Chapter 19: Confronting Professor Moody
*Harry's POV*
As I arrived back at Hogwarts, with Cedric's cold body, the events at the cemetery were overwhelming. Cedric died right in front of me. My daughter got left behind. I couldn't save her in time. Now Voldemort has her. With the memory replaying in my head, I began to sob. I am so worried about Lana. All I can think about is where she is and what Voldemort could do to my baby.
The marching band played lively music during my arrival. Everyone cheered but I didn't care. I continued sobbing over the loud music. All I wanted was my daughter back. When Dumbledore noticed that Cedric was not moving and Lana's absence, he grew concerned.
"Harry!" Professor Dumbledore shouted.
It was thanks to Fleur's big scream that everyone now noticed the big problem we had.
"Harry!" Professor Dumbledore yelled as he ran over to me. Some of Lana's family members frantically ran over to me when they noticed Lana's absence. Professor Dumbledore tried to comfort me by putting his arms around me but I pushed him away.
"No! No! No, stop!" I yelled.
"For God's sake Dumbledore, what happened?!" Fudge shouted.
"He's back. He's back. Voldemort's back. Cedric, he asked me to bring his body back. I couldn't leave him, not there." I sobbed. Professor Dumbledore put his hands on my cheeks to comfort me.
"It's all right, Harry. It's all right. He's home. You both are." Professor Dumbledore said.
"Harry. Where is Lana?" Uru asked me. I cried some more at the mention of Lana's name.
"Lana... I couldn't save her in time. Voldemort took Lana... I... I don't know where she is." I sobbed.
"Oh no." Uru gasped.
"Lana...?" Miles stuttered. He looked shocked. Miles almost passed out. Gwen had to catch him to stop him from falling over. Miguel looked furious.
"Keep everybody in their seats!" Fudge shouted.
"Don't worry Harry. I promise you that we will find Lana." Professor Dumbledore said. Everyone fell silent.
"The body must be moved, Dumbledore. There are too many people." Fudge says.
"Let me through! Let me through!" A voice shouted. Oh no, that must be Mr. Diggory's voice. Mr. Diggory pushed through the crowd of people until he reached his son. "That's my son! That's my boy! It's my boy!" Mr. Diggory shouted. I felt so bad for Mr. Diggory as he continued to mourn the loss of his son.
I continued to cry next to Cedric's body. Cedric's loss and Lana's absence put a heavy weight on my shoulders. I have failed to protect my daughter. Now she is paying the price. I could hear the faint sobs from the crowd, as well as Lana's family. I was startled when Professor Moody grabbed my arm.
"Come on, son. Easy, easy!" Professor Moody said.
"No!" I shouted as he began to drag me away from the crowd.
"This is not where you want to be right now. Come on." Professor Moody said. I looked at Ron and Hermione. Their faces were saddened with grief as they found out about our daughter's absence. I tried fighting against Professor Moody's grip but he manages to drag me away. It was truly a sad night for all of us, one that I won't forget.
"It's all right. It's all right. I got you." Professor Moody said. I kept sobbing as we continued walking away. "Come on. Easy, now." Professor Moody said.
It wasn't an easy journey since it was a long walk from the stadium to his office but we eventually made it. I clutched my arm tightly where Wormtail cut it. It still hurts like hell. Professor Moody shut the door to his office when we stepped inside. Professor Moody pushes me forward. I sobbed quietly as Professor Moody sat me down on a stool.
"Are you all right, Potter? Does it hurt? That?" Professor Moody asks me, pointing at the cut on my arm.
"Not so much now," I said.
"Perhaps I'd better take a look at it." Professor Moody said. Professor Moody moved the fabric of my sleeves a bit so he could look at my arm.
"The cup was a Portkey. Someone had bewitched it." I said.
"What was it like? What was he like?" Professor Moody asked.
"Who?" I asked.
"The Dark Lord." Professor Moody said. I yelped with pain as he tightened his grip on my arm. "What was it like to stand in his presence?"
"I don't know. It was like I'd fallen into one of my dreams. Into one of my nightmares." I explained. Professor Moody poured more of his drink into his mouth. He quickly walked over to the other room. He opened up a chest and franticly searched for something. Professor Moody let out a loud grunt.
"Were there others? In the graveyard, were there others?" Professor Moody asked.
I stammered, confused as to what he was asking me. "I... I don't... think I said anything about a graveyard, Professor." I said.
"Marvelous creatures, dragons aren't they?" Professor Moody said, imitating Hagrid. "Do you think that miserable oaf would've led you into the woods if I hadn't suggested it? Think Cedric Diggory would've told you to open the egg underwater if I hadn't told him first myself? Did you think Nevill Longbottom, the witless wonder, could've provided you with gillyweed if I hadn't given him the book that led him straight to it? Huh!?"
Now it all made sense. Professor Moody put mine and Lana's name in the Goblet of Fire. "It was you from the beginning. You put mine and Lana's name in the Goblet of Fire. You bewitched Krum, but you-" I stammered.
