[Day 124]
Bella watched the sun peak over the horizon and she could see that the herd was still pretty large, but it had dwindled as the night went on. Jim was conscious this morning and she helped feed him some of the jerky she had in her pocket and gave him water.
"Bella, you can't stay up here forever. That herd may not move out any time soon." Jim said weakly.
Bella knew that he was right, and there was still two people in the basement. "Did you and Hanson see an opening to the basement?"
"Yeah, west side. The herd overran us though, which is why we had to backtrack." Jim explained.
Bella looked towards the west part of the warehouse and nodded. "Okay…." She murmured, studying a way into the basement. "Okay. Listen, I'm going to use the flares to divert the walker's attention and I'm going to set car alarms off on the east side. Once the herd is drawn to the alarms, then I am going to get the two people in the basement out. I have a flash bang I can use to help get you down from here, hopefully with their help if they're able, and we can get out of here."
"Bella…don't waste energy on me."
"Shut the fuck up. We're getting out of here together." Bella said, her tone abrasive. Sweat dripped into her eyes and she blinked it away. "Alright. Don't move, drink water and just…hang tight." She said and stood. She grabbed the flares and she broke it, throwing it so the walkers could see and feel the heat. It worked, the walkers moaning and groaning, shifting towards the thrown flare. When Bella saw her opportunity, she jumped down off the building, using the edge to catch herself so she wouldn't have too far of a drop. Once her feet hit the pavement, she sprinted towards the East side of the warehouse, not using energy to take out the few walkers that were in her way. She made it to a truck that was parked and she slid up into the truck and ducked under the dash and ripped the panel down and pulled at a few wires before the alarm started blaring loudly. Walkers stopped and looked in the direction of the noise and started shuffling towards the truck. Bella cut and run, sprinting back around the warehouse, using her machete to take out the walkers that were closest to her, before she rounded the corner and paused, waiting for the stragglers of the herd to shift towards the truck alarm. When it was clear, she found the entrance into the basement. It was locked with a chain and she cursed under her breath, but she found an axe laying against the building and she grabbed it. She blew out a breath and she hit the chain half a dozen times before it broke loose. Her arms shook when she opened the doors and she looked down in the basement and it's darkness.
"Hello?" A girl's voice sounded, frightened.
"I'm a friend. I'm gonna get you out of there." Bella called down and looked around her to make sure walkers weren't going to surprise her from behind. There weren't any stairs that led down into the basement, so she gripped the edge of the opening and she hoisted herself down carefully. She dropped the rest of the way down and looked around the dark room. There was some light coming from a few small vents that led outside. She saw the girl tied up and in the corner along with another man. He was starting to come to. "Hey, don't panic. I'm going to get you guys out of here." She said and she pulled her knife from her waist and she cut at the ropes.
"I'm Alice. That's Spencer." Alice sniffed a little, her voice shaking.
"I'm Bella." Bella introduced softly. When she got the ropes cut she looked around the basement. She saw someone laying on the ground so she walked closer and gasped when she saw Frank, as a walker, but someone had put a knife into his skull. She felt her heart leap up into her throat. "No….no Frank…"She murmured and she pushed all that emotion away and looked for a way to get them out of the basement.
Spencer was rubbing his hands over Alice's arms to comfort her. He looked towards Bella. His hair was dark, a little shaggy in front, and he had blue eyes and he was a little bit taller than Bella and definitely taller than Alice. Alice was smaller than Bella by maybe a couple inches, her dark hair was cut right below her ears and her eyes were dark, like chocolate circles. She was still shaking from everything going on around her. "Can't we go upstairs."
"Too many biters." Bella said and searched until she found a ladder. She grabbed it off the wall and she brought it back to the opening and set it up. It was tall enough for her to climb up and grab the edge of the opening. "Alright. I'm going to go up first, make sure it's still clear. Then Alice, I want you to climb up the ladder, I'll lift you out. Spencer-"
"I'm last. Got it." Spencer said with a quick nod.
