A/N Hi everyone! Here is the chapter for the winner of the March side story poll. Sorry it's a day late, I couldn't get on to FFN yesterday.

In other news, I managed to fall of the fire truck at my work a couple weeks ago and am recovering from a back injury. Fun times. You would think that it would give me more time to write, but really it drains you of the motivation to do it. I am pushing through, but I did waste a few days that I would normally write on. I will trying continuing to push ahead of the schedule on PFTG on pat-re-on. Look up Bored Peasant's Written Works if you want to get early access to updates.

CHAPTER 19 – PRE-WAR MOVES

SURRENDER OR DEATH!

Is this the end of the Citadel? Original alliances threatened in wake of new attack on Mindoir!

That is right. This was the ultimatum that King Vegeta delivered the Salarian Union today when he appeared before the Citadel Council at short notice.

Many in the area might have hoped that the meeting had something to do with the two new aliens that accompanied them. That's right. Not one. TWO new aliens of unknown species. Not much is known about the beings, but we can confirm that the one with long ears is named Beerus and the taller is called Wees. We can also confirm that they are allies of the saiyans.

From the information that has come since King Vegeta's declaration, it appears that the saiyans were hosting the two new aliens on Mindoir. At some point, it became known to them that intruders were attacking their 'nurseries' (places where their infants are cared for). Other intruders set off explosives and other traps in other places in an attempt to distract the saiyans from discovering the intrusion to the saiyan's nurseries.

The aim, the saiyans claim, was to steal saiyan children in an attempt to be able to harvest their DNA so as to create a genophage targeting the saiyans, much like they did the krogan. After Councillor Linron spoke words confessing the plot in the Council Chamber, King Vegeta declared war. However, this time unlike with the batarians, war was declared only against the dalatrasses and the STG for their part in planning and preparing the attack.

Along with the declaration, Councillor Linron was then killed in the Council Chamber for his part in planning the attack on Mindoir and his confession. Prince Trunks was the one who performed the deed.

Ambassador Gohan had this to say in a press statement released shortly after the declaration.

"Our people have already had to live through so much conflict. During King Vegeta's, and my father's life, there have been people from all over the universe that have sought our subjugation and our extinction. Several of them have even gotten close and one destroyed the majority of our people and our previous home world. For those of us that remain, all we wish for is the chance to live free, to grow and do so without the threat of those who would attack us for our natural abilities.

"When we came into contact with the Citadel community, we had hope that once the misunderstanding with the turians had been cleared up. We saw that there was a group of races that were able to unite themselves together despite their differences and live in peace. And while it was decided that joining the Citadel was not in the best interests of our people, we didn't want to be excluded from them completely. That is why we even bothered to have an ambassadorial outpost on the Citadel in the first place. We were cautious from our previous experiences, but hopeful that we would find people with whom we could share peaceful and friendly relations.

"Unfortunately, all we have found was more attempts that threats from the Batarian Hegemony, antagonism from the Turian Hierarchy, and attempts targeting our children, our hope for the future, from the Salarian Union. The Citadel community in a short span of time has repeatedly disappointed us, presenting a sparkling diamond, only for us to discover cheap plastic in its place.

"We will take care of our problem with the dalatrasses and the STG, those whom ordered and executed their attack on our people. After that, we shall have to determine whether or not we will continue to have any sort of ongoing relationship with the Citadel community and in what form that will take."

Concerning words from the saiyan ambassador. But his words were quickly countered by the dalatrasses of the Salarian Union.

"The saiyans may claim to be interested in peaceful coexistence with the Citadel community," Head Dalatrass Linron said in a media statement, "however, from the beginning, they have been antagonistic to the Citadel way of life. Our cultures were too different from each other to be able to understand each other. They refused to accept the guidance that the Citadel can offer to the newer races, especially races that have been devastated by their own culture. We have the experience and the wisdom to assist, and our offers have been thrown back in our faces repeatedly.

"As for the attacks on the saiyans, the Union must not be held responsible for the actions of a few renegades. We deny that we are responsible for their actions, however, all must acknowledge the clear threat that the saiyans represent to the Citadel communities!

