Jazz/Loki gettin' married!
Tanner: It's safer not to ask.
Gelli: *Whispering* We don't know either.
Both: (We haven't seen Loki yet. Otherwise we'd probably have a different ship.)
Tanner: No we wouldn't
Gelli: Yeah
Tanner: We've come too far to back out now
Gelli: Ahoy muther fuckers. (I spelt that wrong on purpose for the accent.)
Arsinry stood with her uncle Thor in her (today) father's groom's party. Or something. Arsinry still wasn't entirely sure what the Midgardian traditions were for weddings.
"Do you think this is alright?" Loki asked. "Are you sure this is the correct way to wear this thing? Oh! Arsinry, dear I think your supposed to-"
"It's fine, sibling," Thor said. "Are you alright? You're very sweaty?"
"I'm fine, everything issss, fine!" Loki said, a slight his, and the flickering of a snakes tongue showing that he was not in fact fine and was going to panic shapeshift. Unfortunately Arsinry was going to have to make it worse.
"Who are you even marrying? If they live here are they not like us…I am confused on how Grandfather let this happen," Arsiney said very confused.
"He has no right to interfere with my bussssinesssss," Loki's voice cracked along with his hissing now. Meaning this was a sore subject apparently. Arsinry wondered when that happened.
"Father, he is the king, and you are his child. And don't give me the 'i'm adopted' thing," Arsiney sassed.
"Well, I am, and also it'ssss not like I wassss ever going to become king anywaysssss," Loki said. "It's fine." He said, after a short pause, batting away Uncle Thor's concern and hands. "See I ss- stopped hissing and everything."
"You're doing it again," Arsinry said, messing with their own weapons.
"I stopped! Oh, Byfrost and hellhounds why am I so nervous? It's not even the first time I've been married!"
"You've been married?" Thor asked.
"um..I would think so, I don't believe that I'm a bastard," Arsinry said, a little hurt.
"Certainly not, though I do believe you are the only one among your siblings." Loki said.
"Wait? What?" Thor asked.
"Yes, Arsinry was conceived," he sounded soft and joyful. "Then he ran into a knife. Fifteen times."
"I worry about you, brother/sister/sibling," Thor said. "Also, please don't stab Jazz, I believe she is susceptible to such things."
"I know what my wife is susceptible to," Loki said.
"Again why are you marrying a kind of music?" Arsinry asked.
"No, sweetling, I'm marrying Jasmine, she's a….." he trailed for a moment.
"So are they music or a kind of tea, or a plant. Still very confused," Arsinry said.
"She's a human, darkling," Loki said. "Are you sure I'm wearing this tie thing right."
"You didn't tell your dau-child who you're marrying?" Thor asked.
"Odin's Beard I didn't tell you?!" Loki shouted.
"You told Seffy, Fin,and Jorman. But not me, I found out through them and Thor…are you trying to be a bad parent." Arsinry said.
"Oh, my divinity, what do I do? Thor~?!" Loki said.
"What do you think I can do about it?" Thor asked. " To be fair, Darkling Nibbling, however I believe Boldr and I were the only ones Loki actually told. If that makes anyone feel better."
"I didn't tell anyone!" Loki shouted. "Oh, what do I do? Sweet-tea is expecting me to have invited people. I invited people, right?"
"No, I had to take care of that for you," Thor said. "Jazz bequeathed this task to me when she realized you would not be able."
"So they are tea," came a deep voice as four people walked in. Three men and one woman.
"Oh, thank the gods, but also fuck you!" Loki shouted to the eldest of Odin's children. He was cry glaring as he gripped Hel's pauldrons.
"I am one of your offspring so no" said one of the men. Loki looked at his oldest son with an eye twitch.
"I have never felt more love than I do now." Hel said in a monotone voice.
"Ewe," Loki said. "Thank you for showing up." he stood straightening his shirt and coat. Then went back to fixing his tie. "Thor, are you sure I'm wearing this correctly?"
"How would I be able to know, exactly?"
"You married a human!"
"In an informal ceremony." Thor laughed. "Jazz's fathers would never allow such a thing."
"Would you like me to call the tinman and tell him you, the all mighty god, needs help." a different man said.
"Maybe," Loki whined, literally drooping.
"Oh, you got it bad," Hel said. "Are you going to be alright? How about I fi-make sure your hair stays nice?"
"Is it that bad," Loki whined.
"Y-no, I'm just worried."
"You know I can tell when someone lies right?"
"Oh, I forgot." Hel said. "Come now let big sissy help with that."
"You have had fur, scales, a tail, and reptile-like eyes. Be glad it's just not full shifting." Arsinry said, putting a blue hand on Loki's back.
"I what!" Loki said. Feathers shooting. "Oh, fantastic! I'm molting!"
"There, there, little brother," Hel said. "You're doing wonderfully. I'm sure your tea will be happy with you."
