It was a cool, fall evening on the island of Patch, located just off of the Kingdom of Vale. The world of Remnant is in an era of peace. There's still the ongoing societal issues amongst the humans and faunus of the world, but for now the lives of two young, future huntresses are well.

*SMACK, POW, —- CRASH*

A 10 year old Ruby Rose goes flying into a tree with a gasp.

"Yang! What did I tell you about sparring with Ruby!" said Ty Xiao Long as he rushed to Ruby who's still in the tree.

"You can't treat her like a punching bag just because you didn't get enough training in today."

The 12 year old snapped back immediately "ACTUALLY DAD, Ruby asked ME to spar, I didn't make her do anything."

"Yang, you can't keep using the same excuses every time you send Ruby flying." he said with a sigh

Ruby tried speaking up while she was being helped up "No, Dad Yang is telling the tru/"

Ty cut Ruby off since this was the third time this week Yang has been rough with Ruby, "Ruby, you don't need to cover for Yang. She's old enough to know that she shouldn't be beating up on her little sister."

This small series of events infuriated Yang. She was so mad and upset that their dad wouldn't even listen. She started breathing frantically as a sudden heat began to overtake her body. Her long, blonde locks of hair started to rise while simultaneously being engulfed in flames. Ruby and their dad immediately noticed Yang standing there with a crimson rage in her eyes. Yang was truly ready to blow at any second, until Ty shot up leaving Ruby's side with utter excitement.

"Yang! Look at you, your semblance finally kicked in! Congratulations!" Ty couldn't help but think to himself how much she looked like Raven with those crimson colored eyes. Yang, still engulfed in rage and flames, finally took a steady breath. Suddenly she forgot everything she was mad about and was ready to bask in the excitement.

"Oh my god! I can't believe it, my semblance!" she said with so much glee "Dad, Dad, did you see that? MY SEMBLANCE KICKED IN. What do you think it can do?"

As Yang was rattling off a million questions to her dad, Ruby was in awe. She was frozen, admiring her sister, even though she was a little jealous. Ruby couldn't help but wonder what her semblance would be, and when it would kick in for her. Excitedly, Ruby ran and tackled Yang to the ground. "OH MY GOD, YANG! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GOT YOUR SEMBLANCE!"

Ruby immediately tries to take credit, "You know if i hadn't asked you to spar your semblance probably wouldn't have kicked in today" she says in a teasing tone.

Yang fires back "Yeah, mmphh… I wouldn't of gotten if you weren't such a lousy fighter, so thanks Ruby"

"I AM NOT A LOUSY FIGHTER!"

"Right, that's why you lasted 20 seconds and got sent flying into a tree for Dad to come save you."

Ty has just about had it with all the arguing and bickering recently. Yang has been real snippy with him and Ruby the last few weeks. Which was also the last time she was trying to find out information about her mom's whereabouts. That was before Ty caught her trying to sneak out thinking she had a lead. This wasn't Yang's first attempt at trying to find her mom, but usually she's back to her sunny little self after a few days and being explained to again why finding her isn't a good idea right now. Ty really had no idea why she still seems so bothered in these recent days. He thought to himself maybe Yang truly thought she had a chance this time, a real chance at finding her mom.

"Alright, alright that's enough you two. Everybody up. Let's get ready for dinner and tomorrow we can structure training around figuring out more about Yang's semblance."

Yang tried pleading with Ty "But Dad! Come on, please. I just unlocked my semblance. You can't expect me to go inside right now. We have to see what I can do."

"Yang, I'm sorry but it's going to be dark soon. We're going inside for dinner now, and tomorrow we will train with your semblance for the whole day, okay?"

Yang really couldn't believe what she was hearing. Having to go inside after just discovering her semblance? This was outrageous in her mind. The sun was still getting ready to set, they had at least another 30 minutes of daylight. She really saw no reason as to why they had to go in right away. She looks up to her dad, her eyes have shifted back into the crimson color that reminds him so much of Raven. "I'm staying outside. You and Ruby can do whatever the hell you want."