Their barbarities against the Hegemony are clear and the Council allowed it. They murdered the salarian councillor in the very Council Chambers and the remaining councillors allowed it. Even now, no action has been demanded to demand justice from the saiyans. It shows that when the menace of the saiyans is dealt with by our brave and competent forces, the Salarian Union will demand justice for its abandonment by their so-called longest allies! We will not falter in the face of these threats. We will prevail!"

Strong words from Dalatrass Linron, and clearly a call for resistance against the saiyans. The plans to call for justice for Citadel inaction against the saiyans will also raise alarms to the Citadel community. The long-time alliance has been the centre of our way of life for thousands of years.

In a statement responding to both Ambassador Gohan and Dalatrass Linron, the remaining councillors called for peace. However, they did acknowledge that the late Councillor Linron had confessed to the crime of conspiracy to commit crimes against the saiyans in their presence and not under duress. They even mentioned that the dalatrasses had suborned a salarian Spectre, who has not been named, into their plans. They confirmed that the Spectre who had been acting without Council authority had been confirmed killed during the illegal operation on Mindoir.

They further stated that the Council is not authorising any action in support of the Union. The Council of Matriarchs and the Primarch confirm that they are not intending to send military aid against the saiyans.

After the announcement, there were mixed reactions from the public.

"Those saiyans were able to wipe out a turian fleet, a pirate fleet and bring down the whole batarian Hegemony by themselves," one turian, who wished to remain nameless, commented. "I can understand why the salarians would claim they were dangerous enough to find a counter-measure, but surely they would have been smarter than that."

"The saiyans have freed millions of slaves from the batarians," Hisila, an asari in the Presidium said. "One of them was my sister, who had been captured decades ago. She said that they helped her so much to heal from what she went through. Clearly they are not bad people if they are doing what the Citadel refused to do. Why would they be attacked for that?"

Many other people responded the same way. But the question does remain: where will the alliances that make up the Citadel stand at the end of this action? Will there be changes on the Council? Will the Unions pull away from the Citadel? Too many questions remain unanswered. Make sure you stay will us over the next few days as we cover the ongoing situation.

(Gohan POV)

"So why bother with all this?" Wrex grunted as he took a break between his training. Gohan was happy with his progress. In the last few months, he had managed to climb to over a thousand on the power scale. He had worked hard and he had impressive tactical knowledge, gained from centuries of experience in fighting. When he activated his biotics, it didn't really do much but they were eventually going to experiment with using biotic-boosted ki attacks. Gohan wasn't sure how that would go but he was interested in finding out, for science if nothing else.

Gohan looked at his apprentice. "Bother with what?" he asked.

The krogan waved his hands around in a general circle. "This," he said. "Fighting the salarians. You could just get your dragon to tell you where everyone is that planned against you and get it to kill them all for you. Easy and clean."

Gohan understood what he was saying. "Let me ask you something," he replied. "Once you get strong enough to be unleashed on the other krogan clans and have beaten your enemies into the dust, are you planning on sitting it out until the end of time?"

There was a long pause as Wrex just pondered the question.

"What about when someone goes after your family?" Gohan continued once an answer was not going to be forthcoming. "Would you let them come? Let their actions go unanswered? Or would you take care of the ones that made the attempt?"

"There's no way in hell I ain't killing anyone that attacks my family," Wrex growled. "Especially kids, when I get some." He glowered for a moment. "But my question was more about why are you doing it yourselves? Is it just the personal satisfaction?"

Gohan shook his head. "No," he denied. "While being satisfied at doing it ourselves is a bonus, that isn't why we are doing it this way instead of the easy way."

He floated over to a boulder and took a seat, crossing his legs under him. "The main reason is to stop us getting lazy."

Wrex blinked. "What do you mean?"

Gohan gave a huff of amusement. "When you have the power to destroy entire galaxies, teleport nearly anywhere in the Universe in moments and the only people that are capable of standing up to you are your own allies, it is easy to get complacent. To take enemies for granted."

