Prologue

Auradon Prep was abuzz with all sorts of noise that day, the day of the arrival of the kids from the Isle. Most people had their share of opinions on it, of course, and not all of them were positive. A lot of people were hesitant about letting the children of some of the worst of the worst join them in their little land of paradise. Only a few were trying to look at the positive side of it.

Out of everyone, she must have been the second most eager for it- the first being the one to make the decree, Ben.

Kagome tapped her pencil on her notebook, letting sapphire blue eyes sweep over at the figure sitting next to her. Class was boring that day, her lessons dragging on much to her impatience. She was never much for being patient, despite her mother's well-known composed demeanor.

An elbow lodged in her side, and she glared at the silver-haired boy next to her. "Geeze, Inuyasha, way to be gentle," she hissed in a whisper before breaking out in a giggle. He smirked back at her and leaned closer, ears atop his head twitching in a rhythm at hearing her laugh.

"Knock it off with the pencil tapping, it's annoying," he snapped back, but his tone lacked any irritation or annoyance despite his words. Kagome pursed her lips and shook her head.

"I'm a little eager, so what?" She huffed, dropping her pencil on the table in front of her and folding her arms over her chest. Her cheeks tinged red and she downcast her gaze back to her open notebook. Her smile wasn't lost on Inuyasha as he looked her way. "It's nice... isn't it?" she asked quietly. "Kids from the Isle are finally getting a chance, one that they'd probably never have in any other situation. I'm all for Ben's idea."

Hearing the gentle tone she spoke with, Inuyasha huffed and slouched to the opposite side some. He rested his cheek on the palm of his hand as he glanced at her from the corner of his eye. The sound caught her attention in an instant, and she picked her head up to look fully at him. He felt the pressure of her stare, but only silence followed her prior statement as she patiently waited for him to speak what was on his mind.

"I… just think you tend to get way too invested in things like this for your own good, y'know?" He glanced away from her when he saw the way his words brought a troubled gleam to her radiant sapphire-colored eyes. "Not saying it's a bad thing or anything like that, it's just…"

He hesitated on saying anymore. He knew it was a sensitive subject for her, and he turned his head back so he could see her face. He saw her long, raven locks falling around her face and hiding her expression from view. After a moment, she picked her head up, and blue met amber.

"... A child doesn't have to be like their parent," she said softly, and his ears flattened against his skull when he heard her dejected tone. "It's not right for us all to look at them like they're automatically bad seeds because of their parents. They haven't even had a chance to show what they're made of. We just have to have a little bit of faith in the goodness in people."

"Not everyone has that good, though," he grumbled.

"Not with that kind of attitude, they don't," Kagome argued back. "Everyone is capable of having a good heart, they just have to be encouraged to accept it. No one is born evil. They become evil and then lose the good inside them." She sighed and shook her head. "More importantly, everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves. It's not right to just brush them off with the idea that they're bad just because they happen to be children of villains."

A bell echoed through the building, signaling the break in lessons, and Kagome gathered her stuff up like the others around her. Her long raven hair fell in messy waves down her back, bangs framing her heart-shaped face.

"Y'know," Inuyasha started, and he paused as he waited for Kagome's attention to land back on him. She looked his way, her notebook still in hand, and waited for him to say what was on his mind. "I know you're all for redemption and all that jazz, but not everyone can see it the way you do." He saw her frown, and he hurried to finish what he wanted to say to save him the trouble of irritating his friend. "But if you think they can be different, then who's to say they can't? As long as you believe in them, then I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt, too."

Kagome smiled at his words and nearly dropped her notebook to envelop him in a hug. Once the surprise he felt melted from her abrupt dive, he returned the gesture.

The pair didn't always get along, and they had more than their share of fights and disputes, but in the end, they were friends who would always have each other's backs. His brash nature was complemented by her turbulent temper, and her kind demeanor always rivaled his rude mannerisms. More often than not, she was one of the only ones who could get him to do something he didn't want to do, while with nearly anyone else he'd just ignore them.

