"We all know what's going to happen. Clockwork confirmed it. Black Hat is going to cause a disaster of universal proportions. And Etheria is the heart of it. All we can hope for is that we're prepared for the day it's meant to begin" - Jimmy Neutron

The skies were crowded by large top hat-shaped cruisers showering the streets with missiles. Several toons caught in the surprise bombardment were barely shielded by members of the Toon Force. Veterans such as Danny Phantom and his team protected the citizens with ecto bubbles, while Jimmy Neutron and the Warriors for Hire provided ammo and weapons for counterfire. The action was incredible. But as the Hat Bots began to descend from the clouds to meet the heroes head-on, arial fire mowed them to pieces. From the rooftops, a masked, costumed bat activated Danny's power, combined with Jenny/XJ-9's flight to zoom through the hordes of machines while blasting those that came after him. Two drones almost toppled him from both sides when he went intangible, collapsing the pair onto each other before summoning an orbital strike to vaporize them. He narrowly avoided another shot from behind him when he turned and exploded the bot's head with a finger bang.

"This is NOT how I expected to spend my Friday off," Max yelled while shooting.

Seeing his aid, Jimmy said, "Max, Sheriff Mao Mao's still at base. We need you and Adorabat to make sure he's safe. Timmy, Danny, and I will keep to the streets."

"On it, Jimmy!"

As fast as he arrived, the bat flew back to base at the edge of town. The large facility was swamped with gunfire, barely keeping its shields together while fighter jets began to deploy out the back. Two of its most enormous payloads were the Symbionic Titan and XJ-8, delivering massive explosive blows to Black Hat's incredible fleet.

On deck, Sheriff Mao Mao, the current commander of the Toon Force, fended a small assortment of Sentinel bots on his own, keeping close to the briefing room balcony. While deflecting blaster fire, he saw from the corner of his eye that the warships overhead were beginning to eject several towers to the surface, each equipped with heavy laser cannons that rapid-fire across town, destroying landmarks such as the Townsville Office and the statue of Shaman Tak.

"Siege cannons," Mao Mao barked in disbelief. "Black Hat isn't holding back anything this time…!"

Hilariously, his friend Badgerclops said over the radio, "I don't think there's ever been a point where he wasn't."

"Take point at the entrance with Bob and Bobert. I'll handle the old man."

Badgerclops chuckled, "Says the old man."

"I'm middle-aged! There's a difference!"

The more troops arrived, the further Mao backed into the station. He closed the emergency steel gates, but multiple sentinels followed him in, forcing him to get behind cover from their machine guns. Now pinned between a flip-turned table and collapsed chairs, he reached into his pocket and lobbed a grenade. Each robot exploded into scrap metal, flying across the room when the commander's ear twitched, overhearing a soft voice from the end of the chamber.

"Sheriff?"

Standing behind him was Kitra, a clone of a cat-like supervillain raised in the Toonverse and trained as one of the best of the Toon Force.

Wagging her tail, she asked Mao Mao, "What're you doing fighting alone?"

"Waiting for Black Hat to arrive," said the cat. "I know he wants a rematch."

"Probably. But it sure is reckless by his standards."

Mao Mao nodded his head. "That's true. Something tells me it's a lot more complicated than that. While Bob and Badgerclops defend the entrance, I want you to keep Black Hat's men from entering this room."

"Already gotcha covered."

Pressing a button on her watch, Kitra summons the ball robot, Emily, who comes crashing through a wall and rolls into the other machines. She stood with her sharp talons and deployed her twin barrel cannons, melting holes through the hordes of robots pouring in.

With her grapple gun, Kitra swung from the ceiling and kicked straight through one of the droids while Emily rolled toward her for cover fire at a 360-degree angle. Just then, Max crashed in through the sky roof. He rolled onto his feet towards the pair and immediately began shooting their ops with great precision.

Max said, "I'm here guys. What did I miss?"

Just as he spoke, Emily swiveled to fire over the bat, melting the two robots approaching him while he turned his back.

Surprised, Max asked Kitra, "I'm sorry. Did Emily transform into a walking tank?!"

Saying less, Kitra grinned and told him, "Yep."

As Mao regained his footing in the main room, he felt a sudden shake of his surroundings from the vibrations overhead. Perhaps the largest, most armored ship outside projected a red light beaming its commander down in front of the cat. Looking worse for wear, having tubes and misshapen parts holding his barely completed form together, was Black Hat.

