The silence remained for a short time as Waverly lit his pipe. Then he studied April briefly. If she was nervous, she wasn't letting it show.

"Do you know why I summoned you?"

"No, sir."

She noted his rather incredulous look and continued.

"- but if I were to hazard a guess, I would suppose it might have something to do with Agent Warren's hospitalization."

Waverly leaned forward in his chair.

"Precisely. Agent Warren is claiming that you assaulted him. I should like to hear your version of events."

April mentally recited Mark's words to her before answering.
