Rescue at Area 99
Back in the mansion, Chris was calling on the phone from the balcony while Gear and Sprocket watches him. Sonic was on the roof resting.
"Oh, this picture has been a disaster, darling! A complete disaster! We've had to stop shooting because there's been torrential rain for days so there's nothing I can do besides sit and wait. I don't think I'll be back 'til late next week at the earliest. But I had plenty of time to go shopping and I'm having lots of wonderful presents that I hope you'll like them. They're coming on daddy's jet so you should have them tonight!" a female voice said from the phone
"Thanks, Mom. Mom, there's something I have to - well, there's something I did which I'm kinda not supposed to." Chris said
"Christopher, what happened?! Are you all right?!" asked his mother with worry in her voice
"Yeah, I'm totally fine. But remember about how you've said about that I'm not allowed to swim at night and how you wanted me to stay away from the adult pool?" Chris told his mother
"Did you go swimming in the adult pool at night all by yourself?!" Chris' mom asked
"Um, well... not exactly. You see, there is these... cats in the pool and I got them out. I even saw a toy robot under the pool also so I took it out." Chris said as he looks at Sonic and then at Gear and Sprocket.
Sprocket looks at Gear who shrugs his shoulders in response.
"Oh, you have a big heart just like I do. Next time, ring for Mr. Tanaka and he'll take care of it, all right? Oh darling, I must run. Kiss mummy goodbye" Chris' mother said as she and Chris both kiss the phone. "Ciao, sweetheart."
As Chris' mother hung up, Sonic jumped to the balcony
"You do know that I am a fox right?" Gear asked
"Yeah. I'm a hedgehog, not a cat!" Sonic corrected
"And I am especially not a toy, Christopher" Sprocket said
"Sorry. Please don't be mad. You see, my mom wouldn't understand." Chris replied
"Why wouldn't she?" Sonic asked
"Well first of all, she knows that I wouldn't risk diving into a pool in the middle of the night just to save a little hedgehog, a little fox, and a robot." Chris replied
"Really?" asked Sonic
"What else could I say to her? I couldn't tell it that I saved a blue talking hedgehog, a yellow talking fox, and a small robot. That reminds me! Where and when did you guys learn how to talk?" Chris asked curiously
"Good question. Unfortunately, I don't have a very good answer because I don't remember." Sonic said
"Yeah. I don't remember either. Must've happened a long time ago" Gear added
"Let's just say that from where we're from, the animals are actually capable of talking and also some robots" Sprocket points out
"I see" Chris said until the phone rings again making him answer it. "Hello?"
"Chris, is everything alright!" asked a man's voice from the phone
"Hey dad, how are you?" Chris asked
"I'm fine but your mother just called and told me that you made an emergency rescue last night. I guess our security system can't protect against stray cats that decide they want to go for a midnight swim or a toy that accidentally fell in. Chris, I know you like animals but what you did was dangerous. Were you hurt? Did the cat scratch you while you were trying to save it? And are you taking care of that toy you took out of the pool" asked Chris' father
"No scratches at all. I'm fine, Dad. Honest, I am. It wasn't really that big a deal. After I jumped in and got it out of the water, it was really happy. I can tell. And don't worry about that toy. I'm sure I'll fix it up as good as new" Chris told his father on the phone
Gear and Sprocket both looked at each other as Chris said that
"Yeah, gotcha, yeah-" Chris's father replied
"Besides, I could've had Grandpa or Ella or Mr. Tanaka to help me if I needed to. Don't worry, Dad. They're taking good care of me." Chris said on the phone
"Yeah, they better be. Listen, Chris. I've got an important meeting to run to. You call me anytime if you need anything and no more late night swims, promise?" Chris's father asked
"Okay, Dad. I promise. See ya soon." Chris said before hanging up. Sonic sighs of boredom. Just then, Gear's stomach begins to growl.
"Oh, sorry. I haven't eaten anything as of today" Gear said while blushing in embarrassment.
"I almost forgot about that. I was thinking you guys might like to have something to eat." Chris said. "Although, robots don't eat if I remember right"
"You are not wrong" Sprocket said
"I guess I could go for something to eat. What's on the menu?" Sonic asked as he also feels like eating.
