Chapter 2: Bollocks and Flying Bull – Frogs

/

Haha! I got a laugh out of the title, just read on. It's a hoot! (pun!)

/

Blinking at the books in his lap on the floor of the large library, Raku hugged his knees to his chest and left his magic to flip a page before John C his mentor bounded through the door of the House of Mystery.

He was winded, bite marks covered his face and claws as Raku rocked to standing to tend to his teacher's state.

"Stand back, lad." John instructed. "We've got company." He turned to the door as Raku watched in horrific fascination as the locks turned to sand before them.

"What's going on, John?"

"The hell if I damn well can guess, lad! You need to hide those tomes and get to higher ground –

"How high??"

The door banged back into them as the breach was easy, whatever had broken the seal holding this place reality…

It couldn't get much worse as Raku panicked and hiccupped, his powers creating a vortex as John slapped his own face and groaned.

"Not now, shite ! –

Yet the rumble of animosity was heard far and wide across universes; the JLA had been forced to fight off the strange creature as Diana sent it packing once a new gateway littered them with hairy spiders a plenty.

"Is this a joke??? Why is it raining insects??? Batman! Is this one a' yours' doing this??"

"I don't know w –

"Look out!!"

The spiders were mercilessly zapped and caged within a strange container of magic, dark magic as a person of honorable lunar rites ascended onto their plane whilst levitating. Her angry aura was violent, yet the spiders all cowered, while Bruce nodded, knowing fully who she was.

"Hello, Cecelia." He nodded to her as she just curtly did so, capturing te rouge and frightened critters, only to extend her fangs at the bat. Her widow totem's venom dripped, yet was not there to kill. The fangs of her allies only retracted as her golden orbs fell onto the JLA's second in command. The one with connections to the events taking their world by storm.

~ WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO OUR WORLD??? ~ She growled and bellowed, hoping that he could reach the ones in his call to stop the collapse of the gods' planes.

"I don't know what this is." He said to her calmly, knowing death many a time even at his luckless age.

~ You'd better figure that out then. ~ With a snap of her fingers, the spiders were brought back to her plane. As many widows as there were mates.

~ I want an answer by the next moon's presence. There will be an eternal winter after all…~ She was the vassal of Hecate, the goddess of witches, an eternal limbo of darkness and the crossroads that this crone maiden expected the bat to follow. Her order was absolute as he didn't even breathe a sigh. She understood by his stance and bid them away, while she closed the gate quickly.

"She…. did she know you??" Wally scratched his head as Batman let down his stance a moment to turn to his team. "That was a delegate of the Underworld, and she wants to know why there is a crisis in her world; we may have a common enemy, so I don't know much else…" Bruce admitted.

Diana flustered. "She must then know of the Gods of the underworld in her time. Roman and Greek. Was she not connected to Arachne?"

"No." Grunted the cowled hero as he rubbed the back of his neck to answer the Amazon.

"Hecate is who she'll end up being in a few more years. We have to find out why these holes are popping up."

"Atom can do a bit of digging." GL muttered to himself. "If STAR labs have any time to create a way –

"NO!"

Bruce jumped in at the right time; there was no going to that world, it wasn't safe as before.

"The spirit world where she is from is in danger, it's an archaic stomping ground for mythical monsters and powerful figures in mythology and folklore the world over. They were given sentience by an unknown force that is beyond our general understanding. No one is allowed to go to that plane without invitation from the inhabitants." Bruce told them all firmly. "Otherwise, that was what started this collapse in the first place."

/

"Humans decided it was ok to traverse between planes, and the void itself became distressed. Yet the Great Unknown creator of everything and nothing could not reach out, it could not sing nor starve to gain the attention of its creations…so death was the only option that remained…"

"That…. that can't be true!"

Slade sighed as Anna shook her head. "My powers…I never should have gotten them! What does it want?"

"To erase its mistake and to go back to the very beginning." Hades spoke to the two and over time, the reason he'd wanted Slade to watch Anna was to counter this purging by an unknown entity.

"What can we do to…reduce this sentence?" Slade asked the god, now in a mortal's guise to not be sent back so soon. "It will reject first its own kind, and later it will erase those of the in – between…"

"Ava!" Anna gasped. "She's still got her memories of being here with us! It…I can't do –

"Calm down. Ann." Slade coaxed the heroine to sit. "Hades; is there one single way to avert this crisis? Will it involve the heroes and other side to assist in diverting whatever mess we humans have caused your kind?"

"It was not you alone who hath angered the void's belonging…" Hades sighed and shook his head of long dark waves. "The gods too were to blame for lowering our walls. For eons and centuries, the realms we have kept to were hidden yet now…"

"If it is discovered by us, you can't stay." Ann buried her face into the sofa and screamed into it.

"She's not exploding?"

"She's still only human." Slade huffed. "Who is in charge of managing affairs like this one. Do you have a committee, a congress? A sect, something useful?"

"We are still in a state of unease due to Athena's plight. She has made a civil war possible in the future, thus a number of our brothers were pulled off of their podiums to keep silent."

"You put them in jail??" Ann gasped at the deity of darkness and order. "They didn't even have trails…. why?? That could be why the void is so pissed! –

"ANNA, please!" Slade snapped at his protégé. "This was going on when I talked with Astarte after Autur tricked me into asking for a god's title. I wanted to see for myself, yet she was also to blame. Your entire "family" is at each other's throats and this purge is not something they can fight together. They have to be taught a lesson."

"Slade, hell no are you going all war - monger on –

"SIT. DOWN."

" No way!" Anna snarled at the man as he stood up to walk over to a cabinet in the room, pulling out what looked…

"Don't you dare !"

She let her fire drag him into the mat, the tazer in his hand a reminder that she was still a threat to his ulterior plans.

Running for the exit, Anna's staff opened a rift with one cut, her fear of staying away from her siblings was too much…Ami! Ami was still here. She had to speak up, tell them everything Slade had blabbered about.

Before there were more gaps in the very fabric of space time to patch up.

/

Ava floated through time and into a void - less nothing for what seemed an eternity. She'd lost her body as Ava, not as Anya or Reia's incarnated child. She was….

Simply drifting into the dark….

A little flake of snow tumbled down, and then another as she witnessed the air above earth's atmosphere for the very first time.

/

Ami went outside and shivered in her mini pleated cosplay skirt while the rest of the concert goers took off for shelter.

"What ….is that thing!?" Kaede growled out at what seemed like a big block over the sun, as Ami soon saw snow falling and gasped up.

"Winter, already?" She looked to Haru who's kitsune eyes changed to slits at the environmental disaster above their heads. "IT is not." She sniffed the air currents and started to levitate before Ami and Kaede gripped the younger kit's leg to pull her down before someone saw.

"No magic!" Hissed Ami, the light from the snow thickening as it started to pelt the city.

/

From his lofty high rise, Shoji and Ayane were rushing out to not be locked into the haze, the dog's senses going off like a set of two antenna on his head. His ears perched there could only sense a faint calling, but no voice…as I this were the order of time and all things fighting back -

~ Why is it winter in this early a season? ~

"Not that Tokyo might allow in many more decades." Ayane answered with her fists to her sides, shaking a bit. "This is much more than a global transition, Shoji….but, it might be the day to finally go back home."