Bella climbed up the ladder and reached up and grabbed the edge of the opening and she pulled herself up, her biceps trembling when she did. She saw a few walkers lingering closeby and so she took her machete and swung it at them, slicing through their skulls. She went back to the opening. "Okay. Alice, you can do this." She called down into the hole.
Alice climbed up the ladder, her legs a little shaky. She reached up and Bella grabbed her hand and pulled her with all her strength, so she could grab the edge of the opening. Then Bella positioned herself better and pulled her the rest of the way through the opening. Spencer was right behind her, pulling himself out of the opening without a big struggle.
Bella handed Spencer the axe. "Alright. My friend is on top of that watershed. He's hurt, so I need to get him down. I have a flash bang to use to help draw more attention."
"Why not use the cargo truck over there?" Spencer asked, pointing over to the lot that had cargo trucks parked.
Bella looked back towards the water shed and the gate that crashed in from Daryl leaving the night before. She nodded. "Alright. Okay, yeah. Do you know how to hotwire it?"
"I do," Alice said, her voice was small, a little airy, and Bella noticed the tremor in it, but she nodded. "Alright. Spencer, you get her to that truck. I'm going to make sure you have a clear path." She said and the three of them separated and Spencer took off, pulling Alice along with him towards the trucks.
Bella ran towards the water shed, and heard the alarm go off on the truck that she set off. "Shit." She muttered. The walkers would get bored with that soon enough. She ran towards the hoard, pulling the pin on the flash bang and lobbed it close to the truck and the herd shifted back towards the sound and flash.
Bella saw Spencer and Alice driving with the truck towards the water shed and she sprinted back towards the water shed and jumped, kicking her foot against the post next to the shed and the wall of the shed, so she could grab ahold of the roofline and pulled herself up to Jim. "We're getting out of here Jim. Come on," She said and hefted him. He groaned a little bit but he got to his foot, and leaned against Bella. Spencer pulled the truck up close to the roof, and Bella pulled Jim with her to the roof of the truck and laid him down flat. She banged the roof with her fist and Spencer pulled away, driving away from the warehouse.
Negan made it to the rendezvous point last night, and he wanted to go back to the warehouse immediately, but Jasper and Glenn talked him down. Daryl was agreeing with Negan, but Jasper was trying to be logical. Daylight was now making it's appearance, so he was getting ready to storm the warehouse to get Bella back.
The radio crackled and Negan's heart stopped a little when her voice filtered through.
"I'm heading back to rendezvous." Bella's tired voice sounded.
Relief flooded Negan, as well as the others. "Damn it sweetheart, are you trying to test the strength of my heart?"
"Not particularly." Bella laughed a little.
Negan closed his eyes and relaxed a moment. "Hanson and Jim?"
"Jim's with me. Hanson didn't make it. I'll see you in ten." Bella said and then it was silence.
Negan looked at Daryl. "She made it."
Jasper let out a breath he wasn't aware he was holding. "I told you…she would be okay." He said and felt himself choke up a little and had to leave the room before anyone saw how emotional he was getting.
Daryl nodded, pulling his smokes out of his pocket and lit one. "She shaved a decade off my life." He muttered.
Negan blew out a breath. "That's an understatement." He said and motioned for Daryl to give him a cigarette and Daryl handed him one.
Spencer parked at the rendezvous point and Bella slid down the windshield, pulling Jim with her carefully. Spencer got out and helped Bella get Jim down off the truck. Negan, Daryl, Jasper, and Glenn rushed outside, taking over for Bella and Spencer. Alice was trembling when she got out, and Jasper went to Alice and hugged her tight. "I'm okay." Alice said into Jasper's chest.
Jasper nodded. "Yeah. But that was scary for you and I'm sorry you got dragged into Rick's war." He said and leaned back to look down at her. "But thank you…for doing your part."
Alice teared up but she nodded. "Thank you Jazz." She said and sniffed.
Glenn moved towards Alice and took over, helping her inside, casting a grateful look to Bella silently.