"There you two are." A different voice called through the room, the sound even and calm. At once, Inuyasha's attention turned to the sound.

Well… almost, before a head of raven hair bounded in front of him and blocked his view.

Kagome smiled at the familiar face and raised a hand to greet the newcomer. "Kikyo!"

Brown eyes met her blue ones, and a smile appeared on her calm face at the sight of the younger twin. "I think Sango was looking for you, Kagome," Kikyo said as she made her way to join the two. Her long, sleek hair was pulled back in a neat ponytail. The straightness of her hair was the polar opposite of the messiness of her younger sister's. "She sounded quite upset," Kikyo said, holding her finger up to her chin as she thought back to the brunette she'd run into on her way down. "Something about Miroku and that she needed to speak to you," she said finally.

Kagome sighed and shook her head. "Why am I not surprised..." she trailed off before trotting around her sister. "Well, see you later! I'm off to find her."

"She was on her way back to your room, so check there!" Kikyo called to the girl as she left the classroom.

As she left, Kikyo glanced at Inuyasha with curious eyes. "What were you two talking about in here?" she asked, and her words pulled his attention to her. Inuyasha rubbed the back of his head and shrugged.

"Those kids coming over from the Isle," he said, and Kikyo felt a frown pull at her mellow expression. A second later, it faded and she replaced it with a smile.

"Well, you know how she is," Kikyo said. "She's a lot like our mother, after all." Her hand brushed the halved chunk of the pink jewel embedded in the white cloth choker. The rough edge was face-down, leaving the curved surface to face the world. "I can't say I'm not hopeful for the best, either, you know."

"Shouldn't you two be the most hesitant to let some villain kids over, though?" he said after a minute. "After all… your mother…-" He stopped himself a second too late, figuring the subject was better off left untouched.

Her fingers froze over the pink circled stone, and she frowned again. "Still… we can't let that cloud our hearts."

She wove through the masses going every which way as she made her way back to the dorm she shared with her friend. With her lessons over for the day, she didn't have to worry about missing any classes, and so she went on the path she knew very well. There was a hustle of people scrambling to get to their next class, given they had one, and she darted around the large throngs of people the best she could.

She was a girl of short stature and a delicately thin build, but only to those who weren't familiar with her. Those who did know her, no matter how well, were keen to know she possessed much more than a marginal amount of physical strength. At first glance, her docile and dainty appearance and gentle approach to any given situation made her seem like the typical princess, a damsel for a knight and shining armor to guard. However, she also had a wildcard of a temper, and it was never any good for the people who were unlucky enough to end up on her bad side. Paired with her strength, she was certainly capable of defending herself, and she was most definitely not a helpless damsel.

She felt her brow twitch when she got mushed in between people walking either way. With a frustrated huff, Kagome came to a halt where she stood. Someone ran into her back and nearly knocked her over. An annoyed grimace passed over her face as she glanced behind her at the figure who'd just waltzed into her back. He reeled back as if he'd been stung, stepping back, and Kagome turned back to facing forward.

"Okay, that's it," she hissed under her breath. Without waiting, she tightened her grip on her notebook and turned sharply to the right. A garbage can against a pillar caught her eye and she closed the few, short steps towards it. She braced herself with her free hand on the pillar behind the can and leaped up to stand on the rim of the metal can, feet parted to keep it steady underneath her.

She was about to jump off on the other side, free and out of the cluster of bodies when the trash can abruptly moved under her. Her balance tipped a bit too much forward and she fell with a surprised yelp. However, to her relief, she didn't hit the hard tile. Her notebook flopped to the ground, but she, luckily, didn't suffer the same fate.

A pair of hands caught her on either arm before she could meet her rough landing, a quiet laugh ringing in her ears a second later. It was far from teasing, teetering much more on the relieved side, and from a voice she knew very well.

