Elena was on the couch in the living room watching as her uncles stared at the TV in fascination, which caused her to laugh. The fact that she was also high off of human blood might also be why she was laughing so hard.
"This thing is fascinating. This is how human's amuse themselves these days?" Finn asked as he continued to stare at the large rectangle attached to the wall.
"Well, one of the ways," Elena said as she sucked down her blood.
"Perhaps that's enough of that, darling. You need to be at least coherent to do the spell. How much of that have you had in one go before?" Kol asked as he took the blood bag from her.
"This would be it. Dad doesn't let me drink too much at once for this very reason. Usually, I drink about one or two a day," Elena said. That was actually the first time she called him 'dad' out loud before. She described him as her dad, but she hadn't used that term to address him yet. She'd been thinking about it, but she was kind of worried about how Jeremy would react. Right now, however, she was so high that she didn't worry about anything.
"Where the bloody hell is Nik? We have to get going soon, don't we? The full moon is about two hours out," Rebekah said.
As if on cue, they all heard the front door open and close. Klaus came into the room moments later, and he looked none too pleased. He looked right at Elena as he spoke. "Have you lost your bloody mind?!"
"Well, I am kind of high, so a little," Elena told him.
"What were you thinking? Do you understand the position you've put me in?" Klaus asked irritably.
"I can see you're upset, but again, I'm a little high right now, so it's hard to take you seriously. Also, you lose it over the drop of a hat, which also makes it hard to take you seriously," Elena said. She wasn't sure what he was upset about, and she was finding it hard to care, as her mind was a little loopy.
"This is not a joke, Elena!" Klaus said seriously.
"Obviously not, since you're actually using me name for once. What are you so mad about?" Elena wondered.
Klaus took out her phone and played Elijah's voicemail on speaker for her.
Listening to her father's angry voice sobered Elena up quite a bit. "Oh, this is going to be really bad. Someone put me out of my misery right now."
"Yeah, he's already bloody pissed," Kol said.
Klaus narrowed his eyes at each of his siblings. None of them looked at all surprised by this information. "The three of you knew about this?"
"I recognized the spell. It was from Mother's grimoire, and it can only be performed by a witch of our bloodline," Kol said.
"And you were going to let her do it?! Risking her life was worth controlling the bloody daggers?!" Klaus asked in a murderous tone. He had half a mind to go find the daggers, which Elena had almost certainly hidden in her room, and plunge them right back into his siblings' hearts. However, on second thought, he decided that that would be a mercy. Let them deal with Elijah's wrath.
"Shut up, Nik! Is that truly what you think of us? It had nothing to do with the daggers. I was fully prepared to say no, we all were, but she begged us. You try telling her no," Kol challenged.
"Okay," Klaus said before turning back to his niece. "No!"
"Klaus…" Elena started.
"You will address me as 'Uncle Nik.' This is done, Elena. I don't believe you even considered something so stupid! You could've killed yourself. What would I have said to my brother then? Assuming he even allowed me to live long enough to say anything. I would never be able to look him in the eyes again," Klaus said. It wasn't simply about Elijah killing him for this. He'd thought about a lot on the ride home. This plan could've killed his niece. Klaus would never forgive himself for that, and Elijah certainly never would've.
"The spell isn't going to kill me, Uncle Nik. That's why I needed them," Elena said as she pointed between her other two uncles. "I can use their power to be strong enough. I would survive it."
Klaus turned to his brothers. "Is that true. Would she survive with the two of you?"
"We don't know. She stands a better chance, and her vampire lineage would help as well, but I can't be sure the magic wouldn't consume her," Kol answered honestly.
"Then you shouldn't have even considered allowing this! You should've stopped it!" Klaus said.
"We agreed to let her try, and if we saw any signs that it was too much, we would've stopped it," Finn explained.
"That's not good enough," Klaus said before holding out Elena's phone to her. "You need to call your father, right now."
"No! Come on, we were so close. I can do this spell! Please, Uncle Nik. I can help you," Elena said.
Klaus sighed. He reached over and pulled Elena to her feet. He then took her by the shoulders. "Listen to me, sweetheart. I do appreciate what you were trying to do. I don't like the deception, but I thank you for being willing. But I'm not willing. I would give almost anything to break this damned curse, but not your life," Klaus said firmly. Until tonight he didn't believe there was anything he wouldn't do to end his curse, but risking the life of his niece was not something he was willing to do.