Bella finally felt the fatigue hit her. She swayed and Negan caught her, swinging her up in his strong arms. She didn't even have the energy to argue, she just tucked her head against his chest and closed her eyes, letting him carry her inside the house.
Once inside, Negan set Bella on the couch and she sat up a little.
"What happened?"
"Too much." Bella said and Daryl handed her water. Bella took the water and took a heavy drink. "Frank is dead."
Negan frowned. "How?"
"He was in the basement with Alice and Spencer."
Jasper crossed his arms. "I didn't know who he was. I just saw him tied up like that, turned as a walker and so…I put him out. Didn't want him to suffer anymore."
Negan sighed. "Damn." It hit him a little harder than he intended but he still kept a hold on his emotions.
Bella ran a hand over her face. "Jim-"
"He has another bite." Glenn interrupted as he walked in the room."
"Goddamnit it." Bella cursed and threw the bottle of water across the room. She stood, her body shaking, begging her to just rest, but she couldn't sit still right now.
Negan hadn't seen her this angry before and was a little shocked to see her explode like that. "Sweetheart-"
Bella screamed and threw her fist into a wall and it went through the drywall, shattering a large hole in the wall. "I'm going to kill him." She said, her blue eyes swinging towards Negan who went to help her, but Jasper and Daryl were also starting forward to stop her. "Stop." She commanded and the three men stopped, staring at her, a mixture of shock and worry on their faces.
Blood dropped from her knuckles, but she ignored it. "I want to take care of Jim. It's my fault." She said dryly and she walked away, going into the other room where Jim was laying on the bed. "Jim."
Jim looked at Bella and smiled a little weakly. "Hey."
"I'm sorry. I thought…I thought I could save you."
Jim nodded. "It's alright. You tried your best."
"I sent you to look for an entrance into the warehouse."
"Bella, this would have happened no matter who told me to go look for an entrance." Jim coughed a little. "It's just my time to go."
Bella clenched her fist, more blood dripping on the floor. "It's still my fault."
"No…it's not. Don't hold it in. That anger…it turns you ugly fast." Jim said. "Keep being strong. Win this war." He said and coughed again. "I'm ready." He told her, nodding slightly.
Bella swallowed and then she walked towards him. She sat on the side of the bed and she took her knife out and she put it to his temple. He nodded, closing his eyes and she inserted the blade, ending his life before he could come back as a monster. She waited a moment, trying to get a handle on her emotions, before she pulled her blade back out and wiped it on the sheets on the bed. She sat there a moment, thinking about all the things she could have done different. Anger was unruly inside her, like a storm raging inside. She wanted Rick dead and whoever else sided with him.
Negan waited, trying to find the words to say to Bella that would alleviate whatever pain she was feeling right now. When she came out of the room, she seemed like she was hiding her emotion well. Her hand was bleeding from the impact her knuckles had on the wall. "Sweetheart." He started.
Bella's blue eyes looked at Negan, ignoring everyone else in the room. "We need to find a spot to bury Jim." She said. "Get him back to the compound, but we need to bury him."
Negan nodded. "Of course. We'll give him a proper burial." He started to take a step towards her but she put a hand up and it made him stop. He frowned. "I just want to look at your hand. Will you let me?"
"No." Bella said. "Daryl. Let's go." She said and looked at Daryl and he nodded, glancing to Negan who gave him a little nod. Bella walked to the door and walked outside, going to one of the Savior vehicles and she climbed inside and waited for Daryl.
Daryl hesitated at the door. "I'll fix her hand." He said to the room. "She just needs time to process what happened today." He reassured the others, mostly Negan who was looking a little in pain. But he was also reassuring himself. He walked out the door and got in the truck with Bella and they drove away towards the compound.
[Day 126]
They buried Jim and had a memorial for Frank and Hanson. Mariana was a widow now and bringing new life into the world. Mariana wanted to break down, but she kept trying to be strong for the baby she was carrying that would be here any day now.