Ty couldn't believe the tone Yang just took with him. Sure she's had moments just like the rest of the world, but this type of attitude was something new for her. Ty really didn't want to snap at his daughter the way he did, but he reached his tipping point. "That's it, Yang. I've had it up to here with your attitude lately. I've been lenient but that stops now. Tomorrow your training is off, you're grounded for the next two weeks, and if I so happen to catch you trying to figure out your semblance alone, you won't train at ALL for the next month. Do I make myself clear young lady?

Yang really had to bite her tongue right now, leaving her speechless but feeling an intense wave of emotions wash over her. She blinked her eyes a few times and they shifted back to the gorgeous amethyst color, but they were also filled with tears. Being someone who doesn't cry all that much, especially in front of people, Yang looked back up at her dad and answered with a weak sounding "yeah.." pushing her response through muffled sniffling noises. Not even a second later she booked it straight into their cabin, directly to her room, slamming the door.

Ty and Ruby stood outside glancing at each other, silently taking in the chain of events that just happened. Ruby couldn't help but think out loud "That… that was intense." Another thought left her lips "Dad, why couldn't you just let her have a few more minutes outs—" Ty cut Ruby off again,

"Ruby, please not now. Let's go in to wash up, and get dinner going."

After witnessing the last ten minutes of events, Ruby decided it was best for her to just listen, without any fuss.

Yang heard them come inside and start on dinner. She decided that she wasn't eating tonight. The rush of different emotions she just experienced left her feeling drained. Her body hurt. Looking in the mirror, Yang started talking to herself "I can't believe I can access my semblance. With a puffy exhale Didn't realize how draining it would be on my aura." Still upset about not knowing what exactly her semblance could do besides turn her into a fireball, she decided she'd just go to bed. Once settled, she heard a knock at the door.

"Yang?" from a soft little voice.

"Go away Ruby."

"But dad told me to get you for dinner."

Yang, quick and snippy with the reply "not eating, go Ruby"

Ruby left feeling defeated as she went back to the kitchen to tell their dad that Yang was not joining them for dinner. She knew this news was only going to make her dad more upset with how the evening played out. There were only so many nights a week that they got to eat dinner as family since Ty is always busy with teaching or meetings at Signal. Nights like these really made her miss her mom. She sighed. She can't help but think everything would be better if she were still around.

Ruby approached the table, "Sorry dad, she said she isn't eating tonight."

Ty let out a disappointed sigh. Feeling even more guilty for the way he snapped at her. "Let me guess, she was snippy about it when she told you no."

Ruby not wasting any more time to eat, responds with her mouth overflowing with food "Yeah *munch* pretty *chew* much"

Ty just shakes his head, lets out a little sigh and begins eating to at least enjoy a meal with one of his daughters tonight.

Even though Yang decided she wasn't going to eat dinner out of pettiness, she doesn't think she could if she wanted to. She laid in bed trying to get comfortable, but her body really started to hurt, especially her stomach. She thought maybe it could still be from her semblance, since everyone's semblance reacts differently to the individual. But then she also couldn't recall ever hearing or learning of something like this happening with activating one's semblance. It was moments like these she really missed her mom. Her relationship with her dad was great, but it was always so much easier talking to her mom about anything and everything. Sure, Summer Rose wasn't her biological mother, but in Yang's eyes she really was super mom, baker of cookies and slayer of giant monsters.

Yang started talking to herself out loud, "Should I go ask dad if this is normal? Maybe I should just wait it out. Or maybe I could uh…ughhhh I just don't know what to do. I…I just want my mom" Yang started crying again. It really had only been a couple of years since Summer disappeared. Yeah… Most days were easier now for all of them than they were earlier on, but the heart wrenching void that is only longing for the hurt to go away, still sneaks up every now and again.

