Authors Notes- Here I am back again with an update for Kindred Spirits. Sorry it took me forever to get back to his story, life you know. But as you can figure out by now I don't own Transformers that belongs to Hasbro. I just own the plot. Now that we got that out of the way here is Chapter Two. I hope you enjoy.
Chapter Two: Just An Ordinary Day.
The next morning arrived, and June muttered a groan as her alarm blared, jerking her out of her fitful sleep. Slapping her hand down on her alarm clock she swung her legs over the side of her bed, and made her way to the bathroom to take a shower. As she got ready for the day she couldn't help but feel like something was going to happen. Shoving that thought away she wrapped a towel around herself and got dressed, before heading to her car. Her plain, white, perfectly normal car, albeit one that was rather long in the tooth and sometimes stalled on her way to or from work.
But otherwise it was a reliable machine. After all, it was her only way to get around. But wouldn't it be funny if she arrived to work on Arcee or any of the Autobots? She had to chuckle at that thought of arriving to work on a motorcycle. She was certain she would no doubt get a few odd looks from her coworkers if she did. Shaking her head June stepped out of the house and drove to work.
"Is our little project almost done?" Silas asked, stepping out of the shadows, several of his men looking up as he approached.
"We just need to make a few adjustments, Silas. Then it will be complete."
Satisfied Silas smirked as he looked up at the screen before him. Before him sat a schematic of what would be June Darby's new body. Stepping away from computer he melted back into the shadows, and returned to his office. Sitting down at his desk he turned on his computer and typed something into it. June Darby's profile popping up on the screen.
He scanned the information his men had gathered on the woman. Learning everything he could of the woman, from where she worked, to her favorite food to her closest friends. Silas put a hand on his chin as he closed the file, thoughts of the woman in question filling his mind. How would she react when MECH turned her into something far better than a human. Something that was inspired by the Autobots and the Decepticons? How would she react? Would she grow to hate the Autobots for what she would become? Would she end up hating her son?
Whatever happened, Silas thought, as he got up from his seat. June Darby would belong to MECH.
Today never seemed to end June thought, as she sat heavily in the driver seat, exhaustion gripping her. She had spent her entire shift treating people. Sighing she put the key into the ignition and pulled out of the parking lot, intent on heading home to relax and maybe have a few drinks. Okay, maybe more than a few. As she had spent her shift treating idiots that had gotten hurt street racing. Morons. She had been thankful that Jack wasn't the type to do something so stupid. She hoped.
Granted she had heard rumors of his street racing with Arcee, but she had heard those were just rumors from before she had met the Autobots. And well, June thought as she pulled into the drive way. There would be no way Arcee would agree to that. Shaking that though from her head she entered the house, closing the door behind her. Today was never-ending, taking her hair out of her ponytail she kicked off her shoes.
"Jack?" She called out.
And got no response.
Pulling her phone out of her pocket she saw that she had an unread message from Jack. Opening it she read it once, then twice. It read. Mom, I'm over at Raf's house, be home later. Love Jack. June smiled at that. No matter how old Jack got he always told her that he loved her. Typing a quick response she placed her phone on the coffee table before moving to the kitchen. Now she wasn't normally a drinker, her father had been a drinker after her mother had passed away. And she had watched as it slowly killed him. And as a nurse she had seen the effect of alcohol with some of her patients as well.
But sometimes she just needed a drink. Or sometimes several. And while she hardly touched it today had been one of those days when she did need it. Going to her kitchen she fished around the refrigerator for the bottle of vodka she had kept hidden behind the various boxes of tofu related foodstuff. Smiling when she grabbed the bottle of vodka Jack had no idea existed in the house. Right next to the box of fudgsicles Jack also didn't know about. Closing the door of the freezer she poured herself a drink. Placing it on the table she decided to get into something more comfortable.
Stepping out in a light pink tank top and sweatpants, grabbing her drink she plopped down on the couch and flipped on her TV. After what seemed like forever she turned it off when she could find nothing of interest. Heaving a sigh June let her eyes slide closed. Her thoughts going back to what had happened lately, of getting kidnapped by MECH. And that spider-bot who seemed to have something against Jack and Arcee, and Jack's science fiction club actually being a bunch of giant alien robots along with Miko and Raf are.
