Emergency
"There she is." Punk smiled, sitting having breakfast in the kitchen as he watched AJ waddle into the living room.
"Don't." She shook her head, "I am not in the mood."
"You've just woken up." Punk chuckled, "I made you some pancakes. And if you don't have time to eat them I've sat out a container for you to take them to work." He told her as AJ looked at the pancakes sitting suspiciously.
"If it's sex you want, it's not gonna happen." AJ made clear as he looked over at her with confusion.
"I'm just being a good husband." Punk insisted, "I know you aren't sleeping much lately so-"
"I can't get comfy!" AJ whined as Punk looked over, "I can't lie on my back, it's not good for the baby. I can't lie on my side, my ribs get sore." She shook her head.
"Why don't you try lie on your stomach?" He teased as AJ turned to him, unhappily.
"I am seven months pregnant. My face looks like a balloon. I have to get my husband to shave… everything." She shook her head, placing her hands on the island in the kitchen, "And I still got two more months to go." She groaned.
"You look beautiful, and I'm… fine with the shaving thing. I'm pretty good at it now." He shrugged as she nodded in agreement, "Can't you reduce your shifts at work?"
"No, of course I can't." AJ sighed, "I'm going until I pop. In fact, I hope I'm on a shift when my waters break. Then I get to be the patient. I get to watch everyone take care of me. Not the other way around." She nodded to herself.
"You'll be in a lot of pain, I doubt you'll care about anyone else." Punk nodded.
"I have breathing exercises." AJ said, "I'm too good for pain." She nodded to herself as he chuckled.
"Can you eat the pancakes? Or eat something?" Punk asked, "If you insist on working like a crazy lunatic until you pop, you need fuel." He said.
"Oh, don't get all healthy, fit firefighter on me." AJ rolled her eyes, picking up one of the pancakes and eating it.
"You wanna hear something good that will make you feel so much better?" He asked her.
"What?" She looked over at him.
"The nursery will be finished tonight." He nodded as she smiled.
"Yeah?" AJ asked as he nodded.
"Yeah, I just got one more thing to do and then you can see it." He said as she smiled.
"Ok, that does make me feel better." She nodded as he smiled.
Although she still felt very good in her pregnancy, and had done for the majority of the months so far, these past few weeks had her completely exhausted. She was struggling to sleep with the growth of the baby. She was experiencing heart burn more frequently. And she just didn't feel her best self. Punk noticed immediately and was doing what he could to make her smile and laugh.
"I'll finish it when I get home." He told her as she smiled, walking over to him.
"Thank you for taking care of it." She smiled.
"I had fun. Maybe in another life I would have been a painter or something." He shrugged as she smiled, placing her hand on his head as he looked at her, "Am I a dog?" He questioned.
"Can I buy a pregnancy pillow?" She sighed as he looked at her with confusion.
"What's that?" He asked.
"It's just like a huge, long pillow, it might take up a little more room but I think it really might help me sleep better." She nodded.
"If it helps you, go for it." He said, "Why are you even asking me?" He laughed a little.
"Well it's… it's quite big so it might get in the way. I know sometimes you like to roll over and feel my ass in the middle of the night." She shrugged as he nodded.
"It comforts me." He nodded as she smiled, "Honey, if it helps you sleep, and it helps you feel better, order whatever you want." He said as she smiled.
"Whatever I want?" She smiled.
"Order the pillow." He corrected, "And eat your breakfast." He suggested as she smiled, leaning down and kissing him.
"God, I can hear you coming from a mile away with that huffing and panting." Renee scoffed, watching as AJ walked over to the nurses station where she was standing filling out paper work.
"You try walking around with a bowling ball attached to you." AJ said, handing a chart over to one of the nurses to file away.
"I hope to one day." Renee laughed, "Is it really that bad?"
"It's not bad. I'm just… super tired. It's kicking my ass lately." She admitted.
"You need that babymoon. Might be a little boring now cause you're so pregnant and the sex is probably boring but-"
"Uh… excuse me?" AJ looked at her, "Sex is just fine. Takes a little… longer to manoeuvre myself in certain positions but it still happens." She nodded as Renee chuckled, "I don't think the babymoon is gonna happen."