"I checked out hedgehogs on the internet and found the perfect thing." Chris answered as he holds a bowl with brown strange looking food in front of the blue hedgehog. Sonic samples one of them, but then gags at bit
"What is this stuff?" he asked
"Cat food" Chris replied
"Uggghhh! No wonder it tastes like there's cat in it!" Sonic said in disgust
"Technically, that food is something only cats like" Sprocket replied
"Thank you for that, Sprocket" Sonic said
"By the way, I also looked up on what foxes eat, Gear." Chris told Gear
"Really? What is it?" the fox mechanic asked
"They would often eat bugs, fruits and berries" Chris replied
"Hmm. I would like to eat some fruits and berries. But bugs? Eww" Gear said in disgust
"No bugs. Got it" Chris said before turning to Sonic. "The website I went to said most hedgehogs love cat food. I guess that doesn't go for all hedgehogs. I can get you a bowl of crickets."
Sonic knocks the bowl of cat food away. He then proceeds to leap off the balcony and into a tree.
"No! Please don't run away!" Chris yelled
"Sorry kid, but crickets don't do it for me!" Sonic replied
"Where will you go?" Gear asked
"Somewhere where I can find some good food to eat. Don't worry. I'll be back. See you later!" Sonic said before leaping off the tree and speeding off
"Come back! Sonic, you could get hurt out there!" Chris called
"Do not worry, Christopher. I am sure Sonic will be back soon" Sprocket said to him
"Are you sure?" Chris asked
"Oh yeah. Knowing him, he'll always find his way back. I just know it" Gear said as he looked where Sonic has raced off
"You must really look up to Sonic, do you Gear?" Chris asked
"You have no idea. I have always idolized him when I was young. His actions is what inspires me to be a hero like him." Gear replied confidently
Chris was amazed by what he said
"Wow. I guess Sonic really does have that affect on some people" he replied
"Uh huh. So, about the fruit and berries. Will you bring me some?" Gear asked
"Sure thing" Chris said as he went inside
After Sonic comes back to the mansion, he along with Chris, Gear, and Sprocket were seen watching TV in the living room. Sonic was eating some crisp he found while Gear was eating some fruit that Chris has given him. On the television screen, the news was showing a footage of Sonic, Gear, and Sprocket's race in the highway.
"The supersonic speed demon along with a fox and robot on a strange vehicle was seen here on the police helicopter video has the city baffled." a reporter said
"They were about this high, one of them was blue and the other one was yellow. And they look like a freaks! Not to mention the fact there is also a puny robot with them. That is also strange." A police officer said
" I was doing about 60 when this thing went "wooo" right by me and those other two followed after him on some kind of hovercraft!" a witness said
"That blue thing moved too fast to be a regular animal!" another witness reported "Though I can't say the same for the yellow one and that small robot toy"
"As to the question of whether these are an UMA, Unidentified Mutant Animals, it is positively not. Even the cheetah, which is widely believed to be the fastest member of the animal kingdom, cannot outrun a speeding Formula One police car. Because of this, the inescapable conclusion one must inevitably come to is that this so-called "hedgehog" and "fox" is, in reality, a machine along with the small robot." said a scientist
'He thinks were machines?' thought Gear
Then, an elderly man came into the living room.
"There you are! Guess what?! A big blue hedgehog, a big yellow fox, and a small robot came out of nowhere and outran the S-Team yesterday!" he said to Chris until he noticed Sonic, Gear, and Sprocket. As Sonic and the old man looked at each other close up, Chris put two pillows on both Sonic and Gear and Sprocket.
"Hey, cut it out, I can't breathe!" Sonic said under pillow
"Chris, you're suffocating us!" Gear added
Then Sonic and Gear both pushes the pillows off of them.
"Thank you. I was starting to feel crushed under there" Sprocket said
"Blue, yellow, and a talking robot. Just like on" the old man said. He then gasped. "It's them!"
Easy, grandpa!" Chris said
As the old man seizes Sonic, Gear grabs Sprocket and quickly leaps out of the way before he can grab them. The old man then took out a screwdriver
"Grandpa, what are you doing?!" Chris cried out
"I have to see how these things is put together!" Chris' grandfather said as he begins to put the screwdriver over Sonic's back which tickles him. Sonic then leaps out of his grasp and lands in front of Gear and Sprocket.
"Stand Still!" Chris' grandpa yelled
"Grandpa, wait! Two of them are not machines! They're Sonic the Hedgehog and Gear the Fox. And the robot with them is Sprocket" Chris explained
"He is correct, sir." Sprocket said as he walks up "Sonic and Gear are both organic. I am the only machine in this room"
The old man was shocked as he drops his screwdriver
"Now let's go live to this late-breaking story." the reporter said from the T.V.
Everyone looked at the T.V. to see Cream and Cheese stuck on a billboard as firefighters came up and rescue them.
"Please!" cried Cream "Please, leave us alone!"
