Chapter 1

~Unknown~

Welcome to Waifu Catalog: Super Nightmare Edition. You have been chosen as a contractor. Please indicate your acceptance of the contract.

I had been staring at these words for quite a long time. I had no clue when or how I appeared here. No matter how I questioned or begged, I would receive no response. My surroundings were just an endless white void. I tried to move away to elicit some sort of reaction but I would just reappear in front of these floating words again the moment I stopped to catch my breath.

I had read a few stories about Waifu Catalog before and most were just over the top power fantasies that collapsed due to bad power scaling. Outside of the very real ethical questions surrounding mind control, it could be seen as a lease to a potentially very long new life with the ability to travel the multiverse and meet with some of my favorite characters. Indeed if that was what I was signing up for, I would probably not be so hesitant.

However from what I could vaguely remember, the so-called nightmare mode was not such an easy or pleasant experience. No doubt this super nightmare mode was probably even harder. If I was gonna be dropped into Worm or Warhammer 40k with almost no safeguards, I would honestly rather take my shot at whatever happened to a person after they passed away.

Unfortunately, who or whatever entity I was facing did not seem to be willing to take no for an answer. With little choice in the matter, I could only accept the contract being offered(forced upon) to me.

Congratulations contractor. Please read the following rules regarding the special scenario Super Nightmare Edition.

1. You only get 1/10th the amount of given points upon World Selection.

2. Instead of the normal Stamp that you can use again and again and again to capture as many waifus as possible, you get a One-time use Stamp. That you can only use once, in a given world. Use it wisely.

3. You cannot buy any other Binding Methods. So no Tempest Jewelry, Shroud, Tantric Arts, or Hypnosis App for you.

4. You cannot buy any lures either. So no Faerie Feast, Sticky Fingers, Alluring Whisper, or Love Spot for you.

5. You cannot buy any Waifus from the Catalog either. So there's no Waifu Catalog in this Waifu Catalog. Heh!

6. You cannot buy heritages. So no dragon for you. Not like anyone picks anything else anyways.

7. No template stacking. You gotta work to learn stuff for yourself #Grind.

8. Added potential only works for worlds you visited yourself. So no turning my waifu story into another boring gamer story.

9. You cannot stamp a husbando. Only waifus.

10. Waifus who confess their love to you will still be captured in the standard way. But for that, you'll have to make them genuinely fall in love with you and then confess that love to you. Good luck with that buddy.

Due to the wishes of your patron who must not be named, your first world is preselected and you must Substitute into the world in a random character. As compensation, they have provided you with the points for the Substitution and pre-purchased Universal Calibration for you.

Substitution will now begin in 3 seconds. Good luck contractor.

I could only get out a panicked "Wait a minuteeee!" before my mind went blank again. And so began my second life.

~Gilderoy Lockhart~

July 20th 1975, Lockhart Home

Becoming a story book character was a surreal experience. It was all the more strange when I became someone that was quite unpopular. Fortunately, I had come to accept the young new face that stared back at me in the mirror. At the very least, I could say that young Lockhart was indeed quite handsome, fully demonstrating the charm able to ensnare countless fans in the original timeline. Fortunately with my newfound powers I would not disappoint all my adoring fans in this timeline.

As I made sure my appearance was maintained to a satisfactory level( I swear I was not so narcissistic in my previous life. Stupid Lockhart infecting me with his narcissism) my bedroom door was forced open and my middle sister Cecilia ran into the room and assaulted me with a hug. Cecilia was a young 15 year old girl who had also inherited our family's good looks. She had beautiful long blonde hair with a perfectly proportioned face and soul sucking blue eyes. Despite her young age, her growing curves indicated that she had inherited our mother's bombshell figure. She could easily pass for an older girl, though usually the cheerful smile and childish behavior gave her away.

Cecilia kissed me on the cheek and said with a cheerful smile, "Good morning my favorite little brother. Mama told me to let you know breakfast is on the table. I am going to wake up Aurelia next! Later!"

