The One Who Came Back

Chapter 24: Going Home

They entered the room followed by Pestonya and Kyouhukou. Inside, there was a large bed where two very young blonde twin girls lay. Both had their eyes open but didn't react to their presence.

"I used my vampiric hypnosis to look into their minds, but it's blank. They have no memories. This is one of the effects of the Powder. In the beginning, addicts start losing their memory. They forget their family, then themselves.

They become malnourished from forgetting to eat. In the end, only the drug is left, and they die. With them, I think they were only forced a few doses, but they were too big. Maybe they were in a hurry," said Inta.

"It's my fault. They were scared and wanted to remove the whole operation at once, and I did it to them," said Entoma, blaming herself.

"You can't know that, Entoma. They could have been planning this already," replied Kyouhukou.

"YOU CANNOT GUARANTEE IT'S NOT MY FAULT!" shouted Entoma.

"S-sister..." one of the twins murmured.

"What did she say?" Entoma was surprised.

Inta approached, and his eyes shone in red.

"Amazing. There's something here. It's faint, a memory, old and blurry, but now there's a new memory attached to it, alive, of your voice. Thanks. This is a good sign."

"What do you mean, Inta?" asked Pestonya.

"Their minds aren't dead, only asleep. Their memories, what made them who they are, have been destroyed. But with help, maybe they can recover, form new memories, have a normal life," replied Inta.

"Pestonya, could they get help at the orphanages in E-Rantel?" asked Kyouhukou.

"Unfortunately, we have no experience in treating mental illnesses, miss," replied Pestonya.

"I do," declared Inta without hesitation.

"Why you, Inta?" asked Entoma.

"I'm the most suitable for this. Hypnosis can help. I've done something similar before. Did you know I had a daughter?" asked Inta.

Entoma shook her head negatively.

"No, you didn't tell me. Can you imagine how she died?"

'Stake, silver blade, adventurers' - thought Entoma. "No, I don't know, Inta."

"In old age, peacefully in her bed, six hundred and thirty years ago, she was 87, twenty-two years after her mother's death."

"She wasn't a vampire!"

"No, she wasn't, nor was her mother. You see, vampirism is a curse, but it spreads like a disease, some diseases don't pass to the children. I lived a peaceful life with them, but in the end, she could hardly recognize me, hypnosis helped, but I didn't know much about it at the time. After that, I swore never to see one of my children die like that again, I was present in the lives of my grandchildren, but the great-grandchildren drifted away, or it was me, I lost contact with them, I think they died during the rise of the Eight Kings, I can't be sure."

"I'm very sorry for your loss, Inta, you don't have to take on this responsibility."

"I don't have to, but I can, they have no one else, I'm the best help they'll have."

Knock Knock

"It must be Gunter with the food." Inta went to the door with Entoma close behind, but not showing herself to the Day Manager.

"Ah! Thank you, sorry Gunter for bothering you so late, or is it early?"

"I'm at your service, Mr. Barintacha."

"I still need to know where your former employee spent his nights "- said Entoma out of sight, thinking about how she had not yet completed her mission.

"I think that will be difficult" - Gunter replied suddenly . "I-I'm sorry, Mr. Barintacha, it was not my intention to listen to you! - the manager straightened up."

"Don't worry, Gunter, what's wrong?"

"I believe the young lady must be talking about Mr. Yamashiro, he was the only employee to leave in the last few years."

"Yes, it's him, the address he gave was false, we need to know where he spent his nights."

"Well, sir, he slept here. You authorized it."

"What?"

"He gave that address only if someone were to look for him, he had certain fears, but he said he had nowhere to stay, so I asked you if one of the employees could use the spare room to sleep here. He would leave work, be absent for a few hours, I think he went to a tavern and then came back to sleep."

"I thought it was Miko."

"Miko stayed in the room too after he recovered and came back when Mr. Yamashiro left."

"Now I see how vampires can have bad memories" - the maid joked.

"Vampire?! Who?!"