He frowned as he thought back to the past. In particular, he remembered how cocky Goten and Trunks had been when they fused into Gotenks. Buu had almost been their end from that.

He shook the memories from his mind. "Being complacent is a good way to die against an enemy that has no business being able to take you down," he continued. "Surely you've seen it? How someone who should have won a fight lost because they didn't take it seriously, or they celebrated too early?"

Wrex grunted. "Yeah," he confessed. "Seen that plenty of times." He ran an idle hand over the scars on his face. "Almost been there too."

Gohan nodded. "Having the dragon tell us where to go would work, but it would also stop us looking into the salarians and keeping our investigation skills sharp. And salarians are known to be tricky people. Who is to say that they couldn't come up with a way that hurt us if we aren't prepared?"

Wrex grunted again but didn't say anything.

"Finally," Gohan said, "it also is a useful training exercise to help newer or less powerful or experienced saiyans being able to learn how to conduct this type of war. The batarians were easy and we were not being careful because we didn't have to be. The salarians, we are only targeting a small group of people, who also happen to be very intelligent and very well connected. It will likely take a long time, unless someone tells us where they go to ground."

He stood up. "And speaking of training," he said, gesturing for his minion to stand, "it's time to get back into your own. You've done well in the last month. Keep going at this rate and I will probably let you loose on Tuchanka in a few more."

Wrex grinned and leapt to his feet, floating slightly as he used his ki to push himself further in the air. Gohan grinned.

Time to beat up his krogan. Train. Train his krogan.

Same thing, really.

A beep from his omnitool broke him out of his training thoughts. He looked down at it with a blink of annoyance, seeing as he had instructed his secretary to hold all of his calls unless it was something related to the war.

Still, knowing that his secretary was very good at her job, he answered the call.

"This is Gohan," he said, waving at Wrex to get back to training.

"Ambassador," his secretary's voice greeted him, sounding tense. "If you have a minute, there are several salarians that wish to discuss their surrender to you."

Gohan blinked, then narrowed his eyes suspiciously at the secretary, looking closely for any sign that they might be being controlled or under threat. Nothing was obvious and the secretary wasn't giving any of the agreed upon signals.

"I'll be there in a minute," he replied. "Did you book lunch for me like I asked?" It was an innocuous question, hiding the real question of whether she was in danger. He hadn't eaten Citadel food since the batarians had attacked. While he knew that no one would be able to take him out normally, they were still susceptible to some things like sleeping agents, and he trust the salarians enough to think that they might possibly come up with one that would incapacitate him for even a few minutes.

She shook her head. "Not for today," she replied. "I had to reschedule it for tomorrow because of a meeting with King Vegeta."

Not an immediate danger but not all clear. If she had said that the lunch had been cancelled then that would have meant that everything was all clear.

"That's fine," he said. "I'll check the schedule later and let you know when I want to do it. See you in a minute, I just need to clean up."

He shut down the call and frowned to himself thoughtfully. Vegeta had made the declaration of war against the STG and had told people to turn the STG in. Nothing had been said about the STG turning themselves in.

"You need to go?" Wrex's voice cut into his thoughts.

Gohan looked at his apprentice. "Seems like it," he replied. "Hopefully it won't take too long though. I'll come back as soon as I can. In the meantime, don't wait for me to begin. I want you to increase the weights by an extra ten kilograms and run through your exercises again. Keep going until I return. I'll take a look at you from there."

Wrex grunted and wandered over to the weight bands that he would strap to his wrists and ankles. As a krogan he had a high level of natural strength, but the idea was to get him stronger and faster than any krogan that ever lived. Soon enough he would be teaching the krogan to channel his ki into energy blasts and other common uses for ki.

He couldn't wait to see Sparatus' face when he saw a krogan fly for the first time.

With a small pulse of his own ki, he blew away any sweat and other dirt particles that he had gained from the day. While the training he had done wasn't intense, at least for someone of his power, it was a rather warm day and he was heating up a little. A ki pulse wasn't a replacement for a true shower, but it was a convenient way of cleaning up minor dirt and sweat in a jiffy.