"Are you sure?" Loki said.
"Would it help you if I went to check?" Thor offered. "I do not think a superstition exists that says I can not see the bride otherwise I wouldn't be allowed in here." Loki chuckled.
"Thanksss," Loki hissed.
"Wow, Father you must love this plant if you can't keep your shape," said the third man.
"I do, I'm sorry, I'm such a mess," Loki said. "I don't know how it slipped my mind to tell you about this."
"Father, you didn't tell any of you kids that you love so much." The oldest said.
"You didn't tell anyone?" Hel asked.
"No! It completely slipped my mind! I wanted everything to be perfect and I forgot the most important part. Oh! Devines! Did I even tell her she was becoming a stepparent?!"
"You don't know?"
"No! I thought I invited you! I thought I told my children about finding my soulmate! I thought - well I thought a lot of things that turned out to be true. And now I don't know if my wife even knows I've already had children." He was grumbling childishly.
"You forgot to tell your children?" Hel asked.
"Aunt Hel, we haven't even met the music, let alone known he was dating," Arsinry said, doing well to hide the hurt from their voice, but their brothers saw it in their eyes.
"By Odin farts, Loki," Hel said.
"I know," Loki whined. "I'm sorry about that by the way. I thought I told you. I could have sworn I introduced you?"
"I have never left Asgard before. My brothers have, but not I." Arsinry said.
"How did I miss such an important step!" Loki said. "This is by far the most bizar and disastrous misstep that I have ever taken. I don't even know how I could miss this! Of course you haven't let Asgard. I haven't brought Jazz either. Thor remember this step!"
"It's not as bad as you taking a random wolf from my pack to see Arsinry when they were just born." Fin said, pointing to Loki's nature of forgetting things.
"Argh! That was a perfectly normal fatherly thing to do!" Loki said. "This is not!"
"mother. Not Father, you had just had me." Arsinry said.
"That was incredibly reckless…" Hel said.
"Okay, it was a perfectly normal motherly thing to do," Loki said. Hel was looking more dead inside as she heard this.
"Thor, for the love of all that is good in the universe please get back soon," Hel said. "I never thought I would prefer the peppy one."
"I have returned!"
"Did I tell Jazz she was going to be a stepmother?!"
"Is that a thing you are concerned about?"
"Yessssss," Loki said.
"Okay, Hel, it's your turn,"
"I've unfortunately never met this… Tea?"
"She's a human woman?"
"I know, I was teasing," Hel said. "You're really in a state. I'll see if I can introduce myself and get some information."
"Thank you and sorry," Loki said. Thor sighed.
"Let's get you cleaned up brother," Thor said. "Y- you're a man right now right?"
"I don't know," Loki said, panicking.
"Well, you don't have breasts," one of Arsinry's brother's said. She wasn't sure which since she wasn't used to their human forms.
"That doesn't mean shit and you know," another said.
Kana was behind Jazz fixing her hair, while their mother bustled about the room talking on the phone making sure things for the wedding prep were going well. Apparently they hadn't taken either of her fathers' seriously on the matter enough to actually get anywhere. Vlad was fixing Jack's tie while offering instructions to Maddie when asked. Kana weaving flowers into Jazz's hair that was in a half updo, leaving the rest to fall in a nice light braid to her mid back.
Kana was in an oddly pale color dress that almost clashed with her natural pale skin. The colors that had been chosen did nothing for her, but make her look ill, so this helped. Jazz was the bride, and Kana would do everything to make sure no one looked better than Jazz. Including sending someone through the floor. The Dannies were already out patrolling the wedding area to make sure that nobody was prettier than their sister on her wedding day.
Hel knocked on the door to the bride's room. The group looked to the door. Before Kana headed over.
"Hello, Thor we're still doing fine- Oh, you're new?" Kana said.
"I'm Hel, Loki's eldest sister."
"Oh, I've read about you, probably none of it true but like I've heard of you," Kana said, laughing nervously.
"Your Kana, Xander talks a lot about you,"
"Oh, you met my twin!" Kana said.
"Yes," Hel said, chuckling. "So, I suppose that must mean you are the little sister he talks about. Jazmine, or Jazz as a preference."
"Ye-yeah, nice to meet you," Jazz said. "Sorry, I can't stand up, right now. Wedding jitters." Jazz chuckled nervously.
"It's fine, my brother seemed to have forgotten to tell his lovely children about your courting, engagement, and now wedding, and wanted to know if he ever mentioned them to you? They all seem to think you are Music, or a kind of tea, or even a plant." Hel said in a kind way.