"It's Cream and Cheese!" Sonic said
"Two of your friends from our world right?" Gear asked
"Uh huh" Sonic said
"Hey! What are you doing!? Get your hands off of me?!"
Gear turns to and looks in shock to see Tika being taken away by some police officers
"That's Tika!" Gear yelled
"Who!?" Sonic, Chris, Chris' grandfather, and Sprocket asked
"She's my childhood friend from back home." Gear explained
"I see" Sprocket replied
"Looks like we're not the only ones that got transported into this weird world after all" Sonic said "I'll save those three"
Sonic then raced outside with Gear and Sprocket following after him
"Sonic wait!" Gear called out
Chris also came outside
"Do you even know where they are?" he asked
This caused Sonic to immediately skid to a halt. He then raced back and shrug his shoulders as he doesn't know where they are
"Sonic, I understand that you want to save them. But we need to figure out where they are first before you and Gear go out in the world" Sprocket told the blue hedgehog
"Sprocket's right, buddy. There will be times when you'll have to slow down and think of a strategy" Gear points out
"Oh alright" sighed Sonic
The group was now in the mansion's garage where Chris' grandfather is calling on a phone.
"I thought they probably do something along those lines. Well, thanks very much for giving me the scoop and I'll talk to you soon." he said before hanging up "Well it seems like both Sonic and Gear's friends have been captured by the police and moved to Area 99."
"Area 99?! That's that top-secret military base!" Chris cried
"What kind of location is Area 99?" Gear asked confused
"It's where the national defense force keeps all their tanks, fighter jets, and high-tech spy equipment." explained Chris
"That sounds like Eggman's kind of place!" Sonic said
"Indeed" Sprocket said
"Especially the part with the high-tech spy equipment they have there" Gear added
"Your friends have been taken there by the army and placed under 24-hour guard. The authorities believe they could be aliens or perhaps members of a mutant species developed by an enemy power designed to attack our population. I wonder if they might not be right, Sonic, eh?" Chris' grandfather explained
"Think what you want! I'm gone! Now I know where my friends are, I'm outta here!" Sonic said with a shrug of his shoulder and begins to walk outside.
"Are you sure this is wise, Sonic?" Sprocket asked in worry
"No sweat. All I have to do is speed into this Area 99, rescue our friends and get out before anyone notices" Sonic said
"But if you show up at Area 99, they'll lock you up too!" Chris warned
"Yeah. I would reconsider this plan if I were you, Sonic. I really don't think this is a good idea" Gear added
"Don't worry, you guys. They can't lock me up" Sonic replied as he was nearing the exit. But before he can leave, the garage door immediately shuts on him.
"Hey! Open that door!" the blue hedgehog demanded
"Don't look at me, I didn't do it!" Chris yelled
"Me too. My hands are clean!" Gear added
"I did not do it either" Sprocket replied
"Heh, it was me! You're going to need some help, Sonic. I'll go with you!" Chris' grandfather replied
"Grandpa, are you serious?!" Chris asked in disbelief
"Of course I'm serious and you're coming along, too. You told me you don't want to live a boring life like your father so here's your chance for some excitement!" Chris' grandfather said
"Well, if you're up for it, I'm up for it! Just don't tell Dad!" Chris replied
"Count us in too" Gear said as he and Sprocket step up. "Consider this my first rescue mission"
"I myself can also provide some assistance to locating our allies in Area 99" Sprocket
"Alright, let's get going!" Chris' grandfather exclaimed
The group was then seen riding in car towards Area 99. Chris and his grandfather were in the front seats while Sonic, Gear and Clank are in the back seats.
'I have to admit. This is much comfortable than my scooter. I wonder where it is' thought Gear as he was enjoying the car ride
"It's gonna take forever to get there! I rather just go by myself!" Sonic grumbled
"Chill out!" Chris' grandfather said
"Patience, Sonic. We should be there soon" Sprocket added
"Is it time?" asked Chris his grandfather
"It's time" the old man replied
Chris then hands both Sonic and Gear two scopes with red lens
"Here. Put these on" he said as he gestures towards his head
"What are these?" Sonic asked as he and Gear put them on their heads
"Infrared Scopes. I'm certain that Area 99 is full of infrared motion detectors that set off security alarms. If you wear that, you may be able to avoid them." Chris' grandfather told them
"Thanks for that, Chuck. This could come in handy" Gear said
"Well, we're off" Sonic as he stood up and looks at his two new friends. "Are you coming, you two?"