With a thought, he teleported directly into his office on the Citadel. Reaching out with his senses, he could feel the presence of his secretary and five others whom he assumed where the salarians that his secretary had called him for. He knew that they wouldn't be a threat to him, even if they tried to use gas against him, but he wasn't going to be complacent.

He sat down at his desk and hit the intercom. "Send them through," he ordered. A few seconds later the door hissed open and the salarians trudged into his office.

He watched them approach, keeping watch for any slight or hostile movements. They were not wearing any form of armour. In fact, they were all wearing very light clothing, making it easy to tell they were not hiding any weapons on them. Not visible ones anyway. Who knew what modifications a salarian might have made to themselves if it let them have an advantage.

"Ambassador Gohan," the one in the middle spoke up with a nod. "Thank you for your time. My name is Padok Wiks and this is my team. We would like to discuss the terms of our surrender."

Gohan merely raised an eyebrow. This ought to be good.

(Vegeta POV)

Vegeta was busy reading the reports from his Intelligence team. It was a bit of a misnomer really, calling them the Intelligence team. Not because they were idiots or anything like that. It was because not since the planet of Vegeta had been subsumed into Frieza's empire had the saiyan people ever needed an Intelligence team.

Frieza hadn't ever trusted the saiyans enough to let them have one of their own that his people weren't running. Frieza just had his own people running intelligence, and far too many saiyans didn't want to be taken from the battlefield to sit down reading reports and going through scraps of data for the saiyans to bother making one of their own independently.

After the revival of the saiyan race, the people were too busy trying to resettle their lives and it had been decided for them to just rely on the human's hands instead of starting their own from scratch. The saiyan people were too busy trying to process being alive again and building their own society. The namekians were also so friendly naturally that there hadn't been any point organising any Intelligence group to spy on them because their green alien hosts would have just told them anything that they wanted to know.

Now that his own people had their own planet, and having already finished a war that they hadn't been responsible for getting their own intelligence, having mostly used the human's. It was something that Vegeta had wanted to rectify this time around.

Unfortunately, as no one had the proper training, the current 'Intelligence group' mainly consisted of saiyans who hadn't really bothered to train all that hard and were more interested in talking than fighting. They still trained some, but it wasn't their passion and Vegeta wasn't about to force them to keep going with it. There were plenty of strong warriors among the saiyans now, so they would be used to do the actual fighting, while the less-combat-orientated saiyans could serve in other ways.

It was one of the things that he would, begrudgingly, admit that the salarians had a lot more practice and experience in. Saiyans had far more experience in being straightforward fighters, much like the krogans as they relied on their physical abilities rather than massive fleets like the turians would. But asking them to fight a war against a race that was as practiced at subterfuge and mistrust as the salarians without destroying their whole planets was asking the saiyans to act outside their normal abilities and experience. He was going to have to ask the humans to train up their people for the task.

His comm beeped, bringing him out of his thoughts. He looked over and saw Gohan was calling him, making him frown. Gohan was still on the Citadel to receive anyone who turned STG agents over to saiyan jurisdiction, though he didn't expect much there, and to protect their human allies. The humans had good soldiers, but until they started getting more experience at unlocking their ki, he wouldn't feel comfortable leaving an ally to the mercy of the untrained. Well, untrained by his standards.

He activated the comm. "What do you want, Gohan?" he demanded. "I am busy."

"Sure you are, Vegeta," Gohan said dismissively in a way that told Vegeta that Gohan knew that he was merely playing it up. "Look, I have a group of STG agents that asked to surrender themselves into my custody. I thought you might have an input on what to do with them."

Vegeta blinked. "They surrendered themselves, or they are giving us other STG agents that they captured?" he asked for clarification.

"They are STG agents and they are surrendering themselves to the Saiyan Kingdom," Gohan repeated. "They have not said that they are going to give us other STG agents, though they are willing to share some information to prove their intentions to surrender peacefully."