"Oh, dear, I probably should have checked on that, to be fair, though those are all pet names Loki likes to tease me with," Jazz laughed. "I'm sorry that our literal first meeting is like this but… Loki wanted to keep your father out of the loop… for as long as possible, and I guess that ended up leading to his kids somehow missing them. They must be pretty young if he thought they'd tell on him though. From the stories he told me they didn't sound that young, but maybe Asgard has different rules for growth rates?" She chuckled.
"you can't keep anything in his knowledge. Don't tell Loki but the Allfather gives you both his blessings. Arsinry is the youngest at eight hundred years old…you would call it 12-13 years old." Hel said with a smile.
"Oh! Uh, tha-thanks, and that's a relief, the part about your father, I'm not sure how to feel about the age thing. I keep forgetting the difference in our life spans." Jazz sounded uncertain. "The way Loki talked about your father made it sound like…."
"Oh, don't get me wrong, the guy is a disaster of a father. On that note I have just the wedding gift for then," Hel said. "It's where Loki gets it honestly. I mean, though I guess even Loki still comes out looking like a perfect father in comparison, but that's just the way our father was raised."
"If I wasn't about to marry into this family I would love to study a case of generational trauma that spans literal melinia." Hel couldn't tell if Jazz was joking or not. "Well, it was nice meeting you. Uh, is that all you needed to talk about, sorry. I, ugh, don't mean to sound like I don't want to keep talking but… I'm actually worried I might throw up."
"You are looking very beautiful for someone who's about to puke," Hel said.
"Oh! Thanks, I- It's the make up."
"Maybe Loki could use some of that," Hel said. "He's looking a little…. Green." She chuckled. Jazz puffed out a little sound that was probably a laugh.
"Yeah, we can match," Jazz said. Waving her hand toward the make-up case. Hel had heard about Kana and Jazz from Xander many times. But Hel had never put much stock in Xander's claims of his sister's being the most beautiful women in the multiverse. He was a doting brother, and gay. It made sense that in his eyes his sister's would be the epitome of feminine beauty. Hel didn't think Jazz and Kana were the most beautiful women in the multiverse, she'd met Aphrodite and other goddesses that were by virtue of their divinity meant to be the definition of beauty. However, as far as mortals went they were very pretty. Especially on such a special occasion. Hel wasn't sure how human weddings were designed, and whose job it was, she'd heard enough to know that if it was even slightly allowed that their father Vladamire would have taken the role to ensure things were perfect for his little girl. If Hel's guess was correct he'd chosen the coloring to suit his daughters perfectly. Jazzmine was the epitome of a beautiful blushing bride, and Hel had met Hera and other goddesses who were supposed to represent such things. They'd apparently chosen flowers instead of a veil, the cream coloring and green leaves making her red hair almost glow. Her hair is done in a complex braided bun. She really was darling. Her gown was all lacey, and she had a cape. Which was honestly perfect for marrying into their family. Jazz wasn't the only one who'd been made up either. Kana for instance looked like an ivory statue, clothed in frost, clouds, and glacier ice. Hel wondered if it was normal for the bride's older sister to outshine the bride so much. Maybe it was an availability thing.
"Huney, why aren't you ready yet?"
"Oh, I was wearing this," Kana said.
"No, sweety we picked something out for you so you'd match the bride's maids," Vlad said. "You don't want to look unpresentable I know but you also don't want to outshine your sister. You're both so pretty it's blinding.
"I look like I crawled out from a rock that had pop on it. I made this right after I made Loki's tuxedo, I was half asleep. So there is no way I look better than Jazz." Kana said. The entire room could only blink at this comment.
"And that's why I made sure to prepare a dress for you," Vlad said. "I'm sorry, I don't know how to convince her of her own beauty." He muttered to some unseen force. Honestly, was this normal for human weddings?
The woman that Hel could guess was their mother Maddie was in a semi-form fitting gown that fell to the floor in what looked like blue waves. Her short hair was simpler then her daughters as it should be. But she was still well done up.
"Oh, right," Vlad said. "I believe we grabbed some for you and the kids. Loki's. I already dressed Loki and Thor's uh… Friends." He handed her several body length sort of flat bags.
"Oh, thank you," Hel said.
"Your welcome, my daughter M'lin is so talented, Loki was very descriptive so they'll look very lovely. Not prettier than our lovely bride."
"I sure hope so, that's the only thing I know about Midgardian things," Hel said. "I'll go make sure the kids are dressed."
"Thank you. You'll look lovely, I assure. My little girl's so talented."
"Ah right, Xander told me all about M'lin's talent for cloth," Hel said. "I'm sure the kids will look lovely, and I'll make sure there won't be any last minute adjustments needed. Even if I have to remove a limb or two."
"I- ugh, would that be necessary?"
"I really hope not." Jazz said. "I'd really prefer there not being blood on my wedding day. We worked so hard to avoid the color red."
Loki settled a little nervously on the chair as his sister got to work making sure he looked good enough for his wife on their wedding day. She was mostly covering the nervous scales sprouting over his cheekbones.