"You go on ahead, buddy" Gear replied "We'll meet you at the front"
"Okay. See you there" Sonic said as he leaps off the car and ran ahead
"He certainly is a speedy little critter, isn't he?" Chuck asked
"That's Sonic for ya" Gear said
Chuck then steps on the gas pedal to speed after the blue hedgehog. Gear and Sprocket both were pushed back against their seat
"Whoa!" they cried as they were speeding up
Meanwhile, Tika was lying unconscious. She then begins to stir as she slowly begins to open her eyes. She groans as she begins to rub her head
"What happened?" she asked
"Hey. Are you alright?"
Tika turns to see Cream and Cheese in front of her
"Oh hello. Yes I feel okay. Sort of" Tika answered "My name is Tika. What's yours?"
"My name is Cream and this is my Chao friend, Cheese. It is nice to meet you, Tika" Cream said as she introduced herself and Cheese
"Chao chao" Cheese greeted
"The pleasure is all mine" Tika said before turning to see that she and Cream and Cheese are inside some kind of glass container. Tika also noticed that there are some people in white coats looking at a monitor.
"What is this place?" the light blue echidna asked as two cameras begin to scan both her and Cream and Cheese
"We didn't do anything, please let us out" Cream begged
The people in lab coats where taking a look at both Tika and Cream's heat signatures on the monitor
"I don't know what they plan to do us, but we got to find a way out of here" Tika said
Cream and Cheese both watched what the people in the coats with fright.
Back outside, Sonic was running ahead with Chuck, Chris, Gear, and Sprocket coming after him
"Sonic, can you hear me?" Chris asked through a communicator
"Yep" Sonic answered
"Remember, when you, Gear, and Sprocket get to the main building, go in through an air vent. That should be a blind spot for security. Got it?" he asked
"Got it!" Sonic answered
"Roger that, Chris" Gear replied
"Yes. We hear you, Christopher" Sprocket added
"But grandpa, once they get inside, how will they find where their friends are?" Chris asked his grandfather
"Give me that!" Chuck said as he takes the communicator from his grandson. "Listen to me, Sonic! Once you, Gear, and Sprocket head inside, you won't have much time so you'll have to hurry and think fast!"
"Thanks for the tip. Gear, Sprocket meet me in the front" Sonic said as he head to the front of Area 99
"Right" Gear said "Come on Sprocket"
When he said that, Gear grabs Sprocket and leaps out of the car while attaching Sprocket to his back as a backpack. Sprocket's hands were on his side and his feet were tucked in. The fox mechanic then runs towards Area 99
"I find this a little embarrassing" Sprocket said
"It was Chuck's idea, Sprocket. Don't worry. You'll get use to it" Gear assured as he runs towards the entrance to meet up with Sonic
Once they got to the entrance, Sonic was waiting for them
"About time. What kept you?" the blue hedgehog asked
"Hey. I don't have superspeed like you" Gear retorted
"Sorry. So, ready to do this?" Sonic asked
"Oh yeah. You ready Sprocket?" Gear asked his robot friend
"Always" Sprocket responded
"Okay. We're going in" Sonic said as he leaps over the front gate
Gear used his wrist grapple to pull himself up to the gate and climbs over it. Once they were over the gate, Sonic, Gear and Sprocket then ran through the field. While Sonic sped through, Gear tried his best to keep up. As they were doing that, some security cameras begin to sense their presence
"Intruder alert, sector D. Intruder alert, sector D."
"I am detecting an air vent up ahead" Sprocket said
"Good eye Sprocket" Gear said
"Here we go" Sonic added
Sonic leaps into the vent while Gear athletically follows after. The three friends begin to slide down
"Gear to Chris. We are inside the air vent" Gear said through his scope
"You, Sprocket and Sonic be careful, Gear" Chris said
Sonic then reaches the bottom with Gear bumping into them causing them to grunt. They then rub their bottoms from the sliding
"It feels like I have skid marks on my butt." Sonic said
"Me too. I should've worn pants" Gear said before looking behind him. "Are you doing okay back there, Sprocket?"
"Never better" Sprocket replied
Sonic looked through his scope to see some security lasers in front of them. Gear peaks from behind Sonic to see the lasers as well
"How's it looking there, guys?" Chris asked through the communicator
"Just great" Sonic replied before seeing a grate. He gestures to his friends to come over.
"Looks like we found our way in" Gear said
"You said it. This will be piece of cake!" the blue hedgehog said before grabbing the grate and moving it. Peeking inside, Sonic jumps down quietly with Gear and Sprocket jumping down next to him. Sonic shushes them as they landed.