Vegeta crossed his arms and let his frown turn thoughtful. He had only just been thinking about how to improve his intelligence agents, and he suddenly received some experienced agents falling into his lap. It was almost as though he was being a gift from King Kai.

Still, he wasn't alive after a life of constant fighting and training without exercising at least some caution.

"Very well," he replied. "Have them transported to Khar'shan and begin a mind read on them. I want to make sure that they are clean. I won't let someone else threaten our people because we were too trusting."

Gohan took a moment before he responded. "Well, I guess that is as good a way as any to show the wider galaxy that we had the batarian home world remade and are in control of it," he said dryly.

Vegeta grinned. "Maybe if they see that the planet was remade, they will rethink any plans that they might have had in trying to attack us," he grinned. "Maybe they will think us too powerful to defy."

"Possibly," Gohan replied. "Though we both know that there are some people out there that are slow learners."

"Hn, true," Vegeta conceded. "But that is why we must take it upon ourselves to educate the fools. As many times as necessary. And one day, they might get it through their thick heads that we are not to be trifled with."

"Huh," Gohan said, sounding impressed. "I never knew you were such an optimist, Vegeta!"

"Oh shut it," Vegeta growled. "Get to it. I'll have Trunks meet you and he can do the interrogations. You drop them off and head back to the Citadel. Who knows? Maybe you'll be lucky and get more people surrendering at the mere thought of us."

"Maybe," Gohan said, sounding thoughtful. "I doubt it, but I have already been wrong once today. Maybe the stars will align and it will happen twice. Later, Vegeta."

The comm shut off and Vegeta leaned back in his chair to consider this new development. While he had hoped that there were salarians that were more interested in self-preservation than fighting for the dalatrasses, this was unexpected. He knew that there would be people that would do whatever they could to get away from war or to make sure they wouldn't die. Those people usually fled, not turn their coats to fight against their masters.

He knew it was possible, of course. He himself was one of those people who had been turned to fight against his former master, but through vengeance and not fear or from any other motivation. He had teamed up with Goku and their allies to kill Frieza. This didn't seem like either of those.

Still, if current STG agents were voluntarily surrendering, he would be a fool to not try and make use of their talents. With his fledgling Intelligence group needing direction rather desperately, he would use any resource he had available to better his people.

Such was the duty of a King.

Another beep from his terminal, showing a new message had come through. He smirked as he realised it was from his contact, the former councillor. He scanned the message with some satisfaction as he saw a list of targets that would have been part of the attack on his people. While it was possible that there were some people on this list that he was seeking to get rid of for personal gain, Vegeta didn't mind giving him a helping hand for the information that he had given. Though he would need to make it clear that he was not becoming this salarian's attack dog.

He went through the list, which was surprisingly comprehensive. It included a list of known associates, as well as locations of all known hiding places. Despite himself, he couldn't help feeling a little impressed. Maybe he should have asked for the former councillor to give instruction to his Intelligence Corp instead. Or as well.

He shook his head as he looked through the list again, making a mental plan on beginning the attacks. He didn't want to spend any more time than necessary dealing with this headache. He had more important things to deal with.

After all, he was a King.

(Saren POV)

Saren cursed as he stared in frustration at his comm. He had been seeking more mercenaries to assist him as he brought the Terminus to a higher level of alertness in preparation to take the fight to the saiyans.

He had just been reaching out to a batarian pirate named Balak. Apparently he had a reputation of being somewhat intelligent, for the slaving scum that they were. He had even been the one to command the only ship to survive the Slaver Extermination, as it was now being called, on Mindoir when he had exercised proper precaution and ordered his people to retreat when they got weird sensor readings of the saiyan planet.

Saren had hoped that he would be able to stoke the vengeance in the batarian's soul, to motivate him to join the forces that even now were training to find ways to infiltrate the saiyans and give them some justice for those that they had killed without a thought. The batarian had surely lost plenty of friends from that attack. Even if that wouldn't work, then surely the man's patriotism towards the Hegemony should be enough.