"am not wearing that. I can't fight in a dress," Arsinry said, as they did their brother's hair.
"Yes, you are Darkling," Hel said. "And I used to fight in dresses all the time. M'lin put a lot of effort into it to make it something you could."
"Don't worry, Darkling if I remember correctly M'lin will have added protection that are just as good as any armor."
"The skirt will get in the way," Arsinry complained. "Why do I have to wear a dress anyway? None of the other boys are wearing them."
"Knock, knock comin' in," a young woman called. She was a year older then Jazz with long brown hair the was done in elaborate braided buns on the undersides of her chins. "I'm M'lin. I realized pops probably didn't tell you about your clothes…. Especially given that your ruining the lines of my perfectly made tuxedos." M'lin wore a pants suit, with a swishy sort of cloth at the waist. "I put a lot of effort into making my clothing beautiful and battle ready, y'know."
"We don't know how well a mortal can sew, it's better to be safe than sorry," said one of the men.
"Ah! Rude, I oughta, well lucky for you I put a special spell inside the suits. So you can put the armor on underneath." M'lin said. "Now stab me."
"What?" the eldest brother said.
"Stab! Me!" the woman said, getting into his face. "This suit is designed to take explosions, can handle spells from up to ninth degree mages, and is incredibly flexible." The woman pulled a sword from her tiny little purse, and jabbed the thing into her stomach, hard enough to dent her stomach. "This blade was crafted by the finest Asgardian craftsmen. If that makes you feel better."
"Forgive the boys, they are upset that they don't get to have kilts, they are little babies about what they wear." Arsinry said as if they weren't just saying that they wouldn't wear the dress.
"Ah, yes," M'lin said. "Now your refusal is forgivable. After all, gender presentation is an important thing for one to maintain control over. I myself fall oddly on the gender spectrum. The dress is designed to alter it's shape to your will." M'lin carried. She wished her hips and the little 'butt cape' turned into a full length skirt. "Tah-dah! I did a different design for you. Can't have us wearing the same thing after all. A designer isn't worth their salt if they can't make alternate designs. You can also truss up the gloves. I wasn't entirely sure what you'd like though. Someone decided not to introduce us." She said in Loki's direction.
"It slipped my mind."
"Is he always going to be this forgetful," she said, rolling her eyes.
"Yes, we all just found out about the wedding/engagement/courting of a tea/plant/music" the four children of Loki said.
"Well, I'll be," M'lin sifted. Loki swallowed. Thor backed away from his brother as the woman approached. Thor wasn't the type to back down easily. "Your mind just went and slipped something that important did it?" Her shifting apparently caused the skirt to retract back into that slightly silly, but no one was going to mention it, 'butt cape'. Loki swallowed as they approached. "You'd better not have let anything else important slip your mind. Cause if you make my sister real sad I'll make you really dead."
"Yes, ma'am, I shall put forth my utmost efforts," Loki said.
"they were married once, but the man caught a case of knifeosis shortly after I was conceived," Arsinry said.
"Oh! Well, that's not anythin' too much to worry 'bout," M'lin said. "Well. I'll see you at the ceremony. And Arsinry. Sorry if the dress ain't perfect for yah. I had short notice. You stab my sister I end you!" M'lin said, gesturing her hands from her eyes to point at Loki.
"She seems nice," Arsinry said.
"They'll be fun to play with." Fin said, his ears out.
"She does have a preference for feminine pronouns, but she uses male titles. Brother, Husband, Sir. She's enjoyable."
"Is the rest of your bride's family that… interesting?" Hel asked.
"Well, taking it from the top, their parents are in a three way loveship," Loki started. "They hunt ghosts for science. They are loud, boisterous, and violently loyal to each other and their loved ones. Vlad is a halfa which is a term that midgardians use to describe one who exists between the realms of life and death. The other two are… Incredibly interesting and capable in their own right. Let's see, Jack has a younger brother who is also married to two others, somehow. Then there's Maddie's sister who's a man hating violent woman don't associate with her if you can help it. Vlad also has a younger sister. Who is rather short and capable of walking incredibly far distances without realizing it, in dangerous circumstances. Finally we get to the children. Nadja, James's wife, oh, James is Jack's younger brother. I think Nadja's older brother will also be there. The family is rather big with an eclectic and fascinating history. Nadja and James and Victory have a child of there own, at only two years that child is already biting literal gods. Let's see Nora doesn't have any children yet. As for my wife's siblings there is her eldest brother Matthew, and he's- he'd need his own ten hour ramble just to get half the detail, but he's very stabby. There's Tobas, which is actually spelled Tobias, but no one calls him that, he likes spiders a 'normal amount' he once set a man on fire for touching my ass when I was in woman form. Bent, Milo and Pyro and they're a fascinating trio for sure. I think Fin and Bent will get along well, in wolf form at least. Milo and Pyro are attached at the hip and are a killer for higher and her very own favorite gun. Then we have the twins Xander and Kana. I believe Xander is in another realm though."