And if June was being honest as she took a sip of her drink. She was kind of worried. Sure, Arcee had vowed over and over again that no harm would come to Jack. And June believed her. But the idea of her only son getting involved in a war... Well, she would be lying if it didn't worry her to no end. What parent wouldn't be worried? Standing up and found herself going to her garage. Without thinking about it she opened the door, and was surprised to see the Autobot in question staring back at her.
"June." Arcee greeted. June blinked.
"Arcee, I thought you'd be at the Autobot base?" June said.
Arcee shook her head. "No, things have been quiet at the base, and I trust that if something happened to they would contact me." June nodded her head, and stepped further into the garage.
"Are you okay?" Arcee asked, tilting her head to the side. Looking down at the woman in question as she sat down on Jack's work table.
Forcing a smile to her face June nodded. "Today was just grueling, and I didn't really get any sleep last night."
That caught Arcee's attention. "Because of what happened?" She nodded again, and Arcee felt a pang of sympathy for the woman, but it was quickly replaced by anger at what both MECH and Airachnid had done. "I'm sorry." Arcee said, crouching down to place a hand on the woman's shoulder. June placing her hand over it, smiling up at the Autobot.
Silence permeated between the two, until June looked away. Taking a sip of her drink she looked to Arcee once more. "So, Arcee." She spoke after a while. "Since you and I are going to..." she trailed off, thinking for a moment. "Kind of be in each others lives why don't you tell me about yourself?" June said.
Arcee thought for a moment before looking down at June once more. "Only if you do the same."
"Deal."
Sharing another smile the two of them talked well into the night, learning everything there was about each other. June learned about Arcee, and her life on Cybertron, Tailgate. Her arrival on Earth with the late Cliffjumper and her burning hatred for the Decepticon Airachnid above all others. While Arcee had learned about June's early life, how she was an only child, much like Jack. About how she had always wanted to help people even at such a young age.
To working and studying to become a nurse. To meeting Jack's father which lead to a short time dating and soon being married. But the marriage didn't last long as soon as June and her husband had found out that June was pregnant. And it soon ended in divorce. And that last time she had heard from her ex-husband he was living it up somewhere with some twenty-something and choosing to have nothing to do with June or Jack.
Good riddance, June thought, placing the empty glass down beside her. She didn't need him in her life, she had enough to deal with.
"And there's no one else in your life?" Arcee inquired. "Romantically, that is."
June shook her head. "No time, I mean I have some friends but we all lead busy lives, and honestly I'm not really interested in romance anymore." June told her. "I mean I did the whole dating thing back when Jack was little but other than that nothing really."
Arcee nodded, and leaned against the wall, arms wrapped around her knees.
"What about you?" June asked.
"Me?" Arcee asked, arching an optic brow at her. "Do you..." June trailed off. "Cybertronian's have romantic relationships|?"
Did she really just ask her that? June mentally kicked herself for that as Arcee sat there silent for a while, optics fixed on the woman, watching as she shifted slightly.
"We do..." Arcee trailed off, a faraway look in her blue and pink optics. "Tailgate..."
Sorrow gripped June. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have pried." She told him.
"It's okay." Arcee told her, offering June a faint smile. But June could see the sorrow shining in her optics. His death still hurt June could tell. "It was a long time ago."
June nodded, before checking her watched. Noting that it read 2:30AM. Had time really gone that fast? Yawning June stood up, stretching her arms above her head. "Well, it's been fun." June said, looking up at Arcee once more.
"But you got to work in the morning." Arcee finished for her, smiling.
Nodding June picked up her glass, and headed for the door, wishing Arcee a goodnight before heading to bed.
"Goodnight, June." Arcee said, as the door closed, leaving her alone once more. The Autobot soon drifting off to a deep recharge soon after. Dreams of Tailgate and what they once had filling her mind.
Authors Notes- And thus concludes Chapter Two of Kindred Spirits. I know it seems kinda boring but I hope you enjoyed it. And this is The Exhausted Writer signing off. Have a good day.
