By the time the sun came up and shined through the window into Carrie's room, Carrie's eyes sprinted awake. As she woke up and got out of bed,the first thing she did was listened in closely through the closed door. She was trying to hear anything that would say I f her mom was awake. She placed her ear on the door and so far, she heard nothing. Carrie sighed in relief. She moved towards her bed and pulled the basket out that had little Rebecca, who was still sleeping in it. Carrie looked at her quietly.
Today she had to go to school, she hated school, she hated Chris Hargensen and her group of friends. They had always been mean to Carrie ever since elementary school. Carrie never understood why everyone is so mean to her. Teachers would sit and ignore her cries for help. Only if something bad happened to Chris, maybe it would make life easier? Carrie couldn't be late for school, but, who would take care of Rebecca? Certainly not her mother, her mother would ignore Rebecca cries for needs and attention. That was when Carrie knew what she needed to do,she needed help! Carrie levitated her backpack towards her to open it up, and, to take out all of her books to make room for Rebecca. As she put Rebecca in her backpack, she kissed her on the forehead.
"Hope this makes you feel comfortable.",she said.
She closed the upper part of her backpack in a way to hide Rebecca. When Carrie walked downstairs, towards the front of the door, she heard a small cough. She turned around to see it was her mother standing at the kitchen. She looked scary, towering over Carrie.
"Where'd do you think you're going?",asked Margaret.
It was early enough for school to start, so seeing Carrie ready for school early enough as she should be was off.
"To school.",lied Carrie.
Margaret raised an eyebrow.
"School doesn't start till 8am. It's 6am in the morning, shouldn't you still be asleep!?",yelled Margaret.
Margaret looked closely at Carrie's backpack.
"Carrie, why does your backpack look heavier than it should?",asked Margaret.
"I have more books because I am reading more about religion.",lied Carrie.
"Really?",asked Margaret.
Carrie nodded in agreement, "Yes."
Margaret clapped with joy.
"Yes Carrie, finally! I know your going to understand me one of these days!",shouted Margaret happily.
Carrie smiled nervously as sweat formed beads on her forehead. Carrie felt her backpack shift with movement which means Rebecca is waking up!
"Momma, got to go!",she shouted.
Carrie quickly opened the door to step outside and close it behind her, without her mom even noticing that she left.
