The next morning:

Here comes Ruby bursting through the bedroom door at a bright and early 8am.

"YANG! Get up, get up, get up! We get to see what your semblance does today!"

Yang was already awake, but not budging. She was curled up in a ball still trying to get comfortable from going to bed just a few hours ago. "Ruby, not right now."

"But what about your semblance? Come on! We have to see what it can do."

"Ruby, I said no, not right now. Besides, I can't do anything with my semblance without dad around."

"Dad is already home. He got up super early today."

Yang sighed "Look Ruby, I just don't feel the best right now."

"Oh… is the whole period thing that bad?"

"Yeah… it feels like someone has been punching me over and over again in the stomach. Not to mention the blood. Wait, you said Dad is back already?"

"Yeah he got back like 30 minutes ago."

"Thank goodness." Yang shot up out of bed, hoping her Dad was able to figure out what she needed. Stopping in her tracks to look down. Her shorts and legs were way worse than they were last night. Ruby's eyes became massive.

"Oh my god, Yang. That's so much blood, are you okay? Is that normal?"

Ruby's concern made Yang feel slightly embarrassed. "I… I'm not sure. Could you go grab me a towel?"

Ruby shook her head yes and took off. Now looking in the mirror, Yang couldn't help but think, is this normal? It did seem like a lot of blood and her cramps are extremely painful. She started to tear up and Ruby came flying back in just as fast as the first time this morning. Noticing the tears in Yang's eyes and the few rolling down her cheeks.

"What's wrong?" Ruby asked as she handed her the clean towel.

"Nothing. I just really wish mom were here. I know Dad is trying and I appreciate it, but she'd know exactly what to do and I wouldn't feel and look like this right now." throwing her arms down to her sides.

Ruby didn't know how to comfort her big sister besides giving her a hug. "I wish she were here too."

With that Yang wrapped the fresh towel around her shorts and took a deep breath. "Okay here comes another conversation with Dad that's probably going to be awkward and embarrassing. Wanna come with me?"

"Uh sure I guess. After hearing what I heard last night, I don't know how well I'm going to listen." Ruby shuddered at the thought of the sex talk Ty had with Yang.

"That's fine, you don't have to listen. I told you I'll have you covered when you get your first period. I just want the moral support for the moment and plus Dad won't go back into a sex talk if you're there."

"Okay I'll come."

"Thanks, Ruby."

Now heading towards the living room with one hand holding up the towel around her waist, and the other running through her hair, she was trying to mentally prepare herself for this conversation. Meanwhile Ruby flew past Yang and jumped on the couch sitting upside down next to Ty.

"Hi, Dad! Good morning again!"

Ty smiled rubbing Ruby's head before he returned to rummaging through the bags he had on the coffee table.

"Uh… hey Dad." Yang's face was red with embarrassment. Thinking about all of last night and now standing here wrapped in a towel. "Did you figure out everything?"

"Hey, sunshine. Yeah I think so. I called Glynda, an old friend from my time at Beacon. She gave me a quick run down, but I still bought a little bit of everything so you'd have some options."

Ty started taking everything he bought and setting it up nicely across the coffee table, almost proud of himself. Still not extremely confident on what's what, even after his phone call, he wasn't going to leave his little girl clueless.

"Okay, so bear with me." Grabbing boxes holding them up, "From my understanding these are tampons and these pads. I also got this menstrual cup thing, I actually have zero idea on how it works, but Glynda said start with the pads because they're less intimidating than everything else."

Yang's face continued to grow red, looking away from the couch she crouched beside the coffee table. The cramps really were a different type of pain. A pain that didn't seem like it was going to lighten up any time soon.

"Yang, honey are you okay?" Ty asked with his voice full of concern.

Yang waited a moment to respond, her mind was too focused on the pain her body was experiencing.

"No, not really. These cramps are worse than last night. Did Glynda say anything to do about cramps?"

"Uhhh no I don't think she did. I should have asked, but hey wait there a second."

Ruby and Yang watched their Dad disappear into the kitchen. Flipping herself around on the couch now, Ruby whispered to her sister. "Are you going to ask Dad if all that blood is normal?"

"No. I don't want to show him and I don't think he'd actually know."

Ty came walking back into the living room with something in his hand. "I wish I would have thought of it sooner for you, but your mom used to use this hot water bottle when she had cramps."

Handing it to Yang, she immediately sat on the floor and laid it across her abdomen. Ty couldn't help but think about Summer again. Thinking how she would have had Yang and Ruby more than prepared for all of this.

"So, where was I?"

Ruby, who was now sitting on the floor next to Yang, responded "Pads." Before returning to her infatuation with the hot water bottle, she really wanted to poke it.

"Right, thanks Ruby. So yeah, Glynda said it was pretty self explanatory once you open one."

Yang finally cracked a smile for what seemed like forever to her. The relief she was finally feeling from the hot water bottle and gaining a little bit of knowledge on how to deal with it all created a sense of comfort.

"Do you have any more questions or concerns?"

"Nope. Not at the moment, thank you Dad. I know this whole thing was probably just as embarrassing for you as it was me."

With that Yang stood up, handed the hot water bottle to Ruby "Don't break it." Grabbed one of the many boxes off the coffee table and went to go get cleaned up. She stopped to turn around for a second.

"Give me 30 minutes and I'll meet you guys outside. Let's see what my semblance can do."

Ruby jumped up more excited than she originally was this morning. "REALLY, YANG?"

"You bet, sis." Yang continued on her way.

Ty was very happy with how this all seemed to be playing out nicely. He was interested to see how Yang's emotions were going to play into her semblance, but time will tell with that one. Ty chuckled to himself looking at Ruby poking that hot water bottle over and over again. He thought for a second, why not play a little joke on my daughter. He knew she didn't go all the way to her room last night because he never heard the door click, but Ruby didn't know he knew that.

"So Ruby, we need to have a little talk."

"That's okay, Dad. Yang told me she'd have me covered for the whole period thing."

"Well that's very kind of her, but that's not what I wanted to talk about."

"Oh okay then what did you want to talk about?"

"Sex."

Ruby stood up, looking around frantically. Thinking about how Yang said dad wouldn't bring up sex with her around. She needed to get out of there immediately. Trying to think of anything,

"Um… uh… I think I heard Yang yell for me, gotta go see if she's alright… BYE."

Ty threw his head back into the couch cushion, not being able to control his laughter. Ty sat there smiling thinking about how his girls are growing up so fast, and just how grateful he is for this little life with them.