Unfortunately, nothing Saren said could convince the batarian to join up with him. Whatever he had seen above the saiyan's world was apparently horrible enough that all of the fire had been stripped from them man. He had chosen to run and hide again, clearly fearing the reprisal that he rightfully believed that Saren would put upon him for refusing to work for him.

He had to regret about threatening a slaver or mercenary to work for him. They were not the most reliable, but even they knew when they were outmatched. All smaller weaklings knew that it was better to work with the monster than have him hunt you and that's exactly what he was to many of these mercenaries: a monster.

But now, the saiyans were bigger monsters to someone who had actually come up against them. If more were to feel the same way, then it would make it so much harder for him to be able to get justice for his brother as they would jump ship, not caring what he would do to them.

"Saren!" one of his minions, an asari who had joined up with one of the smaller mercenary gangs now working for him, called out as the blue alien ran straight up to him. The asari stopped short, taking in big gulping breaths.

"What?" he demanded, not caring if she still hadn't got her breathing under control yet. He wasn't going to wait for the leisure of this pirate scum.

The asari stood upright instantly at his tone. "You need to turn on the news," she gasped as she spoke quickly to get more words out per breath. "The salarians attacked the saiyans and now the saiyans are at war with the STG and the dalatrasses."

"WHAT?" he roared. He immediately activated a terminal and brought up the relevant broadcasts and media statements.

The longer he watched the deeper his scowl got. By the time that the news report ended, his fists were clenched so hard, his gloves were squeaking. His mandibles were alternating between flaring and clenching. Most tellingly of all, he could see whisps of blue at the edge of his peripheral vision as his biotics were flaring unconsciously. All it would need was the tiniest spark to set him off.

"Um, Saren?" a timid voice spoke up when he wanted nothing to do with anyone at all.

He roared and threw out a powerful biotic Push, a bright blue orb lashing out at the asari that had brought him the message.

She shrieked in fear and blocked his attack with a hastily thrown up Barrier, before turning and sprinting out of the room as fast so quickly, it almost seemed like she had used a biotic Charge.

But Saren was already ignoring her as his office became victim to his fury. He lashed out biotically and physically, throwing his desk against a wall and finishing it off with a Warp. He punched the few scant decorative pieces with biotics enhanced fists, only to throw them around with Pushes at the concrete walls. Once everything in reach was destroyed, he bellowed his impotent rage out at the ceiling.

Once his voice gave out, he stood amidst the carnage of what was his office, breathing heavily. So much planning was now wasted because of the actions of the salarians. He had been counting on the successes of the saiyans to make them arrogant and therefore susceptible to being overconfident. Overconfidence made people lazy, which would make it easier to infiltrate Mindoir. Then he would be able to have done more than what those incompetent idiots from the STG had been able to do. Had they been worth anything, they would have become Spectres.

Now the saiyans were going to be on their guard. With the salarians having infiltrated their home world once, it would be a long time before they would be caught off guard with the same trick again. All of his work and plans in getting ready to make a move on the saiyans and having the blame thrown on the mercs and slavers he had collected. Now it was wasted.

He huffed as he finally caught his breath. No. he refused to accept that the work to target them was completely wasted. Slowed down, certainly. But wasted, no. He was not an incompetent fool. He was Saren, the most successful Spectre in decades and on track to be the best agent the Council had at their disposal, the fools and cowards that they were. This was only a setback. It would take time, but he would find another way to get justice for his brother. He was still young. He could wait years if needed.

He grimaced a little. He could wait, but there were hundreds of mercenaries that wouldn't. He wasn't going to bother keeping them all together that long. Having them sitting around doing nothing was going to be a disaster, one that he couldn't be bothered dealing with right now. He would cut the majority of them loose. The ones that he had hated the most could afford to donate their services to… relieve his tension. After all, he had already been in the mood to kill something. He might as well make use of that.