Yang heard Ty tell Ruby good night and the door click, now hearing footsteps approaching her own bedroom door. There was a knock.

"Yang?" There was a brief pause, now talking through the door "Yang, I'm sorry about earlier, but you really need to learn how to collect yourself. Learn to keep your temper under control."

Yang still had tears rolling down her cheeks, but scoffed at her dad's attempt at an apology. There's no way she can talk to him right now. Ty waited for a response, but Yang wasn't going to budge.

Accepting defeat from his 12 year old daughter, he let out a heavy sigh, "There's a plate for you in the fridge if you get hungry. I love you."

Yang might have been on a rollercoaster of emotions and pain, but she wasn't a monster. As she heard the footsteps start away from her door, she quietly yelled back "love you too." It was quiet, but loud enough that she knew her dad heard it. As Ty was walking away he ever so slightly smiled.

It's been a few hours since Ty and Ruby went to bed. Yang still couldn't sleep, her stomach was hurting next level. She thought maybe she should get up and go try and eat something. Walking into the kitchen to get her plate from the fridge, she noticed something didn't feel right.

"What is that?" Slowing her pace to actually feel the wetness on her shorts, that she soon realized was coming from between her legs. She moved towards the stove since the light was on there. Now noticing it was blood, she let out a worried shriek much louder than she meant to.

"Oh my god. no… no… no no." Yang was pacing around the kitchen. "What, how, internal bleeding?" She started crying again "There can't be anything wrong with me. I ca…can't leave dad and Ruby." she said through the loudest sobs of all the times she cried today.

Yang's sobs woke up Ruby. With a big stretch Ruby got up, glanced at the clock seeing it's the middle of the night. Now Ruby was extremely worried as she rushed out of her room to find her big sister. Ruby slowly approached the kitchen, not sure what she was walking into.

"Yang?" Yang jumped looking at Ruby. She didn't hear Ruby get up at all. Without any context, Ruby immediately ran to hug Yang. Not expecting the embrace from her little sister, Yang squeezed her and sobbed into her shoulder for a few minutes before she could muster up the courage to say anything.

Ruby stepped back slightly, "Yang, what's wrong, what happened? Are you upset about earlier with dad?" Still convinced she's not going to make it, Yang looks at Ruby and spills through the sobs.

"I love you so much, Ruby. There's so much you're going to do. You're a great fighter and you're going to be an amazing huntress."

Ruby, now even more confused asks "Yang, what is happening? Whatever it is, we can fix it together."

"I… I think I'm… I'm dying. I don't want to leave like mom."

Not expecting anything of that magnitude, Ruby is stunned. Hearing those words come out of Yang's mouth, and the mention of their mom, Ruby knew this was something serious.

"Yang, I don't think you're dying. You can't be. You're too young. What makes you think that?"

Still crying, but a little more under control, "I'm bleeding. I think my semblance messed something up inside of me. I'm in so much pain."

"I think we should go wake up dad. If it's something this serious."

"But… I don't want to worry him and *sniffling* he's probably still mad at me."

"That doesn't matter right now, Yang. No one wants to see anything happen to you. He's probably not even mad."

Through all the commotion in the kitchen between Yang and Ruby, Ty was awake and on his way to find out what was going on. On his walk there and was trying to think of different reasons why they'd be up at this hour. He just really hoped they weren't in there arguing over something. Coming around the corner, "Hey girls, what's going on?"

Neither of them heard Ty coming so they both jumped in response with a little "eep" escaping Ruby. Yang wasted no time and ran over to hug her dad.

"Dad, I'm so sorry about earlier. I'm sorry that I'm leaving you and Ruby. I… I love you."

"Woah… What do you mean you're leaving us?" Yang didn't have it in her to look at her dad and tell him that she was dying. She couldn't be another reason added to his grief.

Still hugging his first born "Yang, what are you on about? You have to tell me so I can help you." She still didn't have it in her to tell him. At this point she couldn't find any words at all. Ruby decided she'd speak up.