"You know you need to stop doing stuff like that Kagome," Ben said as he kept her from slipping any further as she righted herself on her own feet. "Lucky I was passing through. Otherwise, you'd be off to the infirmary, you know?"

She straightened her posture, smoothing down her skirt with both palms as she shrugged. "If the can hadn't been kicked, then I wouldn't have fallen," she muttered back. She was about to stoop to pick up her notebook, only to freeze in her actions when Ben beat her to it. He carefully picked her book back up, tucking a few loose sheets back inside the pages, and he held it out to her. She beamed up at him and took the notebook. "Thanks!"

"You know how you can really thank me?" he asked as he started to walk, motioning for her to follow alongside him. Since she needed that direction too, she decided to fall in step beside him. Kagome looked up at him and laughed quietly when she saw the way he was looking at her. Still, she humored him and nodded his way, waiting for him to say what he wanted. "Stop doing that," he said, and she laughed quieter this time.

"You can ask all you want, but I'm not gonna stop doing it," she said.

"You're going to get hurt," Ben responded.

"You don't know that," Kagome replied with a grin. Ben sighed and closed his eyes, shaking his head.

"You know, you're unbelievable," he said, laughing quietly a second later. He looked back at her. "Anyway, I have a request of you."

Kagome blinked, turning curious eyes up to look at him. "What is it?"

"It's short notice, I know, but I'd like for you to join me in welcoming the VKs as a representative," he explained, reaching out to catch her arm before she stepped too far away. "You're done with your last class, right?"

"Ah.." Kagome nodded. "I'm done with classes, but I was actually heading back to my dorm. Sango needs to talk to me about something." She hadn't explicitly said yes or no, and Ben looked at her as he waited for her answer. He caught the second part of her response, and he nodded.

"If it's urgent, I don't want to keep you," he said, but Kagome shook her head.

"I wouldn't call it urgent," she said. "Just…- boy trouble, is more like it." She looked back at Ben and smiled. "I'm sure she won't mind if I take a bit longer. I know she'll want to vent as soon as I get back to our room."

"So it's a yes?" he asked, a grin appearing on his face, and she nodded.

"I think I can spare a few minutes," she said.

Her words made his smile grow larger. She was one of the few who were vehemently glad and in agreement with this decision, and he wanted the new faces from the Isle to be welcomed by someone who was warm and friendly. Someone who'd help them feel a bit more welcomed, and not the opposite.

With her acceptance of his question, the pair made their way to the waiting place. Before long, they'd arrive from their trip from the Isle over the bridge.

They'd been waiting for a few minutes, occasionally saying something to each other to prevent silence from settling over them. After a quick beat, Ben turned back to her, the sudden focus on her making her look up at him.

"You know, I'm grateful that you're so on board with this," he admitted. "I know a lot of people are really hesitant about letting the villain kids off the Isle, but not you," he said, and Kagome smiled. "You're different, Kagome."

"Everyone deserves a chance," Kagome said, and Ben nodded in agreement. "The new generation doesn't have to be like the previous," she said her voice going soft as she lifted her hand. She pressed slim fingers to the pink stone pressed firm into a metal base, a sterling silver chain keeping the pink and silver pendant level just below her collar bones.

Before long, she was startled out of her thoughts by a car finally pulling up. Kagome lowered her hand back down at her side along with her other one.

The four new figures got out of the car, and Ben was quick to welcome them and introduce himself. Not even waiting a breath, he turned to her, and introduced her to them, as well.

"This is Kagome," Ben said, sweeping an arm out in her direction as he stepped up to her side. "As a representative of Auradon, you're more than welcome to come to her if you need anything or have questions, as well."

The four in front of her radiated an abundance of different emotions that she could feel. Unease, caution, annoyance… to name a few she could pick up with complete clarity.

