"This mission is simple. You drop in, enter in your target building, and find the cargo." The mission leader said, their voice loud over the hum of the plane's engine, "Our hacker will enter first, find and supply the needed information on the layout. We'll meet up at the safe point for pick up. We'll be splitting up in teams of two in order to watch each other's backs."
"Wait, there five of us? One person will be on their own then?" one of the others said.
"Exactly, Firefly will be taking a solo route to the main computer network," The mission leader said.
"How come Shorty, gets to go alone?" Someone else asked.
"Because she's the only hacker we have in this group."
"Also," I interjected, "I'm five foot four inches, that's average height. I'm not short."
"You're not tall either."
An alert suddenly sounded through out the cabin, red lights flashing slowly.
"Alright!" the mission leader said, "That's enough of the fun, time to got to work. You all know your targets. Get out there and give them hell."
I turned to my bag of supplies, pulling out extra knives, a flash drive and an icer. I hid the extra weapons in secret pockets in my boots and jacket, and tucked the flash drive into my left glove. Strapping the curved swords tightly to my back, I was ready. The grinding of gears and metal rang out behind me. I turn around seeing the bay door to the plane opening. I felt the air pressure in the cabin shift, whipping our hair and fluttering our stealth suits.
It was time.
The first part wasn't difficult. Merely a 300-foot drop to the forest floor in pitch black. Not that unusual. The base was large so the pairs jumped out separately in order to be closer to their targets. When my turn came, I was calm. The open bay door, leading out into the inky night below didn't intimidate me. I came to the edge, relaxing as I let gravity take me.
Falling didn't scare me; the wind blasting against my skin was a familiar feeling. I kept myself straight as a long sword, my head diving downward first. I didn't bother to open my eyes; I wouldn't have been able to see anything in this darkness. The wind around told me everything I needed to see. The water droplets in the clouds above, to the black bark skeletons of the trees in the burnt forest below.
I was close now, I needed to do something before I struck the earth like a javelin. I opened my eyes, blasting the ground below me with air, sending me flying back upwards. I flipped to slow myself, landing feet first on the ground before collapsing into a roll. Eventually getting back to my feet and running through the saturated shadows of the woods.
There was no beaten path below my boots. The forest floor being raw, wild, and untamed. It made it harder to be quiet. No one talks about how silent these missions are. Sometimes there the sound of the wind, crickets chirping, maybe even footsteps if you have a partner, but other then that, its just the sound of your own breath. In movies there's a score that plays behind the action, but in realty you're alone. Just you and your mission, no matter the outcome of it.
I skidded to a halt. The base, my target, was right below me. Large grey walls, adored with shimmering strings of bars, and lit with bleached white light. I could feel the breaths of the soldiers marching through out the base from where I stood in the shadows.
The comm-link in my ear began to buzz. I answered it.
"Everyone in position?"
We all replied with an affirmative.
"You know what your supposed to do."
I cut the link, and let the wind blow me over to the base. The strong gust of air moved me at a speedster level rate; I landed on the roof of the communication tower within seconds and completely silently. I waited for the others to purposely trip the alarms, and once the technicians were going to check on the problem, I slipped inside.
Cutting comms to the outside, I dashed deeper into the base. I hugged the wall, keeping my aerokinesis on high alert. I pointed my gaze at the ceiling looking for cameras, and when I found them, I pinned myself behind the nearest corner wall, glaring my eyes at them, melting their lenses. So, far the halls have been empty, and I was thankful for that, but it didn't last.
I felt the heat in the barrel and the disturbance of the bullet in the air, before I heard the shout and bang of a gun firing form behind. My hand grasped the handle of my sword, ripping it from its sheath as I whirled around. The sharp blade struck the bullet, destroying the projectile in a shower of sparks.
They froze gawking at me. A mistake.
I rushed forward, using the wall to my left to leap over their heads, making it difficult to shoot me as I trailed my blade on the stone ceiling igniting it. I landed behind them and before they even had the chance to turn around, I slashed my blade across one of their backs. Cutting through his Kevlar and burning bone and flesh. At the same time my opposite leg kicked out behind me forcing a strong gust towards the other soldier, knocking him into the wall. Finally, my freehand snatched the knife in my boot and flung it as the now scrambling soldier. The small dagger found its home in the man's neck.
This didn't make me shudder, I continued down the next hall looking for my target. Cutting cameras, the physical way, and if I encountered any other…obstacles…I took care of them. Eventually turning a corner, finding the bases mainframe. I could feel the breaths of two individuals inside. I grabbed my icer, and took them out before they could make a fuss.
After I pushed one of the technician's unconscious bodies off of the console, I took my place at the console. The heavy clacking of the keys filled the room, as I took out the firewalls, started downloading the base's files, and scrambling the remaining cameras.
I leaned into my comm-link, "Mainframe secured. Cameras down, footage erased, and the downloading files in progress."
"Confirmed, proceeding to phase two, location of the cargo?"
"Sublevels two floors down. In the east side of the base."
"Confirmed, finish download, then proceed to cargo location."
"Copy."
The download, was nearly complete, when I felt the faint yet rapid breaths of those closing on the door. I needed to act fast. Killing them all, hiding or finding a way to escape those were my only options. I didn't want to bloody my hands anymore then necessary, and there was nothing to hide behind in here, not even an air vent. That left escape, but there was only one door to the room. That was when I looked to the floor.
The guards didn't find me there. Merely a large pool of molten metal and stone.
With a flash drive of newly stolen info safely tucked away in my glove. I rushed through the halls away from the hot melty hole I made. Dropping down into lower levels through the floor would've been easier if I still had my geokineisis, I would've even have been able to cover my tracks, but melting would just have to do.
I arrived to the cells before anyone else. I could see the children inside. Small, shivering, under fed, and scared. I went to the closest cell, melting the lock and ripping to door open. The little girl inside, scurried back into the corner of the cage she was forced into, as I approached.
"Shh, Shh you're okay," I told her, hoping I got the language right, I materialized a flame in my hand, "I'm like you."
She looked at me, with an odd look in there sparkling blue eyes. Wonder fear, or maybe it was hope.
"I'm going to take you home," I said.
"Papa and mama?"
"Yeah, I'll try to find them, and take you to them."
She shivered. I pulled off my jacket, and offered it to her. The girl greedily took it and cuddled into it. I couldn't help but see myself in that. I had done the same when my mother gave me her jacket. When she rescued me.
"Come on kiddo we got to go," I took her hand and led her out the cell.
I saw the others come around the bend.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
I was on the floor. Why was I on the floor? I had to get up. I could hear the footstep, the shots being fired, the screams. The terrified screams. I tried to pick up my head, and I saw red. Red? Why was my shirt red?
A/N:
So, this isn't Bucky Action, but its action?
Well have a good night! I need to go to bed as I have something early tomorrow morning!
G'bye!