"It won't cost me my life," Elena said.
"You're right, it won't because we're not doing it," Klaus said firmly.
"But you didn't deserve that curse. You didn't deserve to have a piece of you taken from you by your own mother. What she did was awful. It wasn't fair. I can fix it," Elena said.
"Come here, love," Klaus said before pulling the girl into his arms. He was remembering the things Elena told him about her own mother and how she tried to kill her. How the woman had given her to a witch, who had blocked her magic. Elena's history was very similar to his own, and he hated that fact. "Life isn't always fair, and you and I know that better than anyone. Parents can be awful. If I weren't already certain that your father had already handled it, I would be hunting down your mother and torturing her to death for the pain she's caused you."
"Katherine was my mother. That's why Dad killed her. She said to my face that I should've died," Elena said as she let him comfort her.
Any anger Klaus had at his brother for killing Katerina had evaporated. He was well within his rights to do it. Klaus had wanted to spent centuries torturing her, but allowing her to live even another day longer was out of the question after what she did. "Then he did the right thing."
Elena pulled away. "Let me break the curse, Uncle Nik. You shouldn't have to live with this."
Klaus shook his head. "Not today, love. We're going to call your father. We're going to talk with him, and if he agrees, we can talk about trying when you've had time to build your magic."
"But he'll say no. He doesn't want me learning spells like that," Elena said.
"If he says no, it's no. Go one and call," Klaus said as he put the phone in her hand and turned around. He couldn't deny being disappointed at how this had turned out. He had been so close, but the moment he found out that Elena was his niece, there was no way he could let it continue.
Elena looked at her uncle as he turned his back. She knew he was upset by this. He was trying to protect her, but he was disappointed. He wanted this so much. He deserved it. Her father might never let her do this, and Klaus would come to resent him for it. She knew it. She certainly would if it were her. It would strain their relationship. She couldn't be the cause of that. Perhaps she made a mistake by telling her uncle she could help him, but what was done was done. She had to see it through.
Elena went up to her uncle while his back was turned. She grabbed the sides of his head and twisted it until his neck snapped. She wasn't sure she'd be able to do it. She had the physical strength for it, especially when she was drinking human blood, but she'd never broken anyone's neck before. She felt bad about it, but she knew it was the only way she'd be able to finish what she started. "Sorry, Uncle Nik."
"Bloody hell! I didn't see that coming," Kol said in shock. He didn't know whether or not he should be proud or whether he should be admonishing his niece. Probably the latter, but he was so proud. Not many could get the drop on Nik.
"Elena!" Finn admonished.
"I can't give up now. He won't admit it, but he will resent it. He'll resent me and my dad. I can't let that happen. I have to try. Please let me," Elena begged her aunt and uncles.
"Elena, I don't know anymore. Nik wasn't wrong with what he said," Kol said.
"I know. I shouldn't have started this, but I did. It's too late to stop. I have to see it through," Elena said.
"Same rules apply. If it becomes too much, we will stop you," Finn told her firmly.
"Agreed," she said.
Just then, Greta came into the room. Her eyes immediately fell to Klaus, who was lying on the ground. "I missed it, didn't I?"
"Sorry, Greta. We're still doing this, but it's now unwillingly for him. Will you help?" Elena asked. It was a lot to ask. Greta would be risking a lot to go against Klaus. She was the only one of them he could hurt.
"I've come this far. I'm in," Greta said.
"Great, because he's going to wake up before I'm done, and I need some way to contain him. He'll try to stop me if he can," Elena said. She could do a spell herself, but it was best that she not perform any unnecessary magic, so she could preserve her strength for the spells she did have to do.
"I can do a boundary spell around him," Greta said.
"We should go now. We don't have long until the moon is full," she said.
"One problem. Nik was supposed to find a spot, and he didn't get the chance to tell us where," Kol said.
"He told me of the place he had in mind. It'll work. I can get us there," Greta said.
"Well, now Nik and Elijah are both going to kill us once this is over, so hopefully this all works. I'd hate for it to all be for nothing," Rebekah said.
Kol went over and grabbed his older brother, throwing him over his shoulder. "Well, that's a problem for later. Let's go."
They all immediately started out of the house.
