Chapter 2

Percy walked around camp in a daze. Gossip in the mythological world spread fast and when Annabeth didn't show up to camp and Percy wouldn't say why the nature spirits of camp contacted their cousins on Olympus to find out what happened. Soon the whole camp knew that Annabeth had dumped the Hero of Olympus for some other guy.

Everywhere he went campers, nature spirits, and satyrs all looked at him with looks of pity. Those that had been going to camp with Percy for years kept asking him if he was ok. The new campers began to steer clear of the moody son of Poseidon. The only person Percy could stand at this point, oddly enough, was Clarisse. She never asked him if he was ok. She never tried to get him to talk. If he ever got too moody Clarisse would simply drag him by his ear to the arena and they would spar for hours.

In fact, Clarisse and Chris began slowly taking over as Camp leaders from Percy. They began to show the new campers around when Percy didn't feel like it. Clarisse took over teaching sword fighting. Chris mediates disputes between cabins. Slowly those two took over Percy and Annabeth's old roles of leading the campers.

Percy spent most of his days training, flying on Blackjack, playing with Ms. O'Leary, or laying on the beach for hours on end. He just didn't know what to do anymore. His vision for the future was destroyed. All the plans of him and Annabeth being together, settling down, maybe even starting a family somewhere down the line were gone. He had given up godhood and immortality for her and she drops him like a piece of garbage. As Percy laid on the beach watching the sunset over the ocean, he couldn't help but feel lost. He didn't belong at camp half-blood anymore. It was just to painful being here. All his friends had their own things or purpose; Thalia was leading the hunt, Tyson was working in his fathers' forges under the sea, Grover was busy as lord of the wild, and Nico was working with his father in the Underworld. Percy had nothing, no purpose, no future as far as he could see.

I won't find anything if I keep staying here, he thought to himself.

With the spark of a new resolve Percy had not felt since Annabeth broke his heart Percy went back to his cabin. He packed up all his belongings and scribbled a note for Chiron so he wouldn't worry. He went to the arena where Ms. O'Leary was taking apart a poor, defenseless dummy. The hellhound bonded over to him as soon as she saw him.

"Hey girl," he greeted her, "Listen, I am leaving camp and I need you to stay here and be good." Ms. O'Leary started to whine. "I'm sorry girl. But I want you to stay here and protect the camp. I promise to call you if I need you."

Ms. O'Leary still didn't look happy, but she gave him one last lick before letting him leave the arena. As Percy began to head towards camp's entrance, he wondered how he was going to travel back to New York. He was interrupted by a voice behind him, "Where you headed Boss?"

Percy turned around to face his loyal Pegasus, "Blackjack, I'm leaving."

"Ok then Boss where are we going?" Blackjack replied.

Percy huffed, "Not we Blackjack, me. I'm leaving by myself."

"That's funny Boss so where are we going."

"Blackjack-"

"Look Boss," the Pegasus said being serious, "I know you've had it rough since that traitor-girl left you. I know you probably want to be alone, but you shouldn't go without back up. You rescued and took care of me all those years ago, now it's my turn to do the same for you."

Percy found himself not able to argue with that logic, and truth be told, he would love to have someone to talk to and be with him wherever he was going.

"Fine Blackjack, you win."

"You're right I win Boss. Now where to first?" He asked as Percy climbed on.

"Let's stop by my mom's apartment first."

"You got it Boss." Blackjack said as he took off into the night sky.

When Percy and Blackjack arrived at his mom and Paul's apartment. He fell into his mom's arms and told her everything that happened. She held him asking what he was going to do.

"I have to go away for a while mom. I don't know where, but I just feel like I need to go."

Sally looked like she was about to cry, but she realized this was something her son needed to do. "Just stay here for a moment," she told him before disappearing into the kitchen.

When she returned Percy and Paul were standing facing each other. Paul had a hand on Percy's shoulder telling him how proud he was and that everything would be alright. They noticed Sally and turned to her.

"Here," she said handing her son a couple of bags. "In one bag I put some extra cash for you to use on your travels. The other has some blue cookies I baked fresh today. I know they're your favorite."

Percy blushed and hugged his mom and Paul telling them he loved them. They made him promise to send a note every once in a while, to let them know he was alive. He exited the apartment building and whistled for Blackjack. When he mounted the Pegasus, Blackjack asked him where they were going.

"Not sure yet," Percy said, "For now, how about we just fly and see where the wind takes us."
