped that she and Stefan were on the verge of breaking up anyway. He'd still made no effort to accept her father, and if she was forced to choose between Stefan and her father, she'd choose her father.
"Wait, did you say your boyfriend's name was Stefan. What's his last name?" Rebekah asked. It was probably a coincidence, but she needed to know for sure.
"Salvatore. Why?" Elena asked.
Rebekah's eyes suddenly contained nothing but fury. The boy her niece was dating was the same one she had fallen for right before she was daggered.
"What's wrong? You know Stefan?" Elena asked.
"Rebekah, tell me you didn't date this guy," Kol said.
"Oh, God. I'm going to be sick," Elena said. It was bad enough knowing that Stefan dated Katherine. The only thing that made it possible for her to deal with it was the fact that she didn't really consider Katherine her mother, but now she was learning that he'd dated her aunt as well. "Look, I'm so…"
"I'll kill him! He forgets about me like I was nothing and then takes advantage of my innocent niece? He will pay for that!" Rebekah snarled.
"Huh?" Elena asked. That was not where she thought her aunt was going with this.
Rebekah looked at her niece. "Oh, you didn't think I was angry with you, did you?"
"Maybe for a second," Elena admitted.
Rebekah reached for her hand. "No, dear, this is not your doing. That awful boy is responsible for this. He'll pay for taking advantage of you."
Kol leaned over and whispered to Finn. "Are we sure this is Rebekah because it doesn't sound like her?"
"Shut up, Kol!" Rebekah snapped.
"Okay, it's her," Kol said.
"Alright, I think I need some more blood," Elena said before she started to get up.
"No, you sit. I'll get it," Kol said before going to the fridge to get his niece what she needed.

Klaus smiled as he made his way to his car. He'd found the perfect place for the spell. In just a few hours, he would be rid of his curse. Centuries of trying to find a way out of this hell were finally going to pay off. By tomorrow, his curse would be gone, and so long as she didn't end up killing herself breaking it, he would also have a new witch at his disposal. As he told the girl, he was not letting her go if this worked. He still had Elijah to contend with, but he should be able to appease him with the knowledge that their siblings were not in fact lost at sea and were actually awake now. He would soon have everything he ever wanted.
Klaus got into his car and prepared to drive off. As he was about to, the phone next to him started to ring. It was Elena's. He picked it up, and the name 'Stefan' filled the screen. He knew that to be the same Stefan that he'd met ninety years ago, and he was pretty sure he was Elena's boyfriend. Rebekah would just love hearing that.
After the phone stopped ringing, Klaus went through it. Elena had several missed calls and voicemails, some of them from Klaus' brother. He was feeling a bit bored, so he decided to listen to a few. The first was from Elijah demanded that she call him. Klaus chuckled to himself with that one. His brother was probably pissed, but he would get over it.
Next, Klaus listened to a few messages from Elena's friends and from Stefan, the latter of whom didn't seem to have a clue about what was going on. Then there was one more voicemail from Elijah, and that one shocked Klaus to his core.
"Elena, this is your father. I just had a disturbing conversation with Alaric Saltzman. Now, I am going to assume for the moment that he is mistaken in his assumptions regarding your last conversation. However, on the off chance that he is not, I suggest you abandon whatever you are planning and call me immediately! Should I find out that you are anything other than my brother's hostage, the consequences will be severe! Niklaus, if you are the one to listen to this, yes, she is my daughter! If any harm comes to her, I will make sure your fear of our father seems trivial in comparison to me! Someone had best call me Immediately!" Elijah's angry voice erupted in the voicemail.
Klaus was in utter shock. His jaw had practically hit the floor and the phone fell from his hand. He couldn't even form words to express the shock he felt. Elena was not just some little witch that his brother was using to hurt him. She was his daughter. That's why she was living with him. He wasn't using her. He was trying to protect her from him.
Klaus could hardly believe it. Elena was his niece. Although, it did explain quite a bit when he thought about it. It explained why she wasn't afraid of him. Not only did she know she couldn't be used in the sacrifice, but she also knew he wouldn't hurt her. She knew all she had to do was tell him who she was, and any thoughts he had of hurting her would be gone. It also explained why she was going out of her way to help him. It wasn't merely because she felt sorry for him. She was helping him because they were family.
Soon enough the shock wore off just enough for horror to take its place. He'd kidnapped his brother's daughter. He'd planned to sacrifice her, and now he'd come close to letting her risk her life to stop his curse. Elijah was going to be furious to say the least, and that was if Klaus was lucky. Now, Klaus didn't mind pissing Elijah off to an extent, but he knew where the line was, and this was definitely crossing the line, and it was a line Klaus would not have dared to cross if he could help it.
"This girl is trying to bloody kill me!" Klaus exclaimed before starting the car and heading home to confront his niece on just what the hell she'd been thinking.