"But- but-" Professor Moody said, mocking me. "You won because I made it so, Potter. You ended up in the graveyard tonight because it was meant to be so. You couldn't save Lana tonight because I made sure of it. And now the deed is done." I winced in pain when he grabbed my arm tightly, putting pressure on the cut. Professor Moody gave out a loud grunt as his face twitched again.
"The blood that runs through these veins runs within the dark lord. Imagine how he will reward me when he learns that I have once and for all... Silenced the great Harry Potter." Professor Moody said.
"Expellearmus!" With a spark from a wand, Professor Moody was pushed back. He landed hard against the wall. Professor Dumbledore stormed into the room with his wand pointed at him, followed by Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape.
"Severus." Professor Dumbledore said. Professor Snape forced some liquid down Professor Moody's throat.
"That's it, take it." Professor Snape said.
"Do you know who I am?" Professor Dumbledore demanded.
"Albus Dumbledore." Professor Moody said.
"Are you Alastor Moody? Are you?" Professor Dumbledore demanded.
"No." Professor Moody said.
"Is he in this room? Is he in this room?!" Professor Dumbledore demanded. "Harry away from there!"
I did as he said, stepping away from the chest. Professor McGonagall put a hand on my shoulder as I walked away. I watched as Professor Dumbledore opened up the chest. When the chest opened, it revealed the real Alastor Moody.
"You all right, Alastor?" Professor Dumbledore asked.
"I'm sorry, Albus." The real Professor Moody said. I was confused.
"That's Moody, but then who's-?" I asked. Professor Snape inspected the bottle that the fake Professor Moody had been drinking from.
"Polyjuice Potion." Professor Snape said.
"Now we know who's been stealing from your stores, Severus." Professor Dumbledore said. Professor Dumbledore then turned to Alastor. "We will get you up in a minute."
We turned our attention back to the fake Professor Moody. He twitched and turned. His body begins to de-morph, pulling and throwing the eye onto the ground. When the change has fully taken effect, I bend over to take a look at him. I recognized him to be Barty Crouch Junior. I was startled when he lunged toward me.
"Harry!" He yelled. Professor Dumbledore pushed me back as Professor Snape and Professor McGonagall pushed him toward the wall, pointing their wands at them.
"Barty Crouch Junior." Professor Dumbledore said.
"I'll show you mine if you show me yours," Barty said. Barty lifted up his arm, revealing the mark of the Dark Lord.
"You're arm, Harry." Professor Dumbledore said. Professor Dumbledore pulled me forward, lifting my sleeve up revealing my mark.
"You know what this means, don't you? He's back. Lord Voldemort returns." Barty said.
"I'm sorry sir. I couldn't help it." I said.
"Send an owl to Azkaban. I think they'll find they're missing a prisoner." Professor Dumbledore said.
"I'll be welcomed back like a hero. Perhaps. Personally, I've never had much time for heroes." Barty said. When I finally reached the Gryffindor Common Room I collapsed onto the couch. I hugged Ron and Hermione tightly as we all cried into each other's arms.
"We have to find her, Hermione. We have to." I sobbed.
"I know, Harry. We will. Don't worry." Hermione said.
The next day, Professor Dumbledore called an assembly. The whole school gathered around. The room fell silent as Professor Dumbledore spoke of Cedric's death and Lana's absence.
"Today we acknowledge... two really terrible losses. Cedric Diggory was, as you all know... exceptionally hard-working... infinitely fair-minded... and most importantly... a fierce, fierce friend. And Lana... she is a bright, cheerful child who didn't deserve any of this. Sweet and innocent. Now, I think therefore you have the right to know exactly how he died and how Lana did not return home." Professor Dumbledore took a deep breath as he stepped forward.
"You see... Cedric Diggory was murdered... by Lord Voldemort! And Lana... Lord Voldemort kidnapped her. He's holding her hostage as I speak. The Ministry of Magic does not wish me to tell you this. But not to do so I think would be an insult to their memories." Professor Dumbledore said. Tears flowed freely down my face. I looked at Miles and Gwen who held each other tightly as they cried.
Margo had tears streaming down her face as she held a picture of Lana in her hands. Nala's jaw clenched with every word Professor Dumbledore spoke. Simba nuzzled her shoulder to comfort her.
"I promise you Nala, we will bring her back home," Simba said. Simba kissed Nala to assure her. I watched as Miguel stormed out of the room, with his hands clenched at his sides.
Professor Dumbledore continued his speech. "Now, the pain... we all feel as these dreadful losses reminds me- Reminds us- while we may come from different places and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one. In light of recent events, the bonds of friendships we've made this year will be more important than ever. Remember that, and Cedric Diggory will not have died in vain. You remember that. And we'll celebrate a boy who was... kind and honest and... brave and true. Right to the very end. And I assure you, that we are doing everything in our power to bring Lana back home."
As I left the Great Hall, my mind kept thinking about my daughter. I have to find her and rescue her from Voldemort's clutches. I will not stop looking for her until she is back home in my arms.