I could only shake my head as I watched her run off. Aurelia was my oldest sister who was 17 years old. Appearance wise, she was quite similar to Cecilia with the same beautiful hair, perfect face and soul sucking blue eyes. However unlike Cecilia, Aurelia's figure was already quite prominent and her stern countenance easily allowed her to pass for an adult woman in her twenties. Unlike Cecilia who was a bit of a prankster, Aurelia was a more serious type of person and her dream was to become a world renowned doctor. She spent much of her time reading and reviewing various medical journals even on weekends. Yet I knew despite her serious exterior, she was a big softie inside and she loved both of us dearly.

Properly dressed, I made my way down to the kitchen for breakfast. It was sunday, so the whole family was able to eat breakfast together. As I walked downstairs into the kitchen, I saw my mother waving her wand to help speed up making whatever was for breakfast. My mother's name was Vivian and she was 38 years old this year. Much like both my sisters, Vivian was a complete bombshell of a woman. In my previous life's slang, she was an A grade milf. Unfortunately, my father in this life was not a deadbeat and my parents were happily married so she was forever out of my grasp.

Ahem, I was sidetracked by my own mother's good looks. How perverse. I blame teenage hormones. Anyways back to the narrative. My mother Vivian was a half-blood witch who worked in the Daily Prophet as a journalist. Despite not being as unscrupulous as the future Rita Skeeter, she was quite respected in the newspaper and was very likely to be promoted to an editor soon. Having read some of her articles, I could fully see just whom the other Gilderoy had gotten his writing talents from.

I ran over to my mother and gave her a tight hug. She quickly turned to me and swatted me on the head before saying, "Gil, what have I told you about interrupting me when I am using magic! Go sit on the table with your father and wait patiently!"

Of course I knew that despite her harsh words she was quite happy to receive a hug from me. My mother loved me to death and she was generally quite indulgent of me. I made a sad face and said, " But mom, you haven't given me a good morning kiss yet!"

She rolled her eyes at that but still bent down and kissed my forehead for a few seconds. Then she swatted me on the head again and said with fake seriousness, " There, now don't disturb me while I am cooking!"

I gave her a quick shout of 'I love you mom!' before making my way over to the table. I can safely say that I was a complete mama's boy in this life. My father was sitting on the table with a cup of coffee reading a newspaper. My father's name was Irvin Lockhart and he was 40 years old. Unlike my mother, he was a muggle. He worked as a surgeon in a local hospital in the area. As was the theme in my family, Irvin was a very handsome man with blonde hair. He also had a killer smile that could charm the panties of just about anybody(Lockhart Family Smile™). In short, he looked quite similar to my impression of the future Gilderoy. I nodded to him and said, " Good morning father."

He just nodded back and said, "Gilderoy." Due to my mother's doting attitude my father was generally 'the bad cop' when it came to me. He generally got along with my sisters better due to all three of them being non-magic users. We both waited patiently at the table and soon heard some vaguely loud voices from upstairs. Cecilia came running down the stairs with a smile indicating a successful prank and was soon followed by an unhappy looking Aurelia. Seeing my inquiring eyes Cecilia whispered, " Aurelia stayed awake late yesterday night. I didn't want our big sis to miss breakfast so I woke her up by pulling her blanket off her."

Aurelia just glared over with eyes promising retribution but Cecilia just ignored her. Aurelia was very smart but unfortunately she was too straight laced to catch the prank savvy Cecilia off guard. Breakfast at the Lockhart family was generally a happy affair unsullied by the problems in the outside world both mundane and magical.

Normally, I was a more active participant in family interactions but since the start of July, I have been trying to finish my meal quickly to be able to go check for the mail. Cleaning my plate with some haste I made my way to the front door.

I had returned in disappointment for the entire month so when I saw a letter clearly addressed to me lying in front of the door I could barely hold in a squeal of excitement. I picked it up and the front clearly read:

Mr G. Lockhart

Lockhart Residence

The front of the letter was sealed with red wax imprinted with the iconic Hogwarts coat of arms. Finally receiving my Hogwarts letter made me both a little anxious and excited at the same time. This meant I could finally get my own wand and delve into the deeper mysteries of magic. But it also meant I would leave the little safe bubble of my home and venture out into the more dangerous world.