"Why?" Renee asked.
"We're not gonna get time off work. He's super busy and so am I." AJ shrugged, "We'll just have to have a babymoon… with the baby when it comes." She laughed a little.
"That's defeating the purpose of it." Renee nodded, "You can't even get like a weekend off?"
"No." AJ shook her head, "And he can't either. I've asked other neuro doctors if they'd cover for me but they all look at me with the disappointed smile, then they say I should really be here learning and studying." She rolled her eyes, "Kiss my ass I'm making a human here." She pointed to her stomach as Renee chuckled.
"Did you say that to them?" Renee asked.
"No. But I wanted to." AJ scoffed.
"We went to see Gerry last night." Renee told her.
"How is she doing?" AJ nodded.
"She's doing good. She was actually in a pretty good mood. She didn't recognise us but she was chatty." Renee nodded, "She's recovered really well from the surgery."
"I knew she would." AJ nodded, "I mean, physically she's a very capable woman. Not like she's old and frail. Just her… brain is ageing ahead of her." She shook her head.
"Yeah what a nasty thing." Renee sighed.
"Guess what I get to see when I go home?" She smiled.
"What?" Renee looked at her.
"My baby's nursery." AJ smiled happily.
"It's finished?" Renee asked.
"Phil is finishing it when he gets off work tonight." AJ nodded, "I mean I've basically saw it for the most part but I've not saw it with the crib in it yet. He built it last night." She said.
"Oh, how sweet. You'll need to send me pictures." Renee nodded.
"I also ordered a pregnancy pillow, and it should arrive tonight. Same day delivery bargain." AJ nodded happily.
"Oh, Phil is gonna hate that." Renee chuckled.
"No he won't. He'll be happy as long as I'm comfy." AJ nodded as Renee just smiled.
"Hey, do you wanna take a trip up to maternity and listen to all the woman giving birth?" Renee smiled as AJ glared at her, "Just for some heads up."
"I have a birthing plan and it's all going to go perfectly." AJ nodded to herself.
"I hope it does." Renee nodded seriously, "Let me guess, you're gonna be a no drugs mom."
"I can do it without them." AJ shrugged.
"Hey, you do you." Renee nodded, "You don't need to commit to anything right now, though." She assured her.
"I know. And I know things can change when it all happens." AJ nodded, "But that's my plan and I hope to stick to it."
"A pregnancy pillow?" Frank, one of the firefighters chuckled, sitting over by the truck, "Dude, you're so screwed." He laughed as a few of them sat on their lunch break.
"How am I screwed? It's a pillow." Punk shook his head.
"No, this ain't just a pillow." Frank said, "My wife got one when she was pregnant. I couldn't see her in bed anymore. It was huge. Like another damn person."
"Oh, no more sweet nothings in your ear until my niece or nephew comes." Dean chuckled in Punk's direction.
"I don't care, if it helps her sleep then… whatever." Punk shrugged.
"I said that at first too." Frank nodded, "Then I wanted to put it through a shredder." He shook his head as Punk chuckled.
"Having sex with a pregnant chick must be weird." Dean nodded.
"Why would it be weird?" Punk turned to him.
"I don't know." Dean shrugged.
"You'll grow up one day, Dean." Frank nodded to him as Punk chuckled.
"I am grown." Dean scoffed as Punk smiled.
"You still don't know the gender?" Frank asked Punk who shook his head.
"No we're just waiting." Punk said.
"Does that mean you gotta get a name ready for both scenarios?" Dean asked.
"Yeah, and we already do." Punk nodded, "I'm not telling you, though." He smiled as Dean rolled his eyes.
They got to their feet immediately when they heard the emergency bell going off, abandoning their lunch and getting into the truck in seconds.
"What we got today?" Dean asked, taking behind the wheel as he waited for the location going into the GPS.
"Uh… we got…" Punk paused for a second as he saw the address.
"What?" Dean turned to him, pulling out of the garage.
"It's… It's the hospital." Punk looked on, "There's a fire in the hospital."
