Rory downed her drink and left the glass on their table. She was heading back to the bar for another when Logan caught her by the hand. "Dance with me?" he asked.
She looked out at the dance floor and saw that her grandparents had begun dancing along with a few other couples, mostly her grandparents' friends. She grinned at him, "Of course."
Logan spun her across the floor with a flourish until he caught her in his arms very close. She stopped about a millimeter from his lips - she resisted kissing him, delaying the kiss made it sweeter. "Didn't want to kiss me?" he whispered.
"Of course I did," she replied. She put her hand on his cheek, tilted his face toward her and kissed him passionately.
Before she pulled away, she had Karen Anderson in her face. "WHAT are you doing?" she screeched. "You're engaged to my son!"
Rory's mouth dropped open because Stewart was allowing this to happen. He STILL hadn't told his family! "NO I'M NOT." she replied sternly. Before she knew it, Emily, Richard, Lorelei, Luke, Stewart and his father had all gathered.
But the person who spoke up was Finn. "On the contrary, Madame. Your SON cheated on my friend here so she dumped him over a week ago!"
Karen's face turned red and she was indignant, "Of course he didn't. My Stewart would never do that!"
By now the band had quieted down and more people were staring. "Well he did," Rory replied quietly.
Richard said, "Karen, I suggest you all go somewhere quiet and discuss this as a family."
"And leave my granddaughter out of it!" Emily chimed in.
Lorelei stood there with her arms crossed and gave Karen an icy blue stare. Karen looked at Stewart who was now a few steps behind her and asked, "Well?"
"It was nothing. She'll get over it," he said flippantly.
Colin shot back, "She already has. Do you all need directions out of here or what?" He took a few steps toward them and then turned to Richard, "Did he even GO to Yale?"
Richard shook his head, "Not to my knowledge," he said with a haughty grin.
Even Shira and Mitchum were now milling around. Emily declared, "Well, I've always said Yale men are the very best men."
Shira replied, "Finally something we agree on."
Logan and Rory glanced at each other as though they had ventured into another dimension. "What the fuck?!" Logan whispered to Rory.
Finally Rory said quietly, "Stewart, its really over. Its time for you to go. I wish you well, but we're done."
Stewart pursed his lips and then sniffed once. He finally said, "You will regret this. And I won't be there when you want me back."
Luke stepped in front of Rory and finally said, "Dude. She's made it clear. Its time for you to go." Stewart looked back at Rory and Lorelei said, "Now."
Emily barked at the band, "Why is there no music? There's nothing to see here!" and they immediately launched into a big band number.
Slowly, Stewart and his family gathered their things and left while Mitchum joked and said, "Always fireworks at a Gilmore event, right?"
Richard took Emily's hand took her back to the dance floor while Shira asked Logan, "Really. What was that all about?"
"Exactly what you overheard. They were engaged, she caught him cheating, she dumped him, she moved on," Finn summed it up rather nicely. "He was a rather dull one, too. She's better off, no?" he asked Colin.
Colin nodded, "She is for sure." He gestured to Logan who was whispering in Rory's ear about something as they shared a private joke. Finn and Colin's dates approached and said they were bored and wanted to dance. The boys were dragged off leaving Rory and Logan with his parents.
Mitchum asked Logan, "So, what are you doing these days?"
Logan hedged and replied, "Oh, you know..."
Mitchum shook his head, "I don't. Care to clarify?"
Logan shook his head. "Its nothing that would interest you."
Shira admonished Logan, "Logan, couldn't you be civil to your father? Its a social event, after all."
Logan took a deep breath, glanced at Rory and then said, "I guess now is the perfect time to introduce you to the woman in my life. I guess you already know Rory Gilmore?" He smirked at them.
Mitchum returned the smirk and said, "Yes, of course we know her. Her name is on the building." Mitchum cleared his throat and said, "I always wondered how long it would take for you two to reconcile."
"You did?" Rory asked.
"Of course. I knew you were supposed to be together ever since you yelled at me in the elevator," Mitchum said with a sly grin.
"Well, isn't that lovely," Shira said with a truly fake smile.
Logan said to his parents, "We're going to try to enjoy the event." He took Rory by the hand and led her back to the dance floor.
Shira told Mitchum, "I can't believe he's back with HER! She's just beneath him, Mitchum."
Mitchum sighed loudly. "Dear, you are at an event at YALE in a building that bears her name. She isn't as low class as you make her out to be..." Shira opened her mouth to say something but he cut her off. "And she never was. And you know it."
Across the room, Lorelei whispered to Luke, "Well, that was exciting."
Luke shrugged, "I hate coming to this thing. But this year, I really liked the new projection. April would like it. I think I want to bring her one day."
Lorelei nodded, "She really would. Hey, actually is she still looking for an internship during the summer? I know someone here."
Luke beamed at her, "She might really like that. She plans to major in aeroscience."
Rory and Logan caught their eye while dancing. Rory waved to them and Luke nodded at her. He told Lorelei, "She looks happy."
Lorelei squinted at him. "I thought you didn't like Logan."
Luke shrugged. "I didn't know Logan. But I have to admit, she hasn't looked this happy since the last time they were together."
Lorelei smiled. "He's her lobster."