"According to the layout that Chuck has given us, Area 99 has tight security. I recommend that we be cautious about our approach" Sprocket said
"Right. I'll go scout ahead. I'll signal you when it's safe to follow. Use your athletic moves to avoid the cameras" Sonic said
"Got it" Gear said
Sonic looks at a surveillance camera and then begins to zig-zag through the corridor while leaning against the wall to check the cameras. Once he is at a corner, he signals Gear to come over. Gear saw through his scope some lasers from the security cameras.
'Okay. Here goes nothing' he thought
Gear athletically moves through the room in zig-zag much like Sonic with Sprocket still attached to his back. He studied the movements of the camera before leaping ahead and pressing against the wall. Gear and Sprocket then makes it to Sonic
"Good work" Sprocket commented
"Yeah, Gear. Not bad" Sonic said while giving him a thumbs up
"Thanks, Sonic. Sprocket" Gear replied with a smile
"Ready to do it again?" asked Sonic
"Let's" Gear replied
Sonic, Gear, and Sprocket then continue to navigate through Area 99 while avoiding the cameras. Sonic went first be speeding in a zig zag while Gear athletically follows after.
Sonic, Gear, and Sprocket continue to navigate through Area 99. They both avoided the cameras while looking for their friends.
'Man, this place is tight. I wish I could just bash these cameras with my wrench. But I don't want to risk getting us caught' thought Gear as he continues to flip around the hallways while following Sonic.
Back in the laboratory, the researchers continue to do more scans on Tika, Cream and Cheese
"I don't like this..." Cream whimpered
"Chao" Cheese said
"Me neither" Tika said
Sonic, Gear, and Sprocket both peaked from a corner to see the door to the laboratory
"My sensors are indicating that your friends are being held in that very room" Sprocket said as Gear looks at the door
"You mean the door with the label that says 'Laboratory'?" asked Gear
"Yes" Sprocket said
"Hmm. It's not gonna be easy. If it was just me, I could get out quick. But if we're gonna bring Cream, Cheese and Tika with us, we can't get too reckless." Sonic said
Suddenly, the lights begin to shut off
"What just happened?" asked Gear
"It seems as though the power has been cut off" Sprocket said
"But how did that happened?" Gear asked
"Never mind that. Let's just get in their and rescue Cream, Cheese, and your girlfriend" Sonic said as he heads towards the door.
"Tika's not my girlfriend!" Gear said with a blush while following after him
Sneaking inside the laboratory, Sonic, Gear and Sprocket notices Tika, Cream, and Cheese in a large glass tube. Taking advantage of the researchers' confusion, they crept over. Tika, Cream, and Cheese saw them and they smile at seeing their friends. Gear put his finger on lips to signal them to be quiet and then takes out his MegaWrench. And then with a big swing, Gear breaks the tube allowing the girls and chao to escape. The researchers heard the noise and looks to see the tube broken and empty.
"What the-?!" a researcher cried
"Where'd they go!?" another researcher added
The friends then hid in a corner of the lab to keep out of their sight. Cream and Tika were happy to see their friends
"Sonic!" Cream said
"Gear!" Tika said
"Shhh!" Sonic, Gear, and Sprocket shushed them making them cover their mouths
Cheese then leaps onto Sonic and begins hugging his neck which tickles him. Unfortunately, this caused the researchers to hear them
"Over there!" the researcher yelled as they spot them
"Run for it!" Gear said as he grabs Tika's hand and runs out of the lab. Tika blushes a bit at Gear grabbing his hand
"You heard him. Let's go!" Sonic said as he hands Cheese to the little rabbit
"Right" Cream replied
They then follow after Gear, Sprocket, and Tika. In the hallway, the friends were running as fast as they can through the hallways
"Gear. What's going on? Where are we?" Tika asked
"Well, Tika. Let's just say that we got transported to another world by that bright light and we are in a military base called Area 99." the fox mechanic replied
"I see" the light blue echidna said before noticing Sprocket on his back. "And what's with this robot attached to your back?"