Bella stayed to herself, avoiding Negan, Jasper, Glenn, and the others. The only one that she let in was Daryl. Or at least she let him stay near her. She spent a lot of time sharpening knives, and working on creating new arrows. She hadn't had sex in what felt like a long time. She was in her bedroom, Loki in his spot in the corner laying down, and she was working on a new arrow that could shoot farther when Daryl knocked on the door and let himself in when she didn't answer. He shut the door behind him and leaned against it.
"Bella." Daryl said her name gently.
"What's up?" Bella asked, not looking up from the arrow she was working on.
"Can you take a moment to look at me?"
Bella sighed and set the arrow to the side and looked up at him. "What?"
"I'm worried about you."
"I'm fine."
"It's obvious that you're not." Daryl said and walked towards the bed. "Can I check your hand?"
Bella sighed again and put her hand in Daryl's hand. Daryl unwrapped it and looked at her crushed knuckles. "It doesn't hurt." She lied.
"Good." Daryl said and he started rewrapping her hand, his hands were calloused but they were gentle on hers right now. They were silent for a while, until he finished rewrapping her hand. He looked up at her and her eyes stared back him. He didn't say anything, just reached a hand up to brush her hair back out of her face.
"Take your shirt off." Bella suddenly said.
"Bella…"
Bella pulled at her shirt, getting it off. She reached behind her with her good hand and unsnapped her bra and let her breast fall free. "You ask me all the time what do I need. I need this Daryl." She said, her eyes serious.
Daryl swallowed and nodded, unbuttoning his shirt and carefully undressed while she stripped at the same time. She pulled him close to her, straddling him, her mouth covering his instantly. He kissed her back, giving in to what she wanted, his heart hurting a little in his chest as he thought about the pain she was in right now. It was making it difficult for him to be turned on, but the way her hands moved over his body brought some sort of response.
Bella kissed at his neck, her hot breath sending shivers through him. His hands went to her hips before sliding up to her breasts and she moaned when he groped her gently. Her hips shifted in his lap and she lifted up to put his cock at her entrance before she slid down on him. He moaned his mouth going to her throat, kissing her a little before suckling gently. She closed her eyes and just rode the pleasure her body was getting from the experience. She rocked her hips over Daryl's slow at first, like a tantalizing dance before she needed more. She picked up speed, moving harder, chasing a release that she needed and wanted. It felt like it was out of grasp for her and it was frustrating. She whined as she continued to fuck Daryl, riding him harder and harder.
The intensity was a different pace for Daryl and he was enjoying it, his body feeling the raw energy that Bella had. His cock swelled and he wasn't far from his end, but Bella hadn't cum yet so, he concentrated on holding off.
Bella felt the frustration creep in more and she slowed her hips, looking at Daryl. "Can you…"
Daryl nodded and she slid off of him and she got on her knees and he positioned himself behind her. He slid into her with ease and she moaned as he filled her up. He thrust his hips against her, slow at first, but he could tell she needed him to go fast. He wasn't experienced enough to give her everything she wanted, but he tried to focus on just her. He pushed a little harder as a test of himself, and she shuddered. His hands gripped her hips tight as he pounded into her, hoping she would find her release and when she tightened around him and gushed out, she moaned, relief filling her body and soon, his as well. He sank his hips deep against her as he came, closing his eyes, and just enjoying the feeling.
When it was over, they both pulled their clothes on in silence. Daryl felt his heart still stuttering in his chest still, but his breathing returned to normal.
"Bella…"Daryl started to say.
"I'm fine." Bella said, not looking up at him. She went back to her arrows.
Daryl sighed. "Okay." He said with a nod. "Well, is there anything you want me to get you?"
"No." Bella said and looked up at him. "I don't need anything now."
Daryl nodded silently, feeling a little pain in his heart. "Alright." He said, not sure what else to say at this point, so he left her to be by herself. He ran his hands over his face, rubbing away the anxiety he was feeling, before he walked back out towards the scrapyard.