"He is but I believe he said he'd swing by," Hel said. "And he's quite the entertainer."
"Kana is married to Time, or they're engaged," Loki said, with a shrug. "You've met M'lin. My wife is the next of the siblings and she's… perfect."
"Okay moving on because gross," Fin said.
"We don't wanna know how you two are behind closed doors," Loki's children said.
"I was not talking about that," Loki said. "Alright. The next would be Danny. He inherited the lion's share of Vlad's Halfa genes. I'm not even sure how that worked, anyway. Then there's his little clone sister, Dani with an I, and also only one n, she's well, a clone. They are interesting to say the least. Then they're Danny's partners."
"Which of the Dannies?"
"Two n's and a y."
"That's-okay- then… not the clone?"
"Correct."
"Why does he have a clone?"
"Vlad." Loki explained.
"Very helpful." One brother said.
"Got it." another said.
"Alright mother fuckers it's time to get in line and do the time!" Xander said bursting in.
"Oh, you made it." Hel said, waving. Mouthing who had just entered. He was the same size and coloring as Kana.
"What did you say about my hus- man" kana said ghosting into the room.
"I wasn't talkin' 'bout Time, I was talkin' 'bout time!" Xander said. "Now chop chop. We got a weddin' to celebrate." He tugged- yanked Loki from his chair. "Le's go~!" Xander shouted. He walked through the wall leaving Loki to smash into it.
"Oops sorry~!" When Xander pulled him along he actually pulled him through the wall with him this time.
Arsinry walked down the aisle along side Dani. Apparently Jazz had wanted all her siblings to be brides person's with her eldest brother being the Sir of honor or whatever it was called. They understood that it was his job to hold onto certain items of importance. Arsinry being the youngest and Dani being the youngest were paired off. Then the entire procession arrived at the front and then… Was this how Midgardians really got married? Dani patted her back and ushered her toward her brother's with some mild encouragement. She stepped over to stand beside her brothers, and they waited for their first meeting with their soon to be stepmother. The music changed apparently the proper introduction of the bride.
The Midgardian mortal who stepped forward was fairly pretty. It was her wedding day and Arsinry did know that was supposed to be the way of things. The woman walked with a calm focus, eyes landing on her soon to be husband as she walked. The rest of the ceremony blurred together, there were several marks of mixing families and marriage ceremonies. When it was finally over Arsinry was almost too exhausted to greet her new stepmother.
"Hello, you must be Arsinry, right?" Jazz asked. "I'm sorry we didn't get to meet before all this. And also that you didn't know about this." They were being ushered toward a door, Arsinry saw that outside there were tables and chairs and lights and such. So the celebration would take place out there. There was a table set in front of all the others, food was being brought out, and people were gathering into groups to chatter.
"Yes, and these are Slipnier, Finrier, and Jormangandy. My brothers. It is nice to meet you as well?" Arsinry asked instead of saying, very uncomfortable about the whole thing, but was trying.
"Yeah," Jazz said. "It's nice to meet you all." she was obviously uncomfortable too.
"I'm so sorry," Loki said, sliding in next to them. "I could have sworn I introduced you all to each other at some point." He was rubbing his head. Probably trying to remember where he had gotten the false idea from.
"Well, you kind of didn't," Jazz said. "I was under the impression that it was sort of hard to do for certain reasons." Her voice seemed to grow annoyed but also teasing. "Kinda sprung a whole lot of things on a whole lot of people didn't you." She poked him then, mostly teasing.
"Yes," He seemed embarrassed. Good, Arsinry still hadn't forgiven him for not even telling him about all this.
"Anyway, I should have also checked in to make sure, so I'm sorry I sprung myself on you all," Jazz said. "You don't have to worry about me trying to take over anything. I understand that you all are quite mature enough not to need anything um… overbearing. I mean. I'm not expecting you guys to think of me as an extra parent or anything. I'd be happy if we could just get along, is what I mean."
"'ts fine no worries on our end, besides what else should 'e expect from our forgetful parent. May your years together never tire." Jorman said, as Arsinry looked down.
"Thank you," Jazz said, ducking her head in a little sort-of bow. Which if it was anyone else might have been a little cute. Still Arsinry wasn't sure she liked the woman yet.
"Alright! Alright! Let's get the real party started!" The man who Arsinry recognized as the eldest brother shouted while wrapping his arm over his sister's shoulder. "I heard it's not a Norse wedding till somebody gets stabbed! So who wants to brawl with me!"
"Tai please don't kill my husband's children," Jazz said. "Or die the mess you'd make would be really hard to clean up."