"This is my friend, Sprocket. Sprocket this is my childhood friend, Tika" Gear said as he introduced Sprocket to Tika
"It is a pleasure to meet you" Sprocket greeted
"Nice to meet you too, Sprocket" Tika replied
"Wow, Sonic! How did you and your new friends shut off all of the electricity?" asked Cream
"Me and Gear didn't do it, Cream. I guess it just happened" Sonic replied
"Maybe it just happened because you bring good luck everywhere you go, Sonic!" Cream said
"You might be right!" Sonic replied
"Is what she's saying true?" Tika asked Gear
"I don't know" the fox mechanic said with a shrug
Just then, the lights went back on causing everyone to stop in surprise. Then, the surveillance cameras looked at them
"Looks like they found a way to bring the power back" Gear said nervously
"I shouldn't have said anything. This must be a jinx!" Cream said blaming herself
"This isn't your fault." Sonic replied
"Yeah, Cream. You had nothing to do with this" Tika added
Then, the security cameras all open to reveal some laser blasters on the top. Everyone gasp as they saw this
"Uh oh!" Tika said
"I think we should go now" Sprocket said as he saw this from Gear's back
"I agree" Gear added
"Cream, hang on!" Sonic said
As the lasers fired at them, Gear and Tika rushes down the hall with Sonic following after while still holding Cream's hand with Cheese in tow.
Outside of Area 99, Chris and Chuck both heard the alarm
"Sonic, Gear, what's going on?! Are you and your friends alright?!" Chris asked through his communicator
"Not exactly" Sonic said as they continue running
"Whoa!" Gear yelled as he and Sprocket dodge a laser blasted at them. Tika dodges another one while running behind them.
Gear then took out his blaster and then begins to shoot at some of the cameras that are firing at them destroying some of them in the process.
"Wow" Cream said as she saw this
"Where did you get that blaster, Gear?" asked Tika
"Eggman's robot" Gear replied
"Hey good idea, buddy" Sonic said as he let's go of Cream
"Sonic!" Cream yelled
"Run!" the blue hedgehog ordered as he leaps up to a security camera and destroys it. He then leaps onto another one and uses it to destroy the other cameras.
"Wow. He's good" said Tika
"That's Sonic for ya" Gear replied
One of the cameras falls in front of Cream and Cheese which surprises them
"Don't just stand there. Keep moving" Sonic said
"You heard him. Let's go!" Gear said as he took the lead
"Right" Cream said as she, Cheese, and Tika follow after the fox mechanic and his robot companion
"D2 area lockdown in progress." said a computerized voice
"That can't be good" Tika said
"You're not kidding" Gear replied as he looks forward to see the doors closing
"The door! We can't make it out!" Cream shouted
Seeing this Sonic rushes to the rabbit and chao's aid
"Gear. The door is nearly closed" Sprocket said
"I know, Sprocket." Gear said "Tika, when I saw dive. We dive"
"Okay" Tika replied as they were getting closer
"Dive!" Gear yelled as he and Tika jumps and slid through the door while Sonic grabs Cream and Cheese and rushed through the door
"That was a close one" Sprocket says
"You said it, buddy" Gear added
"We're not out of here yet. Come on let's keep moving!" Sonic said as he runs ahead
Gear, Sprocket, and Tika follow after them. Unfortunately for them, the friends stop to see more cameras with lasers pointing at them. Before they can fire, Cream notices something ahead
"What are they?" she asked
Sonic, Gear, and Tika look to see a bunch of little paper airplanes coming in and knocking two cameras off their post and destroying the others as the friends look on.
"What just happened?" Tika asked
"It looks like a bunch of paper airplanes saved our lives" Gear replied
"That is a little strange" Sprocket commented
"What's going on?!" Cream asked
"We can't stick around to find out! Come on you guys!" Sonic said
"Right behind you!" Gear said as he, Sprocket, and Tika follow after them
The rushed over to another door before it completely closes. As they were going through the door, the power in Area 99 goes out again. Suddenly, some of the cameras begin to shoot randomly due to the paper airplanes controlling them. We now go to a staircase where Sonic, Cream, Cheese, Gear, Sprocket, and Tika were going up as the lasers continue firing.
"What's going on down there?" Tika asked
"It would seem that those planes are causing the cameras to fire their lasers uncontrollably" Sprocket said
"Which means we'll have to keep out of their shooting range" Gear added
"Sonic, are we going to make it out?" asked Cream
"Don't worry, we'll make it!" Sonic replied
Suddenly, a laser cut through the stairs. As they continue to go up, part of the stair to crumble from under Cream causing her and Cheese begin to fall. Luckily, Gear quickly grabs Cream by the right hand as she held Cheese
"Don't worry. I got you!" Gear said
"Thank you mister" Cream said gratefully
"No problem. And just call me Gear" the fox mechanic said as he begins to pull her up. Just as he got her up, Sonic sees the stairs in front of them cut by the laser and crumbles.
