Chapter 23
Inuyasha walks into the kitchen to see Kagome coming from the hallway that leads to their bedrooms. "I just put Moroha down for her nap." Kagome informs him quietly. She notices the hard drive. "Did Riku give that to you?" She asks him as she takes a sit on one of the bar stools. Inuyasha nods as he pull out the laptop in his messenger bag that he uses for his missions. "Yeah. According to him, he doesn't trust the email system because it can get hacked. So he decide to send over the information with this." Inuyasha answers casually before plugging into the laptop's usb outlet.
As soon as the hard drive plugged in, a folder shows up on the screen. Kagome leans over Inuyasha's shoulder to get a good look. "I wonder what he found out?" She asks to him. Inuyasha double clicks the lone file that was inside the folder. The application opens up to reveal some interesting information.
"Whoa." Kagome is shocked to see what the document has. "This is a list of the phone numbers that have been pinged by the cell phone satellite system." She adds in.
Inuyasha gets in closer to see that there are three numbers on the list interacting with each other by both text messaging and calling. Not just that, but the responds of the text messaging is with 15-20 seconds apart. From what they can see that there have been a conversation between the three of them for about a year.
"Do you still have the numbers of the individuals at the school?" Inuyasha asks her. Kagome nods as she gets to her iPad and looks through the database of the school. "Ok, so far I'm on the contact list. Which numbers does the list have?" She asks him desperately.
Inuyasha gives the first number. Kagome looks through the list. "Ok, that one belongs to Mrs. Kohori." She said as she writes down the name of the first number. Inuyasha goes back to his search. "Ok the next one is this one." He points to the number. Kagome does her part to look up to see that it belongs to Mr. Benimoto. "Oh no. You don't think that…" Kagome couldn't finish her sentence. Inuyasha looks at the third number. "Then the third one is the Purifier." He confirms it. "It's Misako."
Kagome leans back a little. "We had this all wrong." She puts her elbows on to the table with her face down in shame with her hands holding it in place. Inuyasha doesn't seem to get it. How could Misako be the Purifier. "Something doesn't add up." He said to her after a short pause. Kagome turns her attention to him. "We were told that Misako was somewhere else when the terrorist attacked."
"Maybe she hired someone to be the Purifier instead of getting her hands dirty. That way no one would suspect her to be the culprit." Kagome obviously guesses. "Possible. She might've hired someone who knows about such a thing. We only assumed it was Mihoko or Dr. Jurino that was the Purifier." Inuyasha leans back after his idea.
"What you were able to gather was the Mihoko was doing disguises while being at the hospital because of Moroha. You were able to find that out through the security system there." Kagome points out. Inuyasha nods. "No doubt about it. That's why we have her in for questioning about that. And then you were able to pin Dr. Jurino in front of Moroha. Which got her curious about the moves you did." Inuyasha said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"And then we had to go see her the other day because of the medicine she wrote for the pharmacy. What she did was endangered Moroha as well as awaken her demon blood. We didn't see this coming. We had to confront her about it." Kagome said in the same way.
"But then wouldn't there be something missing from this case?" Kagome asks him. Inuyasha glances at her. "Like what?" Kagome hmms for a few seconds. "Nowadays, with the technology so advanced that cell phones would a have a tracking system that no one would even bother asking when they get a new phone from time to time." She said to him curiously.
That made Inuyasha realize something. "You're right. So far we're able to ping the numbers of cell phone records that we need to know where exactly they've been. We only have the three teachers from the school. What we need are the doctor and Mikoho. Maybe that will help get us closer to solving this case."
Kagome had to make a huge poster board, more than one than she thought to make one big enough for her and Inuyasha to do this part. So far, Kagome laid out the chart for which number belong to which teacher. Inuyasha has to sneak into Moroha's bedroom to grab her markers. He peeks into the room to see her dead sleep. He couldn't help but smile in a fatherly way. 'We'll be a real family soon.' He thinks to himself as he spots the kiddie desk with the box of markers on it.
He is able to take the box. "Daddy." Moroha asks even though her eyes are still closed. Inuyasha mentally chuckles. "Go back to sleep." He murmurs to her. "But I can't." Moroha opens her eyes to see him. "What are you going to do with my markers?" She pushes herself up before getting out of her bed. "Your mom and I are going to use them for work." Inuyasha simply answers.
"Do is have to do with the mean doctor?" Moroha tilts her head cutely. Inuyasha knew for sure that Moroha would do anything to help them out. "Pretty sure. In fact, it's more like a game." Inuyasha asks her.
Moroha immediately smiles. "Oh, oh, oh I wanna play. How does this work?" She hops up and down. Inuyasha picks her up and the box of markers. "It's called catch the bad guy." Moroha loves to play games. Inuyasha knows that if he says the word 'game' Moroha always wants to be part of it no matter what.
Kagome draws the layout of the school. She sees Inuyasha with Moroha in his arm. "Moroha, sweetie, you should be asleep." Kagome gently scolds her as she gets Moroha into her arms. "I couldn't sleep because I smelt daddy coming in to get my markers for the game that you two are going to play. I wanna play too. Can I?" Moroha asks Kagome sweetly.
Kagome raised her one brow. "Really, Inuyasha? You do know the drill if you say that word to her."
Inuyasha shrugged his shoulders. "Yeah. I know. But what can I say or do. Kiddo here wants to help play this game. You ready." He smiles to his daughter. Moroha nods. "Ok, this game is call 'Catch the Bad Guy.'."
Kagome shakes. "Lame name if you ask me."
Inuyasha laguhs at the joke. "It was the only name that made sense. Besides, that's the goal. The title says it all. Which color do you want to be, Moroha." He puts the box on the floor for her to reach it. "I'll be purple." She pulls out the purple marker.
"I'll do red." Inuyasha pulls the red one out.
"I'll go for the green." Kagome gets the green marker out of the box.
"Ok. Now we have three people to choose from. To make this easy for you Moroha, we'll going to use the last number of the cell phone numbers that one of them is the bad guy." Inuyasha puts the three pieces of paper. One, four, and seven."
"I love seven, because it's my birthday number." Moroha said as she cutely write the number seven with her pink marker. Kagome choses the number four and writes that number down on her piece of paper with her green marker. That leaves Inuyasha with the number 1 as he writes it in red.
"So how is it that we catch the bad guy?" Moroha asks eagerly.
Kagome shows the board to her on the easer stand. "This here is where the bad guy is hiding. In order to find he or she we have to put a dot on this board. The only problem of this game is that none of us know who that bad guy is. It could be me, you, or daddy. So we have to figure it out." Kagome can see how Moroha is getting into this game. She had to make sure that board is drawn as the school that she and Inuyasha were stationed in for their mission. "So in order for use to move our characters, we draw a line, wherever the spot is on the board. Each one will take a turn." Kagome explained the rules of the game.
"So it's like Clue." Inuyasha points out. Kagome nods. "Yeah, but the difference between this game and Clue is that we don't have the weapon used." She said to him. Moroha has played Clue couple of times lately. "And this game has a time per character. For example, the one character hasn't moved at all, or it goes around the board. And Riku will give each of us a point in time for which direction the character goes."
On cue, Riku comes into the house. "Sorry, I'm late. I've been busy making this game for you, Moroha." Riku smiles down at her. He has his laptop out and shows the board on the tv so that the players can see where they go throughout the game. "Ok, ready?" He asks the family. Little does Moroha knows that she's going to help her mom and dad solve a mystery via through a simple game.