"Okay! Relax! I'll surrender if I get stabbed," Tai…? Said. Wasn't his name Matthew? "So, whatdya say, who wants to have a go! Winner drinks on me!"
"Please don't fuck any of my husbands children!" Jazz shouted, she was shaking him.
"Thomas wasn't even aware that was an option! Relax little sister," The man said. "I just meant I'd pay for the beer."
"The alcohol is part of the wedding package!" Jazz growled, knife appearing in her hand. "Dad already paid for it!"
"Oh, yeah," Tai said. "Still, somebody gotta get stabbed in this bitch and soon, or it's back luck."
"I'll stab you!" And she did. He didn't bleed though. "Of course you didn't show up in person."
"Sorry, I have to keep that sack of meat from destroying the universe somehow."
"So. upi missed your own sisters wedding."
"We all showed up," Tai whined. Meanwhile in the background something else had taken place.
"Yeah!" Dani shouted. "We're brawlin'!" Her clothes shifted into something more fitting for fighting. "Let's go!" she punched the man next to her. Who laughed and tossed the tiny woman a few feet.
"Hey!" An older man shouted. "Keep the fighting outside. The venue doesn't want us getting blood in their carpets! You heathens."
"Alright, alright," Tai said. They were now walking outside most of the guest exiting through the many window like doors. The wedding party went to the table up front. Dani and the man who'd tossed her and several other guests were gathered to start the brawls. Food and Alcohol were both being passed and slightly present. Tai had despite his claims not surrendered after getting stabbed and joined the fights after patching his wounds winking at Arsinry as she'd watched in confusion. Cheers and toast and boisterous laughter filled the area, as music started playing and other's started dancing.
"I'm going to find a quiet place to read. Have fun brothers, enjoy your wedding feast, Mother" Arsinry said, getting up and walked out of the room, before anyone could say anything.
"Oh, Darkling, why not enjoy the feast," Loki said. The woman next to him sighed.
"You forgot to tell her the wedding wasn't mandatory didn't you?" Jazz said, causing Loki to turn.
"She's my daughter, he should be here," Loki said.
"And they clearly didn't want to come," Jazz sighed. "Am I wrong?"
"No, I was not informed that I was supposed to be given a choice," Arsinry admitted.
"Have fun with your book," Jazz said, then turned her attention to Loki. "Darling, we need to talk about this."
"About what? The person who you are going to replace me with, in a realm I know hardly anything about, or that you just don't talk to us anymore. I haven't seen you for longer than two weeks in the past… how many months?" Arsinry said her own magic was making her form shift from Asgard to Jouten. Their brothers standing between the party goers and their sister. Noone outside of the royal family knew about Arsinry's heritage.
"Ah," Jazz said, her voice carried with it a sort of calm that spoke of storms and towering waves. "Alright, Loki dear, we will all talk later. You need to have a talk with your child. Go on. Shoo." When Loki was a little ways away. "And don't scold until after our family meeting!"
Arsinry ran out of the building and as far as they could before calling Himdal to take her home. It was not a good day. Fin saw as he had run after them, in wolf from and walked back to let their father know she had gotten home safely…at least to her home.
"Father, Arsy is back at our home. I know you feel this is your home now. But do not fear that my sister is home," Fin said, as he stepped into the resption again.
Loki sighed. Leaning against the wall.
"What am I going to do with that child?" Loki said. "That was a really dangerous outburst."
"What did you expect. They are on the verge of women hood and you have tosted her away. Do better, and soon." Fin said a growl in his voice.
"No she isn't, she's still a baby in everyway," Loki said. "Maybe she really does need another parents guidance I clearly failed. And I would never toss any of my children away. You know that don't you. I did what I had to, to protect you."
"Father how old are they?" Fin asked looking at Loki.
"She's only eight-hundred years old," Loki said. "A child, that's why when things get settled she'll be happy to have Jazz as a step mother."
"How old was I when you talked to me and Jorman about consent,"Fin said.
"That's a completely different topic, and a completely different situation," Loki said. "And I wasn't exactly more than a kid myself."
"Your so stupid," Fin said.
"I am not," Loki said.
"So, so, so, stupid," Fin said. "Forget it! Your clearly not listening and you clearly aren't going to understand. Just keep driving sister away. See what happens!"
"Fin! Finrier! Finny…" Loki said. "What did I do wrong?!"
A little while later Loki is sitting with Jazz.
"Is it seriously not obvious?" Jazz asked.
"NO!" Loki said. "That's why I'm asking. My babies are mad at me."
"Well, you did start courting and marrying someone without ever telling them," Jazz said.
"That was an accident," Loki said.
"Still hurts."
"I apologized."
"Still hurts."
"That can't be everything."
"No, it isn't," Jazz said, taking another bite of cake.
"So…"
"You seriously don't know?"
"No!"