"Uh oh. We gotta go!" Sonic yelled as he picks up Cream and leaps up
"Take my hand, Tika" Gear said as he held his hand out to her
"What?" Tika asked flustered
"Just do it!" Gear yelled
Tika did what Gear said and grabs his hand. The young fox mechanic then shot his wrist mounted grapple to a part of the stairs and pulls them up. As Sonic was leaping from one broken stair to another, Gear did his best to keep up with his idol while holding onto Tika by shooting his grapple to each broken stair. They finally reached the top
"Phew. That was close" Gear said
"Indeed" Sprocket replied
"I know. I thought we were gonna be goners back there" Tika added
Sonic nods his head as them while looking at Cream and Cheese.
"See, Cream, I told you we'd make it, and we did! You didn't doubt me, did ya?" Sonic asked
Cream shook her head
"Thank you for saving us! All of you!" she said as she looks at both Sonic, Gear, Sprocket, and Tika
"I would also like to thank you for rescuing me too, Gear. You were really brave out there" Tika said to Gear
"Heh heh. Thanks" Gear said with a blush
"She's right, Gear. Not bad for your first mission" Sonic said as he gave the fox mechanic a thumbs up to which he returns
"Now the only question is: How to get out of here?" Sprocket said
Sonic then begins to hear something
"Huh, what's that?"
"What's wrong, Sonic?" Gear asked
"I thought I heard a plane." Sonic said before gasping. "The Tornado!"
"Tornado?" Gear, Sprocket, and Tika asked confused
"It's a plane owned by good buddy, Tails. He must be here to help us out" Sonic said with a grin.
Outside of Area 99, Tails was flying the Tornado 2 near the building
"This must be the place." he said
Sonic then smashes through the roof while holding Cream and Cheese.
"All right, Sonic!" Tails said
Gear, Sprocket then jumps through the hole with Tika following after them. As they all fall, Tails came in allowing Sonic, Cream and Cheese to land on the wing of his plane while Gear, Sprocket, and Tika land on the other wing.
"Hey Tails!" Sonic greeted
"Ha ha!" Tails said with a wave
"It was you! You are the one who helped us get out of there! Cream said
"I helped, but Sonic is the real hero!" Tails replied
"Hey. Don't forget about my new friends. They help too" Sonic said as he points to Gear and Sprocket
"Huh?" Tails puzzled as he looks at Gear and Sprocket. Gear, Sprocket, and Tika waved at him. "I see what you mean. Hang on tight everyone!"
'Wow. I can't believe I'm actually meeting another one of Sonic's friends' thought Gear with a smile
As Tails continue to fly the plane away while Chris and Chuck watch from their car
"Well, Chris, mission accomplished! Let's head for home!" Chuck said
Back at the garage near Chris' mansion, Chris was introducing himself to Sonic's friends along with Tika
"My name's Christopher. Sonic, Gear, and Sprocket landed in our swimming pool last night and I dove in and saved them." Chris greeted
"My name's Tails and I'm Sonic's very best buddy! Right, Sonic?" Tails asked his best friend
"Correct" Sonic answered
"My name is Cream and this is my very special Chao friend, Cheese. Thanks for having us." Cream said while introducing herself and her chao friend
"And my name is Tika. I am Gear's childhood friend" Tika greeted before winking at Gear which makes him blush a bit
"It's very nice to meet all of you. I have a feeling that we are going to become really good friends." Chris said
"That reminds me. Gear, Sprocket. I want to introduce you to some of my friends" Sonic said to the fox mechanic and the small robot "This is Tails, Cream, and Cheese. Guys, this is Gear and Sprocket. They stuck with me when I first came to this world"
"H-Hi" Gear greeted nervously
"Hello" Sprocket greeted while waving his hand
"Hi Gear and Sprocket. My name is Miles Prower. But you can call me Tails because of the two tails I have." Tails greeted "I also want to thank you both for helping out Sonic. I know that he always handles himself, but it's always nice for him to have new friends. And any friends of Sonic is a friend of ours"
"Thanks for that, Tails" Gear said
"Yes. Thank you" Sprocket added
"Hello Gear. Hello Sprocket. My name is Cream and this is my Chao friend Cheese" Cream said as she introduced herself and Cheese
"Chao chao" Cheese greeted
"It is good to officially meet you" Sprocket said
"What he said" Gear added
"I also want to thank you for rescuing us and Tika back there. You were really brave when you took out those cameras and when you helped Tika up the stairs" Cream said
"Thanks, Cream" Gear said as Sprocket nods his head
Tika then steps up
"Oh guys. This is my good friend, Tika." Gear said as he introduced her to Sonic and his friends. "Tika, you already met them, but I would like to reintroduce you to Sonic, Cream, Cheese, and Tails"
"It's nice to meet all of you" Tika said
"Nice to meet you too, Tika" Sonic greeted
"Hello Tika. Any friend of Gear and Sprocket's is a friend of mine" Tails said
"Even though we already met, it is good to meet you, Tika. I hope we become good friends" Cream said
"Aww. Thanks, Cream" Tika said
"Guys. Gear and Sprocket are going to be sticking with us while were in this world" Sonic said "Are you guys okay with that?"