"Dad, Yang thinks she's dying." She started tearing up hearing that come out of her own mouth. In typical Ruby fashion she blurted out the rest as fast as she could. "She's bleeding from the inside out, we think it was her semblance messing something up." Not being able to hold it together, she's now bawling at the thought of losing her sister.

"Dad, please help her."

After hearing all that, Ty put it together pretty quickly. Just to confirm his suspicions he took a step back from Yang. Glancing down at her legs, seeing the red stained shorts and mess on her thighs, it was confirmed. He was kicking himself for never once mentioning a period to his daughters. In all fairness it was something that didn't really cross his mind, but still just a brief mention could have prevented this whole scene. Now the realization dawned on him of what conversation he was about to have with his daughter. Wondering to himself how he was going to do this because if he was being honest with himself, he didn't know everything about the matter. Taking a deep breath he tried to prepare himself for this awkward conversation.

"It's going to be okay. You're not dying, Yang." Still riddled with fear and worry, Yang finally looked up to make eye contact with her dad. Seeing her like this broke his heart, he was kicking himself even more for how ill prepared he made his daughter.

Through the sniffling "I'm not? This is a normal thing with a semblance?"

"Well actually this is more of poor timing, not really caused by your semblance. More of a happy coincidence." Realizing Ruby was still in the room, Ty looked over to her wanting to give her a choice. "Ruby, you're welcomed to stay for this conversation, but if you want to leave that's fine too." She decided she'd stay for a few minutes to see what was going on. She needed to make sure her sister was going to be fully okay.

Taking another deep breath, "Okay so… what's happening to you is called a period. It's something only girls get and it can seem really scary because of the blood, but I promise you it's healthy."

Yang, now relieved to hear she wasn't dying, already had a million questions that she wasn't going to hold back. "Wait… how can it be healthy to bleed? And if it's healthy, why does my stomach hurt so bad, and why am I only bleeding from this area?" she said, gesturing her hands all around her shorts.

Not ready for the sudden influx of questions, Ty rubbed the back of his head trying to think of all the right things to say. "Well… uh… um…"

"Dad, please… I'm scared."

Now realizing he might also be having the sex talk with his girls made his stomach churn. Thinking of his options to approach the matter, he thought about the impossible. He had an idea of where Raven was, and he was really thinking about going to find her. Yeah… she claimed she wasn't cut out for a mothering role, but she was more cut out for this conversation than he was. She could be a mother for 10 minutes, it wouldn't kill her. Then again it would destroy Yang. Seeing her biological mother for an important conversation and then just having her leave again. It would hurt her for sure, and he couldn't do that to his baby girl just to save himself some embarrassment.

Clearing his throat, mhmmp "Okay… so you're bleeding and it is healthy. The blood is from the lining of your uterus. It's shedding blood and tissue because ummm… ummm… your egg was not fertilized. *cough* That lining being shed is also why your stomach hurts so much. They're called cramps. This process for your body can be an emotional time."

Glancing down at Yang and looking over to Ruby both of their eyes were as big as saucers.

"An egg?" Yang asked with so much curiosity. "Like a chicken egg?"

"Not quite." Now knowing he was actually about to have the sex talk in the middle of this period talk, Ty looked over to Ruby. His youngest daughter being only 10, he wasn't ready for her to hear about sex. "Ruby, why don't you go get back into bed."

"But I want to know."

"Not this part. You don't need to hear it yet."

Yang hearing this made her even more nervous for what was about to come.

Ruby said "Okay" and walked out of the kitchen, but she had no intent of going to her room. She stayed in earshot.

Clearing his throat once again. "Yang, have you ever heard of sex or know anything about it?"

Blushing hard as ever from the embarrassment "Um… not really."

"Okay well… ummm… a few things to note before hand. First, you're way too young to be having sex, ummm… but when you do it can be a beautiful experience to share with someone. It is something you can share with men and women, but most importantly you can always say no to someone when the time comes. People also have the right to say no to you. Sex isn't something you take from someone, it must be a mutual want between people."