"She literally told you what the problem is," Jazz sighed. "How are you this bad at peopling? I'm handing our children. Understand me?"
"Yes, ma'am." Loki said. "So…"
"You tell her that you're not intending to replace her," Jazz said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"I'm not."
"Tell her, I know already," Jazz said. "I'd almost think you were doing this on purpose to cause trouble, you silly little kittie." She said poking him. "Now go take care of your daughter so I don't have to worry about this much longer.
"Loki Layfayson, you made my little sister cry!" Jouman yelled, stalking up to his father, a nice long dagger in hand.
"I'm going to go fix that," Loki said. "I swear. Right now in fact." And then in teleported away like the little shit he was. Jazz sighed.
"I married a walking disaster," Jazz said. Looking at the markings on her arms that proved them soulmates. "You guys seriously have a sense of fucked up humor."
"yes, and one that yhinks that males and females hit puberty at different times," Jourman said.
"Seriously," Jazz said. "I mean they do. Girls hit puberty first."
"They do?" Jourman asked.
"Statistically, which is a fancy way of saying usually," Jazz said.
"Ah, that's even worse!" Jourmen shouted.
"I take it he thinks that his little girl can't possibly be becoming a woman?" Jazz said.
"I mean it would explain why they are soo moody the past two hundred years," Sephniar said.
"Oh, not necessarily, if visual cues are anything to go by she's already at a delicate age, and then her father faked his death twice before settling down here. At least if Thor is to be believed. He sure cried a lot about it."
"Three times. First was when they were 150 years old, then the other two times," Fin said.
"Is that something I'm going to need to worry about?" Jazz said.
"Probably," Jourman said.
"Of. fucking. Course."
Arsinry was curled up on her bed, crying into her knees as he tried to get his mind around all that happened. This morning he found out that her mother was engaged. Then their father was getting married, then married. Arsinry understood that, yet it was still confusing somehow. There was a knock on her door.
"Darkling?" Loki's voice came through her door. "May I come in?"
"Go! Away!" Arsinry shouted, not even sure why.
"Darkling, can we not talk about this?"
"What's there to talk about?!" Arsinry was on her feet then shouting at the top of her lungs. Her Asgardian form shed in favor of his Jouten form. "The fact that you don't care about any of us at all. That you didn't bother to tell us you'd found your soulmate! That you didn't care to give us any warning before springing a wedding a whole set of new relatives that we have to get to know!? Tell me Mother! What? ARe? We? To? Talk about?!" She'd collapsed back to her knees. Now he was hugging themself. "Just go away! Like you always do."
"Darkling…" Loki's voice sounded hurt. "I'm sorry. I'm going to fix it. I promise." She heard him walk away. Arsinry laid their head on his bed and closed her eyes.
"How can you even think you can fix this?" She turned his head into the soft sheets, tears leaking. "besides she will die and you will actually kill yourself," Arsinry said softly.
Arsinry stood behind his Mother, Loki, who was talking to her grandparents. Talking about taking her with him to Midgard to spend time together as a family. Next thing she knew, his bags had been packed and they were saying good-bye to all their friends.
"It's alright, my mom's thinking of moving us down there soon too," said one of her other mage friends. "And we'll talk loads for sure."
"Yeah." Arsinry said. They all talked and made plans to visit each other.
"Arsinry!" Fin called when it was time. They had an even more hard time with their mother now. Said goodbye again and ran to the bifrost.
"Are you ready?" Loki asked, looking forward to going back to 'their' home. Arsinry nodded and said nothing. "I promise you'll like it. Thor picked out a fantastic spot for new Asgard. We've made a lot of progress in sharing our culture and the Midgardians actually have a few good ideas. I was surprised since they have such short lives, but I guess I should have figured."
"Like dying so soon after being born," Arsinry snarked.
"Arrsy," Loki said. "I know this is a- but this will be good for us. I promise." He tried to cup her face. She pulled away, not harshly, just making it clear she wasn't in the mood to be touched.
"I will do my duty to the crown. And act as the crown should. I am nothing if not that." Arsinry said, standing taller and letting her court mask fall into place.
"Darkling," Loki said. "You'll see. It'll be wonderful."
Jazz looked between the two. Clearly shocked. The woman was dressed in loose fitting pants and a short-sleeved shirt with a tight caller, hair still donned in a bun but no longer as elaborate.
"Oh, hi, I wasn't expecting you to come so soon," Jazz said, smiling nervously. "It's good to see you. How are you?"
"I'm older than you, you shouldn't treat me like a child," Arsinry said.
"Right, sorry," Jazz said. "I didn't mean to make you feel patronized, but I'm sorry that I did. We just moved in too. So, you can pick whichever room you want."
"Arrs, apologize right now. She is your mother, you will treat them as such," Loki said, as Arsinry rolled his eyes, shifted to a male, flipped Loki off and walked away.