For now, he would start telling the mercenaries they were free to find other work. He wasn't likely to get a chance to go after the saiyans for at least a year; not when they have been in two wars in a very short period of time. The ones that were involved in specific tasks would be allowed to finish, but the main thing was that he, Saren, was going to have to find other allies to take on the saiyans. Not just the scum of the galaxy, but the influential. Leaders. People who mattered and could make things happen. People others followed.

Saren was the best. And the best attracted the best. And he would be damned if he let some pyjacks get the best of him.

(Goku POV)

Goku waited on Mindoir, catching up with Pan while waiting for the others to join him. He was enjoying the time together. While they may be immortal, he didn't see his family as much as he would like. His granddaughter had grown into a strong, smart and caring woman, long before she became a saiyan god. Then she had children and grandchildren, showing her care for them all. Now that even her great grandchildren were grown, she spent a lot of time training the younger generations or helping in the nurseries.

She was still a saiyan though, despite her human heritage. She had the fire of a saiyan warrior and all of their abilities. The only difference was that she wasn't born with a tail; a small mercy on Earth at the time. But now though she was also a tough trainer for them, she was one of the most dedicated defenders of the children.

Which is why she was so furious at the salarians for daring to try kidnapping them.

"I'm gonna kill them all!" she growled, finishing off a rant.

Goku shook his head in amusement. Pan often demonstrated a fire that Gohan didn't really display. While some would say that she took after her mother, Vedel, in terms of temperament, Goku could see plenty of the fire that Chi Chi had when she got riled up.

"Just don't go overboard," he said, already knowing she wouldn't. she wasn't a raging beast, even when angry.

He looked up as he sensed energy signatures arriving. Goten arrived first, followed by Gotel and Vegeta Junior, who arrived together.

"Hey, Dad," Goten called out as they moved closer. "Good to see you. Vegeta said that you needed some extra help?"

That made Gotel and Junior look on in interest, not clearly not having heard the full story. Even Pan's face lost some of its anger as she listening in.

"Maybe," Goku hedged. "You remember Frieza?"

He got some nods from Pan and Goten, though Gotel and Junior shrugged. They hadn't had to worry about Frieza but they had heard the stories.

"It turns out his brother had a grandchild called Sleet that is pretty strong," Goku explained. "And seeing as he was born with extremely high energy levels and has had plenty of time to train and get stronger, King Kai asked me to check it out. I thought it would be good to get some extra help, in case he had some strong people following him."

"So we just show up, scare him into submission, then leave?" Gotel asked, sounding disappointed. The younger saiyan was clearly wanting to test himself against strong enemies.

Goku shrugged. "I don't know," he confessed. "King Kai didn't go into the details so much. He just asked us to check it out and make sure that Sleet isn't trying to conquer the galaxy. If he isn't doing anything, then we can just leave him alone, or maybe watch him for a while to make sure that he isn't lying to us."

"It shouldn't be hard," Junior bragged with a smirk, looking just like his grandfather. "I doubt he is strong enough to go against any of us, let alone Goku."

"Cut it out!" Pan barked, butting into the conversation. "The salarian attack should show you that just because someone is weaker than you, doesn't mean that they can't find a way to take you out. Pull your heads in the game."

Goku nodded seriously. "Pan is right," he concurred. "Me, Vegeta and our friends should have easily beaten Cell when he was weaker, or Doctor Gero and his androids, but we got cocky and all of them had the ability to get stronger by using our power against us."

The arrogant smirk on Junior's face lessened somewhat, but he didn't look too concerned. Goku mentally sighed. The younger generation would need to learn. Maybe he would let them deal with Sleet while he supervised. It would be valuable experience for them.

"Anyway, we should go," he said, dusting himself off. "See you later Pan. Having fun with the salarians."

With a farewell wave, he placed his fingers to his forehead and disappeared the instant the others put hands on him. Time for him to get to work.

A few things happened here and set things up for more to come. If you want to vote for this or any of my other side stories in the monthly poll, or if you just want early access to any of my updates, including the next seven chapters of PFTG which have been posted there, soon to be eight in the next few days, then head to pat-re-on and look for Bored Peasant's Written Works. If not, just enjoy my stories as they come here.

Until next time!
