Prologue

(Ancient times)

For the first time in millennia, night itself chose to visit the mortal realm. Nyx wandered through Ancient Greece one night, her mind consumed by weighty thoughts. She sensed the eventual impending rise of the Titans and knew that if they were to prevail against the Olympians, they would inevitably come for her next.

Few beings can challenge the primordial force of night. Yet, Nyx knew that regardless of the outcome, the return of Gaia would soon follow, promising a potential primordial war—a conflict she had no desire to be involved in.

Lost in thought as she roamed through the forests, Nyx was abruptly jolted from her reverie by the sight of a young boy crashing through the bushes and careening into her legs before tumbling backward several feet.

As the boy looked up, he gasped and attempted to speak, but before he could utter a word, the bushes behind him trembled. Startled, the boy leaped up and hid behind Nyx's legs. Confusion clouded Nyx's expression as she glanced down at the boy, then shifted her gaze upward as a small hellhound burst forth from the bushes.

With narrowed eyes, Nyx swiftly raised her hand, sending the hellhound back to Tartarus with a single wave. When she turned her attention back to the boy, he stared up at her with wide eyes, surprise evident in his expression.

Nyx recognized the telltale signs of a demigod in the boy before her. Although she typically remained uninvolved in the affairs of most gods, the combination of sea-green eyes and black hair was unmistakable—this boy was a son of Poseidon.

"Hello there, young one. What brings you out here?" she inquired kindly. The boy gulped nervously before stammering out, "I-I'm running away from that monster."

Nyx offered him a soft smile and reassurance. "That monster is gone now," she replied gently.

To her surprise, the boy shook his head. "Not just that one, the one at home too. My mom was hurt in an accident, so he was supposed to take care of me, but instead, he threw me out. He threatened that he would kill my mom if I ever came back."

Nyx's expression hardened at his words. Looking up, she locked eyes with the moon before causing the moon's light to dim and brighten a few times, as Percy watched in amazement.

A moment later, the shadows began to stir, coalescing into the form of a man who stepped forward. His body was obscured by the darkness enveloping him, but the gleam of a silver scythe on his back caught the moonlight. With black hair, tan skin, and solid black eyes, he emanated an aura of ominous authority.

"You called, Mother?" the man inquired, his voice tinged with an otherworldly resonance. Nyx nodded solemnly in response.

"Thanatos, find this boy's 'caretaker' and take him straight to the Fields of Punishment," Nyx commanded.

The man, identified as Thanatos, locked eyes with the boy for a fleeting moment before turning back to Nyx. "It shall be done," he affirmed with a nod before fading into the shadows, his presence dissipating into the darkness.

Once Thanatos had vanished into the shadows, Nyx redirected her attention to the boy, who still gazed at her with traces of fear in his eyes. "What is your name, young one?" she inquired softly, crouching down to meet his gaze at eye level.

"P-Perseus...or Percy for short," the boy stammered, his voice trembling slightly. Nyx smiled warmly at him before rising to her full height. With a graceful wave of her hand, she conjured a swirling black portal beside them, causing Percy to jump back in shock.

"Come with me, Percy. Let us go home," Nyx urged gently, extending her hand toward him. Percy hesitated for a moment before gingerly accepting her hand. With Nyx leading the way, they stepped into the portal together, leaving the mortal realm behind.