"Right," Kagome mused with a faint hum underlining her words. "Mal and Evie," she said, her eyes focused on the two girls of the group before she moved to the two guys alongside them, "and Carlos and Jay." She repeated the names to herself to ingrain them into her memory. A second later she looked at the group as a whole and smiled, definitely feeling the wave of surprise that came from them when she offered them a look of complete serenity. "New surroundings can be hard to get used to navigating, but I'd be happy to help you around if you ever need it. You can definitely come to me."

Ben nodded and stepped in then. "Right! That brings me to what's next," he said, and he looked back at the group. "How about I show you around?" Ben suggested, and he was about to urge Kagome along with him, but his hand met air when she backed up a few paces. He turned back to her, and she grinned at him before looking back at the other four new faces.

"It was nice to meet you four, and I'd love to help you find your way around, but it's gonna have to be another date for me," Kagome said as she looked back at Ben. "I've kept Sango waiting for a while now. I should get going."

Ben turned back to her for a moment, cheeks tinting pink a bit. "Oh, right," he said. "You needed to go see her, didn't you?"

Kagome nodded and waved as she took a few steps back before finally turning away. "See you guys around!"

When she made it back to their shared room, Kagome was greeted by the sight of Sango lying face down in her bed. Her head was buried in her pillows, and her pet cat Kirara was sitting in the middle of her back, peering at her quizzically. Kirara's twin tails were flicking in a rhythm, and she turned to face the opening door as soon as Kagome stepped into the room. She greeted her, as well as alerted Sango of her presence, with a loud "mew!"

Sango rolled over as Kirara hopped off her back, turning brown eyes towards the doorway. She was slow to sit up, pulling her legs under her and sitting on them as Kagome closed the door behind her. As the ravenette promptly dropped her things off on her own bed, Sango asked, "What took so long?" She'd expected her to be back a while ago.

Kagome came to sit next to her on her bed, giving her a small, apologetic look. "Sorry, it took longer than I thought it would," she said.

"What did?"

"Ben wanted me to greet the kids from the Isle with him," Kagome said, and she felt Sango's stare on her a second later.

"I forgot that was today," she said as she turned more towards her. "So? What do you think of them?" she asked the raven-haired girl.

"Well…" Kagome threaded her fingers together on her lap, glancing down as she thought about Sango's question. "I wasn't there for long," she admitted. "I don't really know what I think of them right now, but I can say that they seem… okay," she said after a moment's thought.

She didn't want to outright call them good, considering they'd been raised by villains, and being bad was the one thing they probably knew to be true, but she also didn't want to call them bad, because they didn't come off that way to her. Most people at Auradon would assume them to be bad and nothing more due to who their parents were, but above that, they were living beings, and, as such, they were more than a simple label. Just because they were from the Isle didn't make their souls and personalities any less complex.

Kagome shook her head and offered Sango a bright smile. "At the very least, I get the feeling they'll make a nice addition to everyday life here," she said with a quiet laugh. "It's important to welcome with an open mind, after all."

Sango smiled and nodded in agreement. She had said those words so confidently with an expression that radiated tranquility. It brought back thoughts and memories of a woman she only knew through the stories told about her. The magnificent, benevolent, and pure-hearted Princess Midoriko. The woman who conquered and vanquished pure evil and darkness, even at the cost of her own life.

Her gaze strayed to the pink stone around Kagome's neck. It glittered brilliantly, even in the dim light of their room. It was identical to Kikyo's, and if they were combined then they'd create the powerful jewel known as the Shikon no Tama. Unlike other items similar and different from it, it hadn't been stored in the museum. Instead, it was permitted to remain in their hands. After all, it was better off separated as it was.

"So what'd he do this time?" Kagome asked, her question pulling Sango from her thoughts. At once, a gleam of irritation flashed through her chocolate eyes, and she bolted up from the bed.