Tails, Cream, and Cheese smile
"I don't mind. It's always good to have new friends especially a fellow fox like Gear" Tails said
"Me too. It'll be nice to have someone to play with" Cream said
"Chao chao" Cheese said
"Not only that, but I will train Gear to be a hero like me" Sonic said much to his friends surprise
"Really? You're gonna train him, Sonic?" Tails asked
"Uh huh. I've seen him in action during our time with each other and the rescue at Area 99. He is quite handy with that MegaWrench of his use of that blaster and grapplehook" Sonic explained
"It's true. It has always been my dream to be a hero just like Sonic. When I was growing up, I have always seen your battles against Dr. Eggman. You guys inspired me to be be more than just a mechanic. And although I may not be like Sonic, I will do my best to be a hero in my own way. That is if you guys want to help me" Gear said as he looks at Sonic and his friends
Tails, Cream, and Cheese look at each other and then smile as they look back at the fox mechanic
"Sure thing, Gear. I would love to help you train. You also say that you're a mechanic, right?" Tails asked to which Gear nods "Well, I'm pretty much of a mechanic myself. Maybe I can teach you what I know."
"Sure thing, Tails" Gear said
"Me too. Cheese and I will help you too, Gear" Cream said
"Chao chao" Cheese said
"I will also provide my assistance, Gear" Sprocket said "You helped me back in the forest and I will stick with you. Always" Sprocket said as he looked at his friend
"Don't forget about me" Tika said as she placed her hand on her shoulder. "You have my support, Gear. I said you can be a hero and now you can"
Gear smiled at this
"Then it's settled. Gear, we'll do our best to train you to be your own hero while we find a way back home" Sonic said
"Thanks everyone" Gear replied
"Now that that's over with. Everyone, this is my grandfather." Chris said as he introduces Chuck
"Extraordinary. Tiny, radio-controlled airplanes. Extraordinary." Chuck said as he was examining the tiny airplane
"We got lots of neat gadgets." Tails explained
"And that type of gadget really helped us back there" Gear said
"Thanks for that, Gear" Tails said
"Listen, Sonic! This isn't some game we're playing, you know. You could've gotten all of us thrown in jail!" Chris said as he scolds Sonic
"Maybe I could, but I didn't, did I? Plus Gear and Sprocket were a big help during our getaway" Sonic said
"That's true" Gear added
"But don't you think that was a little reckless?" asked Tika
"Tika's right. I'm glad that you guys were able to get out okay, but couldn't you try to be more careful?" Chris asked
"He is right. There is a high probability that we might not be so lucky next time" Sprocket points out
"Oh. Okay" sighed Gear
"This is an amazing piece of equipment. It goes beyond anything I have ever seen. How did you develop it?" Chuck asked the two-tailed fox
"It's nothing special. Not in the world we come from." Tails answered
"And where is exactly that world, Tails?" Chuck asked
"Beats me, but I think we got here through a warp in time and space." Tails replied
"Hmm, very interesting. Not very helpful, but interesting." Chuck
Tails then realizes something
"I just thought of something. If you and me and Cream and Cheese are here, maybe the others got here too." he said
"That may be true, Tails as Gear, Sprocket, and Tika are here as well. That means Amy and Knuckles are here too. And if you are right, that means, maybe..." Sonic said until his mind flashes back to Dr. Eggman.
"Eggman's here too!" Sonic, Cream, and Tails said. Gear, Sprocket, and Tika gasped
"You mean Doctor Eggman!? The evil scientist that you guys fought?!" the light blue echidna girl asked
"The very same" Tails replied
"Oh dear" Sprocket said
"Oh dear is right. If Doctor Eggman is in this world, who knows what trouble he'll cause here" Gear said with worry
Gear was right however as Doctor Eggman's fortress had somehow ended up on a deserted island somewhere in the world. A bunch of orb shaped robots were observing outside
"So, we were transported into this world by Chaos Control. Very well then, I'll rebuild the foundation of the Eggman Empire here, and soon I will rule the entire universe! Doctor Eggman declared as he laughs maniacally.
And that was the second episode of Sonic X: Gear & Sprocket. I hope you enjoy. One thing to note is that Sprocket's appearance will be similar to Clank's, but with four fingers instead of three.