Mao Mao muttered, "Black Hat…"

Scowling, Black Hat acknowledged the sheriff, "…Mao Mao…"

"I think I'll let you kids have fun," Kitra snarked as she returned to the entrance.

"Are you gonna need me, commander," Max asked Mao Mao.

"Not yet," said the feline. He put his guard up with his sword and snarled at Black Hat, saying, "I've been waiting a long time for this."

"So have I," said the supervillain. "And once I'm through with you, not even the batboy can stop me from reuniting with Catra."

Confused, Kitra raised an eyebrow but proceeded back to the surrounding corridors. It wouldn't be the first, and indeed not the last the evildoer referred to an old foe of the Toonverse. A duplicate of a supervillain from another universe brought over after a heavy distortion in reality between her world and the old cartoon multiverse. The same evil that gave birth to her, at least as far as she knows. Black Hat was always interested in Kitra, but the Toon Force, especially Entrapta and Max, were always there to stop him. But even that didn't come close to the villain's sheer hatred of Mao Mao, dating decades back to Kitra's birthday.

Pulling his sword again, the sheriff stared at Black Hat and held the blade close to his person. The would-be tyrant struck first, lasering the floor, then using a sword of his own from under his trench coat to slash at the cat. Mao easily avoided both moves and sliced into one of Black Hat's tubes, slowing him down but not enough to stop him from fighting back. Mao was beamed by another heat blast, barely holding it back with his sword when he redirected it up the ceiling, etching scorch marks along the concrete.

Now jumping backward atop the roundtable, Mao countered more of Black Hat's slashes, keeping his defensive stance as he spoke.

"Doing awfully well in your condition."

"Only because I am this close to succeeding where others have failed," said the evildoer.

Jumping back before the desk could be severed, Mao Mao argued, "You're already the greatest threat to the Toonverse, Black Hat. There's no need to prove it again!"

At that moment, Black Hat's arm burst open, spreading dark tendrils across the floor that grabbed Mao Mao by the arms and legs as he struggled to resist! The supervillain slithered closer to him and said, "Oh, sheriff…it isn't just the Toonverse. It isn't just Disney or the Gameverse. I intend to be the greatest threat to all there is! And it starts with you!"

Max saw his commander in distress and readied his Gumball capsule for combat. But Black Hat, having heard the young man, spread his tentacles further and shrouded the door as the room began to be enveloped in darkness.

Black Hat remarked, "To think we would cross paths in the same space decades later. And don't worry. That raccoon and bat friend of yours will be with you soon!"

Why wait?!

With a sharp-sounding sling across his body, Black Hat's torso fell to the floor and dropped the sheriff back on his feet. Mao Mao looked behind him and found his tall, fellow blue pupil, Adorabat, standing back up after a lightning-fast flight from the upper window. She wiped the black blood from her long wings and said, "Sorry I'm late. Birthday party."

"Better late than never, Adorabat" Mao Mao replied.

Quickly, Black Hat's body reattached itself and sprouted its tendrils at the duo. While severing the tentacles with smooth movements from her wings, Adorabat's cybernetic right leg transformed into a machine turret, spraying the supervillain with a rapid hail of gunfire as she ascended. The panels along the blade of his sword spread out to form a shield, barely protecting Black Hat from the bat's onslaught.

He growled and commanded his ships, "Aargh! Shoot that annoying creature out of the sky!"

All the guns beneath the Starship overhead began to fire at Adorabat, nearly hitting the building. She soars from the sunroof to strafe along the vessel's sides, leading some turrets to shoot themselves to pieces. One of the heavy guns even resorted to homing missiles that the hero easily rolled over. But with them following her, she took to strafing again in a zig-zag pattern, blowing up some of the guns but leaving two rockets.

"These missiles are on my non-existent tail," she yelled.

Over the radio, Max suggested, "Try spinning. That's a good trick."

Seeing no other option, she did so. To her luck, both missiles rotated with her before crashing into each other, detonating before they could reach.

Smiling, Adorabat remarked, "Huh... It is."

Slowing down, she performed a steady flip followed by a speedy dive down to the streets, where some of the Watterson clones are cornered by more robots. This time, older Syndicate models from long before the Toon Wars. Adorabat's titanic stomp shook the ground hard enough for all the droids to shatter, their parts flying all over the block.

"I don't remember Hat bots like that," Adorabat wondered. "BH must be running low on manpower if they break that easily."

One of the Nicole clones sporting her goggles and armor, Pana, explained, "Those were built by Professor Calamitous way before the war. Guessing Black Hat got them from the drive yards and kept them in reserve for today."