"That's not necessary, dear," Jazz said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sure Arsinry is tired from the trip and all the stuff that's been happening."
"Still they should-"
"I'm older than she is!" Arsinry shouted.
"That's not how this works!" Loki shouted.
"She's barely a baby by Asgardian standards!"
"Well, she's not an Asgardian!" Loki said.
"YEah! She's mortal!" Arsinry shouted. "I don't understand why you even want to be around her. I thought you hated mortals!"
"I- I don't- that's- I have grown past that, and so will you!" Loki finally shouted.
"Maybe I don't want to!" Arsinry shouted. "I don't get why I even have to be here. It's not like you'll be spending all your time here either!"
"I will too!"
"Yeah, sure! Because you've been so- so stable all this time!" The argument continued, each yelling and her mother never truly listening. Arsinry tried his best to hear her mother out. Why couldn't he just listen to her. Why couldn't she just give her the words she just…? Eventually Jazz got tired of the argument. She'd let them carry on for about an hour before finally shouting over them.
"Enough!" Despite her shouting her words were level and calm. "Loki, beloved, it's time to take some time to cool off. Arsinry, please allow me to show you to the room you'll apparently be using. I'm sorry we don't have much. We just moved in ourselves."
"Fine!" Arsinry said, folding her arms over her chest.
"Jazz-" Loki started but Jazz held her hand up. Before rubbing her forehead.
"This is not the time to be having this conversation," Jazz said. "We're all too emotional right now. I'm sorry, but.. We all need space right now." Arsinry watched as her mother took a deep breath then let it out.
"Alright, you're right," As Loki spoke Arsinry felt a bitterness rise within her stomach, up her throat and into her mouth. She looked away angrily. Jazz didn't offer to take her hand or touch her in anyway, just walked over to a door and opened it.
"Can you follow me?" She asked. Arsinry wished she could appreciate it. That she didn't feel cheated somehow by the woman being so reasonable. Once they were out of earshot of His mother Jazz spoke again. "I'm sorry about that. I thought the two of you would work things out, but Loki seems to not be listening to a single word you're saying." This did make Arsinry feel better. It hadn't been his Imagination, they hadn't been misinterpreting the situation. Her stepmother was taking her side. "I hope I didn't overstep my boundaries when I decided to step in. It wasn't my intention, but I was worried things would- weren't go anywhere good."
"Thank you," Arsinry said. "You didn't overstep your boundaries. This is your home and you have every right to worry that two angry gods might wreck the place." Arsinry meant it as a joke, but it came out serious and bitter. Jazz laughed anyways, not as if belittling her anger, but acknowledging the effort at humor, it was obvious, a sad sort of laugh. Jazz opened a door, then another. Then sighed in frustration.
"We don't have an extra bed," Jazz groaned. "I'll call someone, you can pick which room you like better. Okay?" Then walked back toward the stairs. Arsinry only vaguely remembered climbing them. She'd been so angry, she was still angry. He looked into the room, then the other. They were both about the same size and mostly the same shape. There were little carvings in the doorways, flowers and sheep. The one with flowers overlooked the 'front yard, and fields of green and rowling hills. The stone wall surrounded the house out all the way out of view. The sheep room look out at a tree and a lake or maybe just a large pond in the distance. The wall stretched out toward it. Arsinry made their choice. Sheep it was.
Arsinry stood by the window and waited. Soon her stepmother reappeared. He was having an easier time thinking of her that way. She was at least making an effort. Jazz stepped into the doorway.
"Ah, the sheep room," Jazz said. "The little lake is pretty isn't it?" She said, sounding a little wistful. She breathed out then. "Alright, so, I ordered a bed, and was thinking about ordering some food. I already asked one of my brothers so don't worry about not knowing any midgardian dishes, there's time to learn that stuff. Pick anything you want. Anything."
"The still beating heart of my enemies," Arsinry joked a little bitterly.
"Don't we all," Jazz joked back. "More seriously, maybe not anything still alive." It was mostly a joke. Arsinry couldn't help the little puff of laughter then a sniffle. "What's something you think your grandmother would have made, or your dad/mom, your brothers. Something comforting."
"I want my mom!" Arsinry said.
"Unfortunately she has their head up his ass," Jazz grumbled.
"Why won't he listen to me?" Arsinry said. "I tried to make my feelings clear this time."
"You've been making your feelings clear the whole time," Jazz comforted. "I think your mom's just to close to hear it properly. Can I touch?" Arsinry looked at her. "Just a little. One the shoulder." Arsinry gave in, nodding. Jazz didn't touch her more then she's said. Rubbing her shoulder occasionally, but otherwise just letting her hand rest there. It helped, a little. To let herself cry. Jazz was pretty good at listening.
Even though Arsinry couldn't say anything.