The current year was 1975 which could be considered the middle of the so-called 'First Wizarding War' time period. Voldemort and his followers were gaining more support and growing more arrogant as time went by. For the last few years they had been content to attack mostly muggles, but in the past few months there had been rumors of 'werewolf attacks' and 'rampaging giants' attacking muggle borns and their families.

Based on the original history, It can be inferred the conflict between Voldemort, the Ministry of Magic and Dumbledore's Order of the Phoenix will start heating up soon reaching a new intensity. I was not too worried about my safety. The current Hogwarts is not quite as accident prone as it was in Harry's school years and given my bonuses from the Catalog, I am not totally helpless even without a wand. What I was really worried about was my family. My mother was just an average witch while my father and sisters are just plain non magic casters. If they are really caught up in the coming storm they are very likely to lose their lives.

Unfortunately there was not much I could do in the short term to make my family safer. They did not entertain the idea of moving out of the country the few times I brought it up. I had considered pulling a Hermione and brainwashing them into leaving but ultimately I did not trust my self taught Legilimency to be able to achieve the desired effect. I did not have a wand and unlike Hermione's parents, my mother was a witch so she was also more likely to notice and resist any long term magical effects.

Suppressing my spiraling thoughts with my Occlumency, I made my way back indoors to open the letter with my parents. This was meant to be a happy moment and I did not want to ruin it with such thinking. My mother was the first one to react, recognizing the letter for what it was. She rushed over to me excitedly and hugged me all the while excitedly yelling, " Oh Gil! I am so happy for you son! You will just love your time at Hogwarts! It is a wonderful place and you will make so many new friends!"

The rest of the family realized what the letter entailed from my mother's reactions. My father came over and rubbed my head in a rare show of physical affection before saying, " Congratulations Gilderoy. I hope you excel in your studies in Hogwarts just as you did in school here."

Both my sisters came over and hugged me while congratulating me as well. Despite their smiles, I could pick up the jealousy in my sister's hearts with my Legilimency. I did not begrudge their emotions. They had heard all these fantastical tales of Hogwarts and the magic world from my mother growing up but could never see it themselves. If the situation were reversed I would also be jealous.

Despite being a reincarnator, I cherished my family very much in this life. Out of respect for their privacy, I rarely used Legilimency on them purposefully even if just to scan their surface thoughts. I did a very good job of abiding by this rule but with the warning of Lily and Petunia in front of me I could not help but break my vow and do my best to shrink and mute that feeling of jealousy they were feeling.

I did not feel too bad for doing this. With my current Legilimency skills, if I really wanted to imprint the idea of never being jealous of me in their heads, it would take me weeks of repeated sessions to successfully imprint that idea into their minds. A single attempt was more akin to the target taking a deep breath and their subconscious telling them 'Take a deep breath and calm down'.

I was glad to see that my sisters did seem to calm down and were more genuine in their happiness for me. Hopefully nipping that problem in the bud, I tried to squirm out of my mothers smothering hug and said, " At least let me open the letter mom. It would be embarrassing if it was about something else."

She just huffed at my lack of enthusiasm as she let me go and said, " You are too much like an old man Gil. You should learn to enjoy the moment more!"

In fact I had been excitedly anticipating this moment for almost 13 years. This excitement and expectation had only increased as my time in Hogwarts grew closer. But my worries for my family's future upon seeing the letter had put a considerable damper on my emotions at seeing the letter. While the fact that the GIlderoy in the original timeline survived did give me hope, there was no real indication of what happened to his family. I liked to think that his bad personality simply pushed them away but a small part of me always feared that they were victims in the ongoing conflict.

Still, going to Hogwarts meant that I got access to my wand and it also meant that I would finally have some freedom to move around and interact with the wider world. I had made some plans that could finally be put into motion which should greatly benefit me and increase the safety factor of my family. Feeling more confident, I finally opened the letter and read it:

Really reading the iconic letter, I couldn't help but feel a burst of excitement despite all my worries. This was a real childhood dream come true. Turning to my mother, I asked in anticipation, " Can we go to Diagon Alley today?"

My mother couldn't help but smirk at my anticipation as she replied, " Hmm someone is extremely eager to get their wand I see. Well I don't see why not. At least this way I don't have to worry about you always trying to experiment with mine anymore."

