Together

David talks to Hanna about her wanting Regina to rip out her heart.

Hanna sat by the fire while they waited for Regina. She went into the castle with Robin Hood to remove the protection spell that the Wicked Witch placed around their castle. She looked up when she heard someone sit down beside her.

"Are you warm enough?" David asked.

Hanna gave him a small smile. "I'm good."

"I need to talk to you about something."

Hanna sighed. "I know."

"You do?"

Hanna nodded. "I heard Mom tell you what I did yesterday. I was listening from inside the tent."

"Can you talk to me about it? Why did you ask Regina to rip out your heart, Hanna? I want to understand."

"Regina was going to do it to herself so she wouldn't miss Henry as much. She was going to take away her pain. I thought it would work for me too. I just…I thought it would help me not feel how I'm feeling right now. I just miss them so much it hurts. It really hurts, Dad." Hanna looked up at him and could feel the tears starting to form in her eyes.

"I know. I know." David pulled Hanna into his arms. "I'm hurting too. I miss them so much. Just know you're not alone in this, okay?"

Hanna looked up at her dad. "I'm sorry for asking Regina to do that. I really am. I saw how upset it made you and Mom. I…I didn't mean to."

"I know you didn't. You were just hurting."

"I just…I don't know how to keep going without them."

"Neither do I," David sighed. "But we have to, Hanna. For them. That's what they would want for us. We can't just rip out our hearts out and hide from our pain. We have to feel it. It's the only way we'll get through it."

"But how?"

"Together." David wiped the tears that fell down Hanna's cheeks. "We will do all of this together. You have your mom and me, and we have you."

Hanna nodded. She still didn't know how she was going to do this…how she was going to be here without them, but she knew she could do anything as long as she had her parents with her.