"No one, Gunter. You haven't heard anything about vampires," Inta said with red eyes and a hand gesture.

"Yes, sir... I think I'll go back to the gate. Excuse me, Mr. Barintacha, Miss Entoma."

"Goodnight, Gunter," Entoma said shyly.

"He didn't know?!"

"No."

"I'm sorry."

"I don't think it's time for him to know yet. Tomorrow we'll check the room."

The next day, nothing was found in the room, nor in the nearby taverns, nor in the following weeks. The search was extensive, but nothing was discovered.

Then the day came when everyone was called back to Nazarick.

"I guess this is goodbye," Entoma said from the window of her white carriage.

"You can come visit me. We're just one of those incredible portals that you use away."

"Whenever I can! This won't be the end of the Black Spider."

"I always preferred Spider-Girl, but didn't you hear? It seems like there's a new adventurer, a bat-man beast."

"A bat-man? Who would believe that?!" Entoma replied mockingly.

"Right?! I think they feel safer imagining a beast-man than a hero vampire. Pure prejudice, hehehe!"

"Speaking of which, Mr. Barintacha," Kyouhukou said, "remember that my relatives volunteered to stay. They're following the orders of His Majesty the Sorcerer King. I hope you treat them well."

"I certainly will, Mr. Kyouhukou. They will be a great help. Now I owe you two favors."

"And how's your new night manager doing?"

"Mrs. Crista seems to be adapting well, and she really knows how to handle Black Dust victims. She's helping a lot with the girls, but they'll miss you a lot. They keep calling her the big sister."

"It seems like you already have all the help you need," Entoma mentioned with a tone of displeasure.

"Well, you know Miss Crista isn't my type.

Then Entoma grabbed Inta and pulled him into the carriage, took off her mask, and gave the vampire a long kiss, which he returned.

"Goodbye Barintacha Hierophants, see you soon!"

"Goodbye Miss Entoma Vasilissa Zeta!"

As the carriage began to move, Entoma threw a small object towards the vampire.

"Here, catch!"

Inta caught the thrown package and then opened it as the carriage moved away. Inside was a book.

"42 Days In Arwintar: A Travel Guide For Heteromorphs And Humans", "Wow, I'll need to ask her to sign it!" joked the vampire, smiling.

In the following months, Entoma returned regularly to Arwintar and even though her appearances as the Spider-Girl decreased, her popularity did not. Since the hero Bat-man was seen with her several times, it was believed that even if only he was seen, the Spider-Girl was likely to be nearby.

Kyouhukou's relatives remained in Arwintar for several generations, keeping watch and assisting Inta, which in human terms represented only a few years until continuous surveillance of the entire city was terminated.

With the help of Crista and Inta's hypnotherapy, the twins showed rapid improvement, but it was during Entoma's visits that these advances became most visible. Something in her voice stimulated the girls, who always called her their older sister. They never remembered their past and at a certain point began training to be part of Nazarick in a specialized human force.

The book "42 Days in Arwintar" was a great success, inspiring a second edition, this time focused solely on gastronomy, but it was necessary to separate it into editions for humans and another for heteromorphs, after all, some of the recommended restaurants had human volunteers who came mainly from the arenas and were paid in advance to be on the menu.

Entoma, Inta, and the girls are still together and happy.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Hi, I'm Mr. Bones, I think I need to explain and clarify some doubts that may remain.

About the children: Yes, the rescued girls are Archer's sisters, I never liked the end they took in LN, mainly because they were chosen by vote, so in this version they were only presumed dead, they lost their memory but found their sister again , if only in the voice that Entoma still uses.

About Inta that was borrowed from another fanfic, thanks AtheistBasementDragon, I changed its origin a bit, it will make sense at the end of this fanfic, as well as other things, bear with me please.

About the traveler, did you notice that he is the "MacGuffin", the object that makes these little tales develop, yes, he will appear at the end, I will try to make him an interesting and important character for future stories of mine, I hope you enjoy until the end because there is still a lot to do.
