The sun shone brightly in the sky about the city of Manhattan. What happened last night for ninety nine percent of the population merely seems like a strange dream they had. Being something and having memories of being gargoyles from the moment they were hatched. This was not a thing they would recall at all thanks to Puck using the counter spell that altered reality back to the way it was before his first one was used.
Though that was only for ninety nine percent of the population that was within the city at the time. Thanks to someone having removed the aspect that prevents reality from striking back when such a massive reality altering spell was used. There was one percent of people that were still gargoyles as they were either protected from the counterspell by a barrier, just not within the city limits when it was cast, or it just did not work on them for some strange reason. Thus this one percent of people were currently in their stone sleep just like Goliath and the rest of the Manhattan clan as well.
Then there was Elisa who was not part of the one percent that was not able to be turned back into a human for various reasons. Since the spell used on her was different than the one that was used on the city at large. Which would explain why when the counterspell used for the city was cast it did not affect her. After all, if they were the same spell then a spell to turn back all the gargoyles that were once human back into their previous state. It would have been effective on her since she was a gargoyle that was previously human after all.
Although that one percent of Manhattan's population was now gargoyles. There was not that big of a panic going on because reality fixes this problem itself. It would make some sense that reality could alter itself without any outside help to some degree after all. Why would spell to alter reality exist if the ability to do so was not a natural one already. Most things are based on something that already exists in the first place. Nothing is completely new and original it gets in inspiration from something natural that has always exist well before it had.
The ability to alter reality maybe just a stronger and more refined version of what could accord naturally. When using reality altering spells and magic one could just strengthen reality's natural ability to do so. This could explain why those that were turned into gargoyles had their entire life altered so that they always thought they were gargoyle rather than a human. However, the extent to which reality could alter itself naturally was limited though. For the one percent of the Manhattan that was now gargoyles, their memories were altered along with everyone else to fix into the way things were now. It was not more an adjustment to certain things on their part and to that of those around them to make so that they exist within the city. However, while they now exist in Manhattan it was made so that at least in everyone's memories they were not general public knowledge to the humans.
There would still be some chaos the following night though as memories could be altered but things could not just be created out of nothing. So items that currently exist only in their memories do not exist in reality just yet. The knowledge to create them is still there but the items themselves, there will be many gargoyles wondering where it is. That being a magical item that allows a gargoyle to appear human thus blending in with the human population at night. It was this magical item in the now altered memories of everyone aware of Manhattan's one percent gargoyle count that allowed them to remain hidden from everyone else view.
Oliver, his uncle Niles, and Ray's guardian were still in place inside his shop however they were seen as out of place though. Niles had set up so that everyone would just think of any gargoyle there as merely part of the store's decorations and nothing more. Niles did run a comic book like a store so having a few decorations like a gargoyle statue was not seen as that out of place. As for those he had run the store during the day it was some humans he trusted to run the store for him as his daytime employees. Seeing as he owns not just the store but the entire building itself.
Ray herself was a unique case as someone who ended up merging with the prototype armor she was attempting to steal. Becoming a fully robotic gargoyle version of herself. A fully sentient robot that still apparently had a robotic side to her though. Though originally unable to leave the storage area where the original prototype gargoyle armor was held along with the Steel clan(stolen by her former friends and member of her fan club group). She had been given orders by someone and went to wherever they had ordered to go.
As for her former friends they were not as lucky as Ray was though. Sure they did not get their memories altered when their bodies were turned into gargoyles however that was cause they were not in their bodies when it happened. They were partially lied to about remote hacking the Steel Clan using the internet. They were stealing the Steel Clan through it was not through hacking as it was through using possessing the robots themselves and leaving with them. The only thing the internet was used for was a medium to transfer their spirits over to the robots.
This was not something they would be able to be aware of long enough to notice though as the moment they got back. Coyote used something else that had transfer with their spirits that being a computer virus. One took advantage of them being massive Pack fans to make them his loyal minions. The most dangerous part of the virus he used on them was that they are fully aware that he used it on them but do not care. They were fully converted to the point where they do anything Coyote says with a smile on their face and not a second thought. Their first order was to get rid of their original bodies which they did instantly. As for why Coyote never thought about Ray and why she was not with them was curious but a story for another time.
While Beth and Xander just stayed where they were since they were in a pretty isolated place that did not have anyone visiting it after all.
There were also various other cases but too numerous to go over even if it was just one percent of the Manhattan population that was going through it.
Puck was not aware of this but using the specific type of spell that he was using on Manhattan he was tapping into something he probably should have left alone. It was only made worse through someone removing the reality striking back prevention aspect of his spell, If one thought about the spell he used was far too powerful and thought to be just magic alone. It altered not just someone's form which can be done at will with no need for any cautious at even a city wide level. It was merely a surface change that quickly changes and nothing more.
What Puck did was not something simple but far more complex as he changed their entire existence both body and mind. They were not just humans with their forms change to look like something else. Take Elisa's brother Derek and the others mutates for explaining as they were changed from a human to their new species. However, while their forms were changed that was pretty much all that had changed about them. They still fully recalled their human lives, appearances, and existences. Sure they could not be changed back through science but through magic, it might have been possible though. The correct spell would be required but doable with magic. What Puck did though took things to the next level as those he turned into gargoyles could not recall any of those things and even Elisa only claimed that she could when she had no memories of ever being human. She could believe this to be the case because she knew magic and proof that it was her memories and thoughts that were changed not the other way around.
All these things were what Puck was getting chewed out for by the one that took him away after he left alone with Elisa, Demona, Goliath, and the rest of his clan after they all turned to stone for the day. Even if he was chained up if he could figure out a way around Demona's first request without granting it as she wanted. Do a second time without getting the whole city involved should have been possible for him. Also got chewed out for not noticing how someone had seemingly known what he was going to do in advance and had things set up so they would play out as they had.