"Dad… ummm… what is it exactly that people want during sex?"

Ty started rubbing the back of his head again. "Well, different things, but ummm… that's another conversation. For now, when people have sex, a reason is trying to have a baby. For biological purposes this is between a man and woman. To reproduce, women have eggs inside of them and men have sperm. In order for the woman's egg cell to be fertilized…"

Ty really didn't know how to say the next part without keeping Yang's innocence intact. "A man has to ….. has to put his….ummm his penis into a woman's vagina." Ty exhaled in relief after ripping that band aid off.

Yang was in shock. All of the things her dad was saying were more than scaring. All things she really didn't want to hear. Ty went to continue the conversation about sex, but Yang cut him off.

"Okay, okay, okay. Dad please I can't hear anymore about sex right now. This conversation is making me extremely uncomfortable."

"You and me both."

Swallowing, Ty starts again. "So when a woman isn't having sex the egg can't be fertilized, but your body still prepares for an egg to be fertilized every month. An unfertilized egg can't just stay inside of you, so everything your body prepared for is expelled through *clears throat* the vagina. That's why the blood is localized to that area."

Yang has never been this embarrassed in her entire life. She really didn't know how much more she could take. Then she recalled what her dad just mentioned. "Wait a second this is going to happen EVERY month now?!"

"Yeah… every month for a couple of days."

"Days?!"

"You'll bleed for a couple of days each month."

"But what, what am I supposed to do about it?"

This was the part Ty really didn't have a lot of knowledge about. He knew there were options, but didn't really know what was what. Then he thought about it, he had no idea what to do for the rest of the night for Yang, and he wasn't going to act like he did. He felt so bad about not being prepared.

"Well, Yang, I know there are different options for the blood, but I really don't know what's what."

This uncertainty made Yang feel uneasy. This whole time her dad was so knowledgeable, but now she felt like she was going to start crying again.

"What do you mean you don't know what's what?" She felt an emotional shift in herself. In mere moments she went from wanting to cry to frustration. Her eye color phased into red the same way it did earlier in the day. "I can't just walk around covered in blood!"

Ty took a mental note of her eyes being tied into her emotions and how that can relate later to her semblance. For now he just wanted to try and provide comfort.

"Yang, no need to be upset or angry. We're going to figure this out. As soon as the shops open I'm going to go get you everything that you could possibly need."

"BUT you don't even know what I need!" she said, starting tear up from the frustration.

"I'll make some calls in the morning and get everything squared away. Do you have any other questions about any of this stuff?"

Yang just wanted this whole conversation to be over at this point. "No, besides what am I supposed to do right now?"

"Well for now why don't you go get a shower, throw a towel down on your bed, and try to get a little sleep."

Ty turned to the cabinets, grabbing some ibuprofen. "Here's some ibuprofen for the cramps." She gladly accepts and then Ty pulls her in for a hug as he decides to apologize.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't better prepared for you getting your period. I should have done something so that you didn't go as far as thinking you were dying. I'm sorry that I don't know everything you need. I really didn't think that I'd be the one having this talk with you, it probably would have been so much better coming from a woman. *Ty starts to choke up a little* I just never thought we'd lose her too."

Still savoring the hug, shedding a few tears. "I miss her too."

As Yang is making her way out of the kitchen, Ty stops her one more time.

"Wow… What a big day for you. Your semblance and your period. My little girl is really growing up."

Yang chuckles a little. "Thanks dad. Love you."

Yang on her way to the bathroom, while still embarrassed, feels a million times better. Her attention is drawn down. Looking, seeing Ruby rocking back and forth.

"Ruby? What are you doing?"

She whispers "I've heard too much."

Yang lets out a small laugh and pats her head. "Well, I got you covered when you get your first period."

Yang continues walking and Ruby can only respond "uhhh… filth."