I couldn't help but feel embarrassed at her words. I had indeed stolen my mother's wand on many occasions to practice magic secretly. After being able to demonstrate the wand lighting charm at age 6, my mother did allow me to experiment with her wand occasionally but such instances were rare. Despite her doting attitude, she was quite adamant that I was not to get a wand before age 13 as I could possibly hurt myself.

On a side note I had been quite shocked to find that Hogwarts started at age 13 in my world rather than the iconic 11. I was not sure if this was due to Universal Calibration or just the meddling of my so-called patron who did not wish to be named. Still, it served as a good warning that not all details in my memory were set in stone.

Realizing I was getting sidetracked again, I thanked my mother and ran to get my shoes. The trip would be just me with my mother. Given the current atmosphere in the wizarding world, my father and sisters had not gone to Diagon Alley in many years.

Seeing that I was ready, my mother grabbed my hand firmly and we apparated over to Diagon Alley. Having been here quite a few times I did not look around too much. Differing from my earliest memories of the noisy and happy market place, the current alley had a bit of a subdued atmosphere. I can only imagine the alley would become more and more deserted over the next few years.

My mother had a firm grip on my hand and led me to Gringotts to get some money from her vault. Although we were not rich, my mother's job provided more than enough to provide for my school supplies. In fact, given that I received 10k dollars per month from the company, I was far more well off than my family. In 1975, 10k dollars equaled around 5k pounds, which was roughly 1k galleons in wizarding currency. With my savings over the past 13 years, I had more wealth than most 'Noble and Most Ancient' Pureblood families. Of course this didn't include fixed assets such as their warded manors and knowledge accumulated in their libraries.

Retrieving a sufficient amount from the vault, we made our way to Ollivanders to finally get my wand. The store itself didn't look particularly luxurious. It was narrow and shabby with Peeling gold letters over the door that read 'Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C'. A single wand lay on a faded purple cushion in the dusty window.

Of course given the Olivander family's reputation and near monopoly on wands made in Great Britain, the way the store looked didn't matter too much. A bell chimed as we made my way into the store. It was filled to the brim with narrow boxes in all corners of the store in a very haphazard fashion. As my mother and I avoided knocking over something a soft voice spoke up behind us, " Good Morning."

We both turned around to see a slightly hunched middle aged man behind us. His most notable features were his almost shining silver colored eyes. He looked at my mother for a moment before saying, " It is a pleasant surprise to see you after such a long time, Vivian. Your recent article on our new Minister Harold Minchum's plans of increased Auror recruitment and its long term effects was quite interesting."

My mother just nodded politely and replied, " Thank you . I believe there will be negative consequences for this policy down the line. However I also understand that more people are needed to deal with the growing threat of Voldemort(taboo hasn't been cast yet) and his followers."

Olivander nodded and said, " Yes one can only hope the new minister is more proactive in accepting Albus' help to deal with Voldemort and his ilk. But enough about such harsh topics. I am sure you didn't come here to listen to the ramblings of an old man. Come introduce me to this young one."

Despite feeling a bit weird about being called a 'young one', I stepped forward and introduced myself, "My name is Gilderoy Lockhart. Nice to meet you sir."

He just nodded along and said, " I can recall the day your mother stepped into my shop for her wand. A rather rare Black Walnut wand; 10 inches with a unicorn hair core. Very loyal to its user and particularly good at charmwork."

He handed me a wand before snatching it back almost immediately and looking for another one. At the same time he continued speaking, " You see , the wand chooses the wizard and not the other way around. Every wand here is unique and it is my job to make sure that they one day meet their destined wielder."

He handed me a few more wands and asked me to wave them which led to different results varying from a few sparks to a few rather loud bangs. As I kept trying out different wands, Mr. Olivadner's eyes seemed to glow more and more excitedly. He said with a smile, " A rather tricky customer, hmm well how about this one."

He handed me another wand and I immediately felt a difference compared with before. A feeling of connection. Olivander's smile became even bigger as he continued speaking, " How very interesting."

Even though it felt like the old man was baiting me, I could help but ask, " I am sorry but what is interesting sir?"

