Piper

They all sat at the main table as Leo stood in front of them. He called all of them into a meeting in the middle of the night. As they came up the stairs, they saw a very disheveled and shaken Leo standing next to a tearful Annabeth. Leo was frantically getting through the story of their midnight excursion when he got near the end.

"And then um... they started talking about one of their bothers." Leo gave a sideways glance at Annabeth who was sitting silently at the table. Clearly one of the many secrets Annabeth was keeping from them had gotten revealed, but Leo, being respectful, moved on.

"That kind of directed the conversation to uh... Percy." Leo tampered off and Annabeth looked up at him. Recognizing his silent ask for approval, she started talking.

"They said they sent their 'best guy' after him. And they didn't have to worry about him anymore." Her voice choked. The ship went silent. It was clear to Piper now why Annabeth looked so shaken when they saw her. When Percy closed the doors, they all assumed he was dead. They saw how many monsters were on the other side of those doors. An army he would not be able to fight his way through. It was different all together to be explicitly told that he was most likely dead. It felt more real.

"So that's when they smelled us and we ran away." Leo finished. He stood their expectantly. Piper had an odd thought that he was waiting for a round of applause for his speech.

"Okay?" Jason finally said.

"Okay so we're going to Athens. They were going to ambush us at Olympus, so we can avoid that now." Leo said as if it were obvious.

"I think we should think about it." Jason spoke slowly.

"What's there to think about?" Leo asked. "He deliberately said that Olympus is a trap and the sacrifice is happening in Athens. How could we ignore that."

"I just think what Jason wants to say is that we should consider the fact that this was a trap. They said it so blatantly that maybe they wanted you to hear it. Maybe it is the other way around and they're tricking us." Frank's eyes bounced from Leo to Annabeth.

"And," Jason added, "who sent Annabeth the dream? Maybe they wanted her there."

"C'mon man. Don't do this." Leo seemed defeated.

"Do what? I'm raising solid questions." Jason's voice raised.

"Guys stop." Piper stood up. After questing with Leo and Jason and basically living together for months, the knew them both very well. They were both each other's best friend's, so that meant they fought like brothers. This was just another occasion, and Piper had to break it up.

"This isn't a fight you guys. Let's just calm down." Piper used a little charmspeak in her voice to smooth things over. Leo sat down, but Jason remained standing.

"Look, I'm not just going to change my entire plan because of one conversation you heard. This could be a trap. We'll have heightened security going to Olympus. If there's a sign of trouble, we'll go to Athens. Done." Jason said in a final sort of way. That's when Annabeth stood up.

"Who made you final decision maker?" She spoke. Hazel's eyes went wide. Annabeth hadn't spoken in that way, in a commanding sort of way, in a long time.

"I just want what's best for the team." Jason straightened his posture.

"You weren't there, Jason. You didn't hear them talk. It's not a trap." Annabeth said.

"How do you know that?" Jason's voice raised.

"Because they were confused by the decision. They were questioning Gaea, so they were terrified to be there." Annabeth exclaimed. Piper looked at Hazel and she shared in her amazement. Annabeth was standing up for herself.

"Look Annabeth. When you were gone, I had to step up and make a lot of decisions and trust me, it was not easy I'm just trying to chose the safe choice here. This option seems like a gamble here." His voice had gone almost soft in a way. Annabeth's eyes hardened.

"It wasn't easy? Was it not easy here, Jason? With your roof and four walls? Your three square meals a day? Must have been so hard for you." Annabeth began to voice her pent up anger. Anger with Jason. Anger with Percy. Anger with Gaea.

"I don't want to fight." Jason's voice became as hard as Annabeth's.

"No, I bet you don't. You don't want to fight, you just want me to go along with your choice. A choice that will get us all killed. No. Let's fight Jason. Let's fight about it." Annabeth was dangerously calm. Leo was staring at Annabeth with a mixture of pride and happiness.

"We have no way of knowing this isn't a trap." Jason looked as if he hated Annabeth.

"I do." Annabeth said simply. "I may not have powers like the rest of you. But reading people? That is my power. I read their expressions, their tones, their words. This is not a trap Jason. You can't trust that? Trust me."

"How can you put me in this position?" Jason asked her.

"I'm not. We're going to vote." Annabeth looked at everyone else in the room. Piper felt a sudden weight on her chest. She stared between Annabeth and Jason, two of the people she trusted and loved most in the world.

"I'm sorry Annabeth. I just don't trust the giants. They're... tricky." Frank stood up and walked next to Jason.

"I think everyone knows where I'm going." Leo stood next to Annabeth. "Sorry Jason." He added.

"I just..." Hazel whispered. "I'm so scared of making the wrong decision here. We planned for Olympus. We have strategies for the landscape. I don't... I don't know. I'm just scared to change everything. So, I guess I'm on the Olympus side." Hazel scooted towards Frank.

Jason looked at Piper. Of course it all came down to her. Jason's eyes were filled with trust and love. He didn't doubt at all that she would side with him. But she wasn't sure. Annabeth felt so passionate about this that she actually spoke up for herself. That's not nothing. And Leo. He mainly hovered in the middle of the group, leaning towards whichever side would cause less waves. He had other issues to deal with than politics. So if he was standing firm, that meant something as well. Whatever they heard convinced them. Piper wasn't about to ignore that.

"Jason, I'm sorry." Piper whispered. His eyes reflected betrayal. "I believe them. I'm sorry." She stood next to Annabeth. A tie.

"What do we do now?" Hazel looked terrified.

"We'll think it over the night and vote tomorrow morning." Piper said. Jason was refusing to look her in the eye.

"Greeks and Romans." Annabeth gave a humorless laugh as she looked at the two divided sides. "Percy would have been ashamed of us."

And she turned on her heel and walked away.