"Do you even have to ask?" she asked as she folded her arms over her chest. "Miroku was off flirting with another girl- I dunno who, I don't care about whatever her name is! Can you believe that? Well, yeah, you probably can since he does it every other day!" She set her hands on her hips, shoving her thumbs through the belt loops of her pants as her momentary anger faded and got replaced by sadness. "... he didn't even notice I saw him until I was right across from him…" she added on, her tone fading from harsh to soft.

Kagome frowned at Sango's dejected tone.

"Every time I think he might actually feel the way I do, he does this…" Sango said, her voice quiet as she sat back down next to Kagome on the bed. "I dunno, maybe I'm wasting my time with him. I definitely don't get the feeling he'll change any time soon, and I feel so dumb for getting my hopes up every time."

Kagome set her palm on Sango's shoulder, patting her comfortingly a few times. They'd had similar conversations many times before, and she could sympathize with Sango's frustration towards their friend.

"He's an idiot," Kagome stated flatly, and Sango puffed her chest out as she nodded in agreement.

"Definitly," Sango said. A second later, she sighed louder and threw herself backward so she was lying across her bed. "Maybe I am too since I still like him."

Kagome shook her head and turned her body so she was looking at Sango. "No, no you're not," she said. "I mean, it's obvious that Miroku does like you, even though he flirts with every single girl that so much as looks in his direction," Kagome said. "Because he always comes back to you." Kagome paused and sighed, "I don't think there's anything wrong with hoping for him to change for the better, but I think you should start putting yourself first."

"..."

Kagome looked back at Sango, spotting her absentmindedly petting Kirara as she silently absorbed her words. Since she hadn't said anything, she took it as a sign to continue. "Yeah, so you like him. So what? Sango, you're strong, smart, and so great, and if he can't see that then it's his loss. Let's face it, he's never gonna find someone as great as you."

"Mew!" As if she was backing her up, Kirara's high-pitched mew echoed her words. Sango smiled and nodded.

"You're right," she said. "It's his loss," she repeated those words as she sat up. Those words had made her feel a bit better, at least. "Thanks," Sango said, throwing her arms around Kagome's shoulders in a hug. Kagome returned it and beamed brightly.

"Anytime!"

Before either of them could say anything, there was a rapid knock on her door. Kagome blinked, confused by the sudden noise. Both girls looked at one another before Kagome shrugged and went to open the door. The person outside the door knocked again, this time it getting cut off mid-knock when she opened the door.

"Yes?" she asked, pulling the door open and letting it swing out of the way. To her surprise, she was greeted by Doug. Along with him were the four newest faces at Auradon. She blinked, surprised, but still managed to pull a warm smile onto her face at the sight of them. "Oh, hey, Doug. What's up?" she asked turning to face him fully.

She didn't see Ben anywhere in sight, and she figured there must've been something he needed to do after giving the four a little look around.

"Oh, are these the kids from the Isle?" Sango asked as she came to join Kagome at the door. She stopped a few paces behind the short, raven-haired girl, and looked over the group.

"Yes," Doug said, and he waved them forward. After a moment's contemplation, both Sango and Kagome stepped out into the hall with the group. "Ben had it arranged so Mal and Evie here would have the room next to yours," he said, motioning to the two girls of the group. The next second, he looked at the two new girls. "On the other side is Kagome's sister."

Kagome nodded. "Yeah, you'll see her around eventually. Hard to miss when we sorta look alike," she said with a faint laugh. "She doesn't have a roomie though, so it's just her."

Auroua-chan: This will cover the course of all 3 movies, just a heads up.

Moving on-

For current chapters, I don't have Kagome paired with anyone. There will most likely be implications of Jay/Kagome and Ben/Kagome (sparingly) but plot-wise, endgame pair for her will be Harry/Kagome.

About the jewel- Kagome and Kikyo both have half of the jewel. Kikyo's is in her choker necklace, and Kagome's is in her silver pendant.

This is technically an IU!AU, but it's not at the same time. Or it's not a full AU.

Anyway, that's it for now. Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before uploading, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