The man replied, " This wand is made of Silver-Lime, 12 inches and the core is the hair of a Wampus Cat. Silver-Lime is a very gorgeous wood which has become quite rare today due to unscrupulous wandmakers over exploiting available resources in the 19th century. The Wampus Cat is a relatively rare XXXXX rated magical creature from North America. It is even the symbol of one of the houses in Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. What is interesting is that both Silver-Lime and the Wampus Cat are quite commonly associated with the Mind Arts in wandlore. The master of a wand made with both is very likely to be quite talented in the Mind Arts. It seems we can expect great things in your future, ."

Given my skills with Legilimency and Occlumency, I didn't find it strange that such a wand chose me. Still it felt a little disconcerting that could deduce so much about me simply through my wand. I could only smile at the man and reply awkwardly, " Thank you for the praise sir. I will try to strive to live up to it."

My mother was happy to see me getting praised and said, " Hmmm my Gilderoy is so talented, it is not surprising that he matched up with such a distinguished wand."

Mr. Olivander nodded and responded, " It is indeed a very distinguished wand. It will cost 7 Galleons. For another 10 Galleons, you can also get a wand holster and wand servicing kit. It would be such a shame if such a wand was misplaced or not well maintained after all."

I had to admit that was also a masterful salesperson along with being a leading wandmaker. After all, we left the store having paid the man 17 Galleons. We started making our way through the rest of the list of items needed. First, we got a suitable trunk to hold all my things. Then we went to the potions store and got a suitable set of cauldrons vials and scales. Unfortunately, my mother did not let me get actual ingredients for practice. After a quick stop at an astronomy store for a telescope we made our way to Flourish and Blotts and got all the required textbooks for my first year.

I did not go on an insane spending spree like most other reincarnatiors in my memory as I was able to mail order books from the store since I was 6 years old. Having finally gotten my own wand, I anticipated that much of my time in the near future would be spent converting my already accumulated knowledge into practice. I didn't plan on getting a pet for now so we made our way to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions to get my school robes and end this shopping trip.

As we entered the quaint store, we were greeted by a good looking witch of an indiscriminate age whom I assumed was Madam Malkin(Universal Calibration made this a real hard guessing game). She smiled at us politely and asked while looking at me, " Going to Hogwarts dear?"

I responded with a nod, " Yes ma'am."

She nodded, having seemingly expected my response and said, " Fantastic. I already have the templates prepared. Please wait here patiently until I can get your exact measurements to prepare the robes."

My mother and I followed her instructions and went to a waiting area to wait until it was my turn. Soon my mother left to browse the different styles of dress robes available while we waited. As I looked around the store with nothing better to do, my eyes were soon drawn to a young girl also waiting for her robes not far from me. Even with Universal Calibration giving the whole world a collective facelift, she easily stood out of the crowd.

She had medium length black hair that fell to her shoulders and her face had very pleasant symmetrical features with slightly prominent cheeks. Her green colored eyes had quite a sharp look in them as if disdaining all those around her. All in all, it was a standard so-called 'aristocratic face'. She had a very prominent figure as well, with long legs, a thin waist and a particularly well developed breasts, almost reaching the level of his elder sister Aurelia. This was quite impressive as I estimated she shouldn't be older than 16 which meant she was younger than my eldest sister.

Out of habit, I extended a mental probe towards the girl wanting to learn more about her. And for the first time in my life, I met someone who had practiced Occlumency. Normally, given how subtle my probe was, I could quietly withdraw without her being the wiser or try to explore her defenses and try to sneak past them.

However, to my embarrassment, I was so shocked at meeting another Mind Arts practitioner for the first time in my life that in my daze I basically did the equivalent of breaking into her mind and knocking into her defenses headfirst. The girl seemed to be as shocked as I was at my stupidity and soon zeroed in on me. We both just stared at each other for a few moments before I felt a Legilimency probe in my mind for the first time in my life.

This threat finally broke me out of my funk and I easily prevented her from breaking into my mind. Despite my earlier stupidity, I could tell from her probe that my skills with the mind arts were significantly better than hers. The girl was quite stubborn and kept trying different methods for the next 30 seconds.