MORTAR SHELLS! INCOMING!

Everyone scrambles, seeing the distant towers launching shells straight at them. But just before one could get close, a ghost portal opened, and the legendary Cattus the Ultimate leaped through, cutting through the rocket on the way down to the road. He spun his trusty Whirlwind Magisword, waiting for the rest of his team to fall in behind him.

The men cheered his name as Vambre Warrior, Prohyas Warrior, Witchy Simone, Nyando, and Familiar touched the surface where their leader awaited. In Simone's hands was the Combiner Magisword and a small dragon-like member of the Crystal Gems, a version of Steven Universe from another future.

"Combine into Centurion," Cattus announced. "Destroy the towers!"

He put his blade back in his holster as he and the gang converged with one another, transforming the Combiner sword into a towering fusion. The mini Steven then glows and upscales into enormous proportions larger than the Combiner beside him. Being careful not to damage any occupied buildings or step on any allies, they charged through the least crowded streets and began tearing through the masses of old war bots and tossing rockets back at the Mortars. Monster Steven eventually got close to one, ripping it in half with his bare hands and stomping on the invaders below.

Back at the base, things get more intense as the reserve droids pour inside. Max phases his hand into one of them and shoots its head off while Kitra sits atop Emily to aim while swiveling. She dismounted next to the bat, both backing up when they suddenly turned and bumped into each other's faces. Max's mask nearly popped off his face, and Kitra blushed while turning her away, trying to hide her embarrassment.

For Mao Mao, things got even more heated. Black Hat saw his command ship attempting to pull away from Centurion, who hopped aboard and cut through its engines. But while it collapses, he orders hail fire on the building he stands in, spraying lasers into the now dismantled meeting room. Focused and calm, Mao Mao flipped, spun, and weaved over each shot on his way to strike at the evildoer who shielded himself with his sword.

"This city will be dust when I'm through with you, Mao Mao," Black Hat shouted as he pushed.

"Then we'll rebuild once we're finished incinerating you," said the cat.

They continued to slash away at each other. Both tried every possible angle, from the legs to the back to the neck and arms. But each blow was avoided. That was until the last turret beam from the falling ship burned between them. Seeing the opportunity, Black Hat lunged as soon as the laser depleted, stabbing an unassuming Mao Mao straight through the skull!

"FINALLY," Black Hat shouted in triumph! "A satisfying victory!"

Just then, the sheriff burst into leaves, and from the far side of the room stood the raccoon, Tanya Keys, wiggling her fingers at the supervillain.

"WHAT...?!"

SHEEEEINK!

Mao's golden blade ran through Black Hat's back as the sheriff told him, "You're just a passing fad, Black Hat! You're old news!"

He pulled his sword out, and the once supreme Black Hat fell to his knees, bleeding out heavily but still returning to his feet when he growled and tried to lunge once more at the cat. But before he could make a sprint, a gigantic pink fist came crashing onto him from above, and a loud explosion ensued underneath! When the smoke cleared, the monster Steven lifted his hand from the rubble, only to find Black Hat's mangled limbs trying to reconstitute themselves. One more punch and the evildoer was crushed again, and again...and once more until he finally began to fade to ashes.

Tanya embraced her husband while Max and Kitra ran over to see the wreckage. The scanners on Max's helmet sensing Black Hat confirmed zero life signs from him, and the bat commented, "...Well that was easy."

Kitra nodded, "Yeah, it...only took about 10 minutes."

"Are we sure Black Hat's gone this time," Tanya asked.

"He is," said Max. "At least this clone body is. It's last one."

"Which means he'll have his old body to rely on," Mao added. "And it's still in custody."

Sherriff Mao Mao!

Mao's comm on his wrist pings a message from Danny Phantom, to which he answers with, "Go ahead, Mr. Phantom."

"Is Black Hat still a problem," Danny asked.

"No sir. He's uh…no longer with us."

"Good. One less thing to worry about." Before he spoke further, Danny let out a relieving sigh and continued.

"We've reached a decision. We're headed to the Ghost Zone Prison to destroy the original body before he can move back into it. Nooooot really ethical, but it's gotta be done."

"I understand. Will you need me?"

"Nah, we got it. You just start assessing the damages till we get back."

"Understood!"

Mao hangs up and faces the rest of the team, raising his sword to announce, "WE'RE FINISHED HERE!"