She seemed surprised by her failure as her frown progressively became worse. Eventually I heard her speak to me mentally, 'It is very rude to try and peek, little boy. If you want to talk to me, you should have the guts to do it in person.'

Her voice was extremely pleasant to listen to and her English had the slightest hints of an accent I couldn't quite place. Seeing as we had been staring at each other for well over a minute now, which probably looked strange to the others around us, I walked over to her and said easily with my trusty Lockhart Family Smile™, "It is nice to meet you miss, my name is Gilderoy Lockhart."

She seemed to examine me for a few moments before responding with a charming smile of her own, "My name is Elena Zabini. And you were quite rude to me Gilderoy. How do you plan to make it up to me?"

Even as we were talking I quickly zero'd in on her last name. After a quick review of my memories from my last life with Occlumency, I fell on a possible identity of the woman before me. Blaise Zabini was a minor character in Slytherin in the future timeline. He is best known for his infamous mother who managed to accumulate wealth by allegedly killing seven of her husbands. She was also a relatively popular character in some fanfictions. Basically a relatively dangerous person.

Given that she was mentioned in the books, she should be considered a waifu and perhaps it was my stupid teenager hormones acting up again but I couldn't help but be tempted. My time period for rebirth was a little awkward, as most well known waifu candidates were either older than me or not even born yet. It seemed remiss of me not to at least try and interact with an appropriately aged 'waifu'. Justifying my possibly stupid decision in this way I replied, "Well Elena, I cannot offer much to you besides a sincere apology. You certainly do not look like a woman who lacks gold. So perhaps a favor sometime in the future? I will be starting my first year in Hogwarts this year and given that you are also getting fitted for Hogwarts, you should be able to find me easily enough in the castle."

If she was surprised at my age, she didn't show it though the slightly cold and robotic look on her face told me she was using Occlumency which was telling in itself. Still it was my turn to be surprised by this woman again as she replied, " I did not realize you were so young Gilderoy. You must be quite talented. As for your compensation… well if you give me 25 Galleons I will forget about this matter."

Fortunately, thanks to Occlumency, I did not make an impression of a gaping fish this time at this sudden turn around. I silently and awkwardly converted some of my money to galleons before handing it to her. She quickly counted the money and said to me with a cunning fox-like smile, " You are forgiven Gilderoy. I hope you have a pleasant day."

I could only watch the charming girl strut away, still a little stunned at these strange turn of events. I, Gilderoy Lockhart, wizarding extraordinaire and future leader of the wizarding world, was just shaken down by a teenage girl. Suddenly I heard Elena's pleasant voice speak to me telepathically again, ' If you promise not to be so rude next time we meet, I would not be averse to talking to you again Gilderoy.'

Despite the decidedly negative interaction we had just had, I could not help but feel tempted again by the feeling of promise her voice seemed to contain. What a minx of woman. No wonder she was able to get married seven times in the future despite the obvious risk. Elena was more dangerous than I had thought.

I left my thoughts on the incident behind as it was finally my turn to be measured. After getting my robes, I was finally done shopping and we quickly made our way home. Upon reaching home, I promptly forgot all about Elena and focused on more important things. I now finally had my own wand which meant that my real magical journey had officially begun!

AN/: So first chapter done. A Basic introduction of the MC. I think changing Lockhart from zero to hero would be pretty interesting. I have taken some slight liberties with a few people's ages but not anything to break the original timeline. More like some people are a few years older or younger. So no Hermione and Luna stuffed into the Marauders timeline. So sad. Still, I think there are many interesting characters in the current timeline. I have a basic roadmap I am following so fingers crossed on how this goes.

Given the nature of Waifu Catalog, I increased the Hogwarts age so no cringy kids flirting. I have not included the complete descriptions of the Catalog powers as that would just needlessly increase word count but I think I did a decent job of alluding to what each power does. If enough people request it, I can add them at the bottom in a future AN.

Fair Warning that I will try to do my best for world building and character building so if anyone here is for a fast paced harem fantasy with the MC kicking Dumbledore and Voldemort''s ass by year 4, you will probably be disappointed. I personally always dislike how many MC's in the 'Harry era' manage to somehow become strong enough to beat Dumbledore and Voldemort so quickly.

Anyways as always please follow and review!