They all let out a huge cheer, followed by the kaiju Gem roaring in triumph and the Toon Force among the city blocks, having dismantled all of Black Hat's fleet at the same time as his death. While jumping for joy, Kitra and Max instinctively hugged Adorabat, whose large wings folded around and nearly lifted them off the ground. Tanya, on the other hand, celebrated with a kiss from Mao Mao.

The battle was won...

TOON WARS LEGACY

HEROES OF POWER

But the war wasn't over.

Soon, the city underwent immediate repairs, spearheaded by Badgerclops and one of the bulkier Nicole clones directing the process. Among them was Entrapta, who handed out tools to each worker from the shoot in her garage at base. As familiar visitors like Lop, Hali, and Bobert left out the exit, Kitra returned with Emily from the turbo lift, walking over to her bean chair and immediately planting herself face-first into it while the robot went into sleep mode.

Seeing her stepdaughter, Entrapta smiled and asked, "Nothing you couldn't handle, right?"

"It was cake," Kitra said as she rolled over. "But, I'm still trying to figure out why that creep Black Hat wants me so bad. I know I look like Catra, but she was a completely different person. He even called me by her name."

Careful not to mince words, Entrapta nearly grit her teeth while turned away from her, replying, "Yeeaah. That's what Adora would call obsessive. You know how he is."

"Think I'll get to meet Adora soon if Max's predictions come true?"

"Oh, definitely," Entrapta grinned as she reached for a drink from the minifridge with her ponytail. "In fact, I'll bet she'll be really happy to see you! She needs a Kitra in her life."

"I just hope no one confuses me for the other one. It'll be a headache trying to explain what Canon means, or that some super portal is gonna open in the next 2 seasons or something."

"Don't forget about looping."

"That especially."

Handing Kitra a soda, Entrapta sat next to her, laying back and wrapping her apposable hair around her. They both let out a calm sigh, kicked back, and silently relaxed.

After a long bit of awkward silence, Kitra said, "I feel like I keep asking this… Why would you think to get along with someone like you-know-what? I mean…yeah. You did get back at her, but…still."

"Problem-solving," said the engineer, patting the cat's back. "It's like trying to figure out what makes something tick, starting with listening to 'em. Some people're harder to get through like her. Trust me. Hordak liked to act big and strong, but I knew from day-one that he was a sweet cinnamon roll deep down."

Kitra cocked a smirk. "I can't help but think that's putting it lightly."

"Point is, there's folks like Catra who sound mean cause they're just going through things. And it takes a good listener to understand 'em. It's an uphill battle and takes a lotta trial an' error. But eventually, they'll get better. Sometimes, they just need a little help to guide 'em down the right path."

Entrapta paused and smirked, tilting her head over to Kitra. "Kiiinda like a certain someone I know."

"But if you already said that about Hordak, then…?"

KITRA!

The garage monitor pulled up a call from Max, along with a live feed with him recording from his wrist, walking in a speedy pace.

Kitra sat up and asked, "What's up, Max?"

"Black Hat's been reported missing!"

"WHAT," both Entrapta and Kitra screamed in disbelief!

Unphased, Max continued, "Bob just told me. Someone else from prison broke out with him. No one knows where they went. He can't be back at his place since Vilgax took over."

Stroking her chin, Kitra began wiggling her ears as she thought aloud, "And no one likes to stay far from home. Except for his attempted Toonverse takeover, there hasn't been a day where he's been hiding anywhere other than his cartoon. And that time, he wasn't exactly hiding either."

"I already fried the last island he's been on," said the bat.

"Like you said, Vilgax has control of another," Kitra nodded. "Except…"

"The mansion," Entrapta exclaimed!

Emily, back from sleep mode, pulled a projection from her lens, displaying the original Black Hat Organization headquarters with two comparing photos: One in its prime, and the other in its currently abandoned state.

Entrapta continued to explain as she walked to the hologram. "No one's used it since the first time we kicked his butt!"

"That would even explain where his last body came from," Max said as his ears flickered.

"That's not good," Kitra replied. "That means he's been right under our noses the whole time. The last anyone's been there, he had an underground dry dock for a dreadnought!"

"And none of us thought to look at the most obvious place he could be staying in…"

"Did it look like he just escaped before Danny and the others went in?"

"Yeah. And I already set the coordinates to get to his planet."

Another display on the screen gave Entrapta an exact address, with the simple cartoon name, "Villainous," typed above.

"With any luck, the guy's still out there."

The neko winked back. "We'll meet'cha."

Already preparing the warp gate at the far side of the lab, Entrapta gave a thumbs up and said, "Ready for launch!"
